That's just silly. Thats like saying if you take the prizes away from a carnival game and you don't enjoy it anymore, then it was never fun to begin with. It was fun until you sucked all the prizes away...
I would love to see how many "casuals" would still play this game if content didn't drop glamour anymore. Or how many would be upset if they started giving out cash shop items for free every time it's a patch old. How many would still buy items from the cash shop at full price, if they knew the same stuff would be given out in a patch or two for 10% of the price.
This is part of the reason people's interest levels in FF14 are dropping off. At least for me, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I prob won't even bother doing 4.0s relic because i know they will end up nerfing it 100 times by the time 5.0 comes out. If I do it at all, I'll wait till it's been made trivial.
Not everyone cleared Floor 200 on Day 1, and not everyone clears other content on Day 1. I just want to point that out. My point stands for any content: if people want the rewards from it, at least put in the effort to earn them. Don't expect them to just be handed to you.
I cleared Floor 200 literally 2 days ago. After many failed attempts. But I kept trying, I cleared, and I got my Firecrest from it. I plan to go in and clear it again. Why? Because I want to. Because it was fun.
I'm really sorry to hear about that. That's just rotten luck there. :c If you're ever looking for anyone to do a Floor 200 group though, provided I have the free save slots, I'm always willing to help. PotD is cross-server now with 4.0 release, so it should be easier to find a group and hopefully coordinate with them all. I'm honestly eager to get back in and work my way up to Floor 200 again; I thought it was a lot of fun getting there. And even with the frustration and the wipes, I still enjoyed the progression.
good maybe like to point them out cause I spent days looking for people and if that a mighty big if find 3 others we get to 101-150 or so and all sudden someone got to go and then spend a week or more trying get a time so everyone on to go further and then someone says their out cause 1 or 2 people can't get on at the same time or don't show when do and once more back to looking for others and I would like to get these yard trophies but again kind of hard when you stuck with random people who don't show up
I agree with OP. I actually never tried going after 100+ floor but I see normal that people could get a special reward by doing such a thing and I don't really understand why would they do this, but well... Hopefully when the "new potd" gets released we will get new items for those that complete it.
This is something I have never, and will never, understand in games. How exactly does what anyone else does invalidate what you have done? Does it make you forget the feeling you had when you finally beat it (I saw all of your posts of the struggle and your eventual success and you seemed quite over the moon for it, as well you should be). Does it make what you did any less of an accomplishment? When you look back are you going to remember "yay I got an earring" or "wow that content was really hard and WE BEAT IT!"
At the end of the day, you have the best reward of all... the knowledge that you successfully accomplished something that not everyone (and not even a lot of people I would say) has done. If (and I stress that IF) it is really on a vendor, what do they have? A piece of furniture and an earring. I don't know about you, but I would hands down take what you got out of it over what they did.
My issues lie with people wanting rewards without putting forth the effort to obtain them. The post you quoted was merely what I was assuming the individual I had quoted was talking about, not my personal views.
With regards to my success, I am still over the moon about it, and I am using my knowledge of the later floors to try and help others clear the later floors, be it with helpful advice tidbits or actually going in with them myself, as I plan to do with my static and perhaps even a few other people that aren't on my server now that it's cross-server. But again, I think that if people want the shinies, they need to put forth the effort to obtain them. Not just be able to get them for nothing. And this is with regards to everything, not just PotD.
I can understand that, I think it is silly (not the appropriate word, but it will do) for people to want things but not be willing to do what it is needed to get them, but at the same time I don't care if they are given an easier way out. Not sure if I can articulate this well enough, but basically if someone is given a shortcut my reaction isn't "that isn't fair they got an easy button!" it is "look at those poor saps taking handouts".
We are different people, so I can appreciate your views on it. ^^ Perhaps one day I can adapt that way of thinking; might be easier on me lol. For now, it's still just "I wish others would just put forth some effort if they really want X item, rather than just expect to get it for nothing."
honestly i thought they were like items to help in potd lol, I am inclined to agree these shoulda stayed "exclusive" to floor 200 clears, and thats coming from someone thats never been past 100 XD
I still actually hope it's just a trade between the two items, I'd still like to go back and actually clear floor 200 and get the item.
