I got carried away by comment like yours thinking that spiritbonding was awful solo and that's why people did dungeons like it, turns out, it's easy as hell, my fastest solo spiritbind has taken me 27 mins as monk, yes I have timed it, mainly binding patrician sets since I wanted to meld my crafts without spending money.

+1. I believe losing materia with the Novus is generating a time sink for a quest line that is already time consuming enough. Pointless filler, if you will, to give an artificial sense that the quest is longer than it is. I was on the lucky end of RNGesus for my Novus (1/16 Tier IV fails) but a close friend blew up 11 Crit IVs making theirs. In my opinion, it's a long enough quest farming 75 Alexandrite without having to either farm millions more gil or spend dozens more hours spiritbinding simply to compensate for poor luck.

I would say its not really worth it, because Novus is not BiS it will be replaced with high allegan or a new set of stats when the next relic upgrade patch comes out in 2.4. Mathematically going for 3 stats on your novus vs going for 2 stats is like 1~3 dps difference. But the price difference is say 300k vs 8m or so. Now you got to decide is that 1-3 extra dps going to be worth it for a weapon that you will replace with either high allegan, the next relic upgrade in 2.4, or shiva weapons or whatever other weapons that drop in 2.4

ilvl 48-59 accs are very fast to spiritbind, and due to how fast they SB ( I did mine doing FATEs in north than) that it counters the small increase in chance of IVs from ilvl 55 gear. Plus electrum gear is very easy to make.

OT: Funniest Novus combo ive seen is a SMN with skillspeed :S Not spellspeed, skill!

Totally going to meld 75 lightning materias and solo Ramuh Ex.

I didn't mean to carry away anyone from SBing in open world, on the contrary, I want SE to discourage SBing in dungeons and keep it in open world, or try a different system that doesn't require people grinding monsters while using low level gear.

At some point, I'd love to lost alexandrite instead of IV materia :)

This - I can't afford to buy and risk losing grade IV but that doesn't mean something must be "eased" because I don't have enough gil. Can make a very good Novus with melding only 96%-100% grade IV and then switching to another stat.
Removing the chance to fail materia meld on Novus actually would be an insult to people who have lost millions of gil and melded their weapon to max stat.

I'm fine with it as is. I'm not spending any money at all on T4s. Only reason I stuck in two Savage Might IVs is because I had them on hand to begin with. As soon as I'm out of Savage Aim III melds, I'm moving on to a third stat.

There need to be random gear checks in the dungeons at random times. And if you don't have the needed ilevel you get kicked out of the dungeons. Then more players would use crafted ilevel 90 for spiritbind.

Or that you can spiritbind ilevel 1-55 only in the open world and 70+ only in dungeons

TBH, losing an 500K materia is much much worse than losing an alex ^^;

No doubt Shiva weapon will be i115. I decided to meld no tier 4s in my Novus and I found that expensive enough - 2 million gil wasted. Melding tier 4s is insanity.

Anyone know what gear has better chance to convert into Savage Aim/Might IV?

While i agree with the OP, i don't see how SE could do this and still promote gil buying. I mean, look @ everything SE has done the last 6 months. Vanity items are top tier crafts needing something like 389 craftsmanship? Which only allows people to charge rediculous prices for such items. The new blue bikini set on levithan nets about 3.5 to 4 million because of the rareity of it. And besides, the RNG in this game is soooooo bad, 98% might as well be 70%. I'm working on Animus now, but if this doesn't get changed, i'll just not go to novus. Even as is, this relic doesn't seem worth half the work going into it. When i can get alternates that are the same damage with much less effort.

"Handouts," my suggestion isn't asking we not put the work in to collect both 75 Alexanderite's & 75 Materia's.

Also, it's a fail-argument to insist we completely skip earning our relic just because we don't like a particular aspect of it. It's perfectly reasonable to make requests or give feedback with regards to the process.

I want my Novus, I just think it's a tad much having even a chance to lose Grade IV's which are a huge cost alone. I'm still going to get the weapon, but I'm going to share with SE how I think the process could be improved upon.

Doesn't matter, Novus isn't required to do any content. It's extra credit. You can't complain that extra credit work is too hard.

Who's complaining? Certainly not I. I'm putting in a request. It's a GAME with DEVELOPERS who make CONSCIOUS DESIGN DECISIONS.

Sure, it isn't required. But neither are Hunts. Neither is playing the GAME. PERIOD.

Doesn't mean a person can't make a suggestion they feel would make for a better game experience.

Believe it or not, some people want every aspect of their games to be the absolutely best they possibly can be. To promote the most enjoyable experience possible with regards to every facet of the gaming experience. This includes "optional content", which isn't every part of any game optional?

