Let's talk about Lord Hauchefant.

I knew from the moment I met Lord Hauchefant something was up.....he just wanted to notice my Miqo'te. They way he gazes at her backside when every she bends down to pick up the quill pen he "accidentally" dopes. Or bump into him every time she goes and takes a bath.... +_+

I also want to know more about Haucgefant-senpai! (｡・//ε//・｡)

It annoys me what they did to this guy in the English localization. He didn't stand out to me at all until I got to his voiced cutscenes and realized how much more eccentric he is supposed to be.

Did you know they not only toned down his dialogue, but also his animations?

I and many others play a Japanese created game because we want their style of story-telling, cultural influence and yes, even eccentric characters... it's no different than why Anime is so popular here in the US.

There's no doubt that Haurchefant is a bit of a weirdo and harbors a hero crush (anyone remember the npc who said Haurchefant had to be RESTRAINED when he found out the player was going into Snowcloak? lol), but House Fortemps in general seems to appreciate the value of employing adventurers. Heavnsward site even says the lord of House Fortemps is rather fond of foreigners (unlike the other Ishgardian nobles), so it would make sense of Haurchefant, a knight of House Fortemps, to reflect that (of course it would also make sense for him to secretly disagree with the lord but after all Haurchefant has done to happily help the player and Mor Dhona and the Domans, I doubt he's a sneak)

Yep they really screwed the pooch on this one. I'm shocked that quests like "Stroking the Haft" exist, but they would remove Hauchefant's quirks from translation.

Anyone got a link to those reddit where they directly translation his Japanese dialogue? I really want to see what he really says in those to see what people are talking about. I always knew the guy was a super bro!

Interestingly enough, they actually toned him down quite a bit in Japanese in the latest patches. His 2.55 Japanese dialogue is pretty much exactly the same as it is in English, with no real suggestiveness or over-the-top behavior.

In 2.55 ( in the french version at least ) an adventurer you recruit for the battle of Ishgard says that Haurchefant kept looking at his ass all time, but payed well when he was working for him, I don't know if it was in the english version.

Haurchefant is our wingman. I hope daddy Edmont is the same way

I'm guessing sometime early in the game once we meet Iceheart again since a dungeon shown in the dungeon trailer is inside Ishgard.

Yeah this is irriatating as again we know things the character doesn't (like when the player didn't suspect Nanamo's cup was poisoned cause he/she didn't get to watch the patch video). We the players saw the pope with the ascians and saw Urianger with the Ascians.

It's also worth noting: localization for XIV isn't always "the japanese is written and then it's translated over" like people expect. According to the lore teams themselves, they meet up and discuss things like plot details to be conveyed, general script flow, etc, and then write their own versions individually - it's not the same thing as "there's one original sacred script". Haurchefant's obvious in japanese is just as canon as the more subtle flirting in NA (Which, when you contrast the NA and JP scripts in general, fits with the rest of the writing in their respective regions)

That said I've come to love Haurchefant. I didn't during the original ~L40 ishgard content because that part was plodding and dry and my least favourite part of the original MSQ and so I disliked everyone about it. But when we came back to him later he lit up like a christmas tree, with genuine joy and excitement that's actually very rare from the cast of the game.

I totally agree and have made this same point before. That said, though, early Haurchefant is one of the few areas I can agree that the difference is more extreme than I'd like. NA has veered towards the JP characterization, though, so I'm not really annoyed by it.

Could do it the way WoW did with bodyguard followers, so in this case if you had Iceheart following you, if you ran into another player that also had her as a follower she wouldn't look like Iceheart. Instead you'd see that player being followed by a "Honorbound Harrier". Likewise, that player would see an Honorbound Harrier following you.

Elezen are a special case where the in-game model looks like a giraffe, while the conceptual art looks amazing.

I'm starting to think we may not begin to take back ul'dah until 3.X MSQ considering everything shown has only been focused on only the Ishgard region and the Dragonsong war only for 3.0 MSQ clips.

A part of myself really hope that we would begin to take back Ul'dah in 3.0 but guess they need some kind of plot for 3.X and Ul'dah can be a long one.

I remember that April's Fools joke about being able to romance NPC's..and honestly if we could, I could see Hauchefant being a popular choice at this point regardless of gender.

On the quest to unlock Thornmarch you have to escort a specific named moogle. Other people see this moogle named as simply "tremulous moogle". So yeah that's definitely something that can be done.

You know i was like "is he gay....he's gay right?" (cuz i have male character) and after some seconds i was like "he's damn creepy!!! can he die pls? i dont want him to sneak in my bed or shit..."

So no i don't like him. He get's me creeps and i don't want to work with him as far i can do...

I understand it has been said before but honestly, I don't believe them. Every single time someone brings to light a deviation or variation, the Japanese version always appears to be the most accurate with regard to either an NPCs deliverance of information to the player and/or their visual actions seem to marry up much better with their message, as if that was in fact how it was intended to be. I guarantee you there is a blueprint which every team is getting about what is supposed to happen.

Perhaps the Japanese team isn't doing a good enough job of explaining sequences and NPCs to the English team. For whatever reason, the English localization from time to time is completely missing something, either in terms of dialogue or in the overall behavior of the NPC. I don't really care where the error in judgment lies on the English localization, the whole team needs to just GET BETTER PLEASE!

I'm not sure I ever read that the english team was writting dialogues, only thing is sure is that Koji is giving the name of the place and characters, that kind of things, he also write the stories of the places because that's how he create a name.

That wouldn't be very efficient, and you can see by comparing translations that usually they are direct translations or close, so I don't by the "each team write their own dialogue based on a main script"

Lord Hauchefant strikes me as one of those NPC companions that show up even when you do not invite him (or watch you from the bushes). He could play a key role in Tam-Tara Extreme, after he feels you haven't been paying him enough attention.
