Leaving the game

I've never understood why people lash out at those that post a leaving thread. I'm not sure where the insecure need comes from to insult someone for leaving a video game. I don't know if them leaving threatens people.. or somehow invalidates their decision to stay and play. It's very odd.

I wonder if people act this way when their friends leave a birthday party or some other social gathering and they go around saying goodbye - "Fine, leave no one cares!"... I mean... really?

To the OP- Keep an eye on patches and updates! You might see something that brings ya back!

If the friend left saying "I'm leaving because your cake is chocolate and chocolate is crappy," as opposed to just leaving, I'd be probably say that.

The progress that focuses on more "difficult" or longer lasting fights with more mechanics that makes it an overall tedious experience were only the "elite" can seem to enjoy something that will happen with many major MMO's.
Not saying that it's a wrong model to approach but it is a model that requires so much attention that other aspects get delayed, overlooked, and simply forgotten.

It is not always the case, in my honest opinion, but with over 10 years of MMO experience I've only ever sat down and truly enjoyed 4 MMO's and 2 of those are for the simple fact that overall it was an overall fun experience yet I was restricted to those enjoyments due to family and friends in which I was spent to put up and tolerate an MMO that literally went to hell once end game appeared, that being World of Warcraft.

These 4 MMO's that I enjoyed, ranked from most enjoyable are Ragnarok Online, Wakfu, FFXI, and FFXIV.

Ragnarok Online is still progressive as an MMO they have added a lot of new zones, MvPs, weapons, cards (you may know as materia), and a lot of new jobs. They have introduced 3rd jobs to their game and new unique jobs that may never even see a 2nd job let alone a 3rd job any time soon.
As far as jobs go I enjoy their progression format and I enjoy the diversity you can take with their talent tree. A top slotted gear and unique monsters cards, which you know in this game as materia, it allows for many diverse builds. Sure there's cookie cutter builds but if you truly want to be unique you have to really work for it by collecting cards to place all over your gear to make those unique set ups work.
Their open world dungeon format is one I enjoy as well. I would really love for FFXIV to incorporate something like this to appeal to those that desire open world dungeon content in the near future.
As an example of this lets just say the following zones in Sagolli Desert and Boulder Downs had entrances to a open dungeon zone. There is no restriction in the amount of people that can enter outside of the amount of stress it can handle and can be spread either through levels or simply being very large zone equivalent to most maps. The deeper you go the stronger and more aggressive the mobs gets. Eventually hiding the zones MvP in the deepest regions of the zone or within packs of mobs you have to clear. Everything at the entrance of these zones can be soloable and farmable. Yet as you go deeper you'll need a party and eventually you'll need certain set up or alliance to kill those MvP. They don't necessarily have to be huge either. Yet a certain tag before their name to indicate that they are MvPs would be more than enough. What I've learned that works the best is that those mobs drop unique items with long lasting affect in the game for the current content/expansion. The downside is that it will not be easy to obtain the drop rate for the gear itself should be low (not .2% but 20%), the respawn of these MvPs should be restricted to time (2hrs tops) and individually as well per participant (daily). How that loot gets distributed I leave that up to them.

Seeing as how I ranted to much I'll keep the rest as short as possible.

With Wakfu lets just say in its current state is basically ARR, minus the graphics of course, but with diversity in builds and I'll just leave it at that. Since diversity in builds is something I personally feel the FF franchise needs in the MMO sense.

FFXI did so many things right but it is hard to enjoy when it is a tedious experience to get through all the content. I loved the stories on just about everything, main story, side story, quest story, job progression story, etc., Jobs, Sub-Jobs, open world, PvP. events (ex: besieged). Yet the amount it took to get there, the amount it took to do content, everything was a long grind. It was an overall chore to experience. It was worth it yet it was a chore worse than farming Atma, imho. Yet it was worth doing until end game came around.

Now what do these 3 games have in common with FFXIV? Fun. Everything post end game is worth enjoying.
Enjoying the main storyline. Being able to revisit that storyline at the inn and being able to experience it differently with dual-audio is just great. Unlocking a job you want to play. Experiencing the story it has to offer a fascinating experience. Doing the end-game dungeons, doing the primals fights, doing the main scenario fights, doing CT and Binding coil of Bahamut all worth it. Seasonal Events, compilation storylines FATES (none FFXIIII for me though) and beast-men dailies bring it.
Yet once we reach end game there's gonna be a lot of focus on making the game more difficult and challenging and a lot more focus on those selected few that want tiresome headbanging experiences known as raids.

