Because I didn't give a shit about achievements, I didn't do, as I said, almost all of the content? And, again, within 2-3 months. I played only to get the Legacy status, and was able to clear that much, pretty much solo. And way to ignore the rest of the post, because you can't actually defend against it. The game had very few redeeming qualities, broken mechanics (again, look at WAR), a bland story, weak content, severe lack of difficulty, and the worst auction house system ever invented. But it had achievements with arbitrary numbers so I guess there was stuff to do. Right.

I did make an effort of logging in almost every day. I think it's kinda inevitable anyways that the server going down.

I miss my old Gridania, unlike current ARR's. Like I said over and over, it felt like a park rather than 1.0 forest like.

Tbh I would love to go back to 1.0 and finish my story as my character is feeling a little unfinished from that era, sadly during the 1.0 ups and downs I was battling cancer so gaming was far from my mind.

But yes there are a few features I do miss from 1.0 and I would love to see them once more: Huge Landscapes, Cross class skills and the absolutely beautiful long walks/rides from city to city, kinda makes me sad everywhere is so instanced and small but don't get me wrong I do enjoy 2.0.

Hehe that was actually thrilling. trying to tag that lone sub aether surrounded by level 99 mobs, and some of them are true sight/smell aggro. We do nekkid WHM just for the heck of it. XD

And every time someone forget switching to walk mode getting to King Mog battle entrance, we wipe and we laugh. XD

This. Although I'd have liked to try the earlier 1.X balancing given the classes got an overhaul at one point to my recollection after YoshiP took over to simplify their skill list.

It won't happen though due to operating costs involved and having to maintenance ancient server code. Probably some licensing stuff involved that would prevent them from releasing the source 'as is' for community use also.

I played the original, so to sum it up in a word... No.

Search is garbage here so I don't blame you but this has been brought up many, MANY times.

I would like to be able to see it, having a Dynamis-esque echo to return to it might be awesome, but the game as it existed ?? Probably not... It sounded like you still required other people to adventure at all or to make any significant progress. that's why I never got far in xi. If they made it a self-contained game you could play alone. I'd try that! I'd love to be able to experience the beauty of it, but I've hear it was pretty rough for gameplay...

Yeah some of the quests could be fairly brutal, and I was a BLM in full AF in 1.0 and I got slaughtered a lot, it was fun.

I would play it again for old nostalgia sake, but I prefer the ARR version now.
But having played XIV since patch 1.15, I do have many fond memories even though the state of the game wasnt great, as the people I met there was so much fun that it made up for lacking content hehe.

It had more heart and soul than WOW even ;)

Who does it for the achievements? Its just showing you didnt kill any primals, didnt do any hamlet, rivenroad etc etc. basically all of the difficult content, but you claimed it was incredibly easy lol. You just sound bitter about it.

If you did it just to buy legacy status fine, then why comment on others who would like to experience it? There was a lot of fun and challenging content even if you chose to ignore it.

Yes I would. I enjoyed the battle system way more and everything. I remember back then ALL my friends were playing. When they tried 2.0...when 2.1 and 2.2 hit they were all gone, along with all my 1.0 friends :/

To be fair, there was a similar debate back when the original game was still in beta.. one side arguing how bad it was, and how desperately it needed to change, the other criticizing those who disliked it and claiming everything was lovely.

And then the game bombed. It's not always the people criticizing a game who end up doing the most harm.

You did not read the OP, or you did not understand the OP. My comment was answering the question, "Would you play this?" Instead of just saying, "No," I gave my reasons as to why. Those reasons obviously were not good enough for you, so you responded to exactly one of those reasons. And yet for the 2nd time you ignore the other reasons. Either way, you're the one off topic. I'm the one trying to explain why I would not play the game, and giving accurate information as to why or why not. Do you understand the difference?

Would I visit for the fun of seeing the old game engine again? Sure. But would I actually play? Not likely... While I miss the solid canopy that was the namesake of the Black Shroud, I don't miss the copy/paste landscape beneath it. (Still hoping that maybe a few expansions down the road, they allow for Eorzea to "heal" a bit further from the calamity and give the Black Shroud its shroud back.)

How do you know the story was bland, you didn't do it.
How do you know the content was weak, you never even did it.
How do you know it wasn't difficult, again you didn't DO anything.
And the Market Ward sucked for the beginning of 1.0 and then they changed it so its not far off from what we have now.

I however played from beginning to end. And while it definitely had its flaws it also had its charms.
The story was done very well and made me attached to all the main characters including my own.
The combat in the end (1.23) was a lot of fun & not broken.
Hell even the community was more helpful and tight nit compared to how it is now.

So you can trash 1.0 all you want but at the end of the day you don't know what you're talking about cause you never tried to actually experience it, so I take what you have to say about it with a grain of salt.

