Tank BIS will be entirely dependent on diadem luck. :D
I am pretty excited for this. I started tanking long ago when fending was still "in" and it liked being able to weather hits without using a cooldown and having lots of HP... Felt right like others have stated. I asked a little while ago here about whether to gear with Eso fending or slaying accessories and despite some great advice held off... Glad for that now.
Although the ONE thing that made gearing more interesting is no longer a factor which is kind of sad.
Lucky for me I have a diadem set of fending. Would suck to be rushing now for the Fending pieces.
25k HP WARs gonna be having some fun.
Thats all fine and dandy for people that actually do diadem. Yes I get that diadem gear can be amazing, but the reality is most of the time it isn't and I am not farming for hours on end for a possible fending accsessory without parry and probably accuracy (highly unlikely).
Last I checked, I wasn't anywhere near your bowl of cereal for me to piss in it. I didn't imply anything like you stated, with my post. Some people would probably like to see BIG NUMBERZ HP while dealing damage. Honestly if I WAS near you, it would be my honor and pleasure to pull the tree out of your ass.
And to answer your question, I'm not one of them, and I never wore full VIT. Just who the HELL is going to gimp themselves like that in 60 content?
Actually, don't you even freaking answer that. It'll probably be some high and mighty condescending answer "not worth mentioning".
Yeah, I really do hope they change parry.
Well, I was wrong, but I'm glad they're making Strength not completely useless.
I do hope they refactor the leveling gear at some point, because this will complicate matters, but gearing for Vitality seems like it will be the most viable solution across the board. Glad I got on the train early.
I'm also quietly hoping the patch notes tell us that they're doing something to make Parry more viable as a defensive stat. Otherwise, tank BiS might still pull some Slaying pieces into the mix (if a Fending piece somehow has enough Parry that its Crit-Det Slaying equivalent is still better).
This is definitely something that can happen. I think I was working around with stats on ariyala earlier and if strength still has at minimum a .8 weighting to vitality (sheer speculation and it could be higher or lower) than you will see Strength accessories in certain slots that are say... accuracy/parry fending pieces when you can't use anymore accuracy. That being said this entire possibility goes to shit if you drop strength to around the .5 vit = 1 STR (1:2) mark. at that point you could have nothing but the fully allotted vitality on the accessory and the strength still wouldn't be better due to stat weights.
yeah, but vit 5's and str 5's are readily available now. 15 main stat in the normal meld slots are really strong and could potentially cap out the main stats on the item depending on how many slots an item has. being able to take a Slaying accessory and slapping on say 45 Vitality with 3 meld slots (not saying that it's going to happen just that it could, especially with the crafted gear being as promoted as it is for the patch)
It would be interesting if they added a Riposte mechanic of some kind - your next autoattack after successfully parrying an attack is given an additional 25-50 potency (maybe more). Giving it some DPS value would help greatly
It's too early to speculate on this, but I guess I just really hope they do something to make it better. A 30% chance at 20% mitigation when wearing full Parry gear means roughly 6% overall mitigation on physical attacks - and that's a drop in the bucket with how slow damage in FFXIV goes out.
I'm okay with the vit change, but I feel like not much will change. All tanks roll vit, and vit accs, and we suffer a small dps loss due to ratios and all that. The part that worries me the most is that parry is all over the place, and this pretty much negates any choices in peice we would have simply because parry isn't worth a damn, or be forced to wear parry because it comes on both piece options. I'm intrested in how this will play out in 3.2
Currently full VIT vs. full STR is something like a 300 point difference in attack power. My guess is this gap is getting shrunk to like, 100 points.
Scenario:
5 Fending right side, 2 have parry.
You replace those two with STR pieces.
Is the loss of VIT, now the superior attacking stat, going to be made up for by raw secondaries? I'm not seeing it. People may just have to deal with having parry on their gear while dealing superior damage and having a superior HP pool. What a goddamn shame. :|
Ah, I see, they're saying there could be 3 hypothetical slots before overmelding. In that case it would take 15, which still isn't that bad (they'll also probably make it more affordable to get tier 5s from Diadem). If there aren't any changes to the costs for Diadem then it would probably be a bit more time consuming but at least all the melds would be 100% haha. I think there will just be 1 slot, anyway.
the V's are all easy enough to obtain now. this would be the extreme end of things but I do agree 3 slots would be a little much. Predicting Lore tomestones will be able to buy V's maybe?
"In regards to tanks, we’ll be looking at each of the three jobs’ defense traits and making overall adjustments to their values"
i want to know whats this mean, anyway for now i love this changes :p
I just hope they don't nerf WAR. I'd rather them buff the other two.
I know Dervy personally. You can say I basically am Dervy.
He doesn't want to publish anything in case people start uh... Taking what he says the wrong way. He himself doesn't know how SquareEnix will handle the changes until 3.2 hits, so he could give out the wrong impression with the numbers he has and mislead a lot of people.
The changes are a lot more volatile than many people are making them out to be, depending on how the new damage formula is constructed, how Strength and Vitality interact with AP and how they scale etc.
He did post this mock-up of very, very quick weight calculations however based on one of his scenarios: http://puu.sh/mPffH/425e4c495c.png
By 4.0 every class will have just one stat.
What I'm seeing is a buff to vit tanks, and a nerf to str tanks. I'm not seeing this as a buff to tanks in general.
There was pretty much no reason to wear vit before this patch once you had a certain amount of defense. Now gearing for vit will give some additional bonus, at the expense of str not being as useful. I wish I had the numbers to know how much, but all that I know is that vit tanks will now do some more damage, and str tanks will now do less damage.
Maybe str tanks will still do more damage than vit tanks. But no matter what, I'll be weaker than I am this patch. I can only hope that the damage weight of vit is high enough that I won't miss str tanking all that much.
