If you want to safely Role Play without any worry of people getting upset, you can use /echo and only you will see the chat. Personally, I have no problem with Role Players, but I do hate macros that include chat. It's the way my attention span works. If I see movement in my chat log, I have to look, so text macros can get me or a party killed. That aside, The party should have at least given the OP a chance to change the macro before kicking him.

I do still play as an Arcanist, and I do still use Topaz. Even so, my DPS was still well above half the other DPS in the party. My guess on the matter is that they simply assumed that my DPS was so much lower because of that, and didn't even consider that it was because half the alliance was dead that caused the failure to kill the hourglasses. I did manage to kill one of them solo while the other DPS were working on the other two in that instance, but we were too slow over all to kill the fourth.....

EDIT: I should say "well above half the other DPS, even with me spending most of my time reviving everyone"......

EDIT2: Either way, it seems to me that they simply wanted to blame someone for something, and I was kicked unjustly after having spent the entire fight trying to save the rest of the group.....

and that's not even off Naruto.... that's off bleach :P

There's a lot of people that don't mind it and there are a lot who hate it, just depends who you get grouped with. I get into dungeons several times with RP macro users, I thinks it refreshing and fun/funny if it's used with those non spammable moves. I ran a dungeon with a BLM that would laugh every time he was about to flare spam it was funny. Everything with macros doesn't have to be serious and there's nothing stating that it should only be used for healer and tank moves like "eye for an eye", "resurrection". Like i said just depends who you get grouped with. But if they dont like it just relax on it with that particular party

I do in fact use SCH as a secondary class when I'm running the DF on old dungeons to speed it up, or when I'm helping friends with their relics. But after trying to heal WoD with a bad group once. Never again.......

It wasn't the adds that were killing people. It was the Light/Dark switch, and the Doomgaze. We didn't even get the adds out before half the group was down......

After taking the time to read the thread, I agree on two things from what the others have said:

1: If you report someone, DON'T tell them you did that.

2: If you've got macro chat speech for skills that only do damage and nothing else, best to use /echo for those macros.

I use macros myself, but the only ones that have sound indicators and speech to them are ones that de-buff enemies and/or buff the party in some way. (Rez macros in particular are quite popular) And even then, I tend to shift these skills around to either be regular actions or with macro sound depending on the parties I've been running into lately. I used to have Trick Attack and Protect with macro sounds for instance, but I've removed those lately. Trick Attack because I end up using it far more often than I thought and the macro sound for it was getting annoying even to me. Protect... because I kept having people take off on me without waiting for that 15% armor increase.

That said, I honestly don't have anything against RPing macro users, so long as it isn't a skill that gets spammed like there's no tomorrow... like Fast Blade. Some of the macros I've seen people use makes the journey funny for me. :P

I can appreciate you trying to play the class differently, but it gets kind of frustrating when you keep defending yourself as this guy who does above-and-beyond to pull their group through. Don't victimize yourself and expect people to ostracize you or even kick you for something like this. I'm sorry but this is one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to people.


tl;dr : If you're doing something that you know is going to annoy/go against people; Whether its going into a raid as a jobless class and playing inefficiently, or using RP macros after being told to stop, expect opposition. It's hard to sympathize with people when they knowingly/willingly do this.

OP: Problem here is you're not playing alone. It's fine if you want to RP, but doesn't mean everyone has/wants to. The same way you got the right to RP, they also have the right to kick you if whole party agrees and your playstyles aren't compatible. Macros annoy and/or distract some people, though in 4 players content it wouldn't hurt imo, there's not much going on. It is actually better leaving (or in this case, kicked) a party that doesn't suit your playstyle and look for a better one.

Ok so I'm torn on this one, in the way that...
I do want to support the RP community, but on the other hand cluttering the chat will make it hard to distinguish important information.
People suggest Echo, I think that is wrong because then you might as well play a solo game. You are RPing in an MMO to find other people to RP with I guess and I am sure this is a great way to do that.

I have two suggestions, the first being simple and I think most accepted by all.
It's simple, just use the macro the FIRST time you use the skill in an instance and never again. People saw the text, it was fun, don't overdo it or it loses it's charm.

The other suggestion is if you absolutely want to keep using the macro then I suggest using /say for the macro as that makes it very easy to weed out from party and alliance chat. It is also a lot less noticed by people, heck even NPCs use this channel to spam so by all means spam ahead.

