As much as I want it this to happen as well, how would SE distinguish between a legitimate disconnection to someone forcibly disconnected because they were about to die? :(
Printable View
They would not be able to distinguish it but they should simply put us back to where we were and if someone disconnected because they were attacked by monster they would still be attacked by monsters thus most of the time die anyway. Also I do believe that this would benefit more people that had it happen without their doing than people truly forcing one.
maybe it's time let us restart at every 10th floor like we can from 1-100. then we don't lose our whole progress at a dc and we have as many tries as we want to reach floor 200 without wasting countless hours in the lower floors.
That would be a bit much I think but I would like at least some protect from DC (had just one after 79 floors. It really takes away the fun in the game..And this was from a file that I only wanted to use to level the job). Maybe have it so that you can go back to the floor if you log in the next 2-3 minutes. And maybe for 100+ give us some kind of scroll that let us start for like three times at 101 until one has to go back to <100 again. This would help greatly with training in the higher floors.
And make it even possible to beat those bosses solo x) otherwise such a title is completely useless.
That made me stop even trying to solo potd. At least for now. What's the point on trying something that can be ruined so easily not by mistakes or bad planning, but by a server that decided to kick you out the game for any reason and you see weeks of work vanished.
Yep, weeks: 200 floors are 20 hours of play time, if you want do a set of floors daily, they are three weeks of daily effort. The feeling when after two weeks and half you are kicked out by the server just to return a minute later with hope but facing then your KO isn't that great.
Edit: on second tought, being able to run 16 consecutive sessions without being kicked out, is an achievement by itself lolol!!!11!
Isn't there a title if you do solo all the floors? I wish I was good enough to get that far :3
Yes the 5 seconds on the 190. If we get a bit nit picky the highest solo killed boss is still 180 and probably will stay that way for a long time or even forever. (Depending if they do something or not)
@LalaRu: I agree. It seems that I am a bit of a masochist so I tried it again yesterday...and was kicked on floor 79 thanks to the server...I truly did rage quit FF14 for the day and decided to play Rift..really..these DCs suck out any motivation to play FF14 at all. Next to gathering and crafting, the palace was one of the things that I would love to throw myself at..but its frustrating me more and more..I am not even looking forward to the new deep dungeon in a few months..because if they dont change anything it will end the same way.
Well it seems that the floor 190 boss is soloable by a redmage because someone on the Japanese datacenter got to 194. Also the one that died in the video I linked tried it again and died at 4%. But it still seems that only one job will be able to do this thanks to having the combination of enough DPS and enough healing. So please still take a look at this SE, its not good balancing if only one job can even get the chance to get the title.
(Also DC will always be a problem)
Edit: I got a server dc (my internet was fine) exactly when boss 140 just needed one more hit...things like that really make me feel like not playing this game anymore..its just so frustrating..I think I will give up.
Heh, this still isn't done. My own attempt failed at floor 141 of all places.
Bluntly speaking, it won't be accomplished. DDoS was definitely a big issue, but removing that factor, it's just impossible with the current job/item toolkits and the RNG on the last 20 floors. And I can say its impossible, because it's been pretty much a full year since solo was introduced and it's still not completed, lol.
Unless it's patched or adjusted, it will sit incomplete.
Nah, what stops some people from doing solo including myself is the fact 1 d/c erases all your progress. A lot of people don't care to spend hours doing something knowing that if they d/c the time they spent is now lost/wasted. And yes in this situation it is wasted time because what caused you to lose out on a run was a 1 second disconnect that you had no control over.
If there was more safety over ones save there would be solo runs at 200, but as it stands now the only ones who are attempting floor 200 are those who are either ok with losing their progress with a d/c or those ignorant to the fact you lose all your progress if you d/c.
what stops people is the fact that half of the 190+ enemies 1 shot you with unavoidable attacks and you would need an almost impossibl huge amount of luck to clear it (getting the right enemies, pomanders, no negative room effects, etc)
I'm sure not actually getting anything from this achievement is a factor too. Even a mount would've been tons better than a title.
Out of curiosity though, do you have to start at floor 1 to get this? At this point they should probably consider allowing people to start at 101...there's literally no value in doing 51-100 and at this point it's just an unnecessary time-sink.
A mount would just be even more salt in the wounds because nobody would be able to get it right now. There are just too many points that will make you fail solo that its nearly impossible even if someone is playing perfectly. Random DCs and huge lags on the chaos datacenter (as an example), the RNG with pomanders, the timer that is probably running out on solo runs, the huge damage that those monsters do and much more...Someone needs to be able to run this from 1-200 (yes its from floor 1) without one single DC or lag (since lag could just kill you..) with a redmage (as the only job that is able to do that) which the right amount of pomanders (you wont survive some bosses without them), with the right amount of luck about monster spawns and enough time.
Thats just too much..
Also yes allowing at least solo players to start from 101 would help a bit but its probably not enough.
New record is Floor 198 by japanese red mage.
So?
Even if some people clear it in the next months or years, the same players will die at low 180s levels with a bit less luck.
