SE, Please do somthing about the boring gear stats.. Please just read first...

People will be elitist no matter what.

I play the game to have fun, not to dodge elitists. Please introduce systems based on having fun, not dodging elitists.
Parsers? Yes. Interesting gear modifiers? Yes.

You know, if you really want to get rid of elitists - get rid of all gear levels, get rid of all jobs, give everyone 100 defense, no gear or armor obtainable, no weapons and have everyone have 1 skill that does 100 potency damage. Make sure that you add no mechanics to the fight, because if someone fails the mechanic, an elitist person may yell at them. Instead have everyone stand perfectly still and press 1. Please balance so no one can take more damage then they are giving out, because if we wipe then people will be elitist.

Adding more stats is a terrible idea, it adds nothing to the game. As of right now outside of Acc the secondary stats are meh. I do like the idea of bonuses on gear sets and weapons. Have gear you buy with tomes have normal stats only, but gear dropped by raids/primal have bonuses. It helps give new flavor to each class ever tier. Like Ravana ex weapons could have a chance to proc 1000 butterflies that come down and distract all the whiners on the forums.

How does adding stats add nothing to the game? This isn't about adding something like determination, but more like adding a weapon that heals for 0.5% of damage dealt, or an armor that has a 2% chance to proc blind when hit, or boots that make you run 5% faster etc.

Additionally, Crit is meh? Nope.

I have those boots! lol, but they changed the bonus from 1.0 to 2.0, now it extends the duration of sprint in cities, before it used to make you run faster in cities.. ;)

Plz no. They removed this system from the game because it was too much for everyone to have 3 sets of gear for every class that is situational to the encounter.

how it it situational, lol just increase the next gear ilevel to more damage than the anything the previous would have given. Now, the old set is never needed.. You can add bonus's to items that can be overwritten by better gear you know.. ;)

Sorry that i do it but...look at World of Warcraft.

They have these "Tiered Sets" which give you a boon to certain Skills and all. Just make something like that but weaker and Ppl will still exchange older Stuff for the newest one because the stats are better.

I feel like materia could have filled this hole, but the limits they place on it now , combined with having only a use on crafted gear, make it only helpful for doh and dol.

It'll change the community if included for DoW. For better or worse i can't say. But i sure miss making gear that beats AF to hell. (1.0 crafting :) )

The OP is asking for stats. In WotL there was a ton of stats and most classes still stacked just two. It's pretty pointless. You don't have a MM hunter with max ArPen, we'll you can't raid thx for coming. Adding bonuses like I said per tier is cool, adds some flavor. The idea of primal weapons having unique procs is a good idea and set bonuses per raid tier to change things up a little is fun.

OP clearly said things like 1% of autoattack converted to HP, resistances, mp refresh and even went on to say he can't think of great ideas, but is just getting the ball rolling.

As for your WOW comment, just because something may have not worked with another MMO does not mean it's impossible to implement well. IMO Diablo has a lot of these types of things and Diablo loot is very fun. I can't say that I witnessed it in WoW, but I didn't play WoW a lot.

Additionally, the reason why it didn't work with WoW (according to your comment) is people just upgraded gear to the best stat anyway. How is that different than now? It doesn't seem different, so ultimately it sounds like adding this system would make people like me and the OP have more fun and would have 0 effect on you.

Sorry 1000 word max. That's awesome that you agree about the primal weapon unique procs tho! Personally, I find the gear and skill/attribute customization very very very very poor in this game. The rest of the game is hella fun though, so I stick with it.

I really dislike resistance stats. There are much more creative ways to get interesting stats onto gear. For example, WildStar is reworking its stat system currently and implementing a number of new stats such as:

Multi-hit: chance to deal additional damage/heal hit at a % of ability damage/healing dealt
Glance: chance to reduce hit by X%
Critical mitigation: reduces amount of bonus damage from incoming crit hits; coupled with a change to the combat formula and deflect critical hit
Reflect: return a % of damage received to target that dealt it (I personally don't really like this one, as it gives me bad flashbacks to TERA)
Intensity: increases outgoing healing while also increasing focus cost (focus is WS's mana)
Vigor: increases outgoing damage that scales based on your current health %

Interesting stats that theoretically will work in dynamically with the base stats already in the game. Much better than boring resistances, too (though I understand the OP was just providing those as examples and not specifically what they were asking for).

Anyway, I'd be all for some more variety in gear stats.

I see this as a symptom of why people are so impatient about gear and want to gear up quickly - of course you want to gear up quickly when whatever it is is only going to be 'useful' for <= 3 months.

In XI pieces that took significant effort would often last years before being outmoded, and even then would have situational uses. Now I'm not asking to carry around 20 macro switches for in battle gear adjustments or anything like that, but some semblance of feeling like theres a choice to gear besides what to glamour/dye it as would be nice.

Let's get real for a sec, even fully geared at most you're carrying around 5-6 sets for everything? Job-specific gear is sadly a rarity in this game, and basically if you have a geared "role" you can switch to anything else in that role.

Not if you want to switch between MNK, NIN or DRG

Gear progression is the only thing I don't like about this game. I would love if gear had some unique stats, and also lasted longer than 3 to 4 months. Maybe not years like XI.

Could even make it so we'd have to work for the bonus stats. That way we have something to keep us busy/entertained/subbed, other than grinding for all new gear.

