What do I do if I feel like dressing like a dude one day and a chick another day? T__T My wallet can't handle all those Fantasias, mang!

This lighthearted version of the argument is certainly better for my stress levels.
Yes, for once I got lucky with fashion! I love your Au Ra boy too, their wasp waists give some cute glamour options :)
To continue the thread's intended theme, I dug into my retainers and decided to try my take on the first look Lukha tried out.

I'm wearing a skirt but it sort of vanished into the gown.
:: Douses fire with Fluid Aura:: None of that, now.
Today's look is a more practical adventuring ensemble in subdued colors, that still manages to be sexy with a little flash of thigh:

Lukh'a doesn't look quite as good in that top as Rokke's Au Ra gentleman, but I think he'll do.
I love the colors you picked for your Swansgrace set, Serilda! I can only get away with the metalic colors as accents, mostly, but the gold goes really nicely with your character's coloring <3.
Doing my best to just ignore the people trying to turn this into a debate thread. It's been debated to death in other threads and we just go around and around and get no where, so why bother, screenshots are more fun than arguing
Stupid question, but do images automatically resize when you hyperlink them? I've always wondered how people get their pictures to fit just right in the comment box.
loreleidiangelo: I believe they automatically resize, at least if you use imgur for the pictures.
Lukha: Your Miqo'te has a different kind of appeal with his softer, cuter face; I can't really pull off most colours as they make me look like a zombie so it's a double-edged sword :D
A whole bunch of flame posts vanished (it wasn't me) so I guess this means that the powers that be don't mind the campaign but dislike the RL slurs. Which is good.
Mention has been made of the upcoming Edda glamour and how it's most likely going to be female-only. I don't like the sound of that! There's no real difference between putting a guy in Edda's costume and putting them in the AST AF set.

I think my Elezen pulls it off well (he certainly looks happy enough), but I know there are a lot of people with more rugged-looking male characters who weren't happy with the aesthetic. Better to use completely optional glamours for that kind of thing, in my opinion, so I'm hoping Edda isn't locked at all.

It might also be a cultural factor as well. Not as many male crossdressers in Japan compared to this game's Western audiences last I checked.
Would love to see the development-based response for why such restrictions are implemented though. Seems a bit silly to protest against the issue when there's little to no knowledge of why the issue is even a thing in the first place.
That's one of the points we're trying to make with this thread, really. If they're so dead-set against crossdressing (they aren't), why is it so easy to wear clothes which were blatantly designed for the opposite gender? It's also sort of fun to dress up instead of arguing in words alone :)
I'm 100% convinced that the restriction is based on thoughtlessness rather than malice. Someone on the team likes tomboys and they forgot to consider the opposite scenario also exists in this world.
There's no difference between a frilly dress adorned with roses and the above robes? Right...

What did ever happen with the Edda gown? Weren't we supposed to get that T_T
Dude, the Atrologian AF isn't a robe, it's just one more in a line of ballgowns for healer players. They mare some minute concessions to masculinize the design on male characters, but they really just highlight that the item is a dress, given that they don't actually change the profile at all.
Hopefully held back until they can figure out how to create a male equivalent without causing some sort of critical server failure. Maybe it'll be possible once they drop PS3 support!
Lukha, I think that your Strife glamour picture was deleted when the troll posts were removed. This is an emergency! We need more Lukh'a!
I can literally wear roses in my hair in this game, and that outfit is a dress, with frills, specifically given a feminine aesthetic according to the words of this very game's design team. Pretty sure it passes. Of course if there was literally no difference there would be no point in releasing things :s
So it was, oops. Photobucket is a nightmare to navigate by tablet, but I just couldn't let that stand:

I've actually got three versions of this outfit with different leg, boot and head pieces 'cause I was having such a hard time deciding that I tried to have my FC vote on which was sexier. I think this was ultimately best of the bunch (though it would be even better if those ribbons could be pink like canon Cloud).
More later, I've got a idea for some good shots.
Indeed, Nintendo is notorious for proving this statement on Japan's typical views. It's why I find it sad when people think they're "being progressive" by allowing minor things, but whatevs. One can dream of freedom in video games, but even that is restricted and confined... freedom is an illusion.
Anyways, back on topic; personally I'm kinda okay with my female characters only having access to feminine clothes to an extent... sometimes I like having my miquote being tomboyish, and for those days I have her dress in Cloud's clothes. One thing that annoyed me was not being able to wear Cid's goggles because of the gender lock, as it was just the right thing I needed to give my character a steampunk look, but whatevs. I'm not one to gripe about stuff unless it's extremely annoying, but I'd still appreciate it if they could remove locks on clothes. Gives us more freedom to customize, I don't see anything terrible about it.
I fail to see how that would not work on a male character.
Oh no, roses and frills!
I think balance is important. Beyond that, I am all for more variety. Let the guys get some frills. For that matter I wouldn't mind some less frilly stuff and for the love of all that is holy just one open short sleeved jacket that doesn't have a skirt attached. I was really keen for the 3.3 MNK/NIN gear until I realised the chest piece had the skirt attached.
Going for the Miko/Shrine Maiden aesthetic this time. I usually avoid red because it clashes with Lukh'a's hair, but in this case I think it makes for a really well-coordinated look.

