What of people who don't have children to rely on?

It's an imperfect system, but it's better than nothing. I'll take it over sitting in queue for 30+ minutes watching as the Player Withdrawn message spams my chat log. And it's not just ST that this would happen it, but ALL dungeons in DF.
As DPS, it's annoying to sit there in DF, for at least double the average wait time listed, and frequently getting "Player has withdrawn from duty." over and over and over and over again. And, from my observation, it's frequently the tanks withdrawing in an attempt to "fish" for insta-queues and dungeons where they're on a specific boss.
Get a lalafell to train
Hadn't thought of training my kids or pet yet, Instead I prefer to play on my ps4 over my pc, reason being is that the queue pop sound comes through on the ps4 controller so if i need to step away for a sec I just take it with me. I have never missed a queue playing on my ps4.
I don't think it prioritizes in progress runs over new runs currently. I've had friends that lose a player ask me to join, only to have me end up in a brand new run. I don't think an in progress only feature would fix anything, though. If anything it would make the queue worse because the vast majority of people would want to JIP rather than start a new run. All we'd see is threads complaining about how JIP queue is broken and/or has incredibly long wait times. You can't join an in progress run if nobody ever starts them from the beginning...
It basically queries the current dungeons and finds the ones that has some progress based on if say x boss is dead or past a certain barrier (like trash pulls in CT/ST etc.) Basically an "In progress only" being separate from new instances would require a different interface which is something they'd likely do come the expansion if anything.

I feel this video is relevant to this discussion!
There's something I learned last month that might be interesting to know. Say you queue for expert roulette, and you get Sastasha HM. Let's say the healer drops because they hate the dungeon. If you have a healer in your FC queue for Sastasha HM in progress, they won't get your group. If, however, they queue for Expert Roulette join in progress, they might get you. Queues for specific dungeons are apparently different from roulette queues.
This is bad as a dps, sometimes i go to the wc and the window pops when im not there, always as a dps, when i go pld or whm doesnt happen
Turn up the volume. Pinch it off.
I admit, I'll miss the old game of queuing and releasing five or six times before starting a dungeon (not even fishing for in-progress, but to ensure my party is riled up and annoyed before I get in there), but this makes it less painful to play as DPS.
And ferchissakes, people. Don't queue until you are sure yer ready to go.
A LOT of my friends missed the notice about this. Every time someone asks me to party them I have to tell them about the party-wide withdraw strikes, because I don't trust that they know about it. I don't care about the solo withdraw/timeout penalty though. I don't see how the party-wide one encourages group play with strangers. Not only can strangers troll you this way, but they can also do it by mistake because of being uniformed. You have to be super paranoid and make sure every random person and their mother knows about the penalty or risk getting a lockout. lol
Or you could just ask, "Is everyone ready to go before I queue us up?" before hitting the queue button. I always did that as a courtesy anyway. And if someone doesn't answer, that means it's a no.
This system is broken. I'm all for penalties for people maliciously withdrawing, but the way this was implemented is very discouraging for pretty much anybody.
The strike period should reset every 6 hours at max, not 24 hours for one thing. In the last few days I've received a 30 min lockout 3 times, usually because I'll queue for something and a friend will be like "I want to come too!" the moment after I press the button. I cancel and get locked out.
Now I got locked out for going out of window for no more than 60 seconds. Come back, 30 minute wait. I go and help a friend with something during the 30 mins, then queue back up with him to finally get this stupid trial done. He goes afk for a minute, queue pops, he doesn't click, and I am the one who is locked out for an additional 30 minutes and can't do ANY trial because he didn't click the button.
Really hope this system gets fixed lol.
Whiners gonna whine. System is fine as-is. Make sure your party is ready when you sign up, it's really not difficult.
It's been great to run ST without 15+ withdrawals before a single run.
My only issue with the system is what if you accidentally queue for the wrong duty? It happens! I feel like if you withdraw within like 10 seconds of registering for duty, it shouldn't count as a strike. Other than that, I feel the system is fine. Me and my friends were running dungeons yesterday and ended up getting locked out because we suffered the aforementioned "wrong duty" syndrome... and the third time, I had go AFK longer than expected.
We all just did something else instead; it's not really a big deal.
Anything that smites the waves of idiots fishing for ques is worthwhile compared to a few innocents getting run over in the process. You get three strikes, if you have 3 accidents a day, that's your own fault.
A slap across the face, in the long term, isn't going to cause any lasting damage, but one delivered without reason, particularly for something someone else did, and people will rightly get pissed. There is no reason to defend this practice when the solution (punish the offending withdrawer/timeout player only, and on their 3rd strike)is so obvious. Much like a player in a improper ilvl avg, the party will already be unable to enter the duty finder again, until the punished player is removed.
It is about time they did this. For a couple day, it was beautiful how there was no withdraws, but starting on Friday, like 3 days later, people are starting to withdraw more, seems that penalty is not heavy enough and they are happy to blow it off.
You know what is a repeated slap cross the face. How it was before 2.4. You queue ST and you have to click commence 15 times in the next 10 minutes just to get in. And it was like this everytime over and over. That is a multiple slaps and total disrespect to the rest of the player base, taking everyone else for granted and expecting them to be there for you at your beck and call. Enough is enough.
Yeah. This, sorta. I think the withdraw penalty is great, it just shouldn't be party-wide. Only the person who withdrew should get a strike or lockout. If the devs created party-wide penalties because they think parties will abuse withdraws if everyone isn't punished, then the person who withdrew in a party should get automatically locked out instead of a strike....or something.
I have really enjoyed this change, as it has reduced the amount of failed pops. Good job SE, the system seems fair.
I don't much give a damn about your plight when I have friends that are getting locked out for duties they didn't withdraw from. As a DPS that has to go through monstrous wait time for the duty finder in the first place, I have 0 sympathy for your lousy 10 minutes for current content that had no shortage of runners queuing up.
This is a poorly implemented solution that punishes the innocent. It has to change.
I'm not sure I follow what you are complaining about.
"I don't much give"-- I understand you don't care about others.
"friends that are getting locked" -- How are they getting locked out? You said they didn't withdraw from the duty, so how are they getting locked out?
"As a DPS ... monstrous wait time ... 0 sympathy" -- Ok I once again understand you don't care about others.
So I guess my clarification question is how are your "friends" getting locked out.
Exactly... Case in point of the entitled attitude. Everyone else on all the servers are all supposed to be there for your beck an call. I am sure now that you and your friend tripped over it and got a 30 minute lockout, you would not be doing this again. So this is the right way to do things. The collective punishment is fitting and appropriate so that people can not gang up and don't get to try and game the system. This was singularly the most obvious and good QOL fix and probably one of the best things to be released with 2.4.
I am not "gaming" any system! Where did I say *I* ran into the problem? I am seeing the bad results of this across twitter and other social media. The problem is that if and when a lockout does occur, it will guarantee drama and an extra 30 minutes, on top of the usual annoyance of playing a DPS character in df. All that, literally one phone call away. And it needn't even be your phone in a party!
I like the lockout, I think it was a great addition, but guys please stop blindly defending every little thing square enix does, the "forum white knight" job position isn't open yet. I fully support the lockout, but the system still requires some polishing, it's still new and you will see several changes over the time based on player feedback.
What bad results. The whining from all the people that were used to abusing the DF and fishing for god knows what? The results in general has been most pleasant in game. Queue and go on 4 player dungeons almost every time. At most 1 withdrawal from ST or CT. This is solid proof that it is working great.
