It's no less tedious than old diadem but now you have to move around and can end up with fates ending too soon etc, and all the gear is personal potd-style trade-ins now so you can't lot on things based on your job, or benefit from organize a party of people seeking different loot. Fates are just killing mobs which we were doing already without having to jump around every few minutes.
And if you don't have a group with a decisive leader you end up with half the party deciding one fate is closer/more time left than another and not getting much done as a result.
It's like SE heard that people wanted to not stay in the same spot mindlessly killing, and focused more on "moving around mindlessly killing" instead of what should have happened; "moving around accomplishing different kinds of things". And old diadem had buried coffers which could get you loot and even spawn bosses if you were dilligent enough (or at least contribute to popping tracks), and that's also gone.
