Keep in mind this is Chocobo raising, not breeding. Dear Altana... I mean Nophica... please let breeding be far, far better thought out then this.

Is this just a way to make your companion level faster?
Yuck. I have over looked this part in the Patch notes. So you need to know how to produce Glazenuts to raise your Choccobo? LOL. To raise your Choccobo you need to be a Gardener and a good crafter? Loosing interest in a Level 20 Choccobo more and more. I think I will respec my birdie and leave it at Level 10.
The knowledge to produce glazenuts and broombush have been out for a long time. If your FC has a house but no interest in gardening or crafting then the brooms and feed will be on the AH in due time while we figure out how to crossbreed the new things.
It's still a rather unreasonable thing to expect though, given the demand that they'll have and the fact that they take a LONG time to make. Especially when it seems like it's just to make a quickly consumable item. I'm hoping that the crossbreed changes they've made involves these goods, because as is, spending almost 1mil (on servers) just for 20 brooms isn't exactly reasonable.
I don't mind the idea of gardening for these goods that are generally going to be in extremely high demand (due to somewhat necessary use), but only if the wait time is acceptable. 2 days of gardening (without fertilizer) seems like a decent wait period. 4+ days of constant fertilizing (otherwise over a week of waiting), which is what it is/was, just to achieve several yields is not good design. You save that for the optional (but certainly worthwhile) items, not for the goods that will prevent a nerf. However, I suppose it isn't a very big deal if cleaning the stables, regardless of the amount of stabled Chocobos, doesn't need to happen more than once or twice a week. That's also assuming it isn't as long or costly to obtain those Glazenuts and Broombush.
Bit OOT here, I haven't spending gardening in XI much time. Only tried few times and resulting some garbage stuff that I npc most of them. I wonder if Mog garden there has intercrossing feature too, since if I recall that it only has like 3 garden patch to plant stuff.
Magicked Stable Brooms confirmed for consumable, as tested by a crafter in our server.
Now the question really is how long does it take for a stable to become filthy.
Speaking as the only gardener in my FC who breeds (and by ONLY gardener, I mean I am also responsible for mining the Grade 3/Grade 2 Thanalan Topsoil AND the Unspoiled Node seeds, AND the only one who fertilizes them, meaning that's a full-time responsibility and I want to do other things too, you know), breeding into Glazenut is a time-consuming process, and if people actually helped and cooperated (haha yeah right) would maybe take about 2 weeks or less.
As it stands, it's just not feasible right now to even train chocobos until a more reasonable way to clean it has been made accessible. That's just my opinion, though.
I mean I guess you could let your chocobos wallow in filth and keep using the stables. There's always that.
This is.... disappointing. I'm already overworked putting together things for the guild's crafting, and now everyone is going to be on me to get their stupid chocobo stuff grown - SE IT'S TOO MUCH!
Either add personal gardens SOON or change the things needed for these chocos. This system would have been interesting and great if it was a personal system, but I'm sick of working for everyone else's benefit and I'm very close to just telling them all to go pound salt. I don't think that this level of discord is what you wanted your systems to bring about in people, but that's what is happening as you make more and more content exclusively accessible (and therefore necessary to be produced by) the top tiers of FC leadership.
The whole thing is just terribly implemented, but I'm starting to expect that from this game.
God, SE.. why can't you make ANYTHING accessible to everyone? Why must EVERYTHING be difficult with you? I love this game, but I am increasingly more and more disappointed and flat-out baffled by your terrible decisions on non-progression content. You screwed up glamour, you screwed up housing, you screwed up dyeable AFs (seriously, it doesn't change their stats), you're screwing up chocobo raising. Seriously, you need to get your heads on straight and fix this crap.
Sarcasm? This entire game is accessible, which is the problem - they start to change it (like any good MMO) and it seems to be a problem. This particular style by design isn't great because it's not really..interactive - In XI it was kind of the same, but it still had a bit more interaction (and purpose) to it since chocobos could actually vary.
Imagine when they introduce the chocobo color change feature... I'm sure it will require an insane amount of grind to change the feathers of our little friends from what I've seen in this patch. :(
I don't even want to start thinking about what mumbo-jumbo they are going to make us do in order to enjoy the Golden Saucer when it comes out.
