Don't get a single rmt tell probably because I turn /tell off to notice any lol.
Not getting many on my end on Cactuar.. maybe 1 or 2 in a multiple hour session. I don't even bother blocking them anymore because it seems like they stop after about 2 tells (maybe that's part of the spam filter).
I've personally seen an increase in RMT tells lately. I went from getting maybe 1 tell a day / every third day to about 2-3 tells per hour.
I'm wondering if they're trying to target particular servers due to higher population, etc and focusing their efforts in that direction. I also noticed that I got more RMT tells while on a job pre-40 versus when I'm on my WHM / SCH / 50 jobs.
RMT tells are getting insane on Lamia right now, last night I got hit about 25 times in 3 hours, I suspect they're ramping up for the holidays with the expectation that people will be getting money for Christmas
Haven't gotten any RMT tells in weeks now.
Well that would make sense why some servers are not seeing them.. They are locked for new accounts. It explains why on my server they increased lately so much and were almost gone for a while.
Our server was locked for a while for new accounts and recently open up for new accounts ... I get one about every 5 minutes now.
I get a few a night on Hyperion. I don't usually get multiple tells from the same person though, so hopefully that means they're getting banned fairly quickly.
i was online all day yesterday (mostly afk while binge watching a TV series) and barely saw any RMT messages.
Filters? Hahaha. The only "filter" is a block on identical tells, which doesn't kick in if 3 characters of the tell are different. RMT figured that out DAY ONE, which is why you get a random 3 characters at the end of all the tells. The fact that they can't, or won't, make a workable filter that actually hinders RMT tells IN THE SLIGHTEST speaks volumes. You'd think, at a minimum, they could catch players sending 100s or 1000s of "similar" tells in the course of an hour, and ban them. But no, I only see 1-2 (Deleted) in my blist when I check every couple weeks, whereas I guarantee you I've blisted way more than that in the same time frame.
Brynhildr is really bad at the moment, especially at night. I got spammed 10 times in three minutes.
1) add in ability to block tells/ friend request from anyone not on friends list, free company or linkshells.
2) ability to block tells / friend requests in for every 10 levels .. example = block tells/friend requests from players that are level 1-10 . Block tells /friend request from people People lvl11- lvl20 , lvl21 - 30, etc
THIS WOULD CUT DOWN 100% OF THE RMT SPAM INSTANTLY .
No reason why shouldn't have in game tools to choose who can and can't send us tells and friend invites.
Over the weekend on Famfrit I had at least 10 friend invites followed by RMT SPAM from the same person. Been on 2 hours today and already had 5 RMT SPAM tells.
So many easy things they could Add into the game to Give us multiple ways to never get spam. But all we have is ignore and blacklist. Blacklist is for people you on your server you want to place there for specific reasons. It's not suppose to be filled with 200 RMT spammers
When SE bans an account, they do not delete the character. Anyone that you see on your list who is (Deleted) is someone that SE FAILED to ban before the RMT managed to delete that character themselves. Every RMT on your B-list, except for possibly the most recent entries, has been banned - remove them from your list, and you won't hear a peep out of them.
As for catching people sending multiple tells, I think you're HUGELY underestimating how pervasive RMT is. They don't have a few characters sending hundreds of tells per day. They have hundreds of characters sending a few tells per day. It is very difficult to make any kind of automated system that will be able to seperate RMT from regular players (is this guy spamming shout an RMT? Or is he advertising a Free Company?), so putting banning ability in the hands of an automated system is very dangerous.
It's not a simple problem with a simple solution. Pretty much any proposal I've seen has a cost. Don't allow people under level 15 to send /tells? Not only does this alienate new players, but it's hardly even a speed bump for RMT given how little time it takes to level to 15. Auto-ban anyone who gets blacklisted by enough people in a short space of time? Opens the door wide for Free Companies and Linkshells to victimize someone they don't like. Auto-ban anyone who spams the same /shout over and over? Legit players who advertise go up in flames while RMT carefully rotate their programmed messages to avoid the same fate. Hire enough people to monitor chats across all servers and ban folks the moment RMT becomes obvious? If you think we're paying a lot for our subscription now, just wait until we start footing the salaries for the hundreds of new salaries we'd need to pay for...
Getting at least 4-5 a day on Couerl. :\ Before hand was maybe 1-2 a day, for a while.
I've started to automatically feel annoyed when ever I hear the PM sound.
/blist <r>. it doesnt stop the problem, but its faster blisting.
Wouldn't say excessive, but in the last few days I did start to receive them again. Didn't even realise it until then, but there'd been quite a nice long period when I got none at all. But yeah, they started up again recently.