Having 22 different pomander while actually wanting only 2-3 specific((strength), defense, rage), that is a ~10% chance of getting the right items during the last 18 levels. If you get none of them, you are running out of time or waste all your other pomander.
I wish we could balance bad luck a bit out, or this is just another epic grind achievement.
^ This.
Usagi looks to be the only one really trying right now. They got to 194 in the beginning of the month, now 198. Frankly, if they achieve it (which, honestly, I have faith they will), my first kneejerk reaction will be "nice, they won the lottery" not "damn that's one skilled/god player". There really wouldn't be any other reason anyone would clear 200 without literally hitting the jackpot multiple times in succession. If that's OK with developers...then there is nothing us, the playerbase, can do about it, sadly.
not sure what they did to the behemoth to make it soloable past the last 20% since i did it so long ago.
but 181-199 can wipe whole parties with one misstep, it must be like wining the lottery to get a combination of factors that lets you get through it solo and gold chests for more pomanders must certainly be out of the question since mimics at that point are so nasty
It honestly feels more like luck than skill since all the necessary skill is just knowing what mobs do what
i am going to try i am a Pld main i will try and make it to 200 if i am lucky i am 50-50 if i am gona use dps or tank
But those pomanders will not do much if you plan to go to 200 because you can only get 3 per pomander anyway. Depending on your RNG you might not have them at 101 either because you needed them in lower floors.

About someone getting to 198. Well I wish them all the best luck to get to 200 (and lets not forget that if they want the title they have to always try from 1 again..which are so many hours) but even if they somehow manage to do that I would still say that its nearly impossible because they would have only won out of sheer luck. (Yes skill too but in the end luck is the biggest factor..sadly..) This would still mean that SE should change it up..because they theoretically could make a savage run with pure RNG and someone might be able to win it but that would still make it a bad design descision..
Sorry if that sounds harsh but it would be a waste of time to try this with any other job than redmage. Tanks dont have enough DPS to do the DPS checks and any other DD will not be able to survive the hard hitting attacks. People have tried and there are some higher ups tanks and DDs but there is a reason why anyone after 170/180 only try this with redmage.
I feel like we're prepping to dismiss this JP guys floor 200 solo clear before it's even been done.
If they get floor 200 solo it won't be just pure luck, it'll be luck combined with knowing what they're doing and practicing it. Sure, the luck factor should be much less important, but 99% of players, even if they were even luckier than this guy, wouldn't be capable of making it as far.
We are not saying that you dont have to be good at the job but since people also tried to reach that high they know that its mostly luck. Nobody gets the same spawns or same rates of pomanders. If you dont get certain pomanders you wont survive certain bosses. Also the timer is one huge point too which can only be solved if you have certains pomanders with you otherwise you will run out of time and probably get one-shotted by some monsters. x)
So sadly this is still mostly luck.
Until the affirmation "you need pomander X to clear boss Y" is true, potd 200 is luck only.
Getting solo 200 requires doing everything that it's possible to control the outcome of near flawlessly, it also requires a lot of luck along with it (unfortunately.) But to say that it's luck only is incorrect.
If someone manages it I'll be impressed, regardless of my own feelings on the content and how I think it should be changed.
It's been cleared.

Even though it has been cleared I would like to decrease RNG, because you cant beat it without ok/good luck.
I thought about it a bit, some suggestion here were a bit to largescale for SE I fear, so I go with a tiny one now that should work too...
The Pomander of Affluence currently only increases the chance of chests on the next floor, it is an RNG item, could be that it has no real use to you or could be that it is very useful.
I would change it that it always spawns 1 steel and 1 strength chest at the next floor, instead of x random ones. It will still be troublesome/maybe impossible to try to get those chests on higher floors, this isn't a big gamechanger but its an opportunity to not end the run prematurely because of lack of steel and strength.
Congrats to Usagi Mimi! Wish I could see a video of it, myself.
But, yeah.
It's like the S-rank Tiger mount, but 10 times worse. Unless SE does something to change the way it's tuned, Usagi might see only a handful of other players sit beside them during the entire life-time of FFXIV with that victory.
But, we should be getting the second Deep Dungeon this year. So, anything could change with how the system will work when you see only one player (or a few, since we have time) out of millions could do it.
Congratulation on the one that cleared it. That takes quite a huge dedictation to continue banging your head against that.
Still hope that this does not mean that we wont get any kind of changes because even if its clearable its still just too much.
I'd argue it's even worse because with hunts, no progress is ever lost. You might progress as a snail's pace but you're still making progress. I got 7 S rank kills today alone, not a bad haul, now sure I got lucky, but it's not like if I had missed any of those hunts my counter would've been reset. And certainly not to bad rng and connectivity issues. I dare say a lot more people would've cleared it by now if the mode had been even a bit more forgiving. Letting you start at 151 for instance would've left you with a lack of pomanders, sure, but at least then if you botched the boss you'd have just had to start there, no 100 floors before. That sort of handicap makes the tiger and the mentor roulette achievs look like child's play - at least there you always move up with the count.
