played 2.0. dw was a toughy, but hes a damn joke now. they make these cool old time bosses from previous games and dw dies before he does his final phases like he is nothing. that sad coz demon wall is a pretty cool guy in other FF's nw look @ him here in FFXIV getting wrecked hard up his ass lol.

also ilvl things are killing it a bit, i agree. i even dummy down my gear to the ilvl i could be in brayflox for example...just to struggle a bit.

Square has said that older content will slowly be made easier, one way or another, in order to assist newer players in 'catching up' to what's currently intended to be the endgame. Given that Amdapor and Wanderer's Keep are nowhere near as 'central' to progression as they were when first introduced, and their rewards comparatively weaker now, it makes sense.

I totally agree with you on personally reducing iLvl; I've done it a few times myself.

Either way, if the current set of content is feeling 'easy', it means it's time to move onto harder stuff, because you're probably ready for it.

HM dungeons is not really even endgame lol, i do believe the hardcores would count those as casual content that everyone can do. Ya new dungeons are challenging the first day they come out in patches, but they are quickly turned into speedruns by the end of the week. The only really tough "endgame" content in the game really is Coil & X-primals.

Because the game has alot of assholes and pricks that have zero tolerance for anything that does not revolve around them getting the win because you know enmity makes everyone brave when sitting behind a monitor or tv screen. As long as you have a FC or linkshell to play with its not hard because your learning in a pressure free environment.

This game would be easy if all you ever had to do was rely on your own skill but sadly it doesn't work that way and that's what makes the game hard especially if you like to solo a lot, after all you're basically introduced as an adventurer where the world is your oyster but you quickly get disillusioned when content starts getting too hard to do for others at your stage of the game.

He.. i was with one of those "epic good players", who constantly is posting on this forum how easy the game is, in DF the other day and well... he was not that great actually. Constantly blaming the other 7 people for his own mistakes, yelling and swearing and then left because apparently everyone but him sucked. :rolleyes: I think some people need a reality-check lol.

One of the things that surprises me from the many wipes I've experienced in Garuda EX, Titan EX, Leviathan EX, Thornmarch Ex, Turn 1, and some couple of dungeons is how uncreative some dps/healers/tanks can be.

I've seen so many 2% wipes that could have been avoided if the healer had popped their level 3 limit break. The excuse always ends up being, "I don't have it on my bar" or "It's pointless because we needed the level 3 damage LB". It's times like these I wish the LB was individual or shared between "roles". Bards being the biggest offenders since they keep on dpsing and never bothering after a whole minute or two.

Just as many wipes could have been prevented if the tank could have "kited" the moment he realized the healers where dead and allowed for enough time for the DPS to drop the bosses remaining 2% HP.

As for DPS, some BLM don't off heal, buff (E4E), and debuff if needed, some SMN can't bother themselves to swiftcast rez/heal/buff/cc, drg/mnk can't bother themselves to hit sprint and kite, most bards don't bother kiting they just give up.

The biggest offender in this situation, parsers. People care so much about their DPS that they forget that there's more that the game has to offer in terms of survivability. Which is why I love turn 6. Yet the difficulty spike will always revolve around some players selfishness.

Troll or not I do feel there are too many instant/near death mechanics. I have no issues having to dodge but one tiny lag spike and you'll find yourself taking a dirt nap. Instant death/near death mechanics feel like an artificial way to inflate the difficulty of an encounter. Primals both story and hm are fine, well except for Titan (I'm sure many of us are still traumatized by the struggle to get our zenith weapons) Extreme modes however...they have taken it a little too far.

Do we REALLY need 90% of Titan's platform covered in both Landslides and bombs at the same time?

My problem isn't with difficulty it's the mechanics themselves. I feel more like we're fighting our own Latency than the boss and that's not how a boss is supposed to be.

I hate to say it but perhaps they should take a look at some of the more interesting bosses in WoW. Very few instant death mechanics (at least until the stat inflation became too high) Karazhan for instance had some fun boss battles. The Opera bosses were hilarious. I'm looking at you Wizard of Oz. That fight was pretty much controlled chaos, and another was just pure humor with the big bad wolf turning someone into a little female gnome with a red cap so he can chase them. Naturally there were more serious fights after all, Karazhan really had one of the best atmospheres in WoW to date.

funny enough the main difficult in boss fights comes from the same stuff. huge attacks that (almost) kill you if you dont mitigate or evade them. learn the patterns and it'll become manageable. Just that FFXIV requires 8 ppl to do this at once, making it way harder for the individual, because it is beyond one's own abilities.

I played XI for 3 years. Even soloing a blm to lvl 60 is wayyyyy harder than any of the content I've done so far. Not that I'm complaining I don't need every game to be that hard but just based on my experience of playing these two games, claiming that XIV is in any way tough is kinda... funny.

Looks different to me. OP is actually talking about "Endgame", as in Coil and Ex-Primals. I don't think this thread is about any of the Fetch-Quests, or Satasha Runs.

If you have trouble with memorization, fast twitch reflexes, and lag/latency then, yes, this game will be way more difficult than it is for some other players. Not impossible, but it will take way longer to get through certain fights. Finding patient people to work with is key. After that, it's just repeatedly trying (I would suggest not in the DF, that's just a source of grief.) :)

If you have studied the fight, know the mechanics and know your role its other people holding you back and some people are just hopeless at this game. The amount of times I try to help people and they throw it in your face is unbelievable.

