Dear Lord! Please make Coerthas green again!

I'd say hope for Coerthas Central Lowlands. It should be between Coerthas Central Highlands (what we have) and Mor Dhona, but it isn't. At the same time though, there is a new door at the camp in Mor Dhona that could lead to Central Lowlands.

There is a door in Central Highlands that the Ixal guard (just north of Natalan) which should lead to Coerthas Eastern Highlands, which seems to be Ixal controlled (all the beastmen are meant to get their own zone iirc, not just a tiny section of existing zones). Eastern Lowlands is obviously beyond the bridge where we fight Gilgamesh. Then there is Shivas zone in Western Highlands.

I'd expect both Lowlands to be either a mix of snow and green, or just completely green. Eastern Highlands might even have some green, seeing as that is where Garuda should be and the winds could be preventing snowfall.

Many of us just miss what little there may have been in the 1.0 Coerthas. I'm not calling for the zone to be dismantled, I personally would like to see another side to the zone done in 1.0's climate but with 2.0's more intricate zone design.

Of all the zone re-designs in 2.0, Coerthas has been the only one that has ever bothered me, probably because every other zone gets a re-imagining of what it was, where Coerthas just feels out right re-imagined to be something completely different. I'm not opposed to it, I just have a personal preference.

I'd have preferred the north lands above Ishgard to be snowy, and Coerthas to remain similar. It's whatever though, I'm not disliking on the game because of this issue, I've played both XI and XIV since launch and I'm surely to continue.

Or you know, maybe some people actually just liked the zone and music. Opinions vary, but evidently if anyone likes anything in the past, it's simply due to "rose-tinted glasses".

I actually like the snow motif. Gives it a sort of Game of Thrones The Wall style feel defending from the Dragons.

And now copy/paste that image until you fill an area the size of 2.0 Eorzea, and you have Coerthas from 1.0.

It did look nice, and the music was great. But it was highly repetitive, just like every other area back then. In fact, all of the area textures were very high quality; that much so, more resources were poured into the game looking good that everything else about it wasn't.

I'm quite glad that we have a snow zone and have no issues with that. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of areas we'll see in 3.0 and we may see places like this elsewhere.

I like that it's wintery. La Noscea and The Black Shroud are lush. Thanalan's a desert. Coerthas fills that snowy/wintery spot niche just fine. It's one of my favourite places to hang out because I love how it looks with the snow.

Frankly I'm kind of miffed as it is that they made the part of Coerthas with Natalan (and Garuda) snowy for 2.0. I love how they go through the story explaining you need poweful ice magic to nullify Garuda's barrier, yet the whole of the zone is COVERED IN FREAKING ICE AND SNOW.

Nah, I like 2.0 coerthas over 1.0 just because of the snowy climate it has.
And especially since it's summer soon... I miss winter. >_>

And the igloos! What about the igloos!?

You mean the quest that took you to an area of Coerthas you not only cannot see from Central Highlands (I can see the Burning Wall from Southern Thanalan, I think I'd be able to see a giant tornado if it were anywhere nearby), but clearly wasn't covered in snow?

Also, ice and snow is powerful ice magic? They're weather. If weather is that powerful then you shouldn't be able to cast Fire spells in the rain...

If The Howling Eye shows us anything, it's that there is an area of Coerthas that isn't covered in snow, and with four sections of Coerthas yet to be added, I'd say chances are high one of them will lack snow...

That big gate they've put up in Mor Dhona now? Imagine if they put a NPC there who'll take you to Coerthas Central Lowlands, which has recently thawed (while the Highlands still haven't because, well they're Highlands...). Why'd it thaw? We kicked Shivas butt. If you haven't reached that point in the quest, you cannot access that area. Similar to many of the CoP zones in XI.

It would work nicely, more so since a recent update showed they can change NPC dialogue based on quest progression. All the NPCs in Coerthas Central Highlands could act as though the winter is still unended until you do that quest, then they start mentioning how the south is thawed instead.

you do know they admitted that image was a concept image of what the UI will look like and was NOT an in-game screen shot? I mean heck it clearly shows 6 bag slots!