Or even pick out of a list of bonus's that you can put on older gear through a grind quest or such. I think they had is right with relic weapon progression, would be nice if we got a chance to choose ability bonus's instead of just materia bonus's like crit or det.

i had 2 lv 1 fire plm shard in order to level it up i should clear ifrit ex 5 times fire plm shard lv2 gives 80+ fire damage +20 fire resist only can be melded to main hand,

to start collecting this , a players must have completed the main story of 3.0

I fully support the FFIX idea. I've suggested the same thing. I think it would be a wonderful idea. It would cause people to stop, level up gear and spirit bond it. Certain combinations might be over powered but that's something that patches will have to be for. There may be some certain optimal build but that's going to be expected from anything you do..so let the math raiders do their thing.

Still, a lot of the problem in this game is that by the time you get use to something you're going right into the next thing, you have no time to sit and enjoy things. This causes some people to rush, though even with a longer time frame between major patch updates, you will get some people who just spam and complete things in a few days just to complain there's nothing to do.

This would do a lot, make you back track a bit and be outside beating on mobs or level sync to dungeons in order to get certain actions. I'd sign something to support this.

He was just saying as an example of how to add additional effects to weapons without breaking the current gear system, as well as making the current primals relevant again.

The thing you suggested is basically introducing a whole new dimension to FFIV's system, which is huge (similar to adding a 'supply' role into the game). You need a lot of time/resource to design/test/implement the system you suggested, if you didn't do it well, it could end up destroying the subtle balance in this game.
Currently the dev team is already too busy balancing jobs, designing raid contents, I don't think they will be able to do this very soon (or ever more likely).

In the business world never isn't an option ;)
If enough people want it, it will happen.. They made Fat chocobo a flying mount, I couldn't even comprehend.. but the fans asked for it!

Why would there be balance issues? just subtract a little damage from the main weapon damage and add it to the additional effect, then create a shiny effect on the monster when hit. Bam enfire! with no additional tweaking and balancing.

Armor? remove some stats and add equivalent effects to balance the bonus's

I don't think balancing is the issue, I think it's more likely server processing power to process the procs of thousands of people would be the big issue...

Implementing a new mount is rather easy, you just need to design models/animation, that's like 1month's work at most.

But if you are making gears affecting your job abilities/TP/MP etc, there are just too many possible combinations, some of them are eventually going to be overpowered compared to others (in Endgame 8-man contents), and everyone playing that job is going to use 1-2 specific build. Then it just become another boring horizontal grind in addition to the vertical one we already have..

Diablo III's dev team spent several years trying to make their gear system interesting while balanced, but last time I heard it is still far from perfect. This can be a reference..

Here is the problem...
People are now going to have to farm for 3 types of the same stupid gauntlets, chest, legs, and Etc. for these fights. I also have my bags full enough with glamour and alt armor. I don't need anymore crap just so I can down 1 boss in Alex.

Here is another problem. The problem I see is that people are going to optimize armor to best stats and casuals will follow their cookie cut builds making other stats undesirable just because they are less optimal. Stats will go to waste and Yoshi p. and his marry men will have to fix it with nerfs and buffs so we can all feel like we are making a choice. "Why use poison resist stat when Tp is more desirable regardless of the boss?"

I get it. We want freedom and choice, but it did not work in wow and it wont work here.

It's totally up to you if you want to carry 2-3 sets of gear on you.. I'd personally go with what worked.. ;)

You do realize that relic weapons were for casuals that couldn't raid, and that they made it so you could put your OWN stats on relic weapons to customize? Relic weapons were MADE to appease Casuals! And everyone BUT the raiders like them.

yeah give mage Refresh/conserve MP , Melees TP conservation or Crit to TP 5% , and remove bard from the game, u are almost there anyway :P

but yeah , at least add interesting passive stats ....or PROCS ,every skill has a chance to proc 10% attack speed for 10s (internal cd 90s) , something that make u go ...woahhh....instead of "meh"

The killer thing with this game however is that they sit on a gold mine, they could have the best gear customization ever seen in video games to date. Yes I talk about the materia system.The materia system could be this games actual end game progression but SE seemingly refuses to do anything with this system. Wouldnt it be nice to affix a fire 3 materia to our weapon to give it a chance to proc a fire spell as an on hit effect? They could do so much with it, like give us materia that is specific to jobs. Such as a sentinel type of materia for PLD's that would increase it's duration. For another example a cure 4 materia affixed to a white mages staff that would have the occasional ability to proc an auto-raise on a target that has recently received a heal by cure.

Really the only aspect of this game that I find that's not Final Fantasy is it's gear, the series is known for having unique weapons/armor/acc. with cool abilities attached to them. This game has none of it.

The problem with "interesting" stats is that they create balancing issues.

Let's take as an example any stat that would increase potency of some ability that is part of some class standard "rotation". What do you put in as well to ensure that there is a corresponding negative side?
Maybe hard cap accuracy at 95% to compensate... Would that be acceptable?

No thanks. I've been through it already with Ragnarok Online's card system. It was a grindy nightmare then and I don't see it being any different here.

The problem with the FFIX idea is that it doesn't actually result in gear having interesting stats at all.

It just puts permanent stat unlocks behind Nexus/Zeta-style grinds, and I'm not sure that most people would consider that to be particularly compelling or interesting content.

Well, I'm sure SE would be able to come up with an idea themselves on how to get it on gear or if gear had certain stats embedded on them. that's up to them, i'm not asking for another grind like zeta
