Wow... you healers really do like to bicker a lot.
I think people are complaining without giving the set a proper look in game, I personally quite like the robe. ^^ There is plenty of sets to glamour in game already.

I think in certain lighting it will be nice ^^ it's certainly better than the Alexander Normal Healer gear thats for sure :X
As nice as the designs are on it, and I do think they're nice... It would be nicer if there was slightly less "Robe" involved all the time. This gear is suppose to be for direct person on person conflict, would having your mages wear something protective but still-magey hurt? I want to call back to FFXIV, and an item called "Reverend Mail" and "Holy Breastplate", both equipabble by WHM ONLY, one offered huge amounts of DEF for XI, and the other Melee stats (Because yah, there was this WHM melee thing its hard to explain).

Reverend

Now, Reverend was a copy of "Haubergeon", a Melee body already in the game, but the Holy Breastplate (while probably a color swap) was unique to itself. SE Went on a limb and tried something different in XI in a moment of such daring I have to assume if it was in XIV that it was accidental.
I'm not using these as an example of what I want as I don't think just giving us a Melee breastplate is what anyone here wants... only that there is precedent for this. Even in XIV, Look at the Asuran gear, it has clearly metallic parts and pauldrons and such, something like a mix of that + Shirt (not Robe) I think would blend well but also look like a reasonable Battle-Mage armor.
If anything, PVP should be the place for this "Protective" and Battle-conscious armor for mages... its literally all about direct person-to-person conflict you'd think you'd want more than a Robe to protect you from someones Axe.
I feel they need more non-robe outfit for the magic jobs in general. I main SCH and personally think the job looks better when wearing things that arent long flowing robes (although those are fine), but there arent many options for non-robes that I, as a healer, can actually glamour. It seems too much gear that is for healers in general is based on WHM
The HW weaver quest line is like
MOTHER I WANNA LOOK GOOD WHEN I HEAL IN THE BATTLEFIELD. WEARING SOME KIND OF NUN ROBE IS LIKE i dont even.
Hence y the girl makes u craft her a chilvaric doublet of healing.
But somehow here we are in bedsheets again.
We might as well get a pillow staff lol that hits ppl for negative damage.
Seems like all their effort went into the monk weps.
I actually like the look of that set, and I typically don't like robe sets. Looks better than the AF2 set.
I was thinking of starting to pvp just to get it.
I see what you mean but, if you look at the picture I linked, there is protective plating on the legs and hands (possibly could be light plate gauntlets or w/e). We won't know until we actually see the set I guess. These aren't supposed to be the top tier animal gear, more like the entry level gear for PvP in heavansward, so maybe we'll see more of what you are after.
Yeah, it's so "lazy" to make entry level gear look the same, it's not at all like the Doman gear, so unique for every job! :D
I do think it looks a little... plain? I mean, in terms of shape. The i100 PvP gear all had unique shapes to it (even the deer stuff for SMN and SCH, lol). Most of these new PvP sets are robes and/or very long and they end up feeling similar aside from the colors.
Rather than comparing it to the top tier gear of last expansion, it might be best to compare this set to the i70/90 gear, those were also shared among jobs. We will likely get job specific sets when ranked PvP is out (which they've discussed in Live letters) or w/e.
I really like the new healer pvp gear actually
at least for white mage
these robes look very "knightly" its interesting
that being said, I wouldn't mind more longcoats on healers
I'd like to have a choice of healer gear that looks a little more badass, and a little less feminine.
Alright, I'll compare it to the old PvP gear.

The old sets we had 6 different sets split among the 9 jobs at the time, as opposed to what we're getting now which is 4 sets for 13 jobs.
Don't get me wrong, I love the weapons, I love the noble design on the new PvP sets, but I find it kind of strange that we have less sets for more jobs.
At this point I'm just hoping it can be dyed, and that the dye pattern is actually good (see Swangrace) instead of the usual 'splatter colour all over it so it looks godawful' (see Law set)
Nevertheless, here I am, still wearing the High Allagan coat - although I do really like the Orthodox set.
I quite like the new healer gear. I like the wings on the hood, the feathered and clawed gloves and the overall design reminds me of the nostalgia of my Soul Sacrifice Delta days...