I want the best for every little part of this game.

In gerneral I ageee with op, I have the same thought when novus was released.
But I think it don't need to be removed and apparently it will not be removed.
Actually infusion failure so bad is because those popular materia4 are too expansive as everyone need them.
Therefore I think they can increase the supply of those popular materia4, (i.e. dungeon drop, retainer venture...theat everyone have access)
I think it would lower the price of those popular materia4 on the MB and resolve the problem of too expansive.
For the no one want materia4, players can just use them to play the 5to1 lucky-draw... ^^;

Moreover, imagine the boss dorp is not a filtered water but a DET materia4, how good is that!

If you think the price for rank IV materias are out of your budget, then don't do it. They make very minimal (almost insignificant) difference. Just max up to rank 3 for 2 stats and maybe 1 or 2 rank IVs for 100% melding.

It was a good suggestion, if everyone listen to it, the price will drop definitely.
But I think most ppl still want to +44/31 unless , as you have mentioend, out of budget..., however, ppl actually very rich...^^;

So you thought just because you get dungeon gear and don't craft that you would be saved from the pains of materia...THINK AGAIN!

If you consider the materia market at the end of 2.21 this was a brilliant play as there was little to no reason to buy battle materia still and adding in new jewerly would only do so much. So piety, spell speed, and parry would once again be worth gil and not throw away items. And because of a failure rate spread across the server it gives a specific need to the risk and the gil proportional to the risk because of the large reward if you succeed. Sure DET and CRIT topped the charts but that has always been true of the melding game. Trust as a person that has many failed melds it's a solid system that pulls the right levers even if it stings when the system works correctly.

I have had the best luck with black pearl and zircon.

I agree. While Grade IV's aren't required, the work of earning a Grade IV whether by Gil Purchase or SB should be sufficient enough to merit its use in the Novus Relic.

My "perfect" SMN Novus cost me around 3.8 million.
I failed twice, ever. Once on a grade II Savage Aim, and once on a grade IV savage might.
Not that bad.
50% still means decent odds.

It made it more fun, that apprehension as to whether or not my materia would stick.
I don't get why everyone wants safety nets put up around an already forgiving system.

It's just 'too severe' I think.

Plenty of players lose 16 Grade IV's in a row.

Perhaps if the odds increased with every successive failure.

Or it takes plenty of players 100+ hours to get a measly 4 Atma's.

I don't think this' a very choice of area to implement such a hefty risk, personally.

Seen plenty of screenshot proof on Reddit, etc. Heard about it a lot, seen it happen in-game.

Easy enough to find if you browse around. Also, 16 is obviously an erroneous figure but I've seen that figure surpassed on multiple occasions.

It's reasonable to assume it happens elsewhere, besides just in front of me or apart from those who decide to post it to Reddit.

It's just fact that it happens period, even if only to a handful of people, it's too punishing still IMHO.

I just don't think it makes for good gameplay whatsoever.

I think SE puts too much reliance on "pure" or "true" RNG.

Novus melding is perfectly fine as is in my opinion. Failure/success rates don't even drop that low, lowest being a 50% chance.
If it costs too much, can spiritbind. It doesn't take that long really. Don't want to put the time in? Go for the coil weapon.

Being lucky with meld chances isn't an accomplishment.

This post is akin to all the people who got their atma in a single day going 'The system isn't that bad! Stop being lazy.' Womp.

I failed quite a few melds on mine. By the time of completion I was 9.5M invested. It sucked blowing up so much materia but I knew the risk since RNG is involved just like everyone else. There were cheaper options available to me and I still chose to do it.

I think its fine the way it is. If SE decides to change it thats fine too. Makes no difference to me. I would still build another one either way.

You know "shit happens" when you fail 95% success rate for all gathering attempts on a +1 gathering node (thankfully it was all garbage materials and I laughed at how /incredibly/ lucky (unlucky) that moment was).

It would be nice for each failed attempt you get one guaranteed attempt of the same materia and grade.

The statistical possibility of failing 16 in a row even with 50% are excessively low. I'm not saying that it never happened to anyone but I highly doubt it's as common as you're making it out to be.

Could it be better ? Sure. Is it as bad as people are making it out to be ? Not at all.

It does suck to fail at a high percentage chance of success but as long as it isn't 100% chance, the probability that it might fail will exists. Like I said in the previous quote, it could be a better system but it's far from being as bad as people are making it out to be.

With a 100,000 people attempting that meld, there's something like an 80% chance for it to happen to someone. There are more than 100,000 people playing the game. Why is it acceptable for some people to just get screwed for no other reason than RNG hates them.

And that's only failing 16 times in a row, you'll see 10 in a row a lot more frequently.
