When you mess up as a tank, sometimes you die. sometimes other people die. but usually, it just means your healer has to work a little bit harder than normal. it is unusual to be met with instant death upon making a single mistake.
in trivial content tanking has the easiest responsibilities to fulfill. you set the pace, you control the amount of incoming damage, you hit some high enmity buttons to keep everything on you and then you wait for things to die and take their stuff.
to a lot of people it is a very unexciting role to play in a dungeon because its like playing a dps that does horrible damage. they don't really feel like they can contribute to a group's success the way that they want to as a tank.
it's really frustrating sometimes when I am playing my tank and in my group the DPSs are doing awful, awful damage.
i like to be tank because i like heavy armor classes with big weapons, for fast queues and so i dont have to put up with a tank pulling things at the speed of smell.
