While competing can be exciting at times, it doesn't really serve a justifiable place in a non-PvP game.
Cooperating is soooooo much more efficient and proves that there are still decent people on the internet.

Yeah if it's just camping some mobs, my friends and I wont care if someone strolls up, or if we see someone camping an area we want. We just stroll along or something. Unless its a damn quest area. I had a quest where I had to kill the floating eye things in Nanawa Mines... Like huge camp just wiping everything every time - guess I cant finish that! haha. We went in to kill a few and proceeded to be made fun of. haha.
And NMs... We were doing the Ifrit Bleeds quest where you have to kill the NMs. This dude killed Nest Commander like 10 times as we all watched. After the 10th we figured we would just spam emote him until he got the message. I think it finally clicked and he laughed and ran away.
I can see some people getting pissed at some of the things I've encountered, but it's a game, just laugh at it!
Ignoring everyone responses before I post: It goes with the territory!
_If you can't handle camping over or being camped over, I guess you suck in real life too.
_The development team can provide a big enough world with as much locations to camp but will not be able to serve everyone's needs and wants.
_It's part of the fun because you actually interacting with the game, if not just the game... well, with other players. Laugh and have a good time being frustrated or annoyed. =P
You said it yourself and I hope people can relate: You felt excitement, filled with adventure and a sense of being the best (or worse jerk). That's what FFXIV should inspire the most, the feeling of LIFE.
This game needs more drama
Camping on other people.
Dont do it.
Nobody owns any "camp" or "mob" so have fun take what you can.
Don't be a douche: earn friends and respect.
Be a douche: quickly become blacklisted by your server.
Simple.
never camp over others, and if I have to kill something anyone is killing/leveling of off, and I came a ways for...like a quest, I'd shoot them a /tell and apologize in advance.
Depends on the mob.
Big/mini NMs? hell ya competition.
Smaller things? Its still competition but i would think it better to be considerate to leave them alone.
Also gotta keep in mind that if its a crowded place and pple see you afk, then it kinda becomes free for all (aka you dont own the area cause you stand there afk) Basically you really gotta confirm if it was intentional at the start. If either jump to conclusions it becomes a mess of he said/did she said/did. Although in the end, the reality, being the popularity of the item and the population of the server, might not let everyone who wants it, to 'stand in line' for their turn =( Such circumstances are hard considering the nature of MMORPGs.
With that said, two wrongs dont make a right. MPKing them in return probably might be something less condoned than competitive camping. ^^ That is something that actually can be avoided given any circumstance.
You guys have a habit of bringing things up after they've supposedly been settled... Anyway, I do in some situations MPK people if I can, and it's a skill that I practice the same way that I practice out-camping and soloing. That's no secret. If you want to talk about it any more let's just keep it in-game.
double post
"If you need to act like a jerk in some video game just to feel alive you should take a look at the way you are living your life."
I don't know who you are my response was to the person I quoted. I don't think I've ever seen you on Selbina.
After some intensive research I found out you are referring to one of our off night pick up parties in strongholds where you valiantly MPK'd a group of our members spirit binding for no reason over some no-one-cares-about camp.
Pretty pathetic attempt at drama if you ask me. So this whole thread was obviously troll bait (which I had no idea when I posted on it originally, and seeing as how no one in our LS actually mentioned this specific incident that should be a good clue how much we care). My responses up to this point were not in that context, I just assumed you were asking for people's opinion on the topic of camp stealing. I gave you mine which is that nothing really in the game has been worth competing over since the old NM's.
You guys should stick to making copy linkshells of our LS. This level of drama stirring I think is beyond your abilities.
Some players can be opportunistic pricks. The key to this scenario? Whack the mobs or have a Lancer use Heavy Trammel to claim all the mobs before those other bastards can get their hands on them. It works for me, usually.
@Murugen.
Just 2 things.
1. This wasn't posted for trolling. Nothing was posted to *bait in* your LS in any way.
2. I really like how you ignored the 'please keep it in-game'.
Good job, bro.
Also, my general ideam about outcamping depends on the people.
I am, for the most part, very against it. However, if the people in the party have previously exercised their right to compete (i.e, tried to outcamp me before), I have no problem taking claim on their mobs. That being said, its difficult to go against the plan of the party leader / majority. If they go in, I have to as well.
I do believe most of the problems between claim on a set of monsters can be taken care of if the two parties work out a system or explain what they're doing.
Keep what in game? There is nothing to discuss other than this thread which was apparently made after Agate here "practiced MPK'ing" on a group with some of our members. If you are trying to pretend that there is some kind of drama between our linkshells over it you are blowing it way out of proportion.
This has nothing to do with our linkshell I was responding to his baiting that "we bring things up after they have been settled" while in the same post saying "Anyway, I do in some situations MPK people if I can, and it's a skill that I practice the same way that I practice out-camping and soloing."
Except no one brought up anything up about the incident except him, he posted a topic and we responded totally unrelated. I don't even know if Akk or Deceptistar were in that group on Monday. I wasn't, and I didn't even know about it until I asked after seeing his latest post. So in retrospect this whole thread seems like a pretty clear example of baiting to me.
He posted the OP, and lay in wait for one of our people to respond. Then jumped all over them. First at me when I was clearly not quoting him, that failed (was a pretty wide shot too since I actually quoted the person I was responding to, just drips of desperation for some drama).
