Some jobs I still like to use some Artifact armor for, which unfortunately means the other jobs that share that gear are stuck with the base appearance of those items so it can be a total mess. Or some times I just want to change looks for the same job if the glamours were saved to gear sets instead of the actual gear (the gear sets already store glamour information! so we're already almost there) then we could just simply swap gear sets for extra looks!

Needing storage space for glam + limited storage space makes me broadly disinterested in glam/buying glam items.

I mean, this suggestion would make it worse. If no classes shared gear, you would need to carry a unique piece of gear for each class (2 for rings). I think there is more than 35 classes in this game - so really, no space to store it.

I have all the gear sets I'm getting from the 50 and 60 job quests as I'm levelling sitting in their boxes on a retainer. I don't dare open them even to see what they look like because I don't have the 5 open slots to store it.

Shared gear needs to be able to have a different appearance/job ,ohhhhhhhh yes

What we really need is the ability to change glamors mid-battle, so we can assign glamors for each different stance, spell or weaponskill.

Also while on the topic of glamour, please allow us to save different hair styles with gear sets as well. Some hair styles look really good with hats, and some look terrible with hats. Instead of having to run to the aesthetician every time I change jobs, it would be nice if I could just save different hair styles with gear sets instead. Longer hair style with a hat for Bard or Red Mage, braided ponytail for White Mage or Paladin who I do not use a hat for. Etc.

I do want a feature like this. Crafters in particular have the conundrum where class specific sets look really cool but take too much space, and shared sets are convenient but can't really use class specific glamours. I don't know if its been stated yet, but it was mentioned in the last live letter that big changes are planned for glamours. Hopefully the upcoming changes can include a feature like this.

I hate I can't glamour my PLD in its new AF gear AND my DRK in its AF gear if I am using the Lost Allagan Sets.

I love the look of my RDM gear, and it sucks that when (if) I level SMN or BLM, I won't be able to glamour them separately as well.

I like both the look of ASTs dress and WHM AF gear set, but I know once I am done leveling WHM and have to wear my verity set, I will have to choose...and I don't wanna!

Seriously, we need a odd number patch that will address our current glamour system. If it's a question that is constantly asked every darn LL, then maybe it's time to bump that issue up in the priority list!?

We've had more than enough years to deal with this, it's high time it was adressed, even if the entire code needs to be overhauled.

Hopefully. That would be a step in the right direction. As much as I want a glamour log, I would like to be able to have unique appearances for jobs first but I guess that's better than nothing for now. It would certainly help clear up some inventory and like.. an entire retainer's worth of space lol.

A glamour log and more housing options are the only things I want badly right now. Please make it happen!

They seriously need to completely rework the glamour function. Having to horde all this old armor and glamour items is ridiculous, having glamour locked behind different jobs sucks, and not being able to have different glamour for each job gets in the way with jobs that share gear but one has antiquated armor you want for it.

I'm just salty cuz I want that new Leather Jacket that the gatherers get but I cant glamour it over my outfits. /sadface

Heres to hoping oneday they will change all these things! :D

My only encouragement on this is how long it took WoW to implement their transmog armory system. I'm hoping it doesn't take as long for FFXIV, but I keep reminding myself the game is only 4 years old. They still have time to improve.

Glamour Slot: used to equip a Glamour Prism, a crafted item. Glamour Prisms can be used to record what the player is currently wearing. When using a Glamour Prism, players will need to give it a short name. Gearsets will remember which Glamour Prism you have equipped for each gearset. I'm really curious why they decided to lock the new gathering gear to disciples of the land now. Before this wasn't the case. Except for unique job specific gear (artifact armor) nothing should be locked really.

I remember hearing somewhere a while ago part of the reason they didn't unlock everything is because in pvp they want you to know what jobs you are fighting against by looking at then and not get deceived. However, nearly everyone wears bathing suits or something similarly stupid so it's not like you can tell they are a Paladin anyway. If they are really concerned about that, in ranked pvp they should have forced job artifact armor glamour for "balance" and recognition. Everywhere else does it really matter if you can't tell what someone is by looking at them? I know this can be done because they did it in the story when you participate as part of the grand melee on behalf of Ishgard and they put you in Ishgardian armor so.. "code, servers, PS4 limitations, starving kids in Africa blah blah blah" excuses cannot even apply there because they've already done it.

It's not good to compare this game's vanity system to any other games' because what other multiplayer game with heavy vanity allows you to play multiple jobs on one character (full jobs with distinct gear sets, not just spec changes)? Not WoW, not Wildstar, not GW2, not SWTOR, not LOTRO, not ESO, not PSO2 (multiple jobs but no gear other than weapon), not Diablo III, not ...

Just because of the multi-job and multi-armor nature of FFXIV you would need a multi-pronged approach to completely fix Glamour.

1) A Glamour log.
This took WoW a decade and required an overhaul of certain systems to do and it was worth the wait but who knows harrowing it was to rewrite all that code. Even if it only pulls from gear you own, can craft, and stuff accessible from the Salvager, it would be really nice just to have all your accessible glamours in one spot to mess with.

2) Job-specific glamours.
WoW does this with their spec-specific transmog but there's only a max of 4 possible specs for each character. FFXIV has to make this work with up to 26 jobs and rising for the various all-class items so WoW's system probably won't work. Glamour is done tangibly in the game via the Glamour Prisms, so for flavor reasons the best suggestions I've seen are to tie Glamour sets directly to the jobs via new Soulstone functionality (and add a prism-only "Soulstone" for those without them) or utilize that bottom-left empty space in the paper doll for a new Glamour Prism slot in which you can save sets of glamour.
I am stupid because I pentamelded 8 sets of crafter gear and 3 gathering sets because I like the job-specific DoH/DoL sets - please stop making visually amazing crafter/gatherer sets that are practically useless out of the gate. This would save my sanity because overmelding is still dinosaur-era bunk.

