This crap again? This game isn't FFXI, it isn't FF VII, it isn't any other title, but FFXIV. It will take a good chunk of time before this game is even CLOSE to as good as either of those games were. Doesn't mean it's a remake of them, though.

I did, back when I was playing XI and SE announced a next gen MMO. I was hoping for a game that also takes place in vana'diel whether in the future or a different part of the map.
However I was still excited for the game when I learned it wasn't and was hyped to play at launch. Unfortunately it turned out horrible.
I don't know who's fault it is, I'd like to blame SE's greed lol. Either way, since YoshiP took charge the game has become a lot more fun. Tanaka had great ideas but they didn't turn out well. An "easier said than done" situation I suppose.
Its was more like Tanaka not having enough time to recover from the unfortunate premature release. He actually only did 1 patch and was moved a bit after second one was announced. I'm still waiting to see what Yoshida has in mind...until now all i saw was a bunch of copy/paste from FFXI.
Also, i particularly believe the original FFXIV had potential to surpass any other MMO ever made...was just a shame that it was killed by 2 fatal mistakes...the premature reease (it should've stayed in beta at least another 6 months) and the dev team change (nothing against Yoshida team. I just think the original dev team actually had no chance to react to the terrible release before being replaced).
IDK about that. Having recently completed the main story, it was not great. There were really 2 missions that i consider well done. the R38 and R46. Also, not a whole lot changed between beta and release. It's almost as if having a beta was pointless.
Also as far as YoshiP copying and pasting from XI, I couldn't disagree more. XI was so cruel to casual players it was borderline absurd. YoshiP panders to them.

What is happening to this forum?
Suddenly everyone is agreeing with me.
I guess the Yoshi-P novelty has finally worn off.
/disagree
nope, novelty is still there
lol YoshiP has done great things for the game, however in situations like the airship fast travel I'm beginning to think he has a problem with simply making a decision. In his attempt to appease the players he's beginning to realize he can't appease everyone and it's driving him crazy. /opinion.
Well to be fair, that's what Tanaka promised us (and failed to deliver no less). Surely you've noticed the change in management and the overwhelming desire from the community for drastic change (we were asked to be fair). That promise is no longer valid because as far as FFXIV is concerned the man who made that promise is dead.
Auto-Attack.
I want FFXXVII, cause I like number 27
That's all!
He failed to promise because he never really got the chance to, he only got to release what? 1 patch and then was debunked? Let's say Yoshi-P made FFXIV and somehow got debunked and Tanaka came along to replace him and tear down his game and add what HE thought was "fixing" it, how do you think it would've turned out?
I wish XIV would be as awesome as XI but with more means to play with smaler groups/ less time commitment. At the moment it kinda is like this but nowhere near as epic/ awesome as XI, which is sad. :(
I also like the fact that you don't have to find the holy MMO trinity for every party thanks to the armoury system (which still needs some heavy balancing).
I would love an FFXI-2... :)
I would really appreciate if FFXIV would be unique between others MMORPGs, like FFXI was. In these terms I'd like to see a FFXI-2. FFXI is awsome, and I want that FFXIV will become like it. So I'm waiting for a FFXI +3... Yes! :D
Those were not the fatal mistakes. The fatal mistakes were:
1) Outsourcing much (most?) of the coding to incompetent Chinese developers.
2) Tanaka greenlighted horrible design.
We're one year past launch and the game still can't hold a candle to its competitors, so a longer beta would not have saved it. The fact that YoshiP has to tear everything down means the design was a failure, not that the beta was too short. Your design should be 95% complete by the time you launch a beta, but instead us testers had to tell them which parts of their mess were salvageable and which needed to be completely redone. Of course they couldn't do it and the game launched in miserable state.
Also, I'd take FFXI-2 over what we have in a heartbeat. Vana'diel was a fantastic setting and XI took advantage of many great innovations that other MMOs still haven't been able to replicate (multi-class characters, cinematic story experience, a sense of adventure).

