Can Accuracy and Parry be removed already?

Like I said in another thread, we should do away with accuracy entirely. The duties are already gated by item level, and raids/trials have DPS checks anyway, right? So, really, what's the point in having accuracy in the mix too? I don't know anything about how parry is calculated, but even that has to more useful than accuracy. Of course, nothing beats the still present elemental resistance stat(s) and entire character page allocated to their usefulness, or lack thereof.

How is accuracy actually hurting the game or your ability to play it? Many games have mitigating hoops that you have to jump through or limitations to how many goodies you can have and the game is scaled with this in mind. Accuracy serves to limit a quota or requirement. You have to have x amount off accuracy before you can have the fun stuff.

This is an incredibly common facet of game design, implemented to keep things from being broken. You may not realize it but its satisfying to work within a requirement and then satisfy it. Thats what a challenge is. Think how many games of any kind, from poker to Call of Duty, that require you to have x of y before you can z. A lot, right?

Hell lets just remove all gates from the game. No weekly caps, clearing normal modes drops savage gear, melds succeed every time, and relic weapons with 9999 crit/det/adjustable sks and no parry/acc are sold by vendors for 100 gil. GG.

how removing accuracy as a stat can work:

characters ilevel at the content's minimum ilevel = 80% chance to hit
characters ilevel at the ilevel of the gears from the content = 90% chance to hit
characters ilevel +30 ilevel over the ilevel of the gears from the content = 100% chance to hit

Once I realized I had no chance to miss regardless of what I did, the gameinstantly lost all sense of challenge and threat, and was shortly sold for a pittance. Getting rid of accuracy would do nothing good, except rid the game of whatever challenges it has.

Let's just have no planning, thought or trade off for stat allocations and just make the biggest numbers work. Accuracy is a gate and I'm fine with it. We need more gates like for certain people to be allowed to log in...

RNG = Skill to you, GOTCHA

No, it would change nothing except make the game funner. Removing accuracy and adding secondaries that actually matter and make you have a choice in how you build your character customization and actual skill in knowing what your character needs sounds much funner to me.

Accuracy is a stat that takes no skill at all. It just means if you don't have enough you can't hit. There is no challenge involved in this process. Its called "Luck".

How on earth is "does this hat give me accuracy? yes/no" challenging? How is being at the mercy of RNG, in this case, pressing a button and missing 1/10 times, a challenge?

"Do I have enough accuracy to poke this with a stick?" isn't fun, engaging, or challenging. It's just an unnecessary gate that disallows any meaningful gearing choices. Case in point, the current state of healer accuracy.

Rather than remove them entirely I wish they would just rework them in a way that makes the stats meaningful. Have higher accuracy increase the chance of landing a crit or have a proc effect for each class if you manage to land a hit in a certain spot like the positional and have accuracy be increased for these attacks when done right and from behind for some other classes. It makes sense right an enemy should have a harder time blocking from behind or noticing an attack and the more accurate your character is the more likely they will hit weak spots landing a huge blow. Having it do more than just decide how often you land hits makes it feel more worthwhile to get more and much the same with parry make it possible to use the parry stat to take zero damage under certain circumstances with the chance higher the more parry you have.

You're right, I'm perfectly fine with that! I legit couldn't care less one way or the other. As a healer that does DPS, you could be off dancing on the other side of the map and I wouldn't care, provided there's no wipes.

Given the current hot topic of healer dps I'm rather inclined to disagree, it is in fact worthy of consideration. But I'll bear that in mind and sit with my thumb up my arse while my fairy solo heals everything that isn't midas. I mean, you're ok with me not DPSing right? After all, it's a luxury.

You clearly fail in reading comprehension! I did, in fact, say that I DPS as a healer, so that cute little snapshot's irrelevant. 'May' is equivalent to 'might', meaning, 'If you judge it to be safe to, you can weave in some DPS spells'.

