Alfgar's Event and Imperial Assault - Why did you make them "random" events?

For that to happen they would actually have to be frequent, people need to actually see them on a regular basis.. I sat in LL for two days while playing other games waiting for this event to pop. It never did. Someone told us that one had spawned in Grid and I couldn't get there fast enough even though I immediately ported to Gridania and ran to the adventurer's guild. The node despawned as I was accepting the teleport.

Like i said i would like to see the schedule for the automated events kicked up a notch or two. Not set to a behest like schedule. but so they happen more then twice every other blue moon.

Just make Alfgar show up at more places around the map.... he doesn't have to be in town all the time.. maybe he pops in town.. at a camp next.. in the middle of nowhere walking to the next town... in your moms sock drawer.. everywhere!

The 7th umbral era storyline is not a part of the main storyline. You miss nothing in the main storyline if you miss the event.

As above- 7UE is essentially a means of explaining away to the players the changes that are/will be taking place in the world when 2.0 comes out.

Thats exactly what im saying, having lots of random events will have everyone doing something and everything will feel more lively than having an NPC standing all the time waiting for people to do events, maybe you´ll miss alfgar but instead you can find someone else trying to get people for other event, and yeah they need to make those events a little more frequent but not in excess, maybe a full earth day to spawn or take a few days in the week

If you all wear subligar he (Alfgar) will come...

At least that's what my subligar god is telling me every night last couple of days... didn't work last night though... maybe subligar god was sleepy to summon Alfgar... /sigh

Thats besides the point really, people still want to do these events, the main issue is that they are unable to because of the stupid concept that is randomly timed encounters.

Actually yea the 7th umbral era is in fact the big story arc that is going on right now.

The "Main scenario" stuff is a prelude to what's going on right now.
(specifics hidden for new players who care but have not run through these quests yet.)

Think about what is experienced in those quest. You get to know your starting town a bit. You then learn the interaction between the tribes and the city states and how the empire is causing friction there. Then get swept up in the introduction of the primals there influence on the beast tribes. Finally you get the big reveal moment when (at the time) you actually come fact to face with the empire for the first time.

This story was continued on in side quests and Grand company quests including the instances. The remainder of the story will also be told Via live events such as what is going on now. Also via major set pieces in the form of new instances and wacky additions to the game world such as the strongholds and fleshed out with grand company and side quests. Once this all comes to a head the story will enter into its next chapter as we deal with the fall out of the world having gone to hell in a turbo hand basket.

My point being, if you care about the actual story being told here and you have only done the "Main scenario". You have not even begun to scratch the surface of whats going on. Pointing to that string of quests and saying any thing outside of this is not important is comical at best.

I don't normally like to talk about WoW because I didn't play it but from hearing stories from my friend WoW had many one-time events that you don't get to replay. Here's a link the list is towards the bottom of the page http://www.wowwiki.com/Event. If you look at the list you'll notice that there were many one-time only events that happened long before cataclysm began and some that even lead up to cataclysm itself sort of how we are doing events leading up to 2.0. Also if this is the forums reaction to a tiny event that is barely noticeable if your not looking for it it's probably going to be a sh*tstorm in here when 2.0 rolls around and suddenly everything we are doing right now is going to vanish.

"limited time" with limited number of people that can participate doesn't make this fun for some players that want to actually get those records in the history... which is why it would be nice if the devs the can increase the frequency of at least the system based live events.

As for the GM's roleplaying... been waiting and haven't seen any yet... heard it popped up once on Melmond server in Ul'dah but bunch of noobs threw snowball at it and it left right away....

This dalmund event was far worse than the garlean invasions which at least were geared towards low level players and had an excuse for being so trivial.

Lower the limit, or increase the # or power of cultists (except you can't likely increase the # of cultists enough due to character limits).

The even is painfully dull, you sit around far too long in between spawns and then a bunch of weak cultist MRD types pop which even a solo player could have little difficult handling. I thought under Yoshi we were no longer playing the "storyline content has to be accessible to everyone including wrist flicking crafter classes" game.

