Would you have said the same if I'd called anti-interracial marriage people misguided?
It's not calling people names. It's pointing out that their attitude towards other human beings is faulty.

Well you say that, but if you try to force how a system works, they could just fight back doubly hard. We have to use diplomacy and take time with things. I'm not saying we have to shut up and wait, but we can't force people to change their minds so quickly. That will just turn them hostile and virulent.
I want same-sex marriage in FFXIV as much as you do. But if you try to force it on a populace that isn't ready for it, all that's gonna happen is that violence is going to erupt, and I'm not ready to deal with a bunch of homophobes ruining my gaming experience.
Please show me all the violence that erupted from other games implementing marriage without gender restrictions.
@Mcshiggs: I'd appreciate a bit less condescension. It's always the same with these things... people supporting same-sex marriage express their displeasure over restrictions, and other folk come in and claim we're insulting people or screaming or throwing fits... just because we speak up. Stop it.
I of course would have said the same thing. It is a matter of ethics and morality, and I don't see how insulting someone's ethics can ever be the right way to go. If you want to sway people to your way of thinking, you are much more likely to with showing them what you think is right about what you think, not what you think is wrong about theirs.
I don't know why same sex marriage is such an issue in this game.
You called other people's opinions misguided and their attitude toward other humans faulty, just because they don't agree with you. I'm not saying anything about your views, I am saying things about how you insult others about their views. You have been doing what you are claiming others are doing to you, I have not once said if I agree or disagree with your outlook on same sex marriage, my issue is how you talk down and insult people that don't share your view.
Yet another pointless feature honestly if people want this so much play Sims but I guess it's something people want and I have no problem with it until they turn around and make it a requirement for relic upgrades.
This is so bad...why do poeple always want marriage in these games? Let's just add mortgage too while we are at it. You can have kids too!
This is fantasy game not real life. If you want to add marriage just don't call it marriage call it like "life bond" or something then you can "life bond" whoever you want and avoid the whole heteronormative BS.
Attitudes like that only manage to set back whatever cause you think you're championing. You can't force a person to think or feel a certain way, and trying will get you a lot of bad will at best, and cause a violent backlash at worst.
The correct way to 'change a society's mind' is slowly, over time. It's the nature of culture that each younger generation becomes more open-minded than the last. In our grandparents' generation, even SPEAKING about homosexuality was just Not Done, let alone considering that same-sex marriage might one day be made legal. By the time our grandchildren are our age, they'll find it hard to believe anyone made a big deal over it.
Of course, I do want same-sex marriage included in the game, but the way to get it is to be polite but persistent; FFXIV's team is remarkably receptive to the opinions and requests of the community.
If they aren't adding same-sex marriages then they aren't doing it right. And if they aren't doing it right, I'd rather them not do it at all.
So if I fantasia myself to female, get married to my long term bf and fantasia back to a version of me with the fun parts, can we still be married if the ring item is still in the inventory?
Eh, you think that's stupid what about this idea that people wanted?
If there's a demand, then it's not stupid.
PS. The party finder is actually representation of a real life job board. You'll notice postings asking of previous experience and what not... LIKE A REAL JOB.
By comparing someone's opinion, it wasn't even my post they were insulting, to an incorrect math problem let's me know you of course would be offended if someone told you were wrong because of your beliefs, or that your look at humanity was flawed. Remember I never said anything for or against the issue, I simply stated that insulting people was not the way to go to try to get your point across. If you want to use math to try to describe this, try any number divided by zero. 4/0, 36/0, 73/0, anything will work because the answer is that there is no answer. When you deal with people's opinions there is no right or wrong, there is what you believe and what they do.
Y'know, out of all the games I played, the only MMO's where there have been "issues" about same-sex anything are the games where the DEVELOPERS themselves make it a big deal.
SWTOR and FF14!
Trion did not come out and make some sort of announcement regarding same sex, they patched it into the game and that was that. No fuss
ZOS LAUNCHED with it, said nothing and there was no fuss
Bioware and Yoshi: "Oh we don't know if the player base will react well to it, we don't want any controversy"
Controversy ensues.
Gives me hope that maybe one day I'll find a woman who is also the pure embodiment of Action, and that one day we'll be able to fuse together in matrimony. Colliding like two great heavenly bodies known as Galaxies, our dual forces pulling each other in and causing a shock wave which shatters the very time space continuum, folding upon its self and forging a new Galaxy, one where the stars shine brighter, the kicks fly higher, the punches hit harder, and the Action never ends.
This is silly. They shouldn't add marriage at all if they're going to add such unnecessary restrictions.
Male Roe and Fem Lala. Look forward to it !!
I made a gay marriage post on the forums a few months ago because Yoshida had brought up the subject so I thought they would like some feedback. Although I personally don't agree with it, I felt it rather disturbing how upset people go over it in a game.
every time it gets brought up here a mod ultimately locks or at worse removes the thread because it turns into a shit fight… I'm at a loss to understand why they are even bringing it in just causes more debates/ arguments allow same sex or straight only blah blah blah.. heres a smart thing wait right before the patch goes live and drop the particulars in the patch notes...
such as waste of resources, devote time to "real" content instead of this garba*e. I feel also the same with Personal housing.
Been saying this crap since beta.
As for on topic, it would be in SE"s best interest to scrap the word "marriage" as marriage is a practice of a religion that doesn't exist in Eorzea. This way they can avoid controversy and allow those of the same gender to enjoy the company of the other. Screw social norms and morality, this a video game.
I love how quickly this topic derailed haha. Besides that, I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE WEDDING ATTIRE AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. -end
That is the best solution. "Marriage" is way too much bonded to religions and people's mind about sexuality, that it calls for trouble in any way it is done.
Making something "assimilable" to it but unique to the game, and maybe attached to lore, will be great. In the end, the result we all want is make a special bond between our character and another, right? :)
Always a bridesmaid and never a bride?
Straight people do the same, it just isn't as noticeable because it is considered "normal". I agree that LGBT people can get overzealous in their cause, but it is a just one. And in 2014, in a video, where nothing matters, there really is no excuse to not have it.
These type of people would call FF14 an abomination will do that anyway. They also you know wouldn't buy the game, because you know, magic, paganism commentary on the military industrial complex. However people who support gay Marriage might randomly decide to go "hey I'll try that game because it has it"
