How Would Viera Fit In XIVs lore?

But, you assume just as much that people want Viera solely for the rabbit ears. We don't, but rabbit people is a nice concept as is, so even just wanting an avatar with rabbit ears much like Miqo'te have their tails isn't a terrble request.

I mean, between both Raen and Xeala, about a fourth of Stormblood was spent dealing with and expanding the Au Ra lore. There was clearly a ton of potential in the new race if we get that much content on them alone. It's fun to create, yo.

I don't think I personally have ever assumed that. I don't like them because I think the ears just look bad.

Maybe an amazonesque island of some sort that we stumble upon during travels? If I remember my Viera the women were the warriors more than the men anyways.

It's artificially the most requested race, especially since posters such as yourself create multiple threads every month relating to Viera instead of keeping it contained to one particular thread. Then again, a quick browse through your post history shows that Viera aren't the only subject that track record is applicable to.

But seriously, can we have a race that's something other than just "Human + ears/tail/horns of a (insert animal here)."?

Out of the dozens of races found in Final Fantasy games over the decades, there must be a race that's more unique and visually distinct than that.

Plus, you can already stick rabbit ears on your (female) character. Do we really need an entire RACE of them thrown in as well...? :\

I'd rather see playable Lupin because they'd be something wildly different. Also, they're the only beast tribe that hasn't summoned a primal yet (which actually places them ahead of Ala Mhigans :P ).

I think the fear is that the more ammunition you leave a development path with, even from a community as unheard or unutilized as ours, the more likely it becomes. That, and simply the effort seems such a waste to those who dislike the development path that they figure discouraging the efforts amount to one's own good.

I can't say I don't understand the feeling, but you already have my constructive post on page 3.

The entire argument of "no it's stupid. I don't like it, so we shouldn't have it" is so childish. More content and more races is never a bad thing. The more variety and character customization options we have, the better, regardless of your bias against certain things. Viera is too popular to ignore forever.

As for the topic itself, it doesn't really matter. XIV can shoehorn anything they want into its lore. This game is pure fanservice and anything can be made to fit into the world. But I think when they add "Viera", they'll make a race that's exactly the same but called something differently. They could tweak it to fit their lore needs under a different name.

Not necessarily. It depends on how closely to your heart you hold the old saying of "Quality over quantity". If people feel like content and races aren't of the quality they deem suitable for their own standards then that has less to do with "being childish" and more along the lines of consumerism. This is all under the assumption that resource allocation on SE's part is heavily limited (Which we all know it is)- meaning that when the only stuff being released is stuff that isn't up to snuff in someones opinion, I feel like it's a perfectly valid reason to complain without the "childish" card coming out.

Hasn't one of the consistently stated concerns been that many don't trust a race not originally settled into the gameworld, and therefore allotted for in world-lore across all content, to be "more than just cat ears"?

This issue plagues any later-added race, but SE really kicked player trust in the gut with Au'ra, when the only excuse for the race was a single Ruby Sea native leading an otherwise entirely Hyuran group of Domans to refuge in Eorzea. Not to mention the difference between the concept art and the actual player models, and the yet continued clipping issues with additional racial features (as with tails, horns).

Namazu, Qiqirn, the Kojin technically aren't the ones that summoned Susano....

Also Viera are a lot more than just bunny ears on a hyur.

Point is that we already have a number of animal-humanoid races.
I would rather they focused their time and energy on expanding the customization of the races we already have, rather than just getting another animal-humanoid race.
Currently the face options for all races are rather limited, with only one or two options that don't look excessively derpy.

I am all for new races, but I would rather see half breeds of the races we already have.
There are only so many animal-humanoid races you can add before the game starts to feel like a zoo.

I wouldn't mind seeing Viera in game. However lore wise from the games that took place in Ivalice "FFTA, FFTA2, FFXII" only had female Viera in them. While this could easily be resolved through storytelling it seems like SE wanted to stay away from making races gender exclusive as back in FFXI Mithra which Miqote were based on were female only and Galka which roes were based off of were male only.

Ivalice also gave us the races of Bangaa, Nu Mou, Seeq, and Gria while also having playable moogles that were probably size wise about on par with a lalafel and didn't fly.

Take me to Ivalice and let me bring a Viera with me!!!

