Please lift the insane level restriction on when you can glamour

There is also that whole cannot glamour things that are a higher level on lower level gear.

I mean, what if I wanted to make my Augmented Ironworks Fending gear look like the Ishguardian Knight set? I can't, because even though augmented ironworks gear is ilvl 130 vs the ilvl 120 ishguardian set the Ironworks gear is level 50 and the ishguardian set is level 51.

This is a part of where the whole lvl1 glam items becomes a problem. They are there for anyone to wear but they are also so much better looking than anything a lvl1 has access to. So when the only way to look good is to spend gil you haven't earned yet (since you can't just buy higher lvl armour that you might like) it has the potential to encourage RMT. Let's face it a lot of the sub30 gear is pretty ugly.

Because the items you use as glamour will get soulbound to you. And since the level requirement is in the way, you can't utilize it.
Prevents people from buying items from the market, glamour them on their gear and resell it again.

This is such a harmless request in the grand scheme of things and people seem to bitter over the mere notion that new players might have access to it earlier. All this talk about having to earn it, and wanting everything handed to you, etc etc.

Wtf? The quest is literally you talking to one npc, then talking to someone else, then talking to that first person again. Omg you like...totally worked so super duper hard to earn that. Pfffft. 1-50 is so braindead easy that the fact you still even have to do it to unlock galmour is practically a formality at this point.

And to me, that's like the only legit reason not to change it at this point. It's so easy to plow through the MSQ that it's probably just not worth it to devote resources to changing when you unlock it. It totally should be changed, but meh, you'll live.

No! Everyone should be forced to go through the subligar phase! It's a rite of passage!

Just on a side note. Stat-wise, the subligars were never compulsory. You can go from Lv 5 gear to Lv 10 then to Lv 14. And if you consider the Beginner's Hall set, then it's actually perfectly fine to go from Lv 5 gear to the Beginner's Set, which is exactly what I did on my new character.

I really don't see any harm in earning the Glamour system within the early-mid game. But I'd feel more QoL changes could be made before Glamouring becomes more easily available; like a glamour log or maybe being able to maintain a universal glamour appearance without fear of over leveling your gear and having to replace it thereafter.

Instead of *moving* the NPC to Vesper Bay or whatever, they could just copy him, I'd think, if they really want to keep this quest actually in a lower level area in addition to lowering the level requirement (should they ever do this).

I mean, if Rowena and Gerolt can literally be in two different places at the same time, I don't see why this guy can't.

In reality, you don't even need to glamour anything, sub max level. I usually just wear the item 1 level glamour gear while leveling. The beginner stats are trivial. In dungeons I do at least wear the best gear I own, but leveling through Fates, Leaves or PotD, the gear stats don't matter much. I just wear what I feel like wearing. Once at max level, I start glamouring once I get good gear to things I like. There is sometimes when I'm going to be stuck with a hideous piece leveling gear that I would just glamour over so I don't have to dungeon in it, though, but I usually just wait 'til max level.

Yeah, I don't understand it at all. Who cares if someone wants to glamour something over their low level gear? It hurts no one. What's more, it would be a nice improvement in the QoL for alts... If they lowered the level requirement and redid the glamour system so that we weren't skinning specific pieces of gear and rather setting up individual outfits that don't change even when we change out to new gear... gah, that would be wonderful.

I'm not even sure why people keep bringing up subligar. I actually like that gear. o.0 What's more, it has NOTHING on the potato sacks and caster hats in terms of ugliness.

Yeah, and you could still make the glamour prisms required for that if crafters really don't want rid of them. I think the current setup and how quickly we go through gear meaning we have to use prism after prism after prism is the main point of contention. Myself, if the other features you suggested were implemented, I'd be happy with glamour prisms being kept. Demand would go down aye. But, I don't think it'd be too horrible. And would strike a nice middle ground and would be FFXIV's way of being unique. With WoW, you go to a transmog person and pay them to set up the gear look that way. With FFXIV, you'd use prisms instead. It's just a difference in approach and I think it would be a nice way of doing it.

Because, as of ARR, Glamour is the *true* end-game. Which is why you had to be at level cap to enable it of course.

Technically you can now get / ready to unlock it with mog station as well, if you have no class at 50 yet.... i know i know, just putting it out there.

See while technically you're right, the whole process of immersing yourself in the game world while leveling can be so much more enjoyable when you aren't cringing at many of the armor models. Casters especially are stuck in a parade of poofy potato sacks most of the time with only a few occasions of reprieve. Heck many people would be happy just looking like they are wearing their level 1 starter gear most of the time while leveling instead of someone the horrendous things they end up putting us in until we can finally glamour the pain away.

It's that which makes acquiring the Colosseum gear and the artifact and myth gear so enjoyable, finally you have gear that looks good. Until that time you have to get creative with what is given. Also the lack of glamour at those levels provides an incentive to obtain dungeon gear since it looks so much better than regular vendor gear does.

This is such an archaic attitude. People would still level. People would still do dungeons. I never felt any kind of satisfaction like you mentioned when I got my first artifact gear back in ARR. Why does it matter to other people if someone decides to costume over their leveling gear? With an argument like yours, it may as well be locked to level 70 now, which would be equally ridiculous.

