We're complaining that there is no actual option to stop displaying the inane window counter when porting between areas. Some of us do not want that on our screen because it's a distraction. UI changes are fine, and for the people who want this to display, they are free to want to have it displayed for themselves.
Some of us don't want it displayed, but we currently have no option whatsoever to prevent it from displaying. Even the supposed option to turn it off that they included, does not turn it off.
Quit acting like we're all complaining about nothing.
Wait this thing constantly pops up for people? I only ever see it when I log in.
Same here. But I think, based on what I've read in here, that like the loot notification, there is a bubble there that appears in any zone you have achievements to complete in. I'll have to double check on that when I get home and do my daily Moogles since I didn't do them yesterday.
You guys could always just do the achievements to get it to stop.
Checking it displays them, as per the command: “Display achievements nearing completion upon login”. Mine is unchecked, meaning they should NOT display—either that box or the green Notice. If it actually hides them, then that is a translation error that should be fixed.
Seems counterintuitive though, since the Recommendations command is worded the exact same way, and functions as intended: if you want Recommendations to display upon login, you check the box; if you don’t, you leave it unchecked.
UPDATE: Checked the box, and instead of the grey box notifying me of achievements, now I get green notices instead. I don’t want either, regardless if they disappear in 30 seconds or not. If I want to check achievements, I just look them up.
And it won’t not show up regardless of if the “display upon login” is unchecked, like it should. I don’t have any interest in seeing either, and I would like the option to have neither appear.
See my update: I don’t want either. I like a clean UI and control over what it looks like. Having green notices, disappearing or no, clutters it and I dislike that. There should be an option to display neither, rather than forcing one or the other. I don’t need them appearing every time I zone into a new area either.
There are two popups. The one you see when you log in you are suppose to be able to turn off but it appears broken as I have it turned off yet it shows up anyway. The other is a new button that shows up in the LRH notification area any time you enter an area with incomplete achievements. It is the same location the "Ready Check" button appears. There is not option to turn it off or it is broken if the existing UI setting is suppose to handle it.
So the text for the login check box is wrong. I don't care if I have to check or leave unchecked I just want both to go away. I will check the option next time I login to get rid of login popup (half the battle at least). Still need a mechanism to get rid of notification area popup button.
UPDATE: Now I see what you were getting at. Just a different flavor of the popup window. If SE would spend as much time working on the problems of the game as they do adding new ones via unrequested features the game would be unbeatable in the marketplace.
Yes, let's do every achievement in the game so that we don't have to worry about a pop-up box. That seems way easier than making an option to hide it.
I get that not everyone is stressed out by a timer counting down on their screen, but it catches my eye and is a huge distraction for me. There are times where I may be zoning every few minutes.
I agree with this complaint. It is annoying and distracting and I want to be able to turn it off INDEFINITELY. I don't want them on area change, I don't want them on log in. When I want to see my Achievements and try and fill them all, I will look it up! I don't need constant reminders that I still have some pending! I tried just ignoring it but it's just hard to miss!
What we achievement hunters wanted: a means to track achievements that we're working on the same way as quests (eg., selecting one at a time to go in the duty list so we can actively watch it progress).
What EVERYONE got: this obnoxious crap that doesn't stop or go away, no matter what we do or don't select, and nobody that I know of actually wanted.
Basically SE going full Squeenix on the achievement system.
I have mine turned off in the settings and it doesn't show up. Even if it is there what's the big deal? Everyone on here is acting like it's the end of the world, it's not. Yea maybe it needs to be fixed, and they'll fix it, but the game is still 100% playable.
It makes perfect sense, actually. Just because you don't understand it, personally, doesn't mean it doesn't.
There are times where it seems like SE will act like a competent gaming company, be it as a developer or a publisher. There are times when they make minor mistakes, as anyone might. And then there are times when SE tries to reinvent the wheel on the simplest of things, and it not only doesn't work out but it sometimes leads to people wondering what in blazes they're smoking over there.
If they wanted to spur people on to do achievements, maybe they could have worked on more incentives like more rewards to buy with achievement points, not this intrusive eyesore that we ended up with.
That, and maybe make the achievements more meaningful than "Do X at least Y-thousand times." Create neat little conditions for people to try out and accomplish, and the achievement system would improve greatly.
Also: the achievement sound effect. The current chime is... eh? While I don't want FFIV to become WoW, I must draw a comparison in how ~that~ game's chiev sound effect is more fulfilling and feels more like you DID A THING!
I agree with you two both. I too played WoW before FFXIV. And even though I, like Aster, don't want FFXIV to become like WoW, at least their achievements are meaningful and make you do stuff. And then they had some fun gimmick achievements thrown in the mix. This change was wholly unnecessary. As an option? Sure! But enforced? And no Abelfei, turning off doesn't work for EVERYONE, obviously. So it is a nuisance that should be dealt with.
When I log in, the pop up comes. I close it and be done with it. When I change areas, the notification shows up in the bottom right of my screen. Most of the time I don't even notice it's there. When I do, I just ignore it and it goes away shortly. I don't see what the big problem is with this.
They need to fix it. Even pops up when there is none for that area your in.