You can have skirts for male characters when we females actually get some nice skirts that aren't job specific, and don't have god awful weird half pant additions (looking at you freaking star velvet skirts).
Pssst, the point of this thread is that we already have most of the same skirts you do (and also that females already have a lot more things than males).
Though I'd give a lot for access to those 'half-pant' models you got, rather than the full-pant models available to males. I'd be more than happy to trade, and if they were to add a /pants toggle that worked like the /visor toggle I'd be absolutely ecstatic.
You've got more options than we do. That's the issue. You don't like your skirts?
I've got one skirt total in my pants slot that isn't job-specific, and that's the plain long skirt. I had to craft one up so I could wear it with my lord's yukata for an outfit in preparation of stormblood, since there's not any "long yukata" style piece of gear. Just the one skirt.
I really like that hair style on Lukh'a. It works so well with his hair colour.
It's not really suitable for this thread (there's a separate glamour requests topic somewhere) but a full length pleated skirt like the Asuran/Yasha hakama would be a good piece to make non-job-specific for those seeking a Doman look as a melee role. Naturally, like the originals it shouldn't be genderlocked. There are also a ton of mid-length dungeon drop skirts which cannot be dyed and are therefore not so useful as glamour pieces.
Since skirts seem to bring out a lot of craziness, I took a non-skirt picture of a set with an openly feminine aesthetic which I'll upload when I'm back home. There's so much glamour to pull from in this game, making the bizarre omission of certain options all the more glaring.
There's a few hakama you can wear. I forget the name right now but you can buy them cheap from the centurio vendors in the forgotten knight and they're dyable with an upgrade. I use the old casting hakama a lot for glamour since it's the closest thing we have a to a long pleated skirt.
The thing is that with the thread's title, it gives the feel like all those picture are meant to oppress SE for them to finally make everything gender unlock?
But I'm not sure how this is supposed to oppress them.
Boys in skirts?
http://i.imgur.com/Z2q5faO.png
We don't want to oppress Square-Enix!
We want to demonstrate that:
- Some people like dressing their characters up in glamours that very conservative people don't like. The world doesn't end when we do.
- Male character models have very nice legs too.
- When we ask for equal glamour treatment and get told that it's impossible because S-E don't like putting boys in skirts, it's nonsense.
- We aren't going to forget about this request and go away just because it hasn't yet been addressed.
- It's honestly liberating to respond to jibes by putting a flower in your hair and dancing instead of getting upset.
My preferred reaction would be that the S-E reps get a smile out of this thread, not a frown. That's why I try to pose my lanky Elezen to look confident in his clothes :)
Boys in skirts is the best thing in the world after chocolate au lait.
New page, new picture.

This isn't a skirt, but I think it fits the brief of a guy in traditionally girly clothes; the Hailstorm set is obviously directly based on Shiva's hyper-feminine style and features frills, a gigantic silver nipple-star, a tiara, sheer fabric, tight pants plus boots with kitten heels. I didn't like this set much when I first got it piece by piece because nothing matched anything else I wore at the time, but as a complete set it's ok. Those with stockier characters may strongly disagree.
Of course, with my character's skinny frame and hollow cheeks there's the secondary interpretation of him trying to look like a washed up 70s glam rocker, which I'm also ok with in a different way.
Aw I wish I could join in the glamour fun but I only just fantasia'd to a femroe the other day. Though my character looked much like Serilda's anyway - so lovely to see another blue dusky around. <3
Hurrah, Duskwight solidarity!
Your femroe is more than welcome to join in the fun. So long as you have some clothes to wear and support the cause (which I presume you do from the tone of your post), her gender is no barrier! You can show us what we're missing out on ;)
Thanks. ^^ I actually fantasia back and forth a lot but I always keep coming back to my dusky. I consider him my "main" if you will.
Here's a screenshot I found of my old bikini tank glamour (taken during an Alexander time freeze). I thought it might be sufficiently (in)appropriate. :D

With all the dress a man can wear IG i'm confused with this fuss.
You've been bringing this up a lot this topic. As I said, there's only one skirt that's not job-specific to wear. Two if you count the uraeus skirt. At least, that's last I checked...
But if there's that many, could you give me a list? It'd help me decide glamour. Thank you in advance.

It's just a bunch of them I'm too lazy to go through all the in game dresses.
But... everything you listed is a robe.
A robe is not a dress. Or a skirt.
