People Need to Start Respecting Healers More

Tank>Healer>DPS is usually my commendation order if everyone is playing equally.

I've had to many friends and FC members get discouraged from tanking just because of the people they run into when doing dungeons. There is a big reason there's a lack of tanks and that's due to the role being incredibly stressful thanks to negative player influence.

People need to stop being dicks to new tanks who are still learning. If a commendation at the end cheers them up and motivates them to continue to tank and help others then that's a win in my book.

Hmm... most of my comms are from Monk.
I rarely if ever get any as healer despite helping DPS/Stoneskin/Keeping everyone alive and when I tank they rain in like candy. As for how I comm I tend to reward friendly people or anyone really going above and beyond for their class, sometimes I'm sad I cannot give out more than one but alas you gotta choose.

A tank that doesn't wait all day to pull mobs, chain pulls and also correctly judges by his party how much to pull, is going to get the commendation almost everytime....

I don't really care about commendations enough to "start something" with a random player not on my server. I offered some feedback, you left a rude comment about not reading, and here we are. You pointed fingers at other players, calling them dickwads or people that don't know how to play. These are the parts of your posts I'm talking about.

No offense but I'm entirely disagree. As for me TANK is not that stressful and hard and that order is nonsense, if everyone play equally I will random to be more fair. No one is special here, in some dungeon mechanic just require TANK sit and aggro boss while others are busy doing other stuff and also same with other role.

What I hate the most is Primadonna TANK & HEALER.

Maybe your friend has also more commendations because he went through duties over duties to level up instead of grinding FATEs and leves.

My experience is completely the opposite, my healer friend has 3x more commendations than me who tanks.

I think it's just a matter of more people being lazy leaving an instance asap and skip giving out commendations.

Tanks tanks tanks cuz they r usually the 1st one on my list when i open up the comms window.

I have been farming light / for Zodiac drops on my Whitemage for the last week. On most runs I try to balance solid healing well with DPS and especially in WP normal I have run into some derpy tanks (eg an entire group of Nexus bearers utterly getting lost in the room with patrolling Big Tonberrys. Just how? XD) and generally try to be polite and offer advice if I feel it can be used. I also compliment people if I feel they're doing great. Singing Bards for example are rare, I had an awesome one today, so I told him so.
I sometimes get 1, 2 or even 3 commendations. In the span of the last week I have gotten about somewhere between 100 and 150 commendations from all my farming runs. ._. I'm at about 1430 or so now? Back when I mained Monk I actually still got a lot of them, simply because I try to be a decent person.
On the other hand there also the people that grind my gears and with whom I can clash. Non-singing Bards don't even bother me much. On my top list of people who can just get stabbed by a Tonberry are Tanks who do big pulls but feel using cooldowns are beneath them and therefore never use them and Blackmages / Summoners who see me not healing immediately the 100 hp damage they took (aside from the fact that I keep everyone perfectly alive and safe) and start breaking out the Physicks. THESE people should respect their healers. Tanks we are not here to carry you through and it involves no effort to pop a buff if you pull 4 packs of mobs and Casters, it's cute you try that but I finish casting my Cure and switch back into Cleric stance before you even finish Physick and pick your rotation back up. *rant over* <_<

I do the work of 4 healers in WoD since I'm always raising the other parties and healing both my party and the MT and I am still sitting below 2k comms. It's not the lack of comms that bothers me though, it's the other people who get mad at me saying I'm a terrible healer when I'm babysitting the other parties.

Well for starters, I feel that in general a lot of people just don't do commendations either because they feel people don't deserve them or they just can't be bothered to do them, doesn't make it right or even really wrong but it is what it is.

As for tanks getting comms a lot, that is just one side of the coin. Tanks both tend to get the comms when things go well or they tend to get the crap if anything goes wrong. They get the praise as well as the blame because of the player expectations heaped on the role's shoulders for better or worse.

As for me, I give it to whoever I feel did a good enough job to make me take notice, whether that is another tank, a healer or a dps. If healers keep my HP up and relatively stable while managing to help dps and stance dance, you'll probably get a comm from me.

I feel like healer shows their worth the most when the party isn't doing well. When people start messing up taking unnecessary hits, that's when you can actually flex your muscle as a healer. If the party is completely competent and avoids the avoidable, the healer's skills aren't exactly stressed (and thus hard for the group to justify a commendation).

And the party members that don't have the sense to not be in the bad, more often than not, don't have the sense to appreciate the healer that is picking up the slack.

Healers still get more than dps though. There are less healers, thus easier to notice the efforts of one.