He already stated you change the plume color by feeding it an item, far less work than FFIX/FFVII/FFXI breeding (thus more accessible to people who want to do it asap.) Since as we know color usually = ability and traits on a chocobo, so there wouldn't be any work involved.
So 3 days into patch:
I reside in Ward 4 of the goblet.
28/30 homes are purchased.
Of those 28 homes, only 10 even have a garden currently growing something. (and of those 10, not all of them are using the 'biggest' garden or as many as their plot size allows).
...22/28 Have chocobo sheds.
So my point: People aren't even growing/attempting to grow chocobo food (just like they didn't try to plant before very often). This is the main reason the demand will be far greater than the supply. If more of those FC's would even just grow the Krakka Root, life would be better. (Sure it offers no bonus stat but it's still food and helps exp).
1 Thavnairian onion increase the level cap by 1Quote:
- Chocobo Level Cap
For chocobos that have already attained the maximum rank, rewarding them with a Thavnairian onion following training will increase this upper limit by one.
* Chocobo companions cannot exceed rank 20.
So you would need 10 Thavnairian onions to reach cap 20
Here's how you calculate magic stable broom price=
1 Glazenut + 1 Broombush + 5 bamboo sticks / 20
On our server, someone brought price down to 75k. So as long as brooms get below 125k, it will be more reasonable for people to purchase them than buy a new choco stable.
We had some listed at 35-40kish if I remember correctly today. The brooms will most likely either be plenty cheap to outright buy as needed or easy enough to dedicate 1-2 FC gardening batches to and overstocking on. (20 brooms per nut/bush/5sticks isn't really a bad deal. ) Keeping the stables clean is important though as I saw about a 25% exp increase with a 'Good' stable over 'Fair'
The only delays/expense will likely be in the special ability foods as people will first have to figure out cross-breeding for them, then this information will have to become widely known, then people will need a couple rounds to grow enough said veggies to = enough supply.
But again, every single FC can grow basic Krakka Roots right now. Yes, there's better food. No this will not break your Rank caps as it's the wrong food. But it'll do. And it'll work just fine until the cross-breeding information is known. And lastly, your Challenge Log still is probably the best single source of sexy quick chocobo exp/week you can find.
Someone found a Tantaplant seed, so one of the special chocobo foods have been found, at least in seed form. dond't know how they did it or who it was, but it's up on the AH for 2 mil on my server.
Adding on to my previous post, I would like to add that with even more testing, the Chocobo stables have turned from Fair to Poor in a manner of days.
My FC got a stable right after patch, and at least one person has trained their chocobo once every hour.
Today is 7/11, so from 7/8 to today and it's already filthy, that's 3 days, so you'd roughly be using 2-3 brooms per week (and that's slow going, considering in other FCs, there could be multiple people training chocobos every hour).
The chocobos stabled in my FC fluctuate from 17 to 20, so my above estimate may not work for FCs with a much higher or lower amount of people. Larger FCs with more chocobos in the stables surely will probably be using more brooms.
Point still stands; the current way to clean stables is awful in regards to the resources it takes to be able to do it.
I just wanted to say that after only about 3 days of usage between 4 people, our chocobo stable went from Fair to Poor.
I'm shocked because that means you will burn through these brooms at least 2-3 times a week and it takes nearly 3 weeks to crossbreed all the broombrush/glazenuts to make them.
What a disappointing feature that was supposed to be a fun and casual addition to the housing.
2-3 brooms a week/20 brooms
Even if we do the 3 times a week/20 brooms that is still almost 7 weeks of stable cleaning....or you know, 1 and a half months of use from ONE synth....hell, there's people who burn through their top-end gear faster than that.
Also, lets just assume for funzies, that your FC plants one week for glazenuts, one week for broom bush and then cultivates half of them, stores the other half. Sure, that's 3 weeks in the hole (if you only have one bed) buuut, 4x20=80 brooms...or almost 6 months of stable cleaning....from ONE full round of broom mat growing.
So again, the complaining needs to stop. If you're really worried, take the next 1-2 weeks and focus solely on growing the mats for the brooms. You don't need to start from scratch, depending on your server, you might find a good buy on the 2nd level of crossbreed seeds...or even, the actual crop seeds (broombush/glazenuts). Have a guild carpenter make you a 50-100 supply of them, then tuck them away in the FC chest and use as needed. After you take 1-2 weeks to do this, then you can freely grow chocobo food.
