Any chance we may get i70 or i90 crafting gears in the near future?

...but they've shown before the ability to neglect fishers as compared with other gather/crafters. (Master Fisher's ring, and the fact that getting the fishing main i70 is about 100+ times harder/longer than other gatherers)

Edit: Might as well pre-empt any argument about that with some solid figures.

With existing gear, you can guarantee 2 hq umbral rocks/fragrant logs per trip. Porting + chocobo to your spot takes under a minute, let's say 90 seconds per trip. So 45 minutes for a guaranteed i70 miner/btn tool.

People estimate an average of 30 minutes to catch a Silver Sovereign, with a maximum 15% hq rate, and no way of telling if anyone can really hit that. But in that best case scenario, and tbh, 30 minutes seems a bit forgiving (it's longer), that'd average about 67 hours playtime for the i70 fisher tool.

67 HOURS VS 45 MINUTES

eh? I already made 5 DoH & all 3 DoL i70 tools. That's gonna be obsolete very soon? :(

I understand at most people potentially freaking out over better gear coming... But surely everyone knows this (and probably armor too) were coming. I mean, how long did it take to get AF2 the first time it came out? I never got it and am actually skipping it because I can just get Coil armor quickly.

And now, especially with turn 3 for accessory grinding, it simply isn't hard to get materia now (note: I never said it wasn't time consuming...)

If a player invested millions of gil into materia so that they craft very specific high level gear, i do feel for them... But they should have thought about whether it was worth it or not to make the jump.
Honestly I think a good solution could be able to break an item in exchange for any un-overmelded materia in it, for a fee or something.

Not sure why everyone thinks the Artisan tools will be worthless. You'll almost certainly need them to get the new tool.

I predict:

1) Get Desynthesis skill to 50
2) Desynth something to get an untradeable mat
3) Trade tool, mat and a myth item to get new tool

Well... you can trade those i70 tools/hats for GC seals, though it would be a very bad trade. :p

I was more talking about taking materia out of the craft specific AF equipment:o

Seriously, what were you people thinking? We literally JUST GOT new main hand tools for DoH and DoL last major patch. Personally, I grinded for all of them. Twice, even, for the DoL tools (for retainers and myself).

How about introducing complementary equipment, like, I dunno, an Off-Hand tool? Oh Right... Then you wouldn't have anything to add for Fisher.

Or how about completing the Artisan set before you move on to new main hand tools?

Or how about giving us an opportunity to upgrade those level 45 Red Coral Earrings we've been dragging around since version 1?

Or how about retiring that level 49 Electrum Choker? I mean, THANK GOD it's not green, we'd get confused. Just think of how dumbfounded we'd be if it had an item level above 50?

Wow, I'm really glad all of a sudden. I was worried I'd be all badass and overgeared. Whew. Thank goodness your plan for ARR's endgame crafting completely ignores our entire gear and just focuses on putting god-wrought tools of all-creation in our flimsy hands.

Seriously, could you not think of ANYTHING else that might have had a bigger priority than having us replace AGAIN our main-hand tools? I REALLY hope this is just a mistake and you really meant to say "secondary tool" or "off-hand tool".

Oh, I'll definitely edit my post if there's an erratum. In the meantime, though, I think it's good that we all get our opinions across so that they don't pull a stunt like this in the future (or right now).

The real problem isn't the item they chose to replace (replacing the same unmeldable, stat-heavy, class-specific piece over and over makes the most sense, actually). The problem is that tight, progressive stat gating is a stupid progression mechanic. It is tedious and uninspired. Unfortunately, it's also the easiest way to artificially limit participation in a market where everyone can level every DoH class and every single Cashmere Robe of Healing is exactly the same.

A better way forward would be to give us new non-economic content like DoH minigame puzzles or redeemable glamour gear. People would gladly make hundreds of HQ Silver Brocades (or the equivalent) for a single set of glamour gear and they wouldn't complain about being forced into it like they do now. Update GC supply missions. Those are passable DoH daily content for people who just hit level 50, but nothing stays fresh for the better part of a year even when gear improvements don't render it utterly trivial.

Give us some manner of forced specialization. Desynthesis could turn out to be a mechanism for this, allowing for meaningful BoP resource gating without reducing the DoH classes to the same auxiliary crafting system every other game has. You could accomplish this through an FFXI-style limitation going forward (all DoH classes to 50 and x total points among all DoH classes past 50) or even skill trees. Specialization would not completely obviate the need for some sort of progression gating, but it would help a lot.

Alternatively, give us some sort of item customization or randomization so everyone doesn't make exactly the same thing. Maybe an item with 18 str/18 vit could roll 14-20 str/14-20 vit instead. Give us non-gameable philosophical choices in item creation. Imagine an ability that adds a materia slot to an item but also adds a (stacking) 40% chance that the item will break upon completion. Or an ability that randomly replaces one of the secondary stats on an item with a parallel stat.

Once you deal with the market issue, there are a dozen ways you can give out upgrades and all of them would be more fun and less tedious than way it is currently done. I realize these things will never happen, but the bottom line is this, SE:

Players should be happy to get new crafting recipes. Players should be happy to get the opportunity to get new gear. When your players moan about new upgrades before they even know what's required to get them, you've screwed up somewhere.

I just got both of mine last week, after much looking at the clock and realising it's now 7:59 Eorzean time I've missed the damn nodes again.... ack! Lol.

