I don't think anyone minds there being minions in PVP (there is already 2) I think the object is that there will be 2 minions restricted to less than 120 people.

at least they haven't ruined my orchestrion collection yet
They don't run out of preorders cause they want as many people possible to get the game. I never saw the site out of preorders when they were doing this for the expansion. There is no comparison to 10 minions vs nearly unlimited preorders.
These are both time limited promotions only 1 did not have a limit on how many were available the pvp one only 10 people can get. Makes it so collectors can't easily get them.
As a low-g collector, I am cool with this. :)
Do not get me wrong, I understand the frustration of not being able to obtain exclusive minions. (Looking at you pesky Dalamud and Bahamut minions) I am just the only one, along with a few others on this board, to admit it is pretty sweet to be a special snow flake with a limited fancy minion. I love special snow flake status. In fact, I love seeing the PVP mounts and I don't PVP. Let them PVP hustlers be special snow flakes.
If there is a SE riot on this limited PVP minion, here are a few solutions.
1. Place PVP minion in POD - Floor 300 or drop
2. Place minion in Aqua - 100 floors, I do not care
3. Craft in 4.0
4. With the end of veteran awards, maybe make it like 3 years of daily logins to obtain. LOL
5. .000000000000001% drop during PVP 8 months after season
These are just a few suggestions. I think all of the above gives special snow flake status to PVPers and helps minion collectors. :)
YAY!
Hire me SE :)
The whole pvp reward structure is messed up.
Instead of rewarding by top positions, it should reward by rank progression. That way PvPers would still have to work towards the higher platinum and diamond ranks for the top rewards, but instead of being limited to 1, 10 or 100 players, it would be aviable for everyone in said rank, making the rewards much more significative for a much largers audience and probably, will mean a greater and more stable influx of players into PvP.
Right now this just encourages a basic influx due to hype about mounts and minions. After a few weeks, at best a month, PvP will be back at normal.
I really don't understand SE obsession with making rewards super exclusive and limited, instead of encouraging participation is just making the exact opposite.
Well, what can I say, you can't just get everything by buying every piece of merchandise out there. The whole thing about "collecting" is the actual challenge, and adding this to your list should not be a problem if you really want it.
I actually like this, it deters the whales from flooding the game and making it a cash shop dump. I'm already feeling a bit irritated with the wide array of stuff that SE sells there but not available through playing the game.
This is horrible news. It makes me sad to see fellow gamers inexplicably pass away for no reason. I'll get as many players as I can on my server, so we can remember them together. My FC will light candles outside our house. Rest in peace, Minion Collectors, rest in peace... :(
The problem is that that doesn't even help. Plenty of people would be willing to PvP for rewards they want, even if PvP isn't normally a part of the game they'd be interested in. If SE wanted to use these to encourage PvP, they could have made them available for Wolf Marks or something. The problem here isn't the activity, it's the limit. If they were available for Wolf Marks, we'd have to PvP to get them, but whoever was willing to put in the necessary effort at that could get them. With a limit of only a few per data center, that's not the case.
Be good and get in the top 10?
Use this as an excuse to start saving time and money. Now that you can never have 100% of all minions, you no longer have to feel pressured to spend $90 on streams you won't watch just to get three minions. You don't need to buy soundtracks and plushes and books just to keep your collection up to date. Any physical item or Mog Station item SE releases from now on, you only have to buy it if you really want the item itself. You're free!
And? I don't see the big deal, there are already event minions, mog station minions, special addition minions gained through purchasing physical merch, why would this be such a big deal?
Doesn't matter how gud you git - if there's more than ten hardcore collectors, they could all completely dominate PvP and some of them would STILL fail to complete their collection. Ten is a very, very small number.
If attempting to obtain a full collection of minions is to be considered a valid pastime in this game, SE has now officially shut it down.
MMOs are nice because there's ALL KINDS of ways you can choose to play them, if you want to. It's always sad to see one of those avenues disappear. I don't collect minions myself (at least, not hardcore), but I'm sympathetic to the OP and his plight.
Because some people actually have all of those minions, and effectively have no chance of getting the new ones. I imagine those people are kind of annoyed at how much they spent to keep their minion collection complete, only to have that option taken away without warning. I'm just glad I stopped trying a while back so I'm not in the same boat.
While this may be disheartening for people who don't PVP since they don't like it, aren't good at it etc. I also understand that the extreme limit on the items given out is another part that makes people give up before trying.
I looked at Season 1 results, the average matches played for 1-10 was about 560 for single queue and 230 for party queue. About 790 matches. The results for 21-30 were about 320 for single queue and 120 for party queue, about 440 matches total. However, there were people in season 1 and 2 with 500+ matches that did not make the top 30. It is not impossible to reach the top 10 and stay there it will take some effort.
On the flip side...
To the people who are good at PVP and The Feast, be careful how much you gloat. There will probably be a large influx of people who are not good at your favorite game mode and can quite frankly, ruin YOUR ability to proceed as well. Yes, you could build up a lead and sit on it, but if people really want these rewards, you may have to return and defend your spot on the leaderboard and lose it. I wouldn't gloat too much.
