Unrelated, a bank wont need a the same type of server to send data for a transaction, they just need (to put it simple) a key confirmation that goes from a to b then back to a and that's it.

And what i said is still valid, a bank doesn't need a constant online connection your credit card and flow different amount of data between the card and the bank when you have it on you or when you're using it to buy anything through cashier or online. It literally is just a code that it send to the bank to confirm that you valid the payment and the only check the bank does is if you have the fund or can go in the negative for the month.
The system needed is way lighter and require less power, it's not 'simpler' it still have to do that sort of computing multiple time through the day to multiple location but the system remain just a short back and forth.

This is somewhat annoying. I work 70+ hours a week at the moment so my playtime is very low, doing the weekly stuff is very difficult and now with today being down I'm never going to get close to getting capped on weeklies. I have no sympathy for the European staff, they prove time and time again they're useless and don't know what they're doing.
They should give us 200 Mendacity, 50k MGP, 500 Allied Seals, 500 Centurio Seals and give the Golden Saucer event an extra day to compensate. Not gonna happen though, only thing we'll get is a thanks for our patience because their customer service sucks.

We don't know the extend of the damage aside the report on complete power loss and equipment failure in the DC meaning it's quite a heavy issue and considered as 'catastrophic event'. But most DC tend to have multiple layer to prevent massive loss in term of data or equipment, such as dual power feed, back up generator, in-room battery and other disaster prevention system but the data shouldn't, in theory, be affected by a heavy marge. Unless they also got badly hit but nobody know how the data is managed and backed but, usually they should have an on-site backup and an off-site one (insurance and stuff tend to request those nowadays) so you can look at maybe a 24h rollback while the equipment 'usually' can be hotswapped if its out of commission and available.
Yes there are a lot of questions they do already have an answer to and are not informing us about. I wish they made a statement about the data loss if there was any and if so since when it was last backed up. And also the remedies that will be taken.
I guess we will have to be understanding and patient, they seem to be expecting us to be that in every update post haha.

What kind of "grown" man takes a day off work to play video games in the first place. Unless you work 12 hours a day then it's understandable. And this the first time it has happened, there have been smaller issues at times but they got fixed faster. Plus you don't get to play the game whenever you want since on patch days maintances can take up to a day. AND they know they have a problem, when did they tell us to check our own ends with the problem?

Hi, a newbie here!
I started playing a few days ago and so far I'm loving it! It is a bummer that this issue happened fairly as soon as I started my journey but I can't really fault them for a big scale downtime like this.
I have to say though, from reading some of the comments here that some people come across as toxic and intolerant and holier-than-thou. I hope that's not a representative of the majority of Eorzeans!
Servers seem to be back up and running! At least I was able to log in to Louisoix.