I think the larger complaint is 'but now I can't make gil selling because FC mates will be demanding' well...if they aren't actively helping procure the resources, really the individual gardners...or at least the FC should benefit from the efforts put forth in the gardens. IE: charge your FC mates a fee to maintain the stables/craft feed. OR remind them nicely that if they don't help out, they will have to fund the stable/chocobo growth from their own pockets.
I do 100% of my FC gardening. We have enough supplies stockpiled to easily get us through the next month. This is a problem for some FC's only because they didn't plan accordingly OR don't wish to wait the 2-4 weeks it'll take to get truely situated.
If you are a member of a large FC, and you either live in a small plot and/or don't work together to use the resources you have, well that's kinda your FC's management fault. Either upgrade your plot size, work with fellow FC's that are underproducing/have less demand (I have for example contacted a Friends 'solo -it's just him and his close family' FC about working together as needed as he owns a small house and it would be easier for him to focus on food production while I keep us stocked in brooms-and other mats when needed, otherwise growing feed).
Lastly, SE knows that personal housing is around the corner....and people needed some reason to be interested in it. Personal housing likely will open up the markets, and lower costs (or at least let you grow your own). But for now, this is fine...SE does not want everyone and their brother to have a level 20 bird by August. They want this content to last. This is one way to do it...make the mats that unlock it be difficult to obtain, for now. But, finding glazenuts, jute, broombush or their lesser seeds for sale on your world is not hard. There IS a steady supply of the 2.2 seeds, once this all is figured out, their will be a steady supply of chocobo food/mats as well. It will, as many things in life do, just take time.
Or....as a FC you can circumvent the entire mess for now and just sell something, anything that nets you the same profits as the items you need (food and brooms) would cost. You could craft, gather, SB your way to gil. No one says you have to grow your own. These are not rare/ex items...be creative. Work with friends. Be patient.
That's what we have been doing. However we are a small house and so because we are growing CLEANING materials, we now cannot grow food for our chocobos and once my fc members used up their initial 5 krakka roots they just removed their chocobos from the stable.
Also I want to start growing Jute for making the pillow minion so some of us don't want to constantly be only growing brooms for cleaning stables. There's a lot of things that can be grown with a garden and this basically forces us to only grow exactly the things to actually keep chocobo raising going.
So because you were "prepared" and are doing fine & dandy, everyone else should be punished. Okay.ಠ_ಠQuote:

P.S. This isn't the only complaint thread and I checked Japanese forums, they are complaining about the same thing. Stop telling people to "stop complaining" when it's obviously an issue that's affecting the quality of a game system for many people.
P.P.S. We bought our house about a month ago and have been crossbreeding glazenuts/broombrush since day 1. It's been a month and we got our glazenuts/seeds and are now working on broombrushes. We did this with the intention of making minions and never did we think that it would be a 1 time use item that's necessary for chocobo raising. If you magically predicted it, then you must have psychic powers!
I was worried about producing chocobo food but Krakka root seeds give 9 pieces of food by default and 18 if you use grade 3 shroud soil. They also grow super quick, it takes about 3 days. That's 144 pieces of food from an 8-plant plot every few days. As was mentioned, one synth of the brooms gives you enough of them for over a month and now that the crossbreeds for all the involved items are well-known and super easy to get if you use grade 3 thanalan soil, it just takes a bit of time, communication, planning, and most of all everyone working together as a group to make it succeed. There's really no other way to go about it.
Hell you can probably just use half the plot for food and half the plot for growing broom materials that you will get a surplus of food and will be able to stop growing it for long enough to let you use the full plot for broom materials or for personal items.
Also I'm pretty sure that the stables get dirty just based on how much time passes with a chocobo in there. We ran out of food on the first night of the patch and only one person has had their chocobo in there since then and ours also went from Fair to Poor and with how everybody everywhere is reporting the same thing it's likely the case.
You know what would be nice? If everything cosmetic and personal didn't demand I be in an FC.
To add:
It only takes 3 days w/o any fishmeal to raise from start-finish Krakka seeds. I only planted 4 slots of them some in cross soil/some in higher yield soil and got 42 Krakka Roots. So it won't take long before the markets flood with these as well, again lessening the burden on FC gardners.
When you have your own house you will have your own garden.