In the end, I think there will be tons of salt all over from both groups, PVPers and non PVPers, especially for solo queue. Be careful how much salt you rub into the wounds of others, you may get some in yours too.
Speaking as someone who doesn't PVP, what is wrong with SE encouraging people to do it with exclusives?
Cause SE have been know to not do exclusive stuff, oh you missed that season event that ok we will just throw it on the mogshop for you to buy it or new players demand that they get items from before they started playing and SE caves by bringing it back to the game or throwing them in the mogshop as said earlier but now they want to be "oh only limited very exclusive rewards for doing this content" and on top of that from what I have read even if you do PVP only the best of the best will get it.
They have a few exclusives now. They haven't budged on legacy rewards and I'm hoping they don't budge on this. There should be a few things in the game that are limited and special. Sure, don't do it with everything, but a few things? Why not?
There is zero chance of getting this if you don't compete in the feast. Yes, it's very limited, but you can't get it if you don't compete.
I feel like we're constantly re-treading ground, but in short, these are too exclusive. If you are not already a top-ranked PvPer, the chances you'll make it into the top 10 (in two different ranking pools!) are essentially zero. This isn't a "get good" or "try harder" scenario, this is a "you may legitimately be the best PvPer in the game and still miss this due to random chance" scenario. Casual players know they have no chance, so there is no upside to this reward because it may as well not exist. But there is a downside (see: the original post).
Well pvp never worked out great on this game, probably the reason they are now adding minions and mounts to it. People are more invested or happier to just give it a try than prior. However it's not true that casual players can't get the items, I'm not sure if you have run pvp lately but I find myself often enough in groups with just casual people or win traders or people that just afk it fully. I don't think I've met a "good/best" pvp'er at least not on this game, not to mention that ffxiv isn't made for pvp compared to actual games that have a huge pvp popularity. I would just say, give it a try, if you score great if not at least you tried and with more people queue'ing it might even go quicker.
Fair enough. It's piss-poor in that regard.
That said, I still really don't care if exclusives, even hyper exclusives, exist. Most vanity items are obtainable in this game by grinding or just waiting until the content is facerollable. If a few things exist that I can't get, that's not that big of a deal.
A community team response to this topic would be pretty fantastic. I'd love to hear what the dev team was thinking here with two variants of each and the ranking requirements.
Honestly, the minion needs to be a participation reward for playing X number of ranked games in the season. I think that would be a lot more appropriate. The mount being a top reward is "kind of" okay with me, but the minion is just way too exclusive.
A compromise would be great maybe add them as an ultra rare drop from the accursed horde?, not anytime soon of course but later down the line so those who have no chance at getting this minion have at least a small chance now.
Just because you haven't met them doesn't mean there aren't at least 10 of them on your data center. Note, not server, data center. And this isn't a reward from a one-time thing, this is an overall ranking. You aren't going to luck into it.
This will get more people to do PvP, but only people who are overconfident and/or terrible at math. If they want an incentive, they need to make it achievable. This isn't.
I still remember when WoW first introduced Arena, with a mount being rewarded to only the best teams for the season. The gladiator flying mounts were badass looking at the time. They even had an inherent benefit with being the fastest mounts in the game, where the only alternative was Ashes of Al'ar (an extremely rare raid mount).
Sad that we went from prestige, commitment, and (mild) respect to the top teams that earned it (and proved they're probably better than you at PvP in the game) to outright appall that there's a collectable reward that is actually being treated as "limited" or "exclusive". Win trading is certainly a reason to hate on the idea, but that's on SE to monitor the rankings.
Does anyone know what the pet will look like? a wolf maybe? Not the one that's in game but more realistic wolf. kinda like the hunting hawk.

You would have thought they would have learned from the non existant PVP lines at fan fest. No one wanted to do PVP. They were begging for players. Adding one time rewards to it is only going piss people off, case in point.
So if you don't care about content, that means anyone who does has a mental disorder?
That incredibly offensive comment aside, consider that SE adds minions to cash purchases as an incentive. They didn't give people a Rikku minion for buying their live stream because they just thought it would be fun. They've been openly catering to a certain crowd, and this goes directly against that. It seems perfectly reasonable for people to be upset.
They've also done the same in the past about exclusivity in non-cash shop means. 1.0 rewards, for example, are not available to the grand majority of players now. This is not just referring to the mounts, but also to the CE and XI sub rewards too. The fact we could also keep 1.0 items/equips is part of that as well.
It is actually a question of mental disorder for some. Obsession and denial is very real with today's youth (and even adults). Most people are okay, and while the person you quoted is labeling a bit too broadly, I'd argue it is applicable to some in this game. The mere fact that people today can't accept the idea that exclusive rewards can exist within game content, is evidence enough that there is a borderline case of obsession coming into play (most likely not clinical levels though).
It's reasonable to be upset, especially since we get upset about the dumbest things in general both in games and IRL, but that doesn't excuse the ignorance or idiocy of the matter.
There are people that never played season 1 and only barely played season 2 of the feast that made it into the top 30 or even top 10 (less than 200 games in a season).
Seriously not even trying because you think you can't do it is the worst kind of excuse.
