At this rate it'll take ages for me to 200-210 my relic.

As the people said here, don't rush step 3 is a grind fest. Just alternate between beast tribes, dailies,hunts, Alex/CT and you will be done in no time. I completed my relic already and not going after second one... Too much trouble to go through for step 3...

I'm almost done with my 3rd set of items, and I haven't really been grinding them. A friend and I have been getting them through our normal daily playing, its not overly awful.

I'm not even sweating 3.x relics until they nerf this step way down, because this one quest is utterly ridiculous for what it gives you.

I really don't understand why anyone would complain on how long it takes.

You're given the option of getting a high tier weapon without having to raid. Do you have any idea how much time and effort raiders put into achieving end-game goals? All you have to do are a few dungeons a bunch of times which requires nowhere near the commitment, effort and skill raiding does to get a weapon equal to what the raiding scene strives for.

Think of this as just another way of earning something, this one through time and effort as opposed to skill, time and effort raiding requires.

(Ranged values are due to depending which instance you get, for the below calculation, I used the middle value)

So that gives you ~771 esoterics and 180 poetics per day. That takes ~18 days for esoterics, and 77 days for Poetics.

That said, there are many many other ways to get your pieces and tomestones. Hunts and Beast Tribes are great ways to do this.

If you try to binge it, you're probably gonna have a bad time unless your grind tolerance is high.

I would do roulettes daily and leave it at that, and buy items using the eso and roulette tomes you get while capping lore.
Beast tribes I would wait 2 weeks they are gonna buff the rep gains unless you have them all at max rank already then do them every day. Really fast way to get items if you do 4 sets of them every day for very little effort. Pretty much kill mobs in seconds, click on some stuff, only crap part is some of the FATEs but most of them spawn pretty quickly.

The real sticking point is really the crafted items if you don't have any gil but you can sell the materia from beast tribes or the weekly V from void ark to buy them if you need to.

Depending on the next relic step and how grindy it is there will be more people playing grinding the new step.

People who raid and are highly skill are capable of getting the best weapon within a few weeks and Casual who do the Tomes can get Lore Weapons in 7 weeks.

It took me since December to May to finally get the NIN Relic Weapon for my main and it's such a "weak" weapon compared to its Raid and Lore counterparts which is why I continue to use the Lore and glamoured over it with my i230 Relic. It's a longer grind than most weapons in this game for a lot of people and some of the Relic are NOT on par on the Raid weapons. I recall Yoshi-P saying that Relics will NEVER be as good as Raid Weapons after the Zenith Weapon during Coil and thus the Relic was weaken and then only at the end of it's questline does it match or be superior to the Raid Weapon.

Then you got the Crafting items on top of it as well. Some people don't like to craft and some of the items are gated behind Diadem which in the Primal server I hardly see more than 3 other people queing for it randomly and I can't get any with PF.

I do everything and it still feels too much for one step even though I did take it nice and slow to do it. I don't plan on doing another HW Relic until this step is nerf to a more reasonable level, though I continue to do the BT Quests to earn some of the tokens for the future and I finally got all my Crafting classes to 60 so I can make the items myself (but I need to get the gear to make them too) when the time comes.

I'm amazed some people have gotten 3 or 4 or more HW Relics to i230 and it's an impressive feat, but how many people compared to the ones who have done and/or gotten one HQ Relic at least did it again or how long did it take them? It varies from people to people, but I only see like less than 20 people on the forums here with more than one Relic.

I'm just saying that some weapons are more "instant" to get than the Relics which I find humorous that people think the Relic is instant gratitude which it's not. Some people tolerable the grind, I barely did and do not wish to do it again. This was hardly a fun step to do. I did skip the Crystal part with my Zeta and I enjoy doing the 10 dungeons, those were fun, and doing CT again which nice for the Oils though I did it three times and bought the other two Oil with my tomes.

Well I have a very time consuming job and on top of me working on trying to get all my classes to 60 so another factor why it took longer for me, but still I feel burnt out with doing the step even when I had a lot of free time. More power to people who don't mind and have gotten more than one HW Relic, but there's a good portion of us that didn't enjoy this particular step too much when it relies on a lot of factor and people who have free time to help you as well with the same content.

