New jobs do not start at level 1

I think main idea of classes is cross class skills.. I think it is pretty good idea you can use same abilities with different jobs and there not need 2 be same abilities for every job with different name like scholar do not need their own cleric stance and warrior do not need own provoke with different ability name like how esuna and leeches are or cure and physick are.

I doubt the new jobs will be level 30 when unlocked. They did this in FFXI with advanced job where you had to have say WHM to 30 to unlock level 1 smn.

But I think you might be right in so much as that you just need to be lvl 30 in one class to accept the quest to unlock these new jobs, and then you probably start from lvl 1 when you equip the weapon.

This is how Jobs should have worked all along IMO. (its time for a job/class revamp again Yoshi dearest)

Its quite viable to have the new jobs start from level 30 as it fits in with the existing Job but without the base class to start with. Remember we already have this with SCH which starts at level 30 but atm is tied to the base arcanist class. Arcanist is really the base job of SMN and SCH plays quite different from SCH at the same level since its healing based. Tbh I wouldnt mind if they decoupled SCH from ACN further down the line and replaced it with its own unique skillset at the very least to end the dependancy on the shared stats with SMN but without having to start again at lvl1.

As for unlocking the new jobs they could say you need certain CLASSES at certain levels to unlock them like to say to unlock DRK, AST and MCH it could be say lvl30 Glad/Maur for DRK, lvl30 arc/conj for AST and lvl30 arc for machinist. This would mean those Jobs could be continuations of those classes but at the same time therye not tied to the base stats and abilities of those classes like the way SCH was.

I agree with you. So tihs means we need any class at level 30 like we had to get any class at lv 10 for rogue. Makes sense. But the article says not sure what job the job will be. so that could mean anyl evel from 1-30.

What im confused is that thought if u only brought heavensword u wouldnt have access to the other jobs and classes only the 3 new jobs. am I wrong?

Umm... yes, actually, you would be wrong given you need a Job to unlock the new Jobs, but to have a Job in the first place you need to have leveled a class to 30 and a subclass to 15. As such, given a lack of any other information, the new Jobs will be tied to the classes that govern the Jobs that unlock them. It also means chances are high you won't be starting in the Ishgardian ghettos.

I was under the impression that you would need "any class" at a certain level then do quests.

The idea of "master jobs" or "second tier jobs" as presented by Yoshida back before 2.0 never came into reality

it doesnt mean someone starts the game at level 30. they have to pick one of the starting classes we have now at character creation, level that class/job to 30 and then they can undertake the dark knight quest (for example) It's no different than doing gladiator to 30 and becoming a paladin, only, drk doesnt have a root class.

Sounds reasonable just as long they do not keep the level the 3 new jobs start with too high.

While most would just spam 1,2,3 for killing things when rushing the leveling process, it still requires time for people to properly grasp the concept on how a Job works to their full potential so making them jump too soon into high level content would affect a players efficiency with the new Jobs if they don't spend enough time practicing it and learning which skill is best for which situation.

However, if level 30 then we may have to expect them having the same restrictions for new players that a new character must beat Titan first before they can obtain any of the new Jobs which is the current requirement to access Jobs in 2.X era for new characters.

Good. I didn't want the game under the yoke of the class system forever. An expansion is the perfect time to move on.

I vote if they do this at the very LEAST! Make us level 15 or 30, but 15 would be a good start.
I dislike the grind to 15 in all honesty.
The newbie dungeons are a great start...30 is even better though, more skills to use than just like 2 lol
and still easy to follow up.

Plus you're really learning your class at 15, when dungeons unlock and stuff. Might as well

In all honesty 1-15 is so quick if you spam fates, leves and your hunting log.

Sounds similar to the Advanced Jobs from Final Fantasy XI that required level 30 to unlock.

So would u guys recommend getting a tank class to level 30 to then become a DARK knight or any class at level 30 would be fine. thinking of going paladin as well. but i don't know if i want to play as two tanks

The whole sentence used is pure conjecture on the part of the article's writer. The only thing confirmed is that you can't unlock them right from the get go if you are a brand new player to the game, which only make sense since you wouldn't be diving into Heavensward content right away if you are brand new.

I feel the writer of the article may have misunderstood some sayings and misinterpreted them.