Back on topic though: I have always thought since 1.0 was taken down that it would be cool if they released it as a single player or co-op game where people who weren't there (or people who want to redo it) could go back and experience it.
Always kind of regretted not going back and recording all my storyline with my character :(

If the game was the same as it's last patch and worked from there, actually...I would. There are times I miss 1.0. I love 2.0, and greatly look forward to 3.0, but I did enjoy my time in the latter half of 1.0. (I have been a part of this game since 1.0 first launched,) and although the launch itself was a disappointment that caused me to take a few months hiatus from the game, I came back a few months prior to SambonZ's Distant World creation video that ultimately led me to be a part of one of the best communities I could have found, that not only renewed my love of the game, but reminded me why I love MMO's.

They could always have a expansion where we go back in time to see 1.0. Not sure how that going to work seeing how it be all copy/paste area so it cant be 100% 1.0 even tho the game look nice the area was really copy/paste everywhere.

That is one of the few things I don't miss about the game

I wouldnt mind there being a video on the events of the previous game to give us a more in depth tale of the story.

With that in mind I probably wouldn't play it. Mostly due to time constraints though as one MMORPG is more than enough for me.

It's probably not something I'd play long term though. The combat looks extremely dull and drawn out.

1.23 was acceptable.
But there were still many issues, like animation-lock, boring maps, 5 minute teleport queue time during the Atamos event, max. limit of 30 visible enemies & characters.
And seperate city markets. Everybody use the Uldah market because nobody buy in the other city. Everybody buy in Uldah, because nobody sell in the other cities. Result were 2 empty city markets and 1 overcrowded city market were a competition about retainer space started (*sorry, the market is full currently. Please try to send you retainer to the market to a later time").

What was good were the faction leves, the dungeons, the primal fights and the Nael van Darnus fight.

No, I tried the original game, and it was terrible.

I would love to play 1.0 if it meant being able to go through the story scenes pre-calamity. I never did play 1.0 because my computer was terrible, and despite knowing the events of the original, I'd love to play through them myself.
But it's purely for story purposes, the gameplay itself doesn't interest me all that much.

I'd much rather prefer FFXI pre-abyssea.

If it wasn't horrible, maybe it wouldn't be "parroted" over and over.

I would play through it if doing so would give me that sweet legacy chocobo... that I didn't get since I didn't pay a sub during the qualifying timeframe to receive one... *will forever be salty about that*

Like some else said. Maybe for the story alone. But beyond that nope. It took forever for me to get used to its combat system. Half as long to figure out how to level without more than a handful of leve's. And cringing that some of things I wanted were locked behind things I will likely be unable to do without getting yelled at/kicked. XD

So ya. For story. I could enduring for maybe that.

Actually...no it doesn't tell anyone anything. As that would only be the handful of people that actually played 1.x. Considering the player base has grown by quite a bit since then, I'd say a re-vote would be in order. But I'd personally wouldn't want them to really.....reopen the old servers. But instead if they could, work out optional battles and key cut scenes as it's been suggested earlier to retell the story. Because honestly, those memories belong to the people that actually put up with all the BS they game had to offer.

Ok, it was constructively bad....

Hard to say something constructive about something you found overall bad.

I'd play it. The combo system was better back then, IMO. It even extended to black and white mages. When you didn't combo spells, they had entirely different effects/uses than when they were utilized in a combo, effectively giving you more variety. The raids and primals in 1.0 were also a lot of fun. Lets not forget that females actually had asses in 1.0, also! Can't forget that fact, I still think it was downright stupid to remove the asses. In fact, they didn't only do that, they also tweaked the models much more, making them significantly less life-like. I won't say 1.23 was better than ARR, but it certainly had a few things going for it. I think the biggest, most annoying change is the lack of elemental resistances on mobs/players. I get that they wanted BLM to perform equally well in DPS on every fight, but it just destroys the depth of combat we used to enjoy. There is barely even situations where slashing/blunt/piercing damage bonuses come into play anymore. There are only a couple situations where this applies at all. In fact, the only one i can think of off the top of my head right now is T2, where the boss will have different strengths/weaknesses depending on which path you take.

After having seen Youtube videos of 1.x gameplay... I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. So... slow...

I do enjoy the backstory, but I can find that in the Lore forums, on Youtube, and in Wiki articles.

To be fair we were shown a huge laundry list of features they were adding. But they didn't say when but made it sound like they would be added for launch, whereas when launch came, all we got was exactly what we got in Beta. Nothing from the list.

If they told you tomorrow that from this day forward everything you did in ARR, every achievement, every level, every craft, etc. would get erased the moment you logged off would you still be playing ARR? Do you think more than say 5% of the player base would? If you answered yes to that question you are lying to yourself and you know it.

When they reactivated the servers in December 2012 that is exactly what it was a game that reset itself when you logged off. That is the reason no one wanted to log on. I hate when people act like that reboot was of a fully functioning, progressable game when it wasn't then blame people for not wanting to play it. Especially since no one would play this game if it were in the same state with a constant log off reset.

It is these Small little details that people who bring this up always seem to forget. Wonder why that is?

Only if they made it Easy mode so I could finish the story.