Not asking for something really challenging here, just something that feels like I am actually playing a game.

People would complain if there's a sudden shift though -- This is stuff that's already been in the pipeline long before he announced the "separation of classes" in terms of accessibility.

Not sure where you got that from since repeatedly in interviews he said he wanted to open up the game and expand it so that even people that main in a DOH/DOL can participate in the story driven and world changing events, I'm sure THIS is not what he had in mind, but it's besides the point, which is that you are under completely opposite impression.

I did see a few people fishing while I was in there.... so what's the point though? The cultists popped and they... continued fishing. They didn't engage anything, they were just leaching. Like I said not asking for anything dramatic, but it doesn't feel like you are playing the game. It feels like you are wasting your time doing nothing, and the event just drags on and on and on....

All that time spent trying to find it, once you actually do it you will be glued to the clock waiting for it to be finally over so you can get your two potions, and make some coffee to wake yourself up.

Nope it is in his interviews (which might still be sticked at the top). Main storyline content will be properly balanced for battle classes in the future. Not ridiculously hand tied by the ridiculous notion that all disciple types should go through the exact same content (making it not fun for any of them).

What Yoshida mentioned was basically A/B perspectives -- This is definitely not it but it's also something they've already worked on prior to that interview since I doubt they stopped work on a major patch for even a little bit of time to add some small umbral era content then go back to working on major patch content -- They likely already had the people behind the events working on this stuff since 1.18 or so.

Have you done the event? It clearly isn't the result of many months of careful planning and implementation by a large team of developers. It is broken gameplay wise, horribly balanced, and recommended for 45+ characters I believe.

It's a few mobs that spawn minutes apart (the spawning is way too slow), and at the end another mob spawns that may be a different type but is killed in seconds just the same. Then it is over and a chest appears.

I have, what I mean is there's a team that does event related stuff and the Umbral event is clearly another type of content that's being introduced overtime, it's nothing spectacular but that's the point, it's not main content which is what Yoshida was referring to when he stated about the different perspectives on tackling the main storyline for example.

Yeah the main content they were talking about is main storyline quest-type stuff, not these live things.

I think my opinion on the live event issue still stands and the frequency of these needs to be bumped up so it appears more frequently and spread out among peak times for the different regions. However from my experience they do seem to get more frequent the longer they are around, although I just might be lucky in previous events.

Well I for one hope you are wrong, and from the context I read it in he was referring to the fact that story content was not properly balanced for battle classes which made it completely trivial and not fun. This falls in the exact same category and should be fixed.

Is the "Legatus Battle" going to be this lame? The Umbral storyline is important to me, and the actual playable parts of that storyline should involve actual playing of the game.

It might be lame, it might turn out as one of those slow start high finish all of a sudden everything makes sense type of things.

Thanks for posting the official translation on that, Bayohne, but I've to agree with Reinheart here. The randomness of these events is quite uncomfortable and requires too much time or luck for the casual adventurer to catch.

Although I really appreciated the reward of the secret area in Mistbeard Cove, The Whale's Cape, and changed my original Topic in a more positive note, I still believe this randomness won't do much good for casual adventurers with not much free time.

I spent many days trying to figure out a pattern and in the end didn't find out much, probably because I'm not smart enough (or there's no pattern at all).

Like I said, I did both of these events and enjoyed them, but, as a casual, my tactics was to either craft in the same spot or go to Eorzea every hour, taking airships/teleporting to other city-states. This, of course, only in late afternoon or evening/night.
Not the best of comfort for me, as I like to craft in different places, nor for another adventurer that could stay in Eorzea even less than me, like from 21.00 to 00.00.

By the way, the name of the cultists is “The Lambs of Dalamud”, not “The Lamb of Dalamut”... Sorry for the correction, vine-man! :D And I hope you community reps noticed this other similar Topic here.
Even if that matter wasn't brought up in the Japanese board, I wish it'd be taken into consideration, as well as gradually change the occurrence of these limited-time, story-related events. Thanks if you forwarded it to the devs. ;)

Welp, deal with it! I have to deal with the stupid mounts now, I like how random it is! makes it more..... immersion ^.^

The Developers have to realize that most players got a Real Life (some have to go to work/school etc.) and if they login into this game, they may want to have fun and not being forced to create 3 chars to camp each city for a couple of days, to participate in those events (even if they dont miss much atm because those events were pretty boring yet).
That they are time limited makes it even worse.