• 3. Make the brownies: In a small bowl, beat the 2 eggs together. Set aside. Melt the butter in a large microwave safe bowl in 30 second increments until melted. Stick them into the refrigerator as your prepare the ganache. You want the frosting to slightly chill on the brownies.
  
• 5. Make the ganache: Break up the chocolate into small pieces in a medium bowl. Heat the heavy cream until boiling, either in the microwave or on the stovetop. Pour boiling cream over the chocolate and stir until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
  
• 6. Cut in the butter, one small piece at a time, and stir until smooth. Spread over frosted brownies. Chill for at least 30 minutes before cutting.
  Cut the brownies into squares, wiping your large knife off with a wet paper towel between cuts so that the layers stay neat. Cover brownies tightly and keep chilled in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

I would be happy if they would just add some value to having more accuracy than the minimum to hit the target. I can see the value in accuracy making players have to choose their gear a bit more carefully and having a gear progression. Designing and making multiple sets with different stats just to have everyone pick the same ones because they have the most optimal off-stats would be kind of redundant.

The Novice Hall begs to differ and even encourages Healer dps. How could that be a luxury if the game is telling you it's important.

But on the actual topic, I think accuracy and parry need to go. You can't really defend the use of these stats. Take a low level class and hit a target dummy at level 60, you'll likely miss, but the target isn't moving. So how am I missing? It's not moving, it's not got a buff? So how is it logical I miss? It's just a obstacle put in the way in an attempt to make gear seem more relevant. Same with parry rate, it really doesn't stack up and it never has and even with the recent rework, it doesn't even seem like you parry when you should.

Accuracy is a stat that mostly every mmo I can think of has had.... Obviously someone thinks it should be used.... I mean it's even a meme on imgur, the whole D&D "I want to punch the ogre" "ok, he is fast, roll for accuracy". It's a very old thing. Does it need to go? I mean, is it really gating anyone? Gear does that on its own.

Parry? Well you probably have us there. The only job that has any mechanical benefit from it is dark knight and slight at that (as far as how much you need for you to notice a difference for the skill "low blow"). It's just a very minor damage mitigation boost. All stats can't be winners, eh? I'd agree something else would be nice, but as you pointed out, there is some lacking of usefulness of secondary stats.

Did I do the same Novice Hall missions as you did? The Novice hall only suggests you add some damage when everyone is full to speed things up. It is a bonus not a must have. This falls exactly into the "luxury, not a requirement" (prefer the phrase "Nice, not Necessary") mentality. Now if you needed to DpS in order to clear the Healer training you might have an argument.

Being +10 levels over content is considered overgearing it, imo. Else you'd have to bump bosses hp to ridiculous levels of boredom. 2 days later you are still hitting the fucker and they won't die, but wait... you are the min ilevel, you fail 20% of the time.
Yeah, sounds fun in every aspect. Maybe we could get higher stats for everything, but the numbers would go up aswell, making it more difficult to manage. We'd probably end up with 3k auto attacks and your best hitter doing 40k, sound like nice and manageable numbers to calculate around.

Accuracy has been around since D&D, get over it. It's necessary. Guaranteed hits and wins are for the weak willed. You just have to try a bit.

Depends did you read the same toolkit as I did? Because I'm pretty sure all healer classes have battleskills and I'm pretty sure you need to use those skills to clear the job quests. A healer not using battle based skills is a player not playing the class to its full potential. Which is why they tell you to weave in DPS skills. A healer just healing is the equivalent of a tank just using flash, overpower and unleash and nothing else because that's all a tank technically needs to do.

Since you main PLD you SHOULD know that your combos are not a luxury and a requirement and you must use them otherwise you'll lose aggro left and right just by flashing and likely get kicked out of instances. If they didn't want healers to DPS they wouldn't have made Cleric Stance, they wouldn't have given SCH access to SMN DoTs and they wouldn't have given AST DPS skills either. Healer DPS is a requirement whether or not you or any other healer wants to agree with it.