Do I get more comms on tank than healer? Yes, and its easy to see why. Good tanks are damn rare even in the easiest of content (heck, even somewhat competent tanks are uncommon. I know several good tanks who outright refuse to go into DF as a tank due to the abuse many people, healers especially, give them, which just makes the problem worse). Generally, people are just thankful they got a tank that kept hate and was able to clear the dungeon with minimal issues. Flip side is, anything goes wrong, its automatically the tank's fault...which leads back to why tanks are rare in the DF
Healers, on the other hand, are much more common, and if they want comms they do have to go above and beyond. That doesn't just mean DPSing (may get a tank vote, IF the tank never got dangerously low or felt they were in trouble due to healer DPS) but helping in party chat, healing the DPS if they get hurt, knowing not to use anything that affects the tank during a pull, etc.

This is a HUGE reason why people dislike tanking in this game. At launch of 2.0 I began as a Warrior (well Marauder but you get the idea) and even then it was a mess. My MMO background is tanking but tanking on here was a culture shock to me so I had to get used to the notion of actually having to dodge and lower HP pool. Even still the worst of it was the some of the player base encounters in dungeons due to either a simple and easily recovered from mistake or dps getting carried away before I had a good hold on mobs or boss. Snap aggro was a foreign term to me I admit because, once again, it's not something I was accustomed to dealing with. Of course at the time commendations weren't a thing but a little kindness does go a long way. It is the same with any other role.

If you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem. Can't rant about lack of tanks if you run them off because they don't meet your criteria right out of the gate. Same goes for healers. People got to learn at their own pace otherwise they'll screw up every time.

Back on topic some what. I was doing relic books for White Mage and had some low level dungeon that I can't recall but the tank was as green as new leaves in spring. Gladiator to be precise. I coached him through as best I could as the others couldn't be bothered to type it seemed. At the end of the dungeon he apologized for the slowness of the run and the mess ups and I simply told him to practice as that is the only way to get the feel for the role, dungeons, etc., and to not let people get under his skin. I gave him my commendation because for being new he at least tried and was willing to learn. Like to think he is still a tank or hope so at least. People can be asinine toward new people and it drives me nuts.

Honestly I get more comms while being a bard then when I heal.

Well, if a healer does a good job, do we notice? I mean, we aren't dead, sure, but were we really taking a lot of damage to begin with? Now a good tank will stand out because content is cleared without dps and healers getting smacked by enemies every 5 seconds. I know the tank is decent, but I might not even notice the healer.

Everyone is happy with a decent tank, but the group has to really mess up for a decent healer to show what they've got.

Now on those rare moments when you get all 7 commendations from one trial roulette? Yeah, those are healer moments.

Maybe your friend has had just better luck with people? I've had plenty of dungeon runs where people run out before I can commend anyone.

I only commendate healers that DPS+heal.

In this game we can be all class yet something like this still get argued. If one character one class for sure can be accepted. I love to do all class instead sticking with just one role. For those who do all class know the difficulty for each role and their never assume that one role is special and others are don't. Maybe some of you guys don't want to play other class and just stick with one role.

You joke. As tank and more recently healer main, I notice everything a DPS do. That Ballad that pops up between trash pulls? That Monk who actually are trying to use of positional attacks even if the tank isn't good enough to keep mobs in position? Or that Black Mage who will always leave a mob at 5% unfinished and turn to the next mob early? Or that Ninja who's having a 5 second GCD and think no one notices?

Stuff like this is more likely due to a party of 7 queueing for a duty and you just so happen to be the 8th person it picked up (meaning you are the only person any of them could have commended anyway)... but yeah, it's still nice to see anyway :p

And the rest of the party are buddies with the dead healer and you get zero even though you're the only one eligible to receive commendations. ;-)

I think the most memorable moment of getting comms was in a lower lvl dungeon, I think Halatali or something in that range when I went as BLM. I was 2-3 shotting every mob and I ended up getting all 3 comms :)

It's all about standing out and making an impression, healers notice other healers though, so I tend to get/give comms to/from other healers in raid settings.

I usually commend the healer if I see him DPS while keeping the party alive - which is to say, almost never because 9/10 healers like to stand around and do nothing.

This, this many times. I hardly give commendations anymore unless someone really impresses me with a good trick, just because I'm too lazy to click the buttons. SE should add a challenge log entry that rewards you after giving so many commendations (maybe a "commend 10 people" challenge with a "+5 commendation points" reward?).

Or maybe change it into a "non-commendation system" where at the end of a duty you select the players you do NOT want to get a point, while the unselected ones do. But that'd be a punishing system and while sometimes I'd really like to make a player understand he did not do good, I'm pretty sure SE would not approve of it.

There already is one. 'Vote 5 times in Player Commendation' gives you 1000 gil and 10% of whatever XP total is needed for your next level.