Posting again because fml I got afk this morning for 15mins, and came back to no less than 7 RMT tells, rest of the day been the same. This is getting out of hand and it's no better with bots, just spotted 8blms in Ul'dah and MD. Ultros is literally assaulted by those, and they are not even hiding. It's at a point it's getting depressing to see how easy it is to cheat. Time to start the forever busy status.

Again log in this morning, not even 5 minutes got 6 RMT /tells. They are definitely in full force on adamantoise. Some are really creative now in their tells. Back to cleaning blist every morning and sending large reports to SE on a slim hope they might do something.
Yeah, it is going insane! I have like 20 tells within 1 hr on lamia
I don't get how spamming will make people to do RMT. I think these bots are just waste of resources. The amount of population on the server won't turn everyone into RMT buyer, end up more blocking and reports. Ban accounts.
I put Tell on different tab, and I never see them again. Clean chat!
They are getting so much for me that my Blacklist is almost maxed out. But don't ask SE to do anything about it. From personal experience and contrary to what they want you to believe, they condone what those people do.
Yes, RMT tells on Admantoise have gotten much more aggressive and frequent in the last couple of weeks. I now blist 5 or so a day. I haven't bothered reporting any for months though, since SE seems to not care much about them or bots (after repeatedly reporting bot farms and seeing no action).
They should stop with the 14 day free trail. It's only being abused by those RMT spammers. By the time there being banned after reports, they already have 10 times as much new accounts made with BOT programs. You want to kill those RMT scams? Don't give them the FREE opportunity!!!!
I always thought that there should be an option where tells are restricted by distance unless it's between friends/fc/ls. I never really had to make a /tell for someone I didn't already know unless that person someone just passed me by, usually to ask them what they're wearing and where they got it from, or something. 25 yalm range maybe?
Another seasonal lolthread about rmt, asking restrictions and all. RMT stops when idiots will stop to buy from them.
I wonder if any of this has anything to do with the lag lately. I hardly ever get lag, considering I live in the middle of nowhere, its very rare. In the past week I've probably added about 75 to my blacklist, some the people delete the accounts, but they just get filled right back up. Heck I had one get deleted before I could even blacklist them. The report function needs some improvement. If I were to report them all, thats all I would be doing in game.
I know I could put up a busy signal but then I would get nothing, but I'll help people with crafting and melds when they shout out, doing my good deeds for the day.
Came across a bot farming shards in Thanalan. I assume it was as he was level 45 with all level 10 or lower gear, no GC or FC usually something you see with a bot.
Now it seems that these gil sellers get it from doing this sort of stuff, here is something that I would suggest, now it would be a pain for some but it would severely hinder their efforts. Not sure how difficult it would be to add, but how about a bot check, like some websites have to prevent this, like ticket sites. You have to enter a word or do a simple math problem in order to proceed.
So say after 61 shards are consecutively gather an on screen prompt comes up, halting the character until the proper response is given. I know it sounds sucky, but so do cheaters. Not sure how many real people actually farm tons of shards. I did when I started crafting, but I would have no issue doing this. When you cut off an invading army's supply chain their advance is halted, this needs to be done to atleast slow it down. They need to go to the source not the frontline. SE account bans only temporarily slow it down. Go to the source, its the only way.
Of course though whats to stop them say at 60 and just restart again? Hmmm I don't know. Maybe a timer as to when you could restart, but then that would really make the legit people angry. Then on the other hand if people would just stop buying It would also end, but that won't happen, people want easy way to the top.
Or a funner way, make automatic program control detectable, and allow them to die by the hands of another adventurer. Bot hunting parties, sounds fun. Allow us to loot the bodies too, supply cut off.
No increase, it's been pretty consistent really. I blacklist them almost on reaction now, I don't even have to think about it. It's just something you'll have to deal with. It could be far, FAR worse than it is now, luckly they're confined to tells in this game.
You have to understand, the people who are doing this are running a hustle. Any blocks SE implements to stop them will be overcome, that's almost a guarantee. Just delete them in waves and ban the idiots who entertain them.
If they had a permanent fix every mmo that had this issue they would have already implemented it and be done with rmt spam, unfortunately their isn't a simple fix without it effecting of others legit players who don't spam in tells or shouts. They would have to restrict almost every word that would be related to selling/buying in that regard that allot of words that legit players use in common conversations not even related to selling or buying if you think about it. It would restrict us from actually talking because I can't use XXX word and doesn't get sent or seen by you or friend it would be the equivalent of not being able to send a tell to someone while in a dungeon or out of dungeon.
Faerie is horrible with the RMT /tells. I blacklist 5-10 a hour. Unfortunately for the time being the only simple solution is /busy. I just let members of my FC know that I'm not actually busy and if the need me just get a hold of me in /FC.
