Yes because we didn't expect to be running the same carrot on the stick mill here.
The problem for me is they offered nothing new, at all.
Not a single new system.
As for PvP: PvP feels the same exact as every other PvP. Hell, if you're in Primal...Aether, whatever Balmung is at.
Twin Adders suck so badly in PvP and always will. I'm under the impression they just do roulette and be get tomes
and be done with it. No team coords, and when you try, people act brainless.

Now this is PvP I'm willing to get into again. My fave PvP game
and it was made by SE! Now WHY can't they do something like this again?
[Very old game but I had a damn good time in a year it was up for NA.]
Takes lots of COMMUNICATION and help from your team. It even brings people closer to each other.
Had people well known and took some skill so when you seen so and so...you knew the game was going to get better.
Very very fun. 10/10. WOULD PLAY AGAIN! ;____;
I feel your pain ;_;
Theres a few things I wish were in 14 from the old games.

It is a very telling sign of the current state of affairs that, since 3.0 went live, more and more people are making these types of threads. Threads that reach hundreds of responses, that stay on the main page.
It's not a good sign. The "same old, same old" design was fine up to Heavensward, because SE didn't know if ARR would succeed or not, so they kept things more or less the same for the two years. This was a smart decision. That "free pass" on giving us Hard Mode dungeons we've already leveled through many times, HM/EX primal patch after patch ended with 3.0's launch.
SE didn't even try to give us some new way to chase Carrot #598689(tomestones), they....just did the same they've done for two years. Of course people are getting tired of it. We don't want the game to turn into some other MMO, we want the game to add onto the content we have, not simply replace it each time.
What makes me want to deck someone is the fact we've been complaining about these problems since shortly after release and he's still doing the same thing. Do we need to make petitions to communicate with this guy? Does he even look at the forums? When the forums literally get set on fire a little over a month post expansion release, that indicates maybe there is something wrong with how the content is structured. Especially when its the same criticisms from release. I think its entirely understandable why some people are ticked off.
Leveling experience - Perfectly fine
Presentation - A+, this stuff is dope
End game - Makes me wish he actually listened to the people trying to communicate with him back in 2013 on release. If they want a subscription-based MMORPG, they should implement and improve upon stuff from subscription based games, not games that have gone F2P.
OP I feel the same way :( I keep wondering why they added nothing new...just more of the same. It is very strange...I understand with 2.0, playing it safe, taking their time and catching up, so the rehashed stuff I overlooked. However, with an expansion, where is all the new content?
Sadly I had to unsub...I just can't bring myself to play anymore, unless they put in new stuff...
While i have found something new in fanart and drk, i do agree with the op's points on other systems.
I remember people were waiting until the expansion's release to see if the game(or their once preferred enjoyment outside of the duty finder) would be revitalized. I myself was hoping for recipies and outfits that were not as restrictive as the (material)(outfit)of (overused verb). Im still waiting for the chocobo issues to be fixed.
Only to find not as much changed at all. Raiding is still favored, crafting has even more limits with no payoff(they even copypasted gear!) ,and now people are even more fearful of introducing something outside of se's predictable cycle of content.
Having lurked and trolled the WoW forums for years of my life. More complaint threads isn't really indicative of much.
Sometimes they respond to them, sometimes they don't. Sometimes the person has a quantitative argument, and other times it's entirely subjective or even factually incorrect. This seems to have no bearing on how many people agree with the argument at all.
The larger the number of people that play this game, and the longer that those individuals play this game, has a much larger impact on how many people complain on the forums than when anything is actually wrong with the game. Simply put, there's a larger sample size and people who've played longer tend to complain more.
I'm a returning player having left shortly after capping out when ARR came to pass.
I got Whm to 50, all 8 crafts and was close to all the gathering. Was where you are and left. It doesn't really matter what I ended up playing and I did sub back up twice since then, once for a month, once for 3 months to see what had changed. Then left again, letting the sub fade away. So really I was gone for over a year.
Seems to be more to catch up on this time returning. Hard to say how long I will be here this time. I'm not worried about it. Finding your motivation? It might be in another game.
not to be mean, but the whole point of games in general is to waste time in the form of entertainment. what someone finds entertaining is subjective. as for MMOs that made huge changed on expanison; they either went back on those changes, or those same changes caused huge balance issues. regardless, there is no pleasing everyone.
Same people posting the same old threads and replies.
A lot of the crafting's restrictions and housing problems haven't been fixed for quite some time.