Then there is people putting English in the duty finder and can't speak or understand a word your saying on top of having no clue in the fight.

The game itself is perfectly tuned, I think. The hard part is finding 7 other people that have a brain, aren't playing on a toaster, and aren't still playing with dial-up.

The only difficulty I've seen in this game so far, is tolerating the obnoxiously slow learning curve of the people I'm stuck playing with.

All the close fights I've been in are usually because DDs can't meet the dps check. Usually happens in Moogle and Levi. Healer lb limit doesn't work for me unless it's Garuda Ext or rare occasion Titan because of the dps checks. If you pop a healer lb 3 in Ifrit, means you're not taking down all the nails, Twintania LB needs to be used for AOE snakes, Levi 4 AOE LB spumes, etc. Phase/rotation battles are just way too rigid in this game.

But I do find it a less to memorize, just more work to get there as a whole seeing you gotta actually level sub jobs, get the spells and level skill levels. (on a mage, for melees you just needed skill levels and subjobs.) :x

Edit: To explain what skill level is, it's basically leveling and getting better at certain aspects or with certain weapons. So for example, if you were a red mage and wanted to level debuffing.. you'd debuff a monster a million times of almost equal level or higher of which your skill level is.

A Healer's LB is instant compared to a damage LB that takes time to execute. It's safer to pop a Healer LB especially now that res has an immunity timer.

As for the use of LB's you're just explaining the "optimal" uses because of quick n efficient runs do them in those portions. They aren't needed especially in Levi Ex where you can use meteor on Head/Tail and 2 plumes instead and not having to worry about the group popping all 4 plumes and causing a wipe or Meteor itself causing the wipe.

All that stuff you mentioned I find fun and enjoy doing though. Leveling subjobs to improve your versatility, having things to look forward to buying on auction house, certain skills needed or makes battles easier, etc. FFXIV right not is pretty bland and rigid. Just look at gear like say for whm. The secondary stats don't matter much at all and there's nothing unique about them. There's nothing to look forward to except gear that add more of the plain stats.

Doesn't matter if they are instant or not when DD lbs are the best route to go due to all the DPS checks.

I love how people simplified battles in ffxi, first consider this in order to deal damage in ffxi you had to memorize this

I agree, a lot more is straightforward here and jobs aren't as flexible as a dps class being able to tank because one skill/spell avoids dmg. :x

I also agree some of it was quite enjoyable but I do like FFXIV and some of it's straightforward ways as well.

I like that I don't have to spend hours collecting 200 necklaces or 100 ores to get a single spell... I mean back then it was fun but now? I can't really find the hours to spend like that so I rather be bland and straightforward, using some of my hours than to use a ton of hours to get anywhere really.

I also didn't like feeling the need to subjob a certain job to do endgame because that was the more common method but thats a different topic and a rather more personal feelers subject there that I won't get into.

(Yeah I know theres 'one path' normally for healers and other classes but least you could go 30 vit w/ all mind gear or hybrid sch/smn bonus stats with gear you need.) :/

Edit: Nope I won't say then quit the game if ffxiv is bland btw, I personally feel we are having a friendly debate on different views about two different games and well you like one more than the other. (Just felt like pointing that out seeing the more likely comment would be "then go back to ffxi if you like it so much" or something like that?) I really respect your opinions and personal feelings, I just see it a bit differently is all. :)

It does matter. Also DPS LB is the "optimal" alternative doesn't mean you're forced to do it every time.

Come on guy, you play this game too. How often do you even have LB3 up for healer to save everyone? Besides Garuda and Titan, hardly ever. If you do use healer LB3, then pretty much you're just messing around and made your party have to spend gil for repairs

You're not doing anything different in this game. You're grinding dungeons to farm myths/soldiery/etc. You're grinding Fates for Atma. MMO's will have grind regardless of what type because new content will never be released fast enough to satisfy the player base and the only way to keep players playing is to create time sinks. So it just becomes whether the time sink is fun to you or not. You get items faster in FFXIV but the items you usually get becomes outdated in less than a day or week. Kill Garuda bland weapon drops, then next kill Ifrit replaced the bland Gar weapon with the bland Ifrit weapon. You can skip like 10 levels or so of gear while leveling up and heck you don't even need to get your AF armor.

Grind isn't what FFXI fans are asking for anyways. It's more diversity and complexity. Everyone in FFXIV basically has the same gear and same rotations.

Unfortunately no one's actually used it seriously since 2005 or earlier. I started playing in '06 and when asked about skill chains, I was told to "Just go." When I got to Sky, I was again told, "Just go." It was a fun mechanic the few times I did get to use it but it was quickly abandoned for the spam method. Except for the career sam's who'd have their special macro for when they 2 hour.

I did it still in '07. At least in sky. Double light skillchain can do 2k-5k extra damage, then add the damage from the magic bursts to that. Of course, we had a lot of mages in our LS.

Then in the 30-40s you had THF SATA Viper Bite and close a distortion, with MB on that, it could take up to 75% of the mobs life.

Think it was used heavily on Wyrms also.

it was still being used as recently as 2014 with the release of the mob Kurma when it first came out the most effective way to kill it was to use a skillchain magic burst combo.

Well, the role you play will dictate how much you need to memorize a fight. (e.g. EXTREME, HM, etc.)

For an example, trying going in blind as a tank in TITAN EXTREME.. I guarantee you won't have a good time.

So yeah, you should probably work on memorizing fights , according to the job you play.