Yes, but this works only for when you're leveling (1000 gil really isn't worth the hassle of 15 clicks for most of people). I still think the reward should be commendations points instead of gil, much like how the reward for chocobo companion challenges is chocobo exp, and pvp challenges, wolf marks.

Idk, I started playing quite recently and from 1-50 as SMN/SCH I got over 300 coms as well. But that's not because I'm a healer, I get these same coms as a THM and DRG as well. It has nothing to do with the healing role, it's more about the way you help your team above their expectations. As a healer everyone expects you for at least... heal. You're doing your job. You queued for that, you wanted that and that's it. As well as the dps and the tank.

And personally I think that compared to the WHM, the SCH doesn't bring the "I did all that" feeling because of Eos/Selene. A healer that can save a whole team in the blink of an eye smashing buttons like crazy when everyone's about to die and survive is THE guy. But when you do that as a WHM it seems more com worthy than doing the same thing with a pet to cover you up. I tend to always give coms to the healer, but if I see that anyone on the team surpassed my expectations, sorry healer, no coms for you. Latelly I've been giving lots and lots of coms to tanks and DPS also.

You get faster queues than anyone else, you're the "we need you" of every team... Isn't that a good reward already?

huh? I think tanks & healers are equal, if you're talking about the chances to get commendations.

I've got so many commends, sometimes 3 coms from 4 man dungeon speedrun.

do holy spams and keep their health near 100% all the time.

remember this: don't leave them in their critical state too long. even if you can heal them before they die, they'll think that "this healer sucks" anyway.

esuna-ing them too late isn't good too, especially paralyze and heavy. people are not impressed for your raise either. you better don't have to raise anyone. even if they died because of their own fault they'll think that "good healer should be able to save my life even though I suck".

I think damage dealers have way less chances to get commendations. even if you do very high damages and top the enmity list, most of the party members wouldn't give a shit.

I regularly play PLD, NIN, WHM, and BRD and I receive commendations about equally across all of them. It's as other people have said, stand out and you get commendations. Tanks that pull appropriately and use cooldowns properly will receive commendations. DPS that absolutely melt everything faster than the average pug does will receive commendations. Healers that can stance dance properly while keeping everyone safe will receive commendations. Bards that play songs will rece--who am I kidding, bards don't play songs.

I tend to give mine to a healer in a 4 man , as I have said in the past, I usually think they deserve it, especially with large pulls. In an 8 man I always give to another dps. On the rare occasion I play healer, I give to dps , never the tanks.

Mind you the truly deciding factor is if said healer or dps is pleasant....if anyone is rude to another or cant bother to reply to a "hello" then no one gets it no matter how perfect they may play.

Basic human decency > all, 100% of the time.

I usually just give my commendations to whoever impresses me, and goes out of their way to play their class well.
Otherwise it's just whoever's name I like most > first person on the list.

I feel that would rather defeat the point, since commendations are there to encourage players to play well and support their team. You don't commend the player who was abusive or rude throughout, you commend the team mate who sat quietly and calmly through the whole ordeal.

I am not entirely convinced that tanks get more commendations than healers either. Since working on my Nexus light (effectively 'locked in' to tanking role ever since) there hasn't been a significant change in the amount of commendations I receive. If anything, I actually get fewer now than I did as a White Mage. Perhaps it's a reflection on me, but it seems unlikely since runs are still generally smooth.

DPS seems to be the role which rarely receives commendations. I confess that I haven't often given them to DPS myself. It's much harder to spot a good DPS than a good tank or healer. If either DPS is slacking in their job, it's not immediately clear which one so many times I've seen them all get the blame for low damage. A poor tank or healer is noticed immediately by a team too, so they're roles you really need to focus on to do well at, which is why they earn more commendations than others I feel.

Are you so rich you can't click a few times for money? I feel sorry for you. And while it would be nice if some of the challenge rewards gave more appropriate rewards, commendations are something that should ONLY mean that another human being thought you were alright. That would literally be like receiving free votes in an election, because you voted for someone else.

Ignoring the unnecessary personal attack that you threw me at the beginning of your post while I was talking of something a lot of people do (and yes, 1k really isn't so much to me anymore. I guess I'm that lucky to have quickest ways to make more than that much in less than five dungeon runs), isn't commending people something that itself makes you an "okay" person who could deserve a commendation from the game itself? I didn't suggest a 1:1 scale, but getting 5 commendations points for commending 10 other players would help a lot of those DPSs or other people who don't get many commendations themselves. And since we're talking about the challenge log, something with a weekly reset, getting 5 comm. points from the game a week instead that from other players is not that game breaking to me.

With that being said, it was just a suggestion to incentivate people to do give commendations. I can't think what else would, but 1000 gil a week definitely isn't it to me. I guess I'll start giving commendations again when I have a job to level again because the exp reward at least IS nice >.>