The chance to get into those events, w/o camping the spots, is vanishingly low.

Same with events were GMs are involved. They happen rarely (never seen any yet) and if u get lucky, theres still up to a 75% chance that u dont speak the language they are using then.

LOL I go to work/school don't even give that excuse. It makes it more exciting when you can be like, OHSGMDSfh THERE IT IS. instead of, oh, there it is AGAIN....

Instead of making 3 characters, they could make 3 friends.

Seriously, I only got in because someone told me it was taking place something I think even a person with a "real life" could manage. In fact "real lifers" should have an advantage in this area not living in their parent's basement totally deprived of all social contact.

These are dynamic events, they can't be scheduled or that defeats their purpose. Plug into your community, let it be known you are looking for these, and stop being such a loner and you should have no trouble getting to experience these rather disappointing events for yourself.

I just wish I was able to know when the event happened if I was online, I rarely spend any time in town so I always miss out on the event when I'm off in the wilderness soloing cactuars off the beaten path...

Like seriously if nobody joins the event (Que doesn't fill or something) a global message about it's occurance wouldn't be a terrible thing would it? I understand they are worried about "Congestion" but as it stands I doubt the events with no reward other than a cool experience would remain cluttered for long.

I'm alright with the randomness of the events and them not announcing that part does make it fun and interesting but so far I think these events takes place twice a day at random city and with 16 player limit. Sure doesn't feel like they actually increased the frequency.

I guess in the long run it will work out since the rewards aren't that great doubt those that went in already would do it over and over; I'm just look at overall participation players may/may not I already done one myself so not complaining personally just don't feel right for others that want to actually participate and can't because of the current frequency.

The best option imo was to not even have the history lol if you participated you participated good for you, others don't need to know and by them not knowing they wont feel sad/happy since there is no record of it even took place lol. (some might get mad at me for saying this one lol)

Because entries in your history are sooooo important...

The fact that these events are spontaneous is what's supposed to be fun and interesting about them. There's never anything essential from them except a few lore tidbits which you can get from other people if you missed out. I really don't want to see things like this disappear because a few whiny people who have to have everything but can't be on for it complain.

Also, I call BS on that "disappear cuz they threw snowballs at it" thing.

As long as it is only Lodestone history and not in-game achievements, I'll settle with that. Hopefully I can stumble on more GMs or even get my hands on one of those secret events. :D

My only suggestion: once these secret live events are done forever, is it possible to have updates on the Lodestone or the forums with what happened and the story tied behind it? At least, we can keep up! And the it would go well in the city-state's newspaper.

Edit: Somewhere pinned so everyone can see it even after many months. It would go really well with the lore and all for new players too.

not every event has to be designed for 2 and a half people (2 hyur and 1 lalafell)....


i am sure potential customers are lost because of all this "hiding" events and not putting it in the update notes. the devs need to be realistic, potential customers probably only check the version patch notes and dont look at anything else on the site (i know thats what i do with respect 11 these days and other mmos). the devs should therefore be going all out to blow things out of proportion in getting rid of the secrecy and in ramping up the scale and length of events (think of the media buzz from places like IGN if we went into GM Dave territory: "SE marches its GMs army over major town, does over 9000 damage, hands players their ass then spawns a HNM dragon on poor crafters")

When pvp comes along i expect the devs to come in controlling the leaders of the Grand Companies for some full scale warfare

I like the idea of random "live events", but at this point where content is lacking as it is, I don't quite understand the decision behind making them so rare.

I've camped in alfgars spot in uldah for hours -- 20+ at this point -- and have not seen the bastard pop once --__-- except the one time I ran into town and saw him.. this is nuts..