I finished mine awhile ago was it fun? No, it's not the grind I have an issue with it's the design and how they did it. We had ALL of HW that we could have been doing to get the relic weapon but instead they give it to us much later down the road and then the next step is just 5 weeks of LoTA/ST/WoD or grind the Esos (which you could do in a day tbh) the issue is it's one extreme to another. Some tips I can give for the grind is if you're doing Alex Gordias:

- Do only floors 1 and 4, 2 and 3 are not worth it as they're the longest
- Poetics and allied seals are your friends here they are probably the most precious resource out of the whole grind
-Beast Tribe dailies are optional but they help with the grind by switching it up don't neglect them!

I know this is off topic but the next relic grind i'm dreading as well since it's basically Alexandrite 3.3 why don't the developers see that this is just tedious and boring? Why couldn't they tie it in with Palace of the Dead? Or the new Map Dungeons? Surely i'm not the only one who sees the relic is more about how much gil we can shove down our throats with 500+ hours attached. It's kind of sad.

Yeah this shouldn't take forever, should just take two or three months.

The good news is that once you get caught up, it's easy to stay current. Most people I know in game have had no problems getting a relic. But, most people I know also only go through this process once.

The relic step isn't overly long, IMHO. I only just started grinding for a second and third relic a week ago and I already have a little under half the pieces I need for the second relic, and that's just doing my daily routine. It's really not that difficult of a step unless you let it drive you to distraction! You'll get there OP, chin up! o/ Course, I might just be a nut, since I was actually hoping the i210 step would be harder.

I just finished my 4th. My alt has 20/20/14/12 and 6 oils. Going to wait and see how complex the next step is before deciding if I wanna go there. I got her items just doing regular roulettes and the like over the period of time since relic released and S ranks when I could grab them.

On the bright side, I'm queueing up very often now at this time, so it's really about doing other things in morning such as crafting or gathering...or maybe the last two dungeons (those are a bit more active) but that's it. Stop with the "Relic is a Glamour item" because that's bullshit, and on 3.3 you can even customize the weapon stats. DRK one for example, is Critical and Determination CAPPED both, that's better than any other weapon, aside 245 from Midas Savage (and I still think thet probably relic 240 is better than this one in DRK case). If you don't like the grind, it is ok, there are another ways to obtain weapons easily on game, but do not missprize the relic only because you don't like it. Trying to justify how much hate the grind by saying that he weapon is shit is completely wrong. With hte 3.3 step, the "seconday stats sucks" doesn't matter anymore. And probably will make them the best weapon in end game, rivalizing with Savage ones.

You need time, of course, but that doesn't make the weapon a shit.

Bullshit, I'd rather have the freedom to do what I want than just come in everyday cause I HAVE to, but rather that I WANT to. These stupid restrictions drive me mad.

Everyone knocks it but depending on map prices and material prices, wyvernskin and archaeoskin maps aren't incredibly terrible if you have a decent starting bankroll. I was able to get a fair number of my shells and ores out of treasure maps and I actually ended up making about 500k gil by the end of it. I would frequently by any and all wyvernskin maps up to about 35k each and tried to do around 10 maps per day after I completed beast tribes and roulettes. It was much much more difficult to profit from Archaeoskin maps than it was from Wyvernskin, though.

Let me trade 1 Aether Oil for 10 unidentified tokens of a type of my choosing please :).

Well, the 230 Anima has his statsa capped, cause they haven't materia slots. So, both stats are maximized, making them better than lore one at the same level. I guess, they will continue having stats capped on the next step even if you can customize them.

The issue with this again is "then why bother raiding?" You can't customize a raid weapon. And it takes far more effort and skill to get. Sometimes more time too. Or is that to say people who don't raid or don't seek a challenge are entitled to weapons better than raid weapons? This was, several times, an issue in the past. And with the current state of raiding, they really can't afford that kind of imbalance.

In the case of the MCH relic, I was giving it a fair chance (never got a Zeta, stopped caring at Animus books) but the UI step really just gave me the ok to drag my feet on it. All that work for a weapon with stats that weren't so great for me? Nah. I was good enough to get a Thordan gun, and that had better stats. Got the Lore gun now too, again, better stats. So really, other than just finishing what I started for the sake of doing so, why bother? Custom stats? I'm just gonna put on it what the Lore gun already has, so again, where's the point where I should really task myself with such a tedious quest?