this right here:)
Yeah tearing down, rebuilding systems, remodeling systems, tuning and tweaking systems is why the wait is going to take so long for the game to feel smooth and responsive as well as the basic feature that are much needed, i'm not sure all of what they have to do because i don't know all the systems at play, i've learned alot about MMORPGs from the development side from this game and i think thats the biggest thing i can take away from this game at this point.
The way it looks though it seems like they are doing things in the form of one at a time, like battle reform and content then UI remodeling (maybe they are working on this now) they said they need to get animation vector/speed system right, I read in a translation they will need to move characters to newly designed servers (this might have already happened i'm not sure) the server latency issues, and PC crystal tools engine optimization. Just a big mess and alot of waiting for them to get to it.
Call it what you like, some people get sensitive over the name/title, the point is simply to bring the Goodness of XI into XIV with XIV's own flavour, which btw would naturally be the case.
Some people are almost ready to get a heart stroke coz they're so scared it will turn into XI.
Reality check, it will never be XI. It's a different game with different developers, different story and lore, different battle system, the list goes on.
The point is simply to bring XIV to the standard XI lived up to. That's it.
i've been thinking...since this game will be FFXIV and will be completely different from original FFXIV, they should also resume the beta test of original one. The game is pretty much "complete" to go straight to a beta test and, if this one is FFXIV, the original one could just become a spin-off game from FFXIV...FF already got so many spin-offs...same lore, different games/stories...maybe leaving the original FFXIV at 3rd or 5th Umbral era...chronologicaly far enough to make the stories completely unrelated.
After all its interesting for SE to keep players, no matter if they love e-peens or the Sims ^^: I would gladly quit this FFXIV and go back to original one, even it was in beta phase still...and i bet that, even if minority, many others would too...because not everyone liked FFXI and not everyone is liking/approving these changes...so this would be a win-win deal...those supporting the current FFXIV could stick with it, those who prefered the original one would move to it...it would not only bring peace to both communities but also lessen the burden on current dev team regarding not pleasing a beef of the playerbase.
Its like i said earlier...i just wanted the game i bought (and loved so much)...even if it was downgraded to a spin-off title.

I'm sure you understand.
Devs don't read the english forums and the mods and translators, bless them, probably don't bother relaying anything I say.
Then I'm surprised that the dev marker has been consistently appearing on a few topics here and there. Perhaps those "devs" are actually Chinese hackers. Hmmmm.
Either way, that's not an excuse for how you're treating Yoshi-P. At least provide something more constructive rather than; "Novelty is all he's got" and "new direction is crap". I can't really see devs getting much feedback on to how they can go about it from such statements, can they? Just because you're upset or in disagreement with a few options does not mean that we can take it all out on Yoshi. Spare him; he's only human.
I am not attacking him so much as his ideas.
"let's turn this into WoW as fast as possible without preserving any of the good features of the original FFXIV, nor evaluating the repurcussions of what we are doing"
That is not a good design philosophy.
I don't know how much more abundantly clear i have to be about this point. But to put it in layman's terms, nobody is going to want to play a carbon copy of WoW without the wealth of content, or a copy of TERA without the combat system and political system, nor a bad photocopy of Blade and Soul without the cobat and gear versatility, nor a SWToR clone without the huge amount of story-mode content and voiceacting.
Having a vision and commitment to that vision is better than trying to capture the dregs of the MMO market that probably have better games to play anyway.
Its named mule. You can make one too. When you have multiple characters you can just choose one and hide the others, regardless of their rank.
Check my profile and you will see. I have 8 characters in this account but only my main is set as visible...i could've set a mule if i wanted to stay annonymous...
And yep, i do loved the original FFXIV. I know it was full of bugs and had some major flaws...but the potential it had was bigger than any other MMO i ever saw. I bet that if they resume it now, very soon it would surpass FFXI and FFXIV in quality...and in population possibly...because its just like the consoles...people wanted hardcore consoles with HD image and badass games...and still Wii, the casual friendly console, was the one that sold the most. Many many people might say they hate Wii and its games...but still it does was successful in reaching its target market.
And now that Wii caught the casual players they will hunt the HC players with Wii U...and i bet Lienn's wet panties that again, if they don't screw up in one of the necessary factors (like, as example, not allowing external HDD for storage or not accepting USB KB + mouse) it does might just keep their casual players from Wii and steal a beef of HC players from sony and M$...because while the tablet controller might like dumb, the flexibility it offers to developers is just amusing!
I know the example was completely off-topic... ^^: i just hope it was enough for comparison purposes.
Pretty hard someone that never played knowing how the game works...maybe he didn't play much, but this also doesn't matter. At least i evaluate opinions by what is written here and not by character profile.
And i must say that if he's really Belgianrofl i'm surprised...because he had a complete opposite vision i had, while gifthorse and the user# opinions do match with mines. But, well, this is what i call being rational...being able to re-evaluate his own opinions as new info become availble.
What the flyin' flipper is a gifthorse?
I really don't want a FFXI-2. There were a lot of things that worked really well in FFXI and I think there's nothing wrong with bringing some of that into this game. I think right now this game still stands apart from FFXI, but I guess we'll see if that's still the case after the inclusion of the job system and a few other major updates.