I see this merely as you will need an existing job to reach level 30 as a requirement before the new jobs quests can be started. I can't not see the new jobs starting at level 1. I certainly hope they do start at level 1 and I see no good reason why they shouldn't. If you don't want to invest time into playing this game and leveling up, then I hate to break it to you but MMOs in general are not the games you should be playing. Quit trying to change my genre to something it's not. WoW's done about as much damage to the genre as it has actually improved aspects of it.

So frustrating. Leveling up already doesn't take that much time, why shorten the experience even further when it's not needed?

I'm just now getting around to leveling up my ninja, though I generally just do low level roulette, fates and levequests. On days I work, low level roulette is all I do on it, if I even do that. So I've been leveling it fairly casually for the last 2 weeks, I'm level 38. Though if I really wanted to grind it out quickly I could have been level 50 within 5 days or so of when I unlocked Rogue. I'll probably be 44/45 within a week leveling that job casually and kinda slowly. This keeps me from getting burnt out on leveling too.

You can see my sig to see I've leveled quit of bit of jobs (all after 2.0), most of my DoM/DoW I leveled up a year ago or longer. My tank jobs I just relatively recently within the past few months had leveled, and now I'm getting around to Ninja. (I don't know when I'll get around to Arc/Brd)

I certainly hope SE doesn't do something stupid like WoW's level boost. Come on, SE, you're better than that.

Give me level 1 Dark Knight, Machinist and Astrologian. I'll level them from 1 and learn what each skill does and how they work any day vs. being handed a level 30+ job and just trying to figure that crap out all at once.

I would KILL for something like this in the game. No way do I want to level 1 or 2 new classes from 1-60 or even 30-60. And yeah leveling isn't hard, but it's boring as hell. The complaint about people not knowing what their doing I don't really agree with. Bad players will be bad with those classes, but people that know what they're doing will be fine with them. Same as now. The whole "leveling helps you learn your character" thing is a myth honestly.

Don't really see the problem with level boost when it doesn't get you to level cap (which was 100 when it boosted to 90). When WoW did it, it was more to get new players into current expansion content if they were invited in by friends. They even had a level 90 starting area and locked your skills with the game slowly introducing it. I mean you can argue that you're paying money to not play the game, but not everyone likes the ideal of leveling 1-100 all over again for an alt or if they have to make a new toon on another server

That being said though, starting at a level other than 1 can work if it still follows the same concept of slowly introducing the class, like unlocking one ability at a time through mandatory/story quests. My friend that went to PAX for shiva (he never played FFXIV) immediately got overwhelmed by the amount of abilities a bard had, that's something you want to avoid if you're level skipping on creation.

And just to throw it out, there are people who play levels 1-50 normally and still don't know how to play their class. I see melee/tanks other than monks (because they're locked behind the stances) not grasping the mechanic of comboing their abilities and doing 100 potency attacks. Wouldn't be any more different than a player starting at level 50 and not understanding their class imo.

People like you have no clue... It took me a week with 6 hours a day to level from 1 to 50 for ninja, doing dungeons and FATEs/leves in between... And I think I did it fairly quickly...

Mastered? No. Though it also depends on your meaning of "Mastered". To me, that's understanding what stats are good for your class, the optimial rotations, cooldown management and all of that.

Understanding of the class mechanics is a different thing, such as BLM's astral/umbral shifts or comboing in general. It's imo the difference between "knowing" and "mastering", while it also seperates people who do and don't know their class. If you can get the latter down just fine even with a level jump, I don't see the problem with it.

Going back to WoW, the deathnkgiht starting area (when you were lvl 55) did a good job of getting players caught up to speed for lvl 60 content when they left the starting area (aside from the fact they needed a lvl 55 character anyway). It slowly introduced talent points and skills as they progressed through their main scenario. It's also the case for the lvl 90 starting area for players who boosted since they got rid of a lot of spell clutter/button bloating. As if the in game prompt tutorials (for both FFXIV and WoW) wasn't enough to steer you straight on grasping the basic mechanics of the class you're playing.

I'm curious to see how this evolves.

I am personally of opinion the new jobs should begin at level 1. The fact that you may need to have a level 30 class and complete a job quest to unlock a level 1 job isn't a stretch of the imagination. As some posters have mentioned, there's a precedent for that already in FFXI and thus wouldn't be completely out of the blue to do something like that.