So then he went after deceptistar's completely reasonable and absolutely non-dramatic post which again had nothing to do with Monday's incident and was just responding to the topic of this thread.
Other than that purpose of this thread, I guess it is just to let everyone know that Agate might feel like "practicing his MPK skills" on them. That's cool, still doesn't involve our LS.
I got one for you: Please keep it out of game. I didn't know either of you two were on my server until this thread, and I thought I knew quite a few people. I obviously have no personal beef with either you of not knowing that we were on a server together. I don't want this garbage bothering me while I'm trying to play and enjoy the game. He/you wants to play at drama do it on the forums by all means.
Agate likes to "practice his MPK'ing skills" in random situations, and posted this to bait our members then tried to manufacture drama as if there were some big incident where in he "totally MPK'd the crap out of us" lol.
So I'm gonna have to disagree, I think it is pretty clear this was a bait thread, and again this is a pretty pathetic attempt at manufacturing drama as drama goes.
145% of people in this thread will ragerage if someone camps on top of them. My math is flawless. Don't judge.
@ Mewnoa - Thanks but stay out of it.
@ Murugan - Check the post times, this thread was actually made before the incident with your LS members. This thread was made in response to a very exciting day, not anything else. And of course I know when Triple Spark jumps in and starts mentioning MPK when it wasn't even a topic it was directed at me. Not to mention in the end we raised that party and saved them from a wipe.
Wow some people are incredibly pathetic.
Do the world a favor and take a long walk off a short peer, OP.
I think you are a little full of yourself. I didn't even notice about the "incident" until I mentioned this thread, and MPK was mentioned quite a few times in this thread so I doubt decep was referring to you. No matter how much you want to believe that you "ruffle our feathers" or whatever.
The only thing I got out of this thread is that you:
and
Which makes you sound kinda pathetic. But you aren't in our LS you can play however you want to. If you want to gain a reputation as the best jerk on the server, who has mastered the skill at trying to piss people off go right ahead.
It's my experience that doesn't work out that great in the end. I'll just reiterate what the rest of people in our LS said, competition has its place in PvE endgame. However being a jerk needlessly is well... kinda pointless. We don't make it a habit to camp steal, MPK, or be dicks to other linkshells or groups. If you'd like to be a "nemesis" who shrugs off notions of common decencies at least we know when you come running at us with a group of mobs what your intentions are.
"I'm not going to misconstrue what you said through quotes." *Proceeds to do exactly that." That's cool.
Because generally a decent camp supports 1 party for EXP worth the time spent. If another party insists on fighting for enemies, there's downtime, not enough enemies to supplied for both teams, and neither party is really productive. It's completely ignorant to ignore this fact.
There are also two types of players. Ignoring the shades of gray and focusing on the extremes, some players try to be courteous, others don't give a ****. Either player type is fine, i'm just telling you that because of the explanation above, it's generally common courtesy to seek another camp when one is taken.
Worth it for whom? The player who prefers to compete in a game or the player who prefers not to compete in a game?
Sorry, but "worth" is subjective and not a concrete reason for "xp" not being ok for competition in a game.
For example: Two players are competing for an NM. It may take hours for one of the players to actually out-claim the other player and then finally get the RNG drop.
Those same two players are competing for XP. It may take hours for one of the players to actually out-claim the other player and then finally get some XP.
MPK'ing is for the desperate and underskilled, in my honest opinion. There's better ways to show superiority than being a pest.
If someone tries to take over your camp, do what I do. Go MRD and destroy everything until they leave.
If you're trying to take over someone's exp camp, then you are what's wrong with the playerbase. There's no excuse to do it, regardless of whether you feel that it's justified.
I've had a tell, a lodestone comment, and a thread comment from you. I'll post something in here so the most people can see. ^^
I first started MPKing when JP groups consistently outcamped me in areas I had occupied first. I was frustrated because I thought there was nothing I could do against their superior connections. Then I became a much better camper, and I stopped MPKing for that reason, I simply outcamped people. Now I typically only MPK people in response to them trying it on me. I have never thought it to be a particularly "right" thing to do, it's just what I do. It takes as much practice as anything else since you can easily die trying. I do not MPK people to be a pest or show superiority. It's not as exciting as you make it out to be, but that's how it is. I hope this clears some things up, and anyone who still gives me a hard time is probably just doing it on purpose. ^^
If the camp can support more than one party, I'd say it's fine. I'd say that if they party currently there can take up 7/10 mobs before repops, what's the point in staying anyway? If you can virtually clear a whole area before the majority respawn, you need a new challenge anyhow.
Coming in on top of soloers is iffy. I tend to take up a whole group of mobs at a site when on DoM, and I'll admit that I don't like it one bit when a group comes in on top of me (or even another soloer for that matter). But, I suppose in the end the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
Intruding on top of PL groups? All day long! :D
I didn't mean it to look like slander, it's only what I got out of what the OP stated. Most ppl enjoy acting like jerks online while IRL they're normal. Beats me... evil has its way with most of humanity. I SOMETIMES act infantile while connecting with others in-game but the fun is gaining the interest of everyone and getting interested in everyone.
It's the opportunity to exercise good manners and ethics. What I typed was just a slight interpretation I was meaning to correct but took too tooo long doing it. I was hoping people would've got it w/o going so far.
No problem PSxpert, miss-communication seems to be common here. I probably could have written my whole original post better. But yeah, this game is pretty fun and dynamic, seems like something new every day despite seemingly the same situation. XD