I doubt they would remove it. I can't really comment on Parry, but if they made parry to a point where it's actually useful, then it no longer be 2ndly stat, but something that every tankers will use (requirement).

Now, I have to agree that Accuracy is annoying stat (even japanese players hate it, a lot).. Currently, healers who desire to DPS are required to use accuracy material in order to hit. That's not how 2ndly should work. It's only stressful. But It doesn't need to be removed, just changed. Instead of a miss = zero damage. It should be, accuracy check fail = 50% less damage. That would make accuracy material desireable, but not something that forced to use. Every DPS job should have high accuracy, but none DPS primal should at least have very small accuracy attached. So it helps them keep up with new content.

No thanks. Without accuracy it would be too easy. Besides if not for accuracy id probably have more skill speed right now...

As for the extra stats you proposed.. again those just look too op.

"Full Potential" and "Good Enough" are very different skill levels. A healer can complete all non-raid/EX primal party content by by being "good enough" at just healing.

Just Flashing/Overpowering/Unleashing won't allow a tank to hold against DpS using their single target rotations on a single target, and rotating just the single target enmity combo won't allow a tank to hold a group against AoE spam. Either of these is being not "good enough."

A Healer who just heals is closer to a Tank who never stance dances out of Tank stance to increase damage. Damage is lower than their "Full Potential" but it is enough to clear party content. Tanks who stance dance and Healers who weave in dps abilities are doing more than they need to in order to clear content.

They are not a luxury because I would be failing to successfully do the job of holding all mobs. As long as I hold all the mobs and the Healer keeps me (and everyone else) from dying we are doing our jobs. It may not be to our "Full Potential" but we are doing our jobs.

Cleric Stance and DpS skills are there to allow healers to complete Solo content without being forced to party to do any content like they are in some MMOs.

The Devs have stated that Healer DpS is not factored into party DpS requirements needed to clear content. That does not change that Healer DpS is Nice to have, but it does mean that it is not Necessary.

I agree that accuracy adds another layer of complexity. It forces players to make intelligent choices about their gear instead of choosing the strongest stats with impunity. It's like if healers chose gear with no piety but, instead, went with all spell speed, crit, or determination. Just like not having enough accuracy would result in a decreased amount of attacks landing, not enough piety would result in a decreased amount of spells able to be cast. It's a kind of gear balancing that forces all archetypes to make a choice.

Now, healers being expected to meld accuracy on their gear if they want to contribute to DPS... that I have a problem with. :(

Did you know that developers actually commented that they support healer DPS in dungeons. So before patch 3.0, they added accuracy onto healer raid gear, so that they can hit in difficult contents. AST and Sch spells were designed for solo type. But WHMs are more offensive out of 3 healers. WHM has so many AoE spells and it's not because of solo reason. WHM don't really need assize with 300 damage potency. They are already offensive with holy and stone 3, good enought for leveling. Guess why they have Aero3 and Assize. Do you think with extremely high HP that monsters have in heavenward, ASTs going to solo kill 7 pack of monsters with Gravity? those spells were designed so that they can solo + contribute something while not healing.

Actually accuracy is rather stupid. You target monsters and you hit the button to attack at point blank. There is no reason to miss a punch yet i miss it anyway. Not to mention casters. If I cast holy on 4 enemies surrounding me, how the hell do 2 of them dodge it while hitting me, not trying to avoid it in anyway?

Makes perfect sense actually. As spell casting goes, players use speech to cast spells (hence silence stops us from spell casting). So if my player speaks faster, spell cast is increased. Skill Speed is like the equivalent of flexibility. The player only moves faster since their more agile that way, specially rogues/ninjas. If they just added speed then my pugilist (without the job stone), they could cast cures like rapid fire and that'd be pretty broken if misused, specially with the materia for our new gear.

WoW got rid of hit rating which is accuracy in that game, and it's been fantastic. Unfortunately they got rid of other interesting stats and a system called reforging too.

