They removed the option because it was provided by a third party service that was shut down entirely. Don't lie if you want sympathy.

There is a way around this everyone, order a paypal card, it is a mastercard debit card.
Maybe, the third party removed a prepaid card option, and that was it, SE didn't had to remove the whole lot, but there might be something else.
The third party "Play Span" is up and operational, just one portion of it (the Ultimate Pay Points) shut down, and certainly, not the PayPal system.
As stated before in this same thread, that is for US residents only, so, not an option for many of us.
That's totally within your right to do, but there is an option for you to pay with using paypal you just don't want to because it's more expensive. What you should be asking for more specifically is a paypal option on the mogstation. And really you should have been asking for this 3 months ago when they announced that Ultimate game time cards were going away(it's been on the loadstone front page for that long)
It is more expensive, that's why even though it's indeed an option, it's a bad one for legacy people since there's nothing to gain and everything to lose by paying more, understandably people would not want it. I admit I didn't ask for a Paypal option to be added directly to the Mogstation before, though the OP posted a topic with another person asking for it. The most likely reason more people didn't ask for it in advance is because of this statement in your link.
Which would lead most people to believe they would have worked out something by now, yet nothing happened on the Mogstation, only game cards were added on a separate site that admittedly is still owned by them, but the Mogstation is supposed to be main page to manage ARR subscriptions and purchase game time. You'd think 3 months would be plenty of time to sort out something as important as this but apparently not. Yet again, this game loves throwing around the good old "please look forward to it" or "we'll be looking into it" so the expectations are already subpar.Quote:
In light of this news, we are also working with payment providers to increase the number of payment solutions we can offer.
I'll expand on this as well.
They never said anything about paypal. That's why I never thought to ask for it, because I literally didn't think it would be going away.Quote:
This means these 2 options will no longer be offered as a payment method for purchasing Crysta. The last day to redeem retail Ultimate Game Card codes will be September 29, 2014 and the last day to redeem your UltimatePoints will be October 31, 2014.
Maybe SE should bring back Click&Buy?
Sigh...
First, you don't even know what you're talking about. Second, you're throwing insults?
I guess you never receive this in your email, so I just pasted this here for your reading pleasure:

Another dumb response. Check the forum before making that comment. And if you're not sure, don't comment at all. In case you still have no idea:

Again, please refrain commenting if you're not giving viable solution or too lazy to check if forum has already creating thread discussing this for some time, especially for anything that requires card payment.
as a legacy player, time cards are not a solution for me.
also, i can't sub to my retainers through them.
i'm not in the possession of a debit card.
can you please at least add paypal? or i'm afraid this is where it stops for me.
edit: their store has paypal (even paysafecard) without third party support. why can't this?
Really? I'm outside the US, in Germany... I can pay with all this:

If I were in Portugal (where I'm originally from), I would also get the VISA ELECTRON option on top of all those others (blue arrow).
Also, I can get game cards that cost me 26€ for 2 MONTHS.
Kindly do NOT speak for every player outside of the US, thanks.
For anyone asking why the store has different payment options then the mogstation that is because SE online store is not run by SE it is run by Digital River and even though ultimate time cards are gone I assume Playspan is still handling the other payment methods such as credit cards for mogstation as I can not find any other company time attached.
actually there are still other games using playspan as an option, this choice was made by SE not playspan. ultimatepay is still a payment service like it always has been.
you can't use gametime cards as a payment for entry level last time I checked. did they change that?
the service(UltimatePay/Playspan) was not shut down entirely, it is still in use as a payment system and used by many services

in my opinion the best solution really that would work for a lot of us would be for them to make Square Enix Crysta Cards and put FFXI and FFXIV on them to get them noticed. I honestly don't understand why SE doesn't do this as it would be a better solution for most people including those who are okay with buying the game cards think about it a 3000 crysta would suit most people but they could offer it in multiples of 500 or 1000 and help everyone.
You know capital one will give just about anyone with a pulse a credit card. There's no interest if you pay it off same month, plus card bonuses like points towards free stuff, etc. I use a playstation cc and get a free game with points every couple months, never once paid interest. Learn to manage credit, you'll need it one day for home/car loans.
Looks like our sibling also having hard time with these:

I haven't been able to find a prepaid card that SE accepts the regular way(without ultimate pay as a third party). I live in Canada. Long story short, I can't even buy the online or physical time card. I have to turn to a family member to buy my sub now. lol. It really sucks. I don't know why SE hates Canadian prepaid cards.
Greetings,
We understand the frustration that the removal of the PlaySpan, and by extension PayPal, billing option is having on customers that relied on it for paying for subscription fees or for the optional services like retainers.
We are currently working on implementing a PayPal payment option and we hope to have this up and running soon. In the meantime, if you do encounter errors when attempting to register your credit card, please contact our Support Center for assistance.
Seems to me like a debit card solves most of this. It's your money directly and it carries the convenience of a credit card. On top of that banks are awesome when charges appear that weren't from you and you get reimbursed so even worrying about your money getting stolen isn't a big deal.
Some people just have 1 way they want to do it and they will stubbornly try to do it until the day they die. Regardless of other viable options. It's good to hear square is trying to get paypal back up though.
Logic rarely means anything around here. It will still be SE's fault somehow for many people.
Better late than never.
I guess I can only speak for myself. I did not have a debit card option for crysta purchase once playspan disappeared. Not everyone has the same options. Unless one of these options are debit card but not labeled clearly.