Op, from what everyone, including gms, have said on these forums, your report will go no where. Vote kick was implemented as a means to resolve conflict and it can be used at will. Obviously someone else didn't enjoy the macro so voted as well.

I can see you are genuinely upset and feel your entire play style was attacked. Personally, I dislike all chat macros and find them nothing but clutter, even rez macros. I see more people using them too. That said, in the past I had a rez macro for wod because I liked a way to track how often I needed to cast it, but I was once asked to change it so I did.

You have to adjust to your party. Must people won't care but if asked to make a simple adjustment there's no reason not to.

You'd do MORE DPS if you ran as a summoner, or more utility/heals if you ran as a scholar.
It doesn't matter if you're "better" than someone else, you're purposely playing with a stacked deck against yourself.
You're doing decent DPS, that's fine (though outdamaging a bard is nothing to write home about) but you're purposefully and knowingly gimping yourself and thus, your raid. You're trying to "non-specialize" in a game with streamlined classes.

He has a whole thread for this topic, with every valid and invalid argument put to him. You won't be changing his mind at all. It would be nice if he acceptted that things like that kick will happen because of it, but his loss for not being able to, not yours.

I really stopped using Text Notifications for my partymembers for Attacks and Buffs... or that funny raising macros or whatever people hit in there cause after a while, it really can get annyoing.

i myself love rp macros think there great but not everyone does so maybe ask OOC before you start if people mind if you use RP actions if there against it use echo as others have suggested hence it wont wreck the immersion for you

They were most likely all part of one group if they kicked you. While there are a lot of immature babies and jackasses online and in MMOs, its actually pretty rare to find an entire DF-style group who would be immature enough to kick someone for something so trivial. However, I suppose its to bond to happen every once in awhile, which brings up another point: did this only happened to you once or is it a fairly "common" occurrence? If it only happened once, why did you feel the need to make a post about it? Just suck it up and move on.

I love to rp, in game i always speak in character to some degree, i have done so since all the way back in xi, generally i don't even think about it, as long as i am in vana'diel or eorzea i am my character.

I have actually been told its like being in a party with an npc before (in a good way) all of that being said you will run in to people who ignore the role playing part of mmorpg sometimes, even when you solo (i have had it happen but only once when i was on a boat trip and decided to drg 2 hour a monster for fun) and they can get rude

But~ it is understandable when someone asks that a macro with a message attached not be used in a dungeon, there is generally alot going on already and sometimes missing something can be dangerous to the entire party, macro's with messages should be a special thing, an emergency move or something special that you will only do once in the entire party, it gives it impact and keeps it from being too much.

Establishing character moment: party is overwhelmed by links so you "my blade shall not falter before the darkness" invincible 2 hour, berserk, voke everything, warcry, weaponskill, icarus wing, weapon skill, kill berserk, toss up a holy boost move, holy 2 a thing, party survives and it meant something.

If you use it too much its just spammy

Everyone gets a kick once in a while, the last time I was kicked, I was in a Raid, we flew through the content and got to final Boss, then suddenly I was kicked for no apparent reason before we even started, luckily I had a LS member in group who then told me that a group within the group kicked me only to invite their friend so they could complete this raid, I was pretty damn annoyed at the time though.

This will make me sound like a dick, but if you're trying to RP with people who don't like it, then that can be extremely annoying. If it was a macro with sound,I'd of probably vote-kicked you too.

They had every right to kick you, think the GMs call it differing play styles.

I'd suggest that if you are asked to stop spamming chat that you respect the people you are grouped with and remove the macro for the dungeon.

I'm just imagining a dragoon spamming their RP macro while dead on the floor.

I personally don't know why you would want to RP in a dungeon made up of randoms that you'll probably never see again...
On a map in your sever? Sure. In a dungeon with friends/premade? Cool. But a bunch of random people from different servers you'll most likely never talk to again? Nah, don't feel bad that they don't wanna RP with you.

Change it to /say and ignore anyone who doesn't have a channel set for Party + important stuff only. It's their fault after that point.

I have a chatlog labelled "event" Which is /p, /a and /fc. This is the one I select when I really don't need anything else in the chat. I have only one for fun macro for LB and that's in /say, people tend not to notice it.

I get that it can annoy some people but, honestly, kicking people out of the group for it is an overreaction. Sadly, despite the in-game warnings about kick-abuse the GMs never take any action against players who do abuse it. The warning itself fails as a deterrent when they don't have the guts to back it up with action.