Now getting to the top is harder, crafts look for more in recepies, the scripts are what they are...but the results are just as much a letdown.
This is just plain not pleasing.
Maybe getting to the top is being dragged out, so the difficulty can be eased by time and not by nerfs.
He's using a different definition of the word "trolled" than I think you think he is.
To "troll the forums" can mean to just browse them, fishing around for topics that interest you. This definition doesn't (necessarily) mean that he was posting inflammatory dialog to try to get people to react.
Though you CAN do both. You can troll the forums - looking for people to troll. XD
I just re-subscribed yesterday :)
now, i took about a 3 month break, came back about a month ago and boom i'm at it again. thats why i always tell people, if you're not enjoying the game for whatever reason, dont force yourself to play it. take a break. if you come back, cool. if not, you probably found something else you enjoy just as much!
That one word aside, he does have a point. There's a good measure of perceptual bias involved in using something like the number of complaint threads (or even the number of responses and/or "likes" on those threads) on the official forums as proof that the devs are doing something wrong. The fact that there's more complaint threads isn't necessarily indicative of some fundamental flaw with the expansion or even that people are generally unsatisfied with it. It could simply be because we have more players now than we did before Heavensward. A larger playerbase means there's more people to potentially dislike something and complain about it. Not to mention, the forums don't represent the majority of the populace, as typically only a small portion of an MMO's playerbase actually uses the official forums. You can't discount the fact that people don't typically speak up when they're happy with something, either. When people are happy with a product or service, they usually just enjoy it. Few go out of their way to give kudos to the devs for things they like, but if they dislike something, they're apt to speak up.
Food for thought, in any case. :3
I don't like how this is a very acceptable approach. It's okay to take breaks, I agree with that..from anything in life. But usually a fun hobby no one really wants or needs a break from entirely, maybe for a week or so..but months? Even when coming back..its the SAME THING over and over..same tomes, same 4 raids, same dungeons roulette! It is not like there is a ton of new stuff that we missed out on and get to try :(
Truth, and the poster I quoted did make a good counter point.
However, I believe that forums can be used to gain a feel of how things are going, good and bad. It cannot simply be dismissed. When there is a sudden up turn in valid, well thought out criticisms being brought forth, on the forums, in polls, twitter or facebook or wherever, one must stop and take serious look at the "why?".
There will always be complainers and whiners that are screaming "the sky is falling!!" every chance they get. There will also always be those who give well thought out examples outlining the problems they feel the game has.
My point from first post was that, with the expansion barely a month old and we're seeing more and more well thought out criticisms of the game, there may in fact be an issue.
I'm not counting the BOW MAGE!! amongst us in this observation, as one must separate them to get an accurate feeling for things, even if it's just a small sample of the much larger whole.
I'm not worried, maybe its just me. I watched 2.0 evolve with each patch, adding in so much content and new systems, etc. as long as 3.0 follows that same pattern of releasing more content with each patch, I'm fine with it. I actually missed the part where, if I play this game, I'm not allowed to play any other game. I didnt realize this was supposed to be a monogamous relationship.
They should rename the general forum to cry baby corner.
It takes like 10 major patches to produce the amount of content that 2.0 finished with. You can't seriously expect a bunch of new things to do on the patch that introduces the expansion. New jobs take a ridiculous amount of resources, as does a bunch of new quests/storyline/fates. You won't get the "bells and whistles" of 3.0 until further along its patch cycle. The exact same process happens with every MMO I've ever played. Introduce new areas/races/jobs in the expansion, then add all the awesome stuff later once the kinks are worked out.
I mean if this was 3.5-3.9 I could see the gripe.
I know right but one thing I have realized it's usualy the same 5-10 people complaining they really should you look elswhere to find a game that is right for them rather then trying to keep this place down in the dumps I for one I like to go on reddit a lot more fun there that is for sure. I for one enjoy this game a lot and I look forward to what other content they add in future patches that story cliffhanger!
I think the funniest part of it all is some people who are talking like this poster.
Joined this game 2-3 months ago but the rest of us who has been here since even early phases of 2.0 have been on the same treadmill and expected new.
I barely listen to you new folks.
Alright my bad then.
Point still stands.
Many Newbies try and defend the hell out of this game and only been here a few months.
We can express our dislikes if we want to. Could always go back to Reddit and get away from our 'complaints'.
PVP has been a joke since day one and people getting to glamour armour they don't have rank for but still unable to use it in the still crap PVP. Crap is crap no matter how you shine it up.