3) Removing job restrictions on non-"Artifact" gear.
Let's face it devs, tanks can run around in bikinis so why is it so immersion-breaking if they can also appear to run around in heavy DRG armor?
I imagine a lot of the reason is spiritbond abuse.
Yet another reason is ilvl abuse to get around ilvl-restricted duties.
Another reason is people being confused over what gear to wear, but they haven't changed job-restricted ARR gear where the problem is the worst.
I don't have an answer to gear confusion other than keeping the jobs listed on the gear (and adding it to ARR stuff), but ilvl and spiritbond can be fixed by gear giving no stats, spiritbond or ilvl contribution if not equipped by the appropriate class/job as recommended by the item (cue tanks going "but mah 270 jewelry"). Also add generous ilvl reqs to levelling dungeons.

There is already precedent for unrestricted gatherer/crafter gear for glamours, but you need 50/60 in the respective job to use them (Korean Live Letter https://i.redd.it/9182jozozd1y.png)

Looking at all that, it makes keeping chocobo buddy out during duty queues look like child's play. What a sad mess.

Right, I put hand by mistake because I intended to say both but got sidetracked while replying. But the glamour for both is locked to hand/land now instead of all classes like it was before. Just not sure why they randomly decided to do that now after not doing it in Heavensward with anything but the job specific gear.

I'd much rather they let us have more than one piece of armor of the unique sets, so I can have separate sets with different materia for black mage and red mage for instance.
As for the glamour I really wish it was like the GW2 System.

Probably because people were wearing gathering and crafting gear to dungeons (rarely) and because they locked everything else as well.

I would be ok with that. But only if they still let me glamour gathering gear for battle classes and let me glamour tank accessories as a healer and so on. I get that I should not wear crafting gear as a battle class but why can't I even glamour it?

I hate the fact that there are so many robes/dresses as gear for guys. Give us more jackets more hoodies more shorts and less robes and dresses. Feel like i'm playing Game of Thrones or Lord of the rings.

Im not sure if its been mentioned, but I like SWTOR's system over WOW's as it does not tie the glam to pieces at all.
Its a little like costumes in GW2, except you get to make the costume from individual pieces you have collected and stamp them into a set, and you can have up to 16 sets.
But I do like the gear collections system in wow, tie that into the SWTOR system and you have the ultimate glam system. :)

Sounds kind of like Lord of the Rings Online had. You made up to 7 different outfits that you could switch between at any time, and then of course the 8th slot was the "gear" look so you go back to the appearance of the gear you had on if you liked it. Plus it was all dyeable, and appearances can be unlocked/stored indefinitely in your bank so you never had to keep it on hand anymore. This is a game much older than XIV and had a way more robust cosmetic system.

Either way, I want to see what Yoshi has in mind since they mentioned something about glamours and recalling appearances in the last live letter. All I know is, if I can't have different looks per gear set rather than the gear itself so I can finally make my jobs look different, I'm going to be pretty upset.

100% this. Is SE oblivious to what their subscribers are up to? A lot of the glamours players are after can be quite time consuming to get. Many glams require dungeon runs, high level crafting and gathering, gil dumps, EX trial runs, acquiring expensive dyes, and so forth. If they think players don't put as much effort, if not more into their glamour than trials and raids then they truly don't have a clue.

Given the ability to glamour all their jobs they take seriously without consequence, players would spend even more time acquiring their glams. SE should probably get on board, before even dedicated players decide to jump ship.

This is essentially WildStar's system as well, with 12 costume sets plus one for the default gear. And once an appearance is learned, you can vendor/salvage the gear.

I never played WildStar but it's pretty frustrating to see all of these games with much better cosmetic systems than Final Fantasy. I don't know why such a huge aspect of the game was overlooked by devs. Nothing would get players to run old content more than glamour.

Not really. They already have all glamour information saved in every gear set, down to what color each piece is dyed. The information is already there.

Not even that. The gearsets even remember what gear was glamoured onto something. Go ahead and test it yourself. Get an item and put glamour on it. Save the gearset. Then remove the glamour but do NOT save the gearset. Switch to the gearset and it will come up saying about its different.

That's true, didn't think of that the frame work is there then. I might be easier for them to change then I thought, buuuut they still aren't doing it.

My first ever proper MMO was DCUO, and for all the flaws that the game has, I have to say that the outfit system is not one of them. It's simple, you get an item, equip then un-equip it and the style is in to your style tab, and you can freely delete the item.

Tying glam to sets as opposed to gear may not work because it could ruin the game's economy? Glamour prisms are a constant source of income. When you tie the glamour to the item, you're forced to use a prism when you get new gear. If you're not a crafter (like me), you have to buy a prism (generally around 20 prisms for sometimes an absurd amount of gil).

I have five additional SCH sets which have the items equipped for the style, just to see how the potential glam may look like (and for PotD/PvP where gear doesn't matter). By giving me the ability to tie a glamour to a gear set instead of gear, I'll probably make one purchase of ten prisms, do everything I need, and then be set for a few long months.

This could also potentially raise the price of glamour prisms as well, seeing as people would buy them more rarely and only when they need to, which crafters/sellers could abuse.

IMHO the whole prism idea should be removed as well, but that's a pipe dream. It's just far too needlessly complicated, even after they removed those dumb glamour prisms sorted by level.

I would just like it so that any piece of gear can be glamoured on any job.
My 2B Glam is dying to be on Sam but is Bard/mach only

This has been asked for since glamour was introduced to the game, I realy SE add this feature to the game.
