OMG so much cryes and complains. Just deal with it or leave the game! LoL
we have new gear, new dungeons, etc
Really guys what else you expect? Please show me a mmorpg that havent dissapointed you once, that always put your expectations high and more.
Really im so done with this. This content good, very good indeed. It really feels that some of you want the imposible.
Just beacuse is still called "expert/60 roullete" doesnt mean that is the very same. We have a new tomestone, new gear with a very different look ( eikonic was awfull but this omg, the new one really looks good ) and a new dungeons ( that means different looks, enemies, patch, bosses, mechanics, etc )
To short the answer, is no, i really dont.
I havent seen the new gear, does it look that good?

Don't even know if these are crafted or dungeon drops though.
I agree.
It is not a good thing when everyone knows what is coming and when. I personally do not like that for the most part, 3.x has been rinse and repeat of 2.x. Sadly, it is looking more and more likely, that for endgame, 4.x will be rinse and repeat again.
I want to be excited when I see patch announcements. I really do. They should be like presents, something to look forward to and a good surprise. Our patches?
Is it an even patch or an odd patch?
Even patch! It will be New Tomestones, new raid tier, 2 "new" "Expert" dungeons, a significant ilvl increase that surpasses even the upgraded Tomestone gear and old raid gear.
(New and expert are in quotes since they aren't always really new and they damn sure aren't of any kind of difficulty.)
Odd patch, upgrade items added to hunts, 24 man dungeon and 2 "new" "Expert" dungeons.
Once in a while, they add in something else that does not add to the endgame experience.
It has been this way for 3 years and most likely, will for at least 3 more. That will be 6 years of basically the same damn thing.
Some people talk about how "terrible" FFXIV 1.0 and XI were and how it would make someone want to uninstall. Even they didn't pull that!
ah, the ol "this is how we get people to keep subbing" limit cap
Honestly, other MMOs do this too...WoW (i think) was the first to impose limited caps on weekly end game armor
If only they changed the design just a little bit...
Tank gear always look more PLD than WAR/DRK.
Healer gear always look like a dress/robe/full cover.
Ninja looking edgy as usual and MNK never quite looks like a monk.
I like the caster gear, at least this time it isn't healer gear recolored to black. :(
I hope we could use new tomes to buy relic stuff or even craft materials in future, i only play tank(s) and NiN so after those are done i have absolutely no use for weekly capped tomes.
I don't think WoW was the first to implement time gating in progression. Currency caps are really nothing effectively different from raid lockouts or respawn timers for world bosses - they all serve only to throttle the amount of gear you can attain in a given time period. This and RNG are pretty much the cornerstones of MMO gearing, I have a hard time believing the idea didn't pop up before WoW.
I just can't make myself grind out another set of gear....
OP, you forgot a "Brace yourself, a tomestone will go away" picture
At the end, the amount of tomestones will not change. There will be not more or less tomestones in 3.4 than in 3.3
I doubt anyone needs to brace themself for a tombstone leaving though... if anything they wouldnt care. One less grindy thing to worry about.
They are introducing 250 level craft able fully mendable gear from what I understand. How is that the same stuff? One doesn't have to do tomes if they don't want to. I know personally i have fully meldable 220 gear currently and didn't fully gear my roles in Lore, I used it more for alt roles than my main. Seems people what things to change and they have made changes, I just think people don't want to see it.
And what exactly would you like? Another horizontal change the entire system solution? It's not going to happen. They are introducing new options to the gear scene and it's a good thing in my view. I was told although I haven't seen it in writing that the new tome gear will also be over mendable as well allowing for more customizable stats. If anyone can confirm this it would be appreciated.
Well, we've had crafted fully meld able gearsets in the past. I remember wearing some crafted i110 gear when poetic gear (i120-130 upgraded) dropped, and I expect this to be similar with the raid/upgraded tome gear sitting at i270.
It'll be nice to have the crafted gear to begin with instead of trying to farm NM Alex for drops before jumping into savage, and it'll be useful for gearing up alt classes. Otherwise, though, people looking for the highest ilvl will still be chasing savage/tomes for upgrades.
Besides these 3 options i could only think 3 more and those are Dungeon/Diadem and Hunts but all those would be mostlikely huge grind due RNG compared to tome stuff so majority would popably skip these, unless SE plays "dirty" and sprinkles BiS pieces across all 6 options + upgrade items.