With that being said, I wouldn't be surprised if the new jobs were in fact, boosted to level 30. When SCH / SMN was first introduced, the goal was to have one base class furnish the roles of two separate jobs. This has led to a huge balancing issue with SMN/SCH and trying to form any job identity has been difficult, to say the least. So, instead of trying to make two jobs under one class, why not make the new job "new", so it's easier to balance and identify with. The new level 30 job would have a base skill set unlocked that would be very similar to the class they were based on and these skills would probably be renamed/slightly modified to suit the new job. All new post 30+ skills/spells/abilities/traits learned would then be fleshing out those abilities unique to the new job, thus allowing for more diversity while maintaining the same core base that a class would offer. Thus, now we have (loosely) two jobs being furnished by the same class, but still treated as two separate identities so it's easier to balance.

It's a little far fetched in my mind, but I could see it being a legitimate reason too.

I don't think actual leveling is the main problem here. It's having to level other classes to play the job you really want.

Another thing that comes with this is a complete imbalance: "So you want to be a bard? Good luck, level lancer to 34 too". "So you want to be a warrior? Okay, gladiator to 22 will suffice". "So you want to be a summoner? Here you go, take scholar too".

It's not game breaking at this moment. It is when level 40 + abilities become mandatory. SE is doing a great job with this game. I just think they need to decide how to move from here in regards to the current class/job system. Let's be honest, it's a 1.0 remnant..

That seems to be what people are having a problem with. And that seems, to me at least, to be exactly what's going to happen. Dark Knight will either have Paladin or Warrior as it's base Job, most likely Warrior judging from the idle pose, so as they 'level' Dark Knight (assuming they aren't 50 in the base Job's class already) they will also be leveling the class of the base Job. It sounds convoluted, kind of feels that way too, but it's not that hard to understand.

levelling is actually the boring 10% until you can have all your skills and rotations down the road. There is literally no point in the levelling process in FFxiv else than giving you more time to insert each skill in the rotation.

It has been said before, but FFxiv's focus is end game (ie, max level), not levelling

Because most modern MMOs are focused on end game content, it only makes sense that many would want to just jump to the fun.

Very few people enjoy the levelling process, I'm just playing devils advocate here, not necessarily something I agree with.

MMO's are very different now to what they used to be and continuously changing to appease the masses.

I'm guessing it'll be sort-of secondary jobs for other classes. They're probably "fixing" the attribure point allotment problem by making the jobs use one class' abilities up to level 30 and get their own unique abilities for the 30-60 levels. For example, Dark Knight won't be getting Marauder's abilities starting from level 31.

Edit: Forgot to mention I'm guessing they'll start from level 30.

Not really a fan, just supports that they have no plans to flesh out world content and are focused soley on the endgame grind. I'll wait for more information but if the developers are reading...I'm not a supporter of this.

I don't know which option would be the worst. If you don't enjoy end game, you're not likely to enjoy levelling in dungeon, leaving the brainless FATEs (I do not pay to bash 3 keys. there are good free rythm games for that) or the boring leves (no difficulty at all, redundants, etc...)

Just because you might not like it doesn't mean they aren't planning things out.

The whole ROG/THF thing was and is one of the dumbest things for people to be angry about. It's like the difference between someone calling a bow wielder either "Bowmaster", "Ranger", or "Archer". There's literally no play style difference, it's just the name that changes. People mad that it wasn't called thief is one of the most puzzling things. I've played a few FF games, and it doesn't have all of the functionality of THF, but it has some key things that allows you to appreciate that it might as well be called THF at the class level. They couldn't do it, due to lore. They actually care about their game's story being at least a little cohesive. Get over it.

I don't remember them saying anything about classes having the explicit use of solo-play. I do remember them saying that they were viable for it, but they wanted Job's to be the only thing viable for end-game. Rightfully so, too. Why would you want to advance into a stronger character, and then revert to the lower level, less powerful skill set? This game doesn't offer enough customization (yet) to have classes be interesting in end-game scenarios anyway. You'd sacrifice really potent character assets just to access a few more watered down cross-classes? They thought that out way more than you're giving credit for.

I don't think they ever said that they wanted multiple Job branches, either. They wanted to try something new, and whether or not it was worthy of being called (good) innovation is up to you. This is the only one I can't really defend, because they probably just had the idea and rolled with it, but even then, why is that a bad thing?

And new Jobs not having base classes is going to be great. Something that I'm sure they thought out, and the game will benefit from.