Of course, mileage may vary per person/job, and everyone's got a reason they do/don't want a relic. But this second time around, on a different job, yet practically doing the SAME GRIND I hated before, I'm really ready to just wash my hands of relics for good. If I ever do complete this, it WILL be the first and last. I can't say it enough: SE had a chance to do something different. BETTER. But they opted to simply repeat past steps with absurd numbers. Even Tome weapons are starting to get unreasonable. Grinding current content a set number of times for a current weapon, only to later be forced to grind it AGAIN either for upgrades, or for the relic; the relic itself becoming a catalyst for reviving old, dead content (that likely died cause we got tired of grinding it). Come on, SE. You're killing content faster, not reviving it or maintaining a bottom line.

As for the relic, if you make it a tedious grind for a sub-raid weapon with terrible stats (even if you can at some point customize them) many might not bother, or opt out before getting there. And if you make it better than raid weapons, then why bother raiding? Don't. Do. This.

I really wouldn't care if they did make a weapon someone could grind for that is just slightly under the power level of the current patch weapon, like say a Midan level gladiator sword. But I'd want that journey to be something that is reasonable for a person to do, enjoyable to get, and feel like it was time well spent. The Relic quest is none of those things. Also, if someone is raiding savage purely for gear they are not doing savage for the right reasons.

I just dont like being too poor to complete the grind. Or the 3 days I just spent in Forelands for dem crystals. Or having to split esto between the items or gear for the latest class i just leveled.

Not to mention they don't even make the crystals quest items. We have to have them sitting in our inventory until we finally get to turn them in. Honestly, end game in Final Fantasy XIV ARR is just depressing as all they do is make you grind repeatedly or wipe repeatedly, often along with the effort of having to somehow keep a group of people interested enough to finish content properly. The gear boost just doesn't justify the time spent having to do it.

That's another issue entirely. Someone said it in a different thread that raiding is a gil sink. I used to LOVE to raid pre-Heavensward (work doesn't allow me the time for it anymore, sadly), but with only 2 crafting jobs leveled at that time, I didn't make much gil at all. That was a largely discouraging factor when I saw the Novus step (I'd already really just been losing interest with Animus, but Novus was the complete buzzkill).

I get that crafting needs to be kept relevant to some degree (and it already largely is anyways), but forcing it into a questline designed to award a BATTLE CONTENT ITEM, is only rewarding to either someone who alone crafts, or the player that does both. If you simply prefer battle content (or rather dislike DoH content), this really puts the screws to you.

Side Note of Relevance: The initial part of the original relic quest was great. I had to go exploring (then) dangerous territory to find it, then take on some fearsome (but not impossible) creatures to gain items to restore it. Then I got to break it in. THEN I had to take on bigger (and STILL not impossible) challenges to fully empower and complete the weapon. . . THAT felt good. THAT felt worthwhile. THAT felt like a Final Fantasy-style weapon quest. Instilling an uninspired grind-for-the-sake-of-a-grind just dumped all over that and completely devalued that relic. Looking back, I won't remember farming fates for crystals or buying overpriced materia, or running content ad nauseum for arbitrary numbers of token items to turn in. I WILL remember the exploration, the restoring, and the ADVENTURING that went into creating a relic weapon. Consider this when you create the next relic quest saga, SE.

^ This. I've been "just doing my daily routine" which consists of floor 5-8, all the roulettes and as many beast tribes as I can get with the limited amount they allow you per day. Used all my eso, all my poetics, all my beast tribe tokens.

It's been 3 months ish and I'm only 20/1/4/0 and no crafted items, so theres no way just "doing my daily routine" has gotten enough for 3 sets of items unless your daily routine consists of doing 10+ of every roulette daily, which is grinding.

The problem isn't so much with how long it takes, it's just that in the time it's taken me to get what I have, I could almost have 2 lore weapons, which depending on your job, are better than relic atm. Imo, I'd rather have a relic that's obtained through skill and challenging trials, sort of how they were going with it in 2.0, before it became an unnecessary gil sink. It'd feel more worth it that way once you finally obtained it, especially if it didn't get obsoleted so fast.

Also, the whole "Trade in your zeta to skip part 1, but really only 1/3rd of part 1" (seeing as crystals, dungeons and items all came in a single update, which technically makes them part 1) kind of bugged me. The amount of work you had / still have to do for a single zeta way outweighs the effort/time for crystals. I feel having a fully completed zeta should have either gotten the 210 or at the very least, gotten passed the crystals and dungeons and gave 20-40 of the items. That right there would have been almost about equal to the work and time put into completing a zeta

I like how so many mentioned beast tribes...well many new players have not been able to get all them to the highest rep. And that my friends is one big flaw in this game. Very little catch up abilities for new players. They want all this time and effort to go into this end game relic but then dont realize that every new player is so far behind being able to enjoy any of this.