I am not blaming SE for it going away. I know its not their fault. But now that there isnt an in-direct way to pay via paypal then it would be/is nice that they are adding it in, directly.
It's being fixed, there is an official reply. Problem solved. All that's needed now is a "thanks" and to wait for implementation.
If your Interac card has a credit card logo, expiry date and security code then you can register it using the corresponding credit card in that list. If you haven't gotten a new card in a while, it may not yet be usable in this fashion and you'll need to visit the bank to get issued a fresh card. I know I'm thinking about it since mine is one of the original chip cards and I can't even use tap to purchase and it doesn't expire until 2016. my wife had to replace hers due to a faulty chip so hers is a VISA Debit card.
Thanks. I work in customer service so I have seen those debit cards come through. I guess i'm just behind the times, I havent got a new debit card in at least 15 years, I still have the initial card from when I opened my account and it still works. Never lost it or broke it so I havent had to update. lol, maybe it is time, I still dont like the idea of using my bank card as credit card, more sites open up for me to buy stuff and that is dangerous...
Playspan being discontinued will not hurt the game. I for one think they were as bad as click and buy. You can purchase game time cards directly from the SE store now.
Not everyone is stubbornly rejecting the CC options... they flat out can't use them.
For various reason's some transactions are getting rejected, and all they get is a generic 401/406 type error from the system. This has all happened before... go dig through the XI forums about all the issues with Click & Buy a couple years back. Heck.. even before then, when it was all done through POL there were mainstream cards that would still get rejected seemingly for no reason at all. It's a risk you can run into with worldwide CC transactions... not every clearing house is linked to the accepted security standard and such and they get rejected... or it could just be freakish communication errors, who knows.
But the simple point is that for some, the system was flat out refusing to process some people's cards. For them, their more reliable option was to get Crysta through the UP system--be that by UGC card, PayPal, or sling-shotting one of PlaySpan's other payment options. Those people may be left with no recourse for payment until SE gets the new PayPal option in place.
While I appreciate that they are working to bring PayPal back in some fashion... I have to say I am still very disappointed in how SE has been dragging it's feet out on this issue. The retirement of UGC and UP was announced back in the middle of the Summer. Something like mid June or early July, emails went out to everyone directly from Playspan and UGC. They've had a loooong time to work on this issue. And to add insult to injury, they took Ultimate Pay down a month earlier than they implied it would still be available. The UP system is still active until 10/31... SE's own KB article on ths matter even states that it would remain available until then. I have money still in my UP account that I intended to top off my Crysta with after the October billing cycle (stupid $100 Crysta cap prevented me from cashing it all in in September)... but have no way to use it now. So I have to wait for PlaySpan to send me details on how to cash out my balance via a virtual visa account once they get that all set up, then find something to spend it on if I can't use that Visa account to buy Crysta.
Which is true 99% of the time, whether it wants to be accepted or not - Banks are extremely touchy, especially if your IP changes around or you choose to do it through your smart phone instead of computer/vice versa.. Especially in this time of heightened identy theft and recent major security breech of a major bank.
Never had any issues paying with Ultimateplay but I've seen some other people had some trouble with them. Gamecards are fine if you aren't legacy and don't want to buy additional services and just want game time, otherwise you're kinda screwed especially if you have card issues like many others who are fine using their cards still do, at least until now once they finish implementing Paypal directly.
just passing by here because I'm interested in payment methods as it is connected to my RL job...
for those with bank accounts, don't your banks offer help in setting up payments for online transactions? I could not imagine at this time and age a bank that's still "offline". I mean, many banks can provide digital accounts/virtual credit/debit cards, basically they generate a fake but secure card number you can use for online transactions.
not saying it's your fault SE pulled out the payment methods, I'm just curious if indeed there are still banks that lack such service. I hope that's one option for some of you, though it might take a bit of an effort by having to deal with the CS of your bank :P
you just skimmed through this thread or didn't read it at all. that much is obvious
UltimatePay was not as bad as click and cry. however that isn't the issue.
some people do not have the option to use those game time cards(Entry level can't use them and Legacy level won't) for various reasons. also you can't use them to pay for extra retainers or buy Fantasia or anything else they might decide to offer in the future. those Namingway Cards they keep talking about might very well be an option you need either a Credit Card or Crysta to buy.
I for 1 was using the Ultimate Game Card to buy Crysta. and on occasion used Paypal. not once have I had an issue with UltimatePay/Playspan.
many of us do not have the option to use anything but Paypal now that the UGC is gone. a workaround for some would be the Paypal Debit Mastercard. but what about those who can't use that option? Paypal will not send that card to most countries outside of the USA.
Adding https://www.skrill.com/ would be nice as well while you're at it as a payment option. More options more subs. Also considered selling digital time cards on PSN?
That may be a problem. For Visa or mastercard to back a banks debt card it need to have an expiration date. I'm almost certain you have a bank that is only contracted with mastercard's pulse or visa's Cirrus or Star Clearing houses. These Clearing Houses are used for processing ATM and Check transactions. So you may just have a ATM card. Does your card have the standard 16 digit credit number
format on it or does it have your actual bank account number on it.