The thing is DoW/M gear only sees a big iLevel jump with the Coil patches, the intermediate CT patches are all about easing the grind.

. . . Also, can we store Forager/Artisan tools in the Armory Chest? Because I've got the entire godsdamned set plus spares for the retainers and if all I can do is trade them in for seals I'm retaking Stone Vigil just so I can flip the biggest table in Eorzea.

nope, can't store them in the chest... As a rule of thumb: if you can obtain it again (recurrent drop, repeatable quest, trade-in, craftable, purchasable), you can't store it in the Armoire.

If there is new gear with to craft with an increased difficulty from current i90 gear, i'm ok with new tools. In fact i prefer main hand tool than a off hand tools who will cost few millions in materias.

If they did with the off-hand tool as they did with the headpiece, the new off-hand tool would not require any materia melding. Instead, it would come with built-in stats better than a fully-melded off-hand tool. Since an off-hand tool can't actually be fully melded, I don't actually know what those stats would be, but there you go.

That's pretty much the biggest reason I find it unlikely that SE will be upgrading the off-hand tool anytime soon. Either it will be too good (having stats that are better than what you get by melding millions of gil worth of materia into the old off-hand) or it won't be good enough (having stats that are LOWER than said off-hand, meaning folks will be reluctant to invest in a piece that can never be best-in-slot).

Seriously, how ridiculous. So basically all my time spent getting 50 HQ items to make the weapon was a waste. I know gear becomes obsolete but you could add the off-hand and the remaining i70 gear first.

and who says they cant add an offhand for fisher.. maybe a tackle box or a small dipnet to catch the fish once u reeled them in :)

Let me guess, it involves having to desynth something at 100 skill level in that particular craft to get an item used in a 3 star synth to make the new primary tool? That sounds about right. Seeing as you can't have more than 300 points at any given time in desynthesis, this would create another epic resource drain that seems to be the norm.

dont worry the new tools will be hard to get only for hardcore DoH/DoL.. where you have to craft, fish, chop and mine atma while inside Fates Areas..

I swear we better not have to desynth the tools. I'm still working to get my ARM hammer since I don't have every craft maxed so it's taking longer (i don't have a perfect ability rotation for the 100% success method). If it does, it damn well better be a 100% success rate on the rare item because I don't think ANYONE here wants to go through all that crap again.

Grinding, to have to grind to grind again so you can do next to nothing is getting stale real quick.

If they had introduced crafted i90 accessories in the last big patch, that would have opened a huge market for crafters. Even though you can get i100 soldiery items easily, it would serve as a stop-gap and would have the bonus of offering extra HP by putting vitality on it.

I think by the time they allow for crafted i90 jewelry, soldiery will become uncapped for the week and i120 or something will be out.

I'm fairly certain they announced that crafted i90 jewelry will be in 2.3, while new tomes will almost certainly be in 2.4

I don't think they ever officially announced ilvl90 crafted jewelry will be in 2.3, they just dodged the question and implied it would be.

Isn't THIS the truth. I have spent several RL nights fishing and only have 10 HQ silvers for the rod. On the other hand I have obtained 2 Miners tools, 2 Botanists tools, and 3 hats (for my retainers). The fishing is just insane.

As much as I love my crafters, and I really do love my crafters, the 'new gear' we had in a more recent patch was so heavily gated behind a wall of grind that only the truly dedicated will ever get their upgrade. I mean really... 60 high quality, high grade items?

Even ignoring the fact that the sheer costs in materials alone is a pain in the backside, there's literally no way to guarantee a HQ on those items even with full materia melds and the best gear equippable! You can play the numbers game and try to get a HQ 'most' of the time, but it's still a gamble. I fear that even IF they do add such tools, it will be such an impossible task to obtain them that crafting becomes the sole domain of the hardcore grinders.

Look guys, let me level with you. I levelled all my crafters to 50 because I genuinely enjoy it. It's a fun little diversion while I'm waiting for a duty, and it's useful for making gear for classes I have yet to cap out. I'm about as casual as it gets, and they got to level 50 over a long period of time. Yes, I'm a 1.0 player, and yes a good amount of that levelling was done back in ye olde days.

I get that some people are crying, nay, screaming for the monotonous grindy rubbish that permeates every single other rubbish MMO where people mindlessly do the same thing ad infinity just for the tiniest of rewards. I know you guys can do better than that. I've seen it. So, how about cutting crafters a break and giving us some items which can be obtained within a normal humans lifespan?

Better yet, how about letting crafters CRAFT their future gear? What a novel idea that would be, wouldn't it? This stuff doesn't need to be hidden behind an endless grind if you've got the tiniest spark of creativity left, and I'm crossing every last finger that new items at least give players a fair chance of obtaining it before they go old and gray.

On another note... we could really use some upgraded body, legs, gloves, and boots. It's getting really dull wearing the same level 55 gear for every synthesis.

If they do the rest of the gear the way they did the head piece it will make crafting materia worthless. I could see them doing the same thing with the rest of the visible armor, but I couldn't imagine them doing it with the accessories. They are already shared across jobs, so you don't need to meld 8 different pieces per slot. I think they were just testing the water with the head piece, and we might not see any more cross class pieces like it.

Right, but people were talking about hypothetical crafting jewelry where having no slots would be nice (assuming it's an all round upgrade like the tools and headpiece have been).

Obviously the i90 crafted DoM/DoW jewelry will have slots.