I can certainly respect that view, and I don't disagree, I just think in different ways sometimes, lol. I, personally, would rather not have something at all then to have it made easier because I take that as "You aren't good enough to actually do this so I am going to dumb it down for ya." Of course, logically, I know that's not what they are doing when things are made easier.. it is just a personal weirdness. :P
Then I suggest you first go and complain about the concept of inheritance, because as it stands, children all around the globe obtain the heritage of their parents without ever putting in any effort for it. They frequently are even entitled to it, if the parents didn't openly deny it to them.
Do you really think someone like Bush could ever have become president if his efforts and merit had decided? Hah!
Erm most MMO's have rewards for effort no matter if you enjoyed or didn't enjoy the content the natural state is to be rewarded for time/effort spent.
You spend time getting exp, you get rewarded with level ups and new abilities. You spend time getting tomes/tokens and you get gear/weapons as a reward. You spend time doing primal fights and you get weapons/tokens/mounts. You spend time doing savage raids you get the best item level gear for that patch cycle.
The whole FFXIV system is reward based so this is kinda....I mean external rewards are the normal baseline. I can't even think of a piece of content in FFXIV where it isn't "you do this, you get this"...Can you?
Everyone has different priorities and enjoy different aspects...you just need to think outside of your own personal views...
Person A likes the journey and doesn't care about rewards.
Person B likes both the journey and the rewards.
Person C likes the reward only so they do the journey, but it was mostly only for the reward and either disliked the journey or was neutral about the journey to get there.
You might think person C is silly or shouldn't do that, but that is what person C likes...so telling people to "just don't do it" is just such a waste of time. If they really liked and wanted the reward and that journey was the only way to get it...and they are willing to accept that and do it then they made that choice.
There are many different kinds of content in FFXIV which means some content you might end up doing just for the reward because you need or want it, while there is also plenty of other content you enjoy the journey and reward.
I personally don't like crafting very much, but I do it...because I appreciate the efficiency of having crafters readily available if I need them. So I want that aspect so I do it even though I don't care much for it.
As for this topic...I feel it is too soon to worry about this. The patch notes were vague and if I had to make an educated guess I am thinking you probably need to have cleared floor 200 at least once in order to purchase these items off the NPC...similar to some of the other items.
SE most likely doing this cause want to or to many complaining about only getting them in 200 all cause their PF groups people make get flakes who don't show when agreed time comes or make excuse after excuse why not to.
So go message SE and tell them leave this as a only can get clear 200 and from now on anyone who join a group and get to 101+ and then the group disbanded all cause this person didn't want to go on or didn't show then lock said person out of potd 101+ for the next month or 2 and bet everyone will finish a group when they join it
i cleared floor 200 just one week ago and i was SO proud of my Glass Pumpkin Earring, more proud than showing of raid gear.
i am sad now D:
What I get from this is: "Oh no casuals are finally experiencing what raiders have been going through since 2.0!!"
It's entirely possible that they will be like the music and require 200 to be cleared before becoming available for purchase just as a way to get more pillars for decorating or something
i don't think "casuals" - i think you actually mean "players of lower skill", since there are causals who are raiders - will be able to clear floor 200. you need skill to clear the thing. it's maybe easier than raiding, but it's still harder than expert dungeons and 24 people raids or any other casual content. you can't memorize PotD like you can a raid. when 4 chimeras are walking towards you at once and you know they can oneshot you you have to make decisions, planning what to do in seconds and a mistake wil throw you 130 floors back.
and i dislike the "free for all" nerfs in general. i was hoping at least PotD stuff will stay as hard content since it has it's own leveling system and it's unlikely you can do it unsynched - but it seems square has found another way to destroy our hard work once more.
if this is actually the case, then i am fine with it. at least you have cleared floor 200 then and don't get the stuff for basically free.
I read that once and was like "yea" and then my brain kicked in and I was like "oh crap, good point". PotD has gone exactly over content and been "yoink, random reward now~! cheap 2k on the MW".. so its a bit fitting that PotD would PotD itself lol.
I have said it before but I think the rolling mountain is the right approach for Theme Park MMOs these days, so the peaks move forward and the old peaks come down - so this change does not really bother me. For spectacularly difficult items it might be good to keep plateau in mind (still roll it down the hill a bit, but also not make it the most easy thing, say for example a 20 hour grind goes to ~1/2 - 1hr instead of 10 seconds and sticks there). The rate things fall down the hill I think is good thing to argue (too fast makes everything pointless to grind cause the next item will be easy if you just wait) but I'm not really in favor of any sort of "keep it at level 11 forever" as it dies in content limbo.