In 2.x it was
Viable weapon: tomes, raid, relic, Shiva weapon (? Well, not in the last raid cycle at last)
Viable gear: tomes, raid, crafted
Complaints about gear: Almost nonexistent?!
Now it's:
Viable weapon: Primal, PotD, Tomes, Raid (hard), crafted, relic
Viable gear: Raid (normal), Diadem, Tomes, Raid (hard), crafted
Complaints about gear: A lot.
Primals dropped viable weapons back in the 2.X cycle too. The only new method by which to acquire gear added since 3.0 is the diadem, and it's arguably the most boring content in the game. People are complaining because they're tired of the cycle. Every patch we're just doing the same thing with a different set of textures and names. Other MMOs tend to introduce new things that shake up the routine a bit but we rarely see much like that here in FFXIV. That's why people are getting fed up.
The majority of the people that take no issue with the tomestone grind are the ones that haven't been here doing it since 2.0.
It's the exact same thing they did with 3.2. We had i220 fully meldable crafted gear, and 220 Midan gear. Only new thing is crafted weapons this time around. And it'll be hit and miss if crafted or 250 Sophia weapons will be BiS for any given job until after 7 weeks of Alex NM when most people start getting Scripture Weapons (non-raiders + non-dps raiders).
If anything you could say we're getting a similar but worse deal this time around because crafted ilvls are expected to be 10 ilvls lower than Alex NM. This is probably solely to slow down raid progression, because with the tuned down difficulty this tier, Alex Savage would probably be even less a challenge with full raid teams in full 260 crafteds, completely negating the need to grind Alex NM.
Also if we get fully meldable raid/tome gear.....that again is the community getting a sort of 'shaft'. The added customization will help people who are pushing content that requires specific accuracy/speed values, but anyone not in that niche will actually be under a greater burden than previous tiers as the gear will be STRIPPED of secondary stats in order to balance the materia potential. Also add in losing all that materia when Scripture gear is upgraded, and people are now required to pentameld each piece of gear twice, or just settle for under optimized equipment.
I foresee much settling, and significantly less gearing of alt jobs between now and 4.0
I feel this statement is, for the most part, the most accurate. Doing the exact same thing 3 years on is monotonous no matter how people try to candy coat by saying its good because we get new gear/glamor. Its a means to an end and the means is just completely oversaturated at this point.
When 2.0 lauched the weekly cap was 300, but they changed it pretty shortly on to be 450. Then they added 4 new jobs and guess what! Didn't increase cap, strictly because it was the best gate the devs had to keep people playing. You could argue that those jobs share gear with other roles so it is not a huge impact, but it still is because the combination of which jobs a player chooses may not at all be jobs that overlap gear.
Bottom line is Yoshi knows it has gotten stale a bit which is why he said he is going to change the direction of things in 4.0. However, as he has already stated, he is keeping the raid design the same. He is proving more and more that he is out of touch as to the Western mmo endgame market, and therefore my optimism in the future design decisions is a bit dire at the moment.
So as new player i won't be able to get equip from tometstone éso ? if it's the case i just hate this idea, i want many sets of equip from éso.
i'm not that far in the story to reach them and i don't understand why it's totally removed, poetics are way older and i was able to obtain my sets while enjoying the game !
If i'm wrong tell me, cause this news as i understand it leaves me a disgusting taste in mouth :/
Yep, I'v seen in ishgard how to obtain old mémo sets, it's just a pain to gather for old equip... while with poetics it's fast and easy...
They did the same thing with Soldiery. It used to be Soldiery and Poetics at level 50 (And other tomestones before that that got cycled into obscurity) and when the new expansion came, they did away with Soldiery gear and made Poetics all you have at 50.
When 4.0 comes you can garuantee they're going to do the same thing with Lore. Lore will be removed from the game (but the gear will be incorporated into another, different grind) and Scripture tomes will be the only thing to get at level 60.
Then we'll cycle through four different tomestones at the end of 4.0, ending it with just one tomestone type.
And so, the cycle will continue for as long as the game does. Feeling the burn from that treadmill yet?
It's too bad we don't live in the world of Orience and get our memory cleared with the beginning of a new cycle in this endless spiral