Even that is too long in a game like this. 2-3 months is about how long it takes for gear in this game to become out of date. People should be able to acquire gear and actually use it while it's still relevant.

A new person will not be ready for endgame the moment they hit cap. Also they NEED to WORK for it just like EVERYONE else. Im so tired of people talking like new players are so helpless and so far behind, PEOPLE NEED GET OVER IT. They will get to endgame and endgame things in time and if they miss this round of something they will get the next CURRENT round when they can.

LOL sorry this part cracks me up. In a time long long ago, before WoW dumbed down the MMO genre, crafters' main purpose was to craft battle armor :P

I really don't understand why people just can't accept the fact that the anima weapon isn't meant for the faint of heart. If you don't like to repeat content, then don't do the relic quest. Go do void ark and get a free tier 5 materia, then you can pat yourself on the back because you got a really good item w/o having to do very much.

This alone is one of the reasons I haven't been logging in much during 3.2. Seriously, to all the people in this thread that actually play the game. If your not raiding, and your not crafting, and your not doing relic..... What exactly ARE you doing when you play? Because the way i see it, there isn't that much to do besides those things.

Which is why it is so important to have ARR beast tribe quest. Those quests sped up my 200-210 phase to where I had that phase done within 4 weeks of playing only 2 hours a day.

I'm almost done with 79/80 but the crafted items are still so darn expensive... Once I finally manage to buy all of the items, I don't know which relic to finish as I had 3 zetas. Yea, I had 3 zetas in the time it took me to farm all of this stuff... crazy eh? So if I upgrade one, and it turns out to be the wrong one, I am screwed. Had this step been considerably easier, I would have no problems just finishing off the other two. As others have mentioned, this step has the feel that it should have been present at release but they noticed that they made mistakes in Gordias so they held it back.

Gordias... this is going to be come legendary as a mistake of mistakes. I'm just waiting for it to be used in mems... "Dude, you really gordiased the heck out of that".

Don't buy the items outright, that's silly. Get the materials yourself and have a crafter make them for you via party finder or something.

Even buying the materials if you don't have a gatherer would save you a lot.

Do the Beast Tribes. Seriously, it's so much easier and less time consuming than Alex. Alex has been a terrible source of the items since 3.2 hit and even before then. I have one finished relic and enough Unidentified items to complete two more (waiting on 3.3 to finish them, because the worst part is the FATE grind) and only got about 5 of my Unidentifieds total from Alex runs.

I would recommend just skipping the FATE quests in the Tribes as well. That should speed up your Beast tribe quests significantly.

I had fun while doing Relic. I actually enjoy playing the game so that's all I did. I played the game normally and ended up with a 210 relic after 2 and a half months. Each day I played the game I had fun doing what I wanted to do.

So, raiding isn't for the faint of heart. The "easier-but-grindier" Relic isn't for the faint of heart. And now literally having to run something seven times (once weekly, assuming not raiding) on top of the old 1000 tome cost (which was gated into a 3 week span already, thanks to caps) also isn't for the faint of heart either? I'm sorry but you really kinda missed the bigger point made before. It's not about doing as little as possible to get something. It IS about having to do it repeatedly for one thing, THEN having to go back and do it AGAIN for the relic (IF you so choose to do it). Or would you say it'd be perfectly fine to just tack on another unidentifiable item step and push people to run Gordias (not Midas, Gordias) again? I DID say they had plenty of opportunity to do something different, and they just simply didn't. Are you saying that's okay?

Helping other people with running things/catching up, leveling other jobs, leveling an alt, PvP - both the Feast and Seal Rock, building up a new FC, spending time with friends, making videos, and enjoying aspects of the game that are fun without a grind. . . What was that about "not for the faint of heart"?

What I have been doing for the relic grind is just doing my daily dr prioritizing the ones that give poetics beast tribe dailies and getting involved in hunting parties. Also do maps I think the dragonskin maps ha e a chance to drop some of those items.

They do, dragonskin is for the ore and wyvernskin is shells.