The way that you were kicked was uncalled for, and yes it was an overreaction, if it was endangering the success of the party and you were warned more than once then a polite "we asked you to stop and you ignored us, sorry but we are removing you." would be more than within the parties rights, but rubbing your nose in it and mocking you was just silly >.> and rather absurd sounding if that is what was actually said before you were kicked.

It is hard to prove cases of kick-abuse unless they can look at the chat logs (which i am sure they can..)

After reading some of the responses supporting the OP, I'm curious if you guys would be okay with a Paladin having a macro that says "PRAISE THE SUN!!" with some random sound and a big ascii sun every time he used Flash. Every. Single. Time. Or a similar macro for Provoke or any other spell or ability that's a regular part of a class's toolkit. I'm guessing no because that would be annoying as shit, right? That's how most people feel about text macros. They're pointless and annoying, but tolerable if it isn't something that gets spammed.

If it's a skill that you find yourself using more than once or twice in a duty or whose use doesn't really need to be conveyed to the rest of the group it has no business being in a text macro. If you absolutely insist on doing so anyway at least be wiling to change it if someone asks. Don't just tell them off or ignore them like the OP and then get pissed when they rightfully remove you from the group.

Were it in /say, no, I'd not give two craps.

That's said, as much as flash is bright, Hallowed Ground is where the power is at, that'd be suited to a quote more. Hell that's one of my few in-party macros, an <se.8>x2 A {Hallowed Ground up} and "Assuming it works".

I understand that RP macros can get annoying. Although, to be fair *ANY* macro when used repeatedly can get pretty annoying, even if they are one of he relevant ones.
However, I think that the party overreacted and that they shouldn't have kicked the OP.

I think its safe to assume, anytime we here a sob story like this where the party who cant defend themselves seems to have overreacted badly. That we may not be hearing the whole thing. Even so it could have been something as simple as they had run a dungeon right before with someone spamming that big **** dps macro, or that scholar one about touching their fairy until, well, you get sprayed with heals. Both only used by people we can make a different assumption aboutm

I see people using macro's all the time but they dont get vote kicked. Kick function got abused.

Using macro on every skill is really annoyed, especially when people set their Party chat sound enabled.

it depends on relevance of the macro
Hallowed Ground/Holmgang? Important for raiding, as it tells the healers what's going on with the tank for the next few seconds.
Provoke: tells the group, especially the healers, who has aggro on what mob. Essential for tank switching.
Bard songs: if the bard doesn't say when they're doing it, the party will usually spam with "SONG PLOX SONG PLOX!" so it doesn't affect anything.
Benediction: not always necessary to have a macro with text, but it helps to know when it's on CD.
Berserk: Since this one ends with a debuff that can cause issues, it's a good one to report.
Virus? Pretty necessary since 2 users can use by mistake
Raise? Seriously, no one should be debating why this is important.
Pulling macros can help a lot too, especially for ninjas and bards, who have a lot of cooldowns and abilities to use before the fight starts.

Pretty much anything else is unnecessary. If it's just an attack that does damage or a CD that boosts damage/mitigation, it's not all that important.

I think it’s fine if you want to RP in a dungeon, or want to announce which skill you are about to use, but just don’t go overboard with it. The ones i find annoying, are the ones that direct your attention to the chat box for something that is not important and/or happening frequently.

If you want to use ASCII art, displaying a buff piglet greeting the entire group, that’s fine. But it’s annoying if someone uses ASCII art like flipping their target off, while using provoke. Every single time… Or show a piggy shooting a bullet from a sniper rifle shouting “BOOM! HEADSHOT!” whenever they land a critical hit. Every single time… (Yes, i’ve seen those. Mostly while farming light for my Relic.)

The ones that do annoy me, use sound effects like the <se.1> (which is the same sound as the /tell). My mind is triggered to read the chat whenever i hear that sound, because i’m expecting to read a /tell sent to me when it does. I’m trying to perform to the best of my abilities as a member of the group, so i want to focus on doing my job right.

A big no-no when using macro’s like these, is to use them in /shout and/or use foul language ridicule someone else when you are f.i. Raising them.

In short, it’s fine to use text macros, but don’t overuse them, or ridicule/insult others with them. People can take offense of them, so if someone asks that you refrain from using them, it would be very considerate of you if you would do so.