Well, Shiva most likely will be there. So... probably not. Maybe it will have a story, you see.

Considering she is in the center of all E3 posters instead of Ramuh, maybe we'll also find out real soon.

Looking at the map of 1.0 Coerthas I would surmise that the Howling Eye is in that NW corner of what was Eastern Coerthas. THe small section that looked to only be accessible by going through Natalan. Pretty likely that the ice and snow don't extend far if at all into the east. That would fit with Shiva being HQed in Western Coerthas beyond the ice wall.

That's the problem with nuclear winter... it tends to last a few thousand years. Drop a piece of the moon on where you live and see how the weather looks in a few decades.

Joking aside, though, I thought they did a pretty good job of showing that the moon exploding and falling in pieces to the ground, combined with a gigantic pissed off dragon attack actually had an effect on the land.

Wow those screenies of old Coerthas are gorgeous! Hopefully they bring that back, and also expand our snowy areas as well. ^^

I miss the vastness more than everything else, because it was so massive, even after going there many many times, it would always feel like an adventure, like there was some unknown secrets still to be discovered.

Now... I know what is round every corner, the same as what was there the last time I went, this may have been true of 1.0 but because of the scale it was near impossible to become completely familiar with the whole zone and because there were some level 99 mobs in the furthest corners it made it very dangerous to explore which was exciting!

That's it, in 1.0 it felt when you got to Coerthas that you had entered a wonderful wild landscape. . . . it now feels like a section of skyrim :P

I suppose the one thing I miss the most is that I'll never be able to hang out at the Stone Vigil which was my favorite spot in 1.0 It had the best view of Ishgard and the misty mountains in the distance. A place that is now somehow 50 times the size with corridors that make no sense existing. But whatever, weirder places have popped up out of nowhere.

I do actually like Skyrim despite heavy snow. It's absolutely breathtaking view. But with Coerthas here, the snowy fields rubs me very... very wrong. :(

I think a good compromise could have been if the southern part of Coerthas resembled the 1.0 version, and it only became snowy in the northern part.

But, yeah, I was one of the people who really wanted a snow zone to be added, and am happy that we got at least one. And as beautiful as old Coerthas could be sometimes, it was still the same from end to end (the same problem as every other 1.0 zone) and the fact that most of it was a convoluted rock maze with few open areas didn't really help matters either.

Never played 1.0 but I love this Coerthas for many reasons:

-It fits with the highly religious Coerthas people
-The music is perfect for a snowy land
-The high winds of Garuda play an amazing theme here
-I love snow places
-It isolates it from Gridania (very important because you want Coerthas to feel like a different place than Gridania). This kind of snowy isolation plays a big role.

I really like the field music in Coerthas. I would just sit there for hours and let the music play when I first got there. The music at dragonhead and white brim is pretty horrible. But the field track is great.

The more important question we should be asking here is why Ishgard hasn't been implemented yet. Screw new hard mode dungeons, screw more coil turns, screw more primals, screw more relic quests, and screw mor dhona changes. Ishgard should have been something released shortly after 2.0 release. It's been left hanging since the release of 1.0! I remember exploring Coerthas in the 1.0 beta, seeing Ishgard in the distance and thinking about how I was gonna go there the first chance I got on release. A year went by, then two, then 2.0. Do you know how disappointed I was when I found out Ishgard wasn't implemented? AGAIN? Almost 3 years and still no Ishgard. One of the main reasons why I quit.

The problem is that only the northern part (central highlands) is ingame. Maybe the lowlands are still green, if they come back.

That's really the big dealbreaker for you? A city zone that will become "just another city" after a single day?

I want to see Ishgard someday too, but to me, "no Ishgard" ranks up there with "no Viera" as odd things to drive someone to want to quit the game.

2.4 - shiva fights near coerthas
2.5 - coerthas less snowy now that we defeated Shiva

You're probably right. It's better that it doesn't happen as I'm pretty sure the devs will do their best to make the place as disappointing as possible if they do decide to add it. It'll be as soulless and shallow as most of 2.0.

My only regret is that we'll probably only ever see an Ishgard influenced by 2.0's less than interesting game design.
