In regards to low level gear, since there is such high demand for the gear you could make a fortune crafting the gear and selling it. It might be worth the effort. :)

The game was easy and solo friendly before this patch and still kept the new players away so stop using this excuse already. It doesn't matter if you one shot a mob or take 5 minutes killing it, you're still grinding and that's what kept most of the people i know away from this game. In every other mmo i've played besides FFXI, if you have to level up on just killing mobs its considered lack of content.
In these types of games, I'm used to people being either self-serving, overbearing assholes, or creepy nerds who seem unaware that nobody else cares about their collection of lolicon fanart, so you can imagine my reluctance to voluntarily subject myself to such horrors.
Definitely not that way with a lot of FF mmo players. but definitely is that way with most of wow players. If you pick a random 10 from FFXI -or- FFXIV and compared them with a random 10 from any other mmo, I'm willing to bet you'd have a more "respectable" or even more "hygenic" human on the FF side.
Also, I stopped in gamestop to pick up my mule account, to find FFXIV had been discontinued :( but they had one CE edition left, but it was discounted to $40, SCORE! My mule is now 20THM. Grinded to 12 with random mobs and leves, then got a party for giant crabs by bloodshore and hit 20 in about 1.5-2hr. I don't see why it's so hard.
just find somebody to help PL you. it's easier than ever now according to so many folks. Before the patch it would take 3hrs of PLing to get to 20, now it should be more like 2 or less.
ridiculous blanket statement... FFXI is indeed a much more hardcore game and much harder to obtain the best items (at least it was during the HNM camping days) and it brought the worst out of players IE: griefing, bad manners, etc.
Anyways back on topic.. the fact of the matter is i leveled my conjurer from 25-27 solo in the same time it took me to go from 10-11 lancers. Something is obviously wrong with either
a) the state allocation of low level players
b) stat allocation of low level monsters.
One of the other needs to be fixed. Some 1 star solo leves (solo *laugh*) are impossible to do if there are groups of 3 monster packs unless you have supreme patience at dying then resing to finish them off.
Ideally, an MMO is enjoyed at every level. There's content, armor, dungeons and activities geared for level 1 - 50. I think they've slowed down low leveling as well, there just happens to be little to no content to appreciate it at those ranks. I'm sure in coming patches they'll introduce more for lower levels so you won't feel the need to race to 50 to feel like you're going to enjoy anything.
I loved ffxi's leveling. I enjoyed 1-10 even. If I had nothing else going on, i'd go unlock a new job and level it to 10 in south gustaberg. Both of my mules even had all the basic jobs to 10, one i did blm to 60 then unlocked smn, brd, nin, pld, pup, and dnc, just to get to 10. Maybe it's not for everyone, but some of us love the grind, don't make us that enjoy it lose it because you don't like it.
Pay a lvl 50 thaumaturge to PL you in nanawa mines skeleton area 100k for a hour, and you'll be lvl 20 with any job lol
You all realize that just because YOU can't solo effectively anymore, doesn't mean the game is broken. I'm leveling additional classes now and it's never been better. Surprising to come to the forums and see people complaining about something that was actually improved upon... wait a minute.. scratch that..
It's not the mindless cakewalk it was before soloing mobs 20 levels higher with no problem/no rest... but it's not supposed to be..
Has anyone noticed that a topic called "its almost impossible to level a new character" and one thats called "Power leveling is broken" coexist in the most popular topics at the same time?
I do's da powalvls
Good thing that starting fresh without contacts, money or cross-class abilities and the difficulty of leveling solo in that situation has nothing to do with the ease of paying someone or getting a friend to powerlevel you, despite how many people think "just pay 100k to get pled in the mines" is a solution for a new, gil-less player
remember that power leveling is a byproduct of a system put into place with the intention of developing content around it, Yoshi merely said he was cool with people using it to power level if they wanted to, not that it was a new feature to offset what is a very slow solo progression below 25
ahhh but with the new exp system of relative base exp, its not so cut an dry anymore. you get more exp the higher your total next level is. So they basically flattened the curve a lot.
its not 1/5th even in those terms, of playtime, but it was kind of ridiculous before, comparing it to ridiculousness, isnt usally a good idea.