Gold Saucer is not, in any shape or form meant to be serious. The only valid reasons to even do it is if you're an achievement whore or just want to take a break from normal game play without actually taking a break from the game itself. Honestly, rewards outside of monetary ruined Gold Saucer because now people feel entitled to new, shiny rewards when something new comes along.
Variety is the spice of life but too much spice ruins the dish. Whether it is glamours or game play you get what they give. Ultimately the only changes they are obliged to make to anything is if it causes: 1. a halt in the game's playability. 2. cheating in its various forms to occur. Square Enix, no, the development team for FFXIV is not required to do anything outside of what their bosses say. We may pay to play but that doesn't entitle us to make unruly demands on already strained time. Gender locked gear will continue to be a thing for as long as they wish it to be so and if they want to reskin things to save time and money that's their prerogative. I pay taxes but I can't go to the state trooper's HQ and demand to be allowed to drive an officer's charger.
Crafting was never meant to provide end game caliber equipment. I admit crafting in and of itself is annoying, but then we come back to the inevitable truth that this is Square's game. The quickest way to deal with the housing issue from a realistic standpoint is to forget about it's existence. It's nothing more than overpriced glamour and is entirely useless to the community save for free companies with workshops. You'd be better off buying a room in your free company house. I have no idea why it is that people want to spend unGodly amounts on housing.
It makes no sense to me when people complain about things like gear treadmill this or weekly cap that. Yoshida gave you the reason why and people kep saying it over and over again. To put it bluntly in regards to everything in general 95% of this game's player base have better things to do with their time than to run hundreds if not thousands of the same dungeons, kill the same monsters or whatever it is you wish to be the "bestest they can be" in make believe. And for what? a sense of accomplishment? A new shiny toy that was hardly better than what was used before? Or maybe because their self esteem is so pitiful they need people never met before and most likely never will in real life to think they're cool. Want to know what a real accomplishment is now-a-days? It's making it through the sick, sadistic, greed fueled, entitled, dog-eat-dog world just one more day and have your wife, husband, child or family/friends say "Thank you, I love you." When you take a step back from the computer or console and think about it and I mean really think about it, all this complaining about a game you got no control over WHATSOEVER will seem exceptionally stupid. You don't go over to your neighbor's house and demand they cut their grass the way you want because it's not your lawn. Same rule applies here.
TL;DR Don't make demands of something that doesn't belong to you. No matter how you word it: petition, riot, or whatever you choose to describe it as generally gets you nothing or the polar opposite of what you were after to begin with. They don't care if you leave and will probably be glad to have one less overzealous, unjustifiably angry person to deal with. Your wants are no better than everyone else's and definitely do not trump the master plan of the game. (BTW I was calm the entire time I typed this out ;p)
>_> Which wouldn't be so much of an issue if they didn't outdate everything as fast as it comes out, which by the time all that stuff is here, new expansion comes out and no one will do all the things that were added, back to 2.0 again. It shouldn't have been reset to less content than we had in 2.0, it should have built off of it and had more variety near the start. As of right now, a lot of us feel like we wasted $40 - $120, for what equals to about a 3-4 month update, rather than an expansion.
^ This. I give it a year or so before they're back here with us, talking about how 4.0 is 3.0, which is actually 2.0
That's what it might seem like, but off the forums, in my FC, in telegram, skype, all the people I know who play are all agreeing with me. Most of them do not even bother to log in anymore. They are just too lazy to come here and voice their opinion and they feel SE won't listen. It is a lot more then you think heh.
I have been here since beta so your point is invalid :) usually only come here to see if there is any new info or on reddit funny though how you try to make an asumption though.
Not sure if that was directed at me, but for someone ranting about not telling people what to do, you sure do alot of just that.
At the end of the day the game may not be real, but the fun people have on it is.
This thread was intended to voice the things that are effecting everyone, not just me.
So your saying to the hundreds of subscription players that are paying for the game they brought that they have no say on the game they forked out their hard earn money for?
Theres a reason the forum is here and its for the game, not your sob story about how hard life is.
(I hear enough of that crap from the old guys at work thank you)
I understand critisim is needed that is for sure, for one I wish the cap for tomes was higher that way I could work on my other jobs as well. The main thing I enjoy a lot is the story and lore which I thinks keeps it true to what FF is. Hope the op does find motivation wether it be here or elsewhere.
I just want to thank people for the positive responses, I do enjoy the game, it just saddens me to see Square let the game have these problems and not deal with them after so many threads have been made about them.