To be honest I don't mind the robes - sure totally different designs would be appreciated. What I am really annoyed and honestly pissed about is the SCH book. EVERY.SINGLE weapon is totally kickass with little models etc but the SCH book is a TOTALLY random default book? WTF?
I was excited when I saw the SMN one above and then..yeah..
Now that you've compared it, notice how the new entry level PvP gear isn't reskins of anything we've seen while playing? Unlike the old PvP set, which is the vanyah (or whatever spelling forgive me QQ) set etc. So if anything it's a step in the right direction and is granting us more armour models to earn for glamour rather than stuff we already had access to, I suppose.
I kinda like the healer set actually, but I am kind of bummed that it's shared between all the healers instead of each job having a unique look. I'm also a little bummed that non-robe caster gear is so rare...
But anyway, yeah, kinda like the pvp gear; gives off a sorta ascian vibe, to me anyway.
I'll try to reserve judgement until I've tried it on at least... the drawings kind of gave off an Ascian vibe for me as well, just hope it didn't get softened up too much from the concept art to what we actually get, which kind of seems the case to me from the couple of pictures I've seen. I'm hoping that they can at least be dyed in a way that makes them look more distinctive in a good way. Like I'm wondering what metallic silver might do for both the hood/mask and body combined.
I personally actually really liked the re-colorings, so no complaints from me there. I really liked the bright white i90 stuff, BLMs especially popped out with white Battlemages as opposed to level 32's running around in the regular black set. When they added the crafted sets that could be dyed, they lost their uniqueness, but I remember them being really bold when they first came out.
But that wasn't my point, my point was that we're getting less sets for more classes and 5 of the classes are wearing the same gear with only a color for variation.
There are also plenty of gear that were obviously made without thinking about what the final product would look like on a male character, specially bigger ones, so if it's avoid another Scylla's robe I'd rather prefer them to be unisex looking, but we sadly didn't totally avoided that to happen again with some of the eso gear...
I just want a set that looks like armor instead of a robe. Just one. The closest we get are robes with a bit of metal on them.
I agree. Altho, you always run into the '' ermaghurd so offensive '' crowd if you design the gear sets even remotely different. People love to reject the notion that women and men are even remotely different, when there's very clear and undeniable general anatomical and skeletal traits. To the point where we even tend to move differently because of our hip movements. Simple standing positions for women can look natural, but unnatural when a man does it, because of our bone structure.
If they do a tighter fit, they'll be accused of sexualizing. Same thing if they show a bit of cleavage. Or so much as a single sign of chest curvature.
It would be cool if all of the robes didn't make our characters look like nuns. It's not as if this game has a lot of skimpy outfits to begin with. The immense majority of armor is fully covering in this game.
Wtb some tighter fit robes :(. Show off some form, you don't always have to look like a walking curtain. The flat robe silhouette is getting boring.
Dear lawd forbid that we don't dress like nuns all the time. Lawd forbid that any skin whatsoever show.
Sure, whatever. Expose that male chest too. I just don't want to look like a nun everytime I put on a robe because some people just love to believe that they have the right to tell me how to dress.
Ahh, so do you like the Alex healing gear then? I like the new Griffin set, however I still don't understand why the healing set is the Griffin while the bard/mch set is the unicorn. The unicorn has always been a creature that is more known for being a protective, healing like creature. Not to mention, conjurers even get a unicorn mount during one of their quests.
I don't much care for the Alex set. For example, here is how my SMN looks with glamour:
http://i.imgur.com/L7hhFCy.jpg
I very much prefer that to more robes, and I'll probably pick something similar for my healer glamour once I get to that point. As far as the new PvP set, I fully approve of the hood with /visor option, but I don't much care for the robes. A lot of things about the PvP set don't make sense (as you pointed out), and I don't much care either for MNK and NIN gear just being reskins so you have to spend double just to gear them up. Wouldn't mind if they looked different apart from color.