I'm honestly shocked.
I just saw your pictures in the DF thread yesterday (congrats, btw, you did awesome and you persevered!!) So I understand how fresh and grievous this is.
I'm hoping the full patch notes will reveal that the purchase method at least requires clearing the 200th floor, though I don't know how you acquire them now lol. I've only been up to floor 120, had a good group trying to clear last weekend but we didn't have time to finish due to schedules.
Sorry Hyomin, can definitely see why you're upset.
I have never entered floor 101 of Palace of the Dead. Should I be allowed to get those items if I'm willing to dish out the money, shortcutting my way to fame? I say no! Square-Enix should not allow me to do that! Not that I'd want to, but I guess some people will.
The best possible way to handle this would be that you can only buy these things IF you've cleared the appropriate floor. For instance I've never been below floor 100, I cannot buy the music rolls allotted to floor 150 and floor 200, they just don't show up. So if the Firecrest and Glass Pumpkin are the same then only folks who have cleared that deep will be able to buy them. Whether they make it possible to sell it on the MB.
(If it already works this way ignore me, like I said I've never been down that deep.)
The furniture lost its unique value when people started selling the set for 20 millions gil. It's untradeable but can be transferred to another player through Tenant system. Both earrings are ugly and I've never seen anyone glamouring them. I have the red one and it's just too massive.
I don't mind really if any willing people will be able to buy them for 99 potsherds.
I keep seeing this argument... is this supposed to be some sort of valid reason to allow these items to just become easily obtainable with no effort? They're ugly, so it's okay? I don't like them, so it's okay? They don't mean anything to me, so it's okay? I don't understand this. I mean, I personally love both earrings, which is why I went for them as opposed to the yard trophies (that, and my yard is full).
I think the Alexander Creator Savage weapons are all ugly; doesn't mean I think people should be allowed to get them via little effort, or that I would be okay if people could have bought them with tokens from Normal Mode.... :/
(Also, never seen anyone selling the yard trophies on my server, so I guess that's just on yours, maybe?)
I'm still hoping the purchase system is only for those who have actually cleared Floor 200. I'll find out in about 8 or so hours, I suppose.
Thank you, and I really hope so as well. I knew I probably wasn't going to be able to obtain both an A12S clear, and a Floor 200 clear before SB, so I chose to go with Floor 200 (I figured it was worth it, since I already obtained BiS for BRD), and I worked so hard and wiped so much. So yeah, my knee-jerk reaction was really because my clear was so fresh, and it just seemed like such a smack in the face.
Hopefully it's a token exchange only available to those who have actually reached Floor 200. That is more than okay with me.
It works the same way for the earrings and trophies. I'm not thinking they'll allow them to be sold on the MB, no. I'm more concerned about them being purchasable for, say, 99 Potsherds regardless of if people have actually cleared to Floor 200 or not. I really wish Patch Notes (Preliminary or no) weren't so vague with regards to some things, because with so many other changes being made in SB (some good, but some bad), I don't think vague is the best way to go at the moment.
Those 2 towers are gonna look nice in my house.
Oh hey, some items lost "exclusivity" that benefit me for a change. Yup, I'm ok with this.
If this becomes a simple purchase it's kind of an insult to everyone who actively tried to get these items. RIP bragging rights of getting all the way from 1 to 200. I hope it's just being able to change one token for another.
I've cleared floor 200 a while ago. This doesn't bother me.
As someone who cleared 200 half a dozen times, I'm totally fine with this
Someone here still didn't understand SE's policy of "CASU RULE THE WORLD".
I think we should just submit to SE and offer them our butt since that is what they aim for.
I don't think it's that different to lowering the RNG on EX mounts dropping after a certain amount of time. When you think about it, going to 200 with 70 skills will likely be a lot simpler anyway - and there's still the mount to consider. There's bound to be a new POTD mountain to climb.
Appears it's just new items in exchange for them. There are new chokers, wristbands and rings.
Looks like it was just worded very poorly in the notes.
The Japanese patch notes just say more items can be exchanged for them now. There are a few English notes this time which make no sense or actively mean something different (in my case I was sad when the ambiguous wording for the undersized party restrictions turned out to be limited to HW content only, as the English was way too vague).
[QUOTE=HyoMinPark;4198594]
C'mon not everyone is as free as you...why complain...there are alot of exclusive stuff like title and so on...many people have to work ...no work=no money how to pay sub???