You know, if that happened I would absolutely laugh my head off (because by goodness it would be a troll and a half from Yoshi-P). Reason why they can't be playable after the Ivalice raid is released: lore and timeline. If the Ivalice raid is going to be a portal to the Ivalice, then it's impossible for them to be playable as something shouldn't exist before they can exist (it'd be a paradox and there'd be no explanation behind it). If it's not a portal to the Ivalice, then why haven't we seen them in FFXIV yet? Why aren't they vaguely mentioned or implied in the lore book?

I think Viera would be a GREAT addition IF they went for a amazon stereotype, females being very tall, slender, muscular... and the males being the complete opposite: short, with more delicate features.

Something like the inverse of Au Ra currently are.

viera of ivalice had male, they was only not the dominant like the miqote the women are the dominant and the male are hidding keep it away from the sight for protect them. (fran talk of it in FF12)

you realize we only have seen half of orthard and we haven't seen the biggest continent isalbard... then who know what exist there.... plus with the fact that the world is divided in dimension it perfectly possibel to have another umbral era with the merge and the apparition of a continent *shrugs* everything is possible.

They can't be on Othard, as there's no reason for them to not be in Kugane as random NPC's and if they were on Islabard, some would need to be Garlean soldiers (as Islabard is a region completely dominated by the Garlean empire), which we should have seen by now (why would the Garleans keep soldiers who would be nimble in combat on the back lines?). This leaves the New World to the west of Eorzea, which most likely has not been invaded by the Garleans and has little to no lore on it (all we know is that the Mamool Ja came from there). Or heck, maybe even Meracydia... somehow.

It's not possible to make Viera playable because of the Ivalice raid. Everything in FFXIV follows a timeline and we'll be doing the Ivalice raid after we finish the Stormblood story. If SE care about the lore of their game, they cannot/will not make a race that doesn't exist (until after a certain point in the story) playable.

That is not have forums work. You had to know what was going to happen when you made this thread, don't pretend that you are surprised. Anyone that has been on these forums for more than a week knows that Viera always cause a shit storm.

Also I hope we never get them. they are just humans with bunny ears, if they get added it should be as a third tribe for cats.

The poll never asked "Do you want Viera?" The poll asked "What type of race or clan would you most like to see added in the future? Mammalian demi-beastmen (ex. a rabbit-eared race such as the Viera from FFXII, etc.)" It is not Square Enix's fault that people have no reading comprehension, nor cannot use Google well enough to dredge up the correct information and realize they are spreading misinformation. Examples are not a "do you want this?" They are a comparison for something they already have in mind.

Looking over the poll again, I also just realized this myself. The final question doesn't ask player characters, only simply asking what types of races or clans would players like to see added along with all the values in which each region felt upon the choices. We will be seeing Viera in Return to Ivalice. We have the Lupin for mammalian beastmen, the kojin for reptilian beastmen, the au ra for reptilian demi-beastmen and Hilda? (jeeze I already forgot her name) from the Heavensward MSQ for more mixed races.

Are the Au Ra reptilian? Aside from some scales, tails and horns (all of which can be found on demons like the succubus), they're mostly human in appearance and humans are mammals.

I highly doubt they lay eggs.

Considering it all says "beastmen," I doubt our laws of nature apply. Plus magic. Not even sure if the kojin lay eggs, but they sure look reptilian to me, if you want to go that route. However, I'm going by the poll description of each choice and overall question, not semantics players want to point out (Reptilian demi-beastmen (ex. a race with demonic features such as horns, etc.) <-- fits Au Ra).

The only beast tribe I can recall any mention of reproduction at all is the sylphs. The only beastmen we know have male and female counterparts are kobalds, sylphs, and the vanu vanu.

If something has breasts, it's a mammal. The Au Ra are mammals. That said, they're closer to a succubus if you want to use earth lore as an analogy. The Dragons hatch from eggs, it's been implied as such.

But this is also a fantasy game, so it's just as viable to say that the Au Ra are half-dragon by magic in exactly the way the Miqo'te are half-cat. Think about creatures like Dolphins and Whales which are also mammals, but resemble fish, which aren't. The Au Ra may resemble the other mammals by virtue of sharing all the same features plus horns and tails, in the same way the Miqo'te resemble Hyur with cat ears and cat tails.