What im saying is, if an mmo has a cap of 100, your not going to hit 20 in 1.5 hours, if it has a cap of 75 dont expect level 15 in 1.5 hours, and if its cap is 50, dont expect to get 10 in 1.5 hours (even though ehhh maybe you can)
They basically rebalanced the overall amount of time you are each level, they didnt simply lengthen it.
Its gonna take like what, 1-2 days before you have a friend to level you?Quote:

Whatever, either its easy to level or its not, you ppl make up your minds.
Ugh, I'm sick of this "hardcore" demand. I'm a casual player for God's sake. The only reason I picked this up in the first place was because I heard it's solo-friendly, and it was until the patch came out. Now, if I want to make any SIGNIFICANT progression, I HAVE to group up with people to do higher difficulty leves and risk getting bunched with a group of incompetent twits or a band of elitists who'll probably kick me for the slightest, most insignificant transgression. What a bunch of crap. I don't care for loot or leaderboard statistics or "world firsts" that the degenerate W-RPGs have glamorized so heavily. All I care about is the damn story. Everything else is just for aesthetic purposes.
Over-exaggerate much?
I PT with random people all the time, never seen anyone kicked, ever. Even the people who do crappy jobs don't get kicked.
It's still solo-friendly, you just need to adjust your tactics a bit. I also wonder if your gear is correct for your level? It makes a big difference now...
I can't even get any decent gear because I don't craft often, and even if I did it wouldn't sell. Maybe to the vendors at least, for what THAT'S worth. Anyway, I've had bad experiences before with PTs on all the MMO's I've played. I'm a competent player, but having to put up with random booting and unnecessary criticism doesn't sit well with me.
As for how I'm doing solo, I can't chain mob because I get so easily overwhelmed, but I can kill consecutively with non-aggressive mobs (eg. Funguars, Marmots, etc.).
Wow, the amount of people defending the state of low level play right now is astounding. People are literally trying to re-created the hostile environment of ~2005 FFXI. This game is FUBAR.
I'm actually more surprised to hear this coming from you than anyone, but I do agree. Even later on in parties when things are linking, I do not find it challenging to instead of using single target cure spells, to instead spend every free second in the fight gaining mp to use Curaga to keep my entire party from wiping as things start linking halfway across the map.
I also do not find it challenging when about 5 things that I'm farming suddenly link together like incredibly hyper children after candy. To challenge does not mean 'double the mobs beating your ass'. Especially when it comes to areas like Nanawa where you're trying to avoid things that will WRECK YOUR SHIT but link anyway to a completely unrelated mob.
Leveling has become far more tedious than it was and even far less enjoyable. This isn't even XI-2, this is something else all together. I don't remember mobs in XI linking like /this/. Especially ones that are friendly, or won't aggro on sight.
I just started a character on Selbina a week before the patch went live. Having only leveled crafting jobs before the patch, I have had ZERO trouble leveling any of the combat jobs, getting gear, obtaining gil, or doing anything else at low level. Oh, and there are 4 people in my LS the same level as me so I have had ZERO help leveling. Its only tough if your lazy and want everything handed to you.
Change servers then man, I used to be on Kashuan and its one of the lowest populated servers in the game. There is a TON of people on SELBINA and the wards in uldah have been so full, i cant always find spots to put up my retainer. Have had ZERO problems selling low level items.
It has nothing to do with wanting the game "hardcore" but really I don't get a lot of people (this goes for any MMO) They want now now now, quick, easy. I dont want to play an MMORPG that I can "finish" in 3 months -.-
I played FFXI for 7 years, and loved every day of it, the only reason I quit was the same reasons I mentioned above, the latest minisodes to be exact. Leveling from 30-90 in a few days and making 75% of all the older content pointless?...... no thanks
I think this patch just shows how broke the game was/is. You can't find any low level gear because people didn't bother making it since you could equip anything you wanted. Now we have a real penalty in place. Also if you need to breeze through lv.1 ~ 49 just to have content that's a big red flag right there. The goal should be to fill up game with all level content otherwise they might as well start you off at lv. 50.
PS. If you think this plays like FFXI go ahead and swing over there to see what book burns and aby is all about. That is boring content IMO.