You never spent time during ARR farming specific gear for it's look? Well, I know a lot of people that did exactly that, and they were very satisfied once they got all the pieces they wanted. I don't believe that my attitude is archaic, I think it's different from yours though. I see the game as something to be played, not simply as a means to an end, a leveling chore that must be done to hit 70 or whatever. Each to their own, if you want to call my view archaic, I'll call yours business-like.

The thing is... sure when you're leveling and get that coliseum outfit it's great... until you out level it and back in a poofy potato sack again :(

Sometimes you find a look you love... and giving it up because the potato sack has better stats hurts. When I first started playing, I found unlocking glamour a breath of fresh air. Finally I could stop wearing these ugly things and look the way I WANT to look. And you know what my first glamoured outfit was? My level 1 starter gear because I loved the way it looked so much. Having to wait 50 levels until you can stop looking like a hobo kinda hurts the whole leveling experience... at least for me it did.

On topic though they could lower the quest level to at least give players the option..

I've often felt it's the other restrictions that need scrapping like the I level and job restrictions (at the very least on headgear)

So OP is asking for easy and immediate access to what is essentially a reward for players who reach a milestone in the game?

Of course I did, but that has nothing to do with whether or not one is able to glamour at level 50 or level 1.

The ability to glamour doesn't need to be some reward locked behind 50 levels. The armors are locked behind levels and completing content - that is plenty of effort already.

It does when most players won't even be able to reasonably afford the fashion items until level 50 at least anyway.

I don't recall there being complaints about this in previous versions of the game, you have to consider where the older/veteran players are coming from (myself included). We worked our way through the original game to obtain this ability, put effort into accruing the funds necessary to actually have decent looking glamour of our choice and then a group of new players appear demanding that they shouldn't have to put any work into the latter half of the process because reasons?

It doesn't matter if some level 1 can't afford a crafted piece on the marketboard. What if they have a friend who wants to craft it for them? What if they're an alt of a long-time player? What if they don't care about those and just want to glamour their starter set or whatever? It shouldn't matter! Let people have fun! There's zero point in restricting fun behind arbitrary levels.

At what point have I said the effort was exclusive to players from 2.0?

The only restriction on any player not having the glamour ability is themselves and their willingness to earn it (get to lv50).

- If they are a new player and have a high level crafting friend, they are a minority player in the game.

- If they are a long time player leveling an alt, they know getting to 50 is not that arduous of a process in this day and age.

- The 3rd statement I don't really have anything to say in retort, but my best attempt would be that again they are a minority, most people would want to see some kind of progression in their gear when they are a new player.

At the end of the day it's a reward, just like armor dyeing was a reward for reaching Lv15.

Players should earn the ability to glamour, the only other means I would be accepting of is if they added a glamour potion to the Mog station that completes the quest for you at a reasonable price... Say a few $'s.

I simply disagree and you're not about to change my mind. I think there is plenty of earning and effort involved in actually obtaining the gear you want to glamour. The actual act of glamouring does not need to be locked behind nonsense levels.

Also, I didn't realize the level 1 crafted armor could be produced/obtained with no effort. Presumably someone has to craft them - either yourself or another - and if not you, then you must put in the effort to earn the gil to purchase it or the mats to have someone else craft it.

The argument for locking glamour to 50 always seems to revolve around "effort", but getting the damn glamour gear requires effort in the first place. Just let people have fun, for crying out loud.

I like the subligar. The individual I quoted was claiming that the level 1 glamours were the "best" and using that as a reason why sub-50 players shouldn't get to glamour. Thus my pointing out to them that "best" in terms of aesthetic is subjective. (Also they were wrong in that it would mean no one would have to put any effort into them.)

I was really referring more to the fact that when you aggroed stuff in that game it would usually *chase your ass down* until you zoned, not like this game where it gives up after following you for 10 feet.

You also did not get the *ping* and aggro lines when something was attacking you in that game, either. If you had your sound turned up high you might hear the low distinctive sound effect that an enemy type makes when it aggros you. Other than that you get no advance warning.

No sprinting, either.

Yes, it still was easy for someone who knew what they were doing, but you have to admit it was rougher in that game than here.

This is my take as well, especially since at level 17 they can also start running Palace of the Dead, and one of the main type of drops from the bags in PoTD is glamour items. Matching the system that uses said items with the level they can start becoming more readily available as a reward from a gameplay element makes sense.

Would also be a valuable lesson for said novice. It's alright to let players stumble from time to time.

I kind of liked trying out the different armor sets along the way. None of them are particularly flashy, which makes the endgame/expansion gear stand out more. Its an achievement that you work towards, not something that is handed to you. To do so would devalue it. I think...

And yes. The subligars are horrible. Most embarrassing dungeon ever.

Insane, lol good one. What's insane is the lack of patience being displayed by my fellow comrades. Just accept that the game doesn't give us everything we want now. We might actually be "forced" into delayed gratification, no matter how that makes you feel on the inside.