Can't have the best of both worlds I guess :( Well, you can, but the devs have to actually listen to players. :rolleyes:

I am amazed that people think Accuracy adds skill level... Binary stats always suck in every game. Accuracy is binary... it works until it doesn't. Its the same issue Tanks had with VIT in this game until just now. You only need HP up to the point you don't die and after that it did nothing.

Now if they where to add an extra function to accuracy that would be nice but until then it just isn't fun. Raiders get to experience the worst of it when they get a nice new sparkly piece of gear they can't use because it drops their accuracy to low. In just coil 1-5 my raid group ran into 4 different people stuck using lower ilvl gear because of accuracy.

Yes, please, let's remove them all the stats, let's have only 2, 3 tops, so we don't have to mix and match, god forbid use our brains. o/

It comes down to the personal interpretation of "good." Is "good" to you, a player who uses all of the skills given to them to increase efficiency? Or is "good" to you, a player who does what is needed to see the dungeon completed?

I mean the argument has so much more nuance (or nitpicking, depending on how you look at it) but good lord both sides of this argument need to stop being so passive aggressive with each other. Everyone has a different interpretation of "good." If someone has an issue with a healer who isn't DPSing: get over it. If a healer has an issue with being pressured by people to DPS in downtime: get over it. Your runs will be over in 30 minutes tops. Things won't always go the way you want them to. Just because someone doesn't play the way you want them to doesn't mean they need to be belittled or have passive-aggressive sarcasm slung at them. The horse died long ago, and yet both sides of this argument keep beating it.

Ok, here is my thoughts:


Accuracy - In general it could go, but if it was replaced then something else would be needed to replace it to know if we can hit a mob or not. In general, if your in the appropriate tier of gear for the content you are doing you should have enough acc to have near a 100% hit rate (may need to choose wisely to ensure 100%) with the exception of healer acc... (which needs to be addressed for sure). not reaching the make for 100% is a HUGE impact on most classes as a miss breaks your combos. Given this, you would need to make whatever the new thing is easy to obtain 100% hit rate at item levels below the generally accepted min ilv otherwise the concept of progression raiding and world first races would go out the window (e.g., M4S will be what 135 when it hits the DF, if we needed even 130 to get 100% acc it would greatly impact the a race to world first, and start to turn into luck of the draw that the DPS/tanks get more gear then healers as they are impacted by acc much more). No matter what they do, they need something to make it so your not able to hit things that are way above your level. Once again, accuracy is important, but its mainly in the raiding areas more so then pure DF content, so to many people it is a pointless and useless content (well outside healers where 3.2 made it very important)

Parry - Parry is a useful thing, but with the games design and how it is played, parrying an attack is simply a bonus, its never really a thing that's accounted for in planning to live through a fight. Yes again they could give each class a specific fixed parry rate and drop the skill (or make the skill effect the mitigation when you do parry) but that's kinda boring. I get they make this game simple and easy for anyone to understand, but dropping parry and accuracy is almost nearing the point of lets just drop all secondaries and make each class have set values with no user control.

TLDR - while they can be dropped, something else (most likely fixed stat for each class) would replace them giving less user control of there setup. Most of the game these useless stats (outside healers accuracy for DPSing) is only a factor in top tier ex primals and top tier raids, so many people find them more useless then they really are.

replace acc with double attack :3 , is like Duality skill of nin but passive % chance to proc ....and let it crit FFS

imagine if jump crit and proc double attack , doble jump crit , or double fell cleave crit ....what about deathflare double crit? :o

i loved double attack (Triple attack) on FFXI , haste too sadly S.Speed is a poor replacement.

On the contrary, I think they should make certain secondaries more valuable (namely Parry and Skill Speed), and also add an additional stat of some kind for DPS, so that they have the same number of secondary stats as tanks and healers do.

I already think the gearing paradigm in this game is too simplistic—I don't want them to remove anything at all, and enjoy the small amount of complexity introduced by Accuracy requirements.