That is fine I don't mind it when it comes just to raids but everyone else ends up getting overlooked in the process. Eventually it goes spiraling down where people will rush the new content to rush towards the new raids. How many people can say they experienced the main scenario story presented in 2.2 without skipping the cutscenes and overlooking the text and lore just to do Leviathan and unlocked Levi Ex? Simply to get that ilvl95 weapon and rush an ilvl100 weapon for the second binding coil of Bahamut. When the second CT gets introduced who will be the target audience? When will open world be looked into and what direction can we expect from it? Will balance be a major issue with releasing future classes and jobs and avoiding new diversities over simply bringing them forward for people to enjoy?

I can go on but OP even though I feel ya you're judging a game in its initial stages of relaunch too harshly. I know that it's hard to envision a future with a patch per patch preview. A lot of what the team is wanting to release is still far apart and what they have release has targeted different demographics which you might not be a part of or be slightly targeted. Yet before an expansion is announced with what that expansion will have is still "up in the air". We only get small glimpses of details for the next major patch that we can't really "visually" feel and grasp yet we know they are coming.

So even though you may be leaving. Don't give up hope and do look back into FFXIV from time to time.

The OP started a thread in December complaining that the game was too easy. In less than five months they pull a 180 and claim the game is too hard now? After some pretty heavy nerfs no less? And you expect people to take them seriously?

The only battle that I would like to be fixed is Titan hard and extreme, I know is just a pattern but if you have latency issues you almost have to guess when to start moving, because the "way of the land" or whatever is called is too short that even when I move I get hit, I end up dead far from the AoE, so yeah that's frustrating, maybe if they added an extra second to every titan skill, could be fixed. I prefer by far difficulties like Garuda or coil, haven't beat the T5, but at least the fight is more of skill and knowing what to do, so yeah they should consider fights that needs some skill and not a good internet connection.

Ask a million people and you'll get a million and one reasons.

As someone that has worked jobs involving technical support, billing, and other related issues, I have an extremely short tolerance for "I'm unhappy, I'm leaving." We didn't have a retention policy, so if they were on "screw you, I'm leaving," then I didn't care and canceled whatever they wanted, gave any refund if applicable, thanked them for their time and sent them on their way. If they're throwing a tantrum, then I don't feel like dealing with them. Now, if its someone that was interested in giving feedback, then I handled it completely differently.

"Its too hard," or "its broken," is what I'd call "useless information." It doesn't help me in any way, shape, or form. I disregard it. All those bug reports have templates for a reason; to make it easy to cut down on time trying to find the answers. The way I see it, if you don't have time to go through a channel or follow a protocol, you don't want it fixed. I don't have time to go digging through stuff and trying to put an incoherent rant together. ^__^

Working for tech companies, the lack of any sort of response on hot topics often means that things are being analyzed. If they don't outright say something, they are prepared to deal with it.

How is that relevant at all to being mean at someone leaving? Probably just an overly aggressive way of saying "well, if you can't bother to explain yourself, peace out." Unnecessary, sure.

Also, some people just have to be cruel to anything that looks like a cry for attention. Like posting purposely vague statuses on Facebook. Your mileage may vary.

Obviously, I won't miss the OP on the grounds I mentioned before, but those reasons are probably why people feel the urge to belittle posts like these.

I agree with you. The fights are either extremely easy with 8 great people or completely impossible otherwise. Plus, not only did they add an annoying grind with Atma, but they messed up gearing too thanks to the stupid Myth books. It's slow as heck gaining Myth for i90 gear because they didn't want people to get the books too fast. They should have made the books cost Sol tomes so the people more interested in getting all of their jobs i90 gear could have done so at a faster pace. I love a lot of the AF2 gear and it's sad that spamming BC is a much better option thanks to what they did to myth.

Honestly, I don't really feel like logging in at all now. Pre 2.2, I hated missing a single day.

1. Game is geared towards those with superior connectivity: I think that's implied when the game is so graphics intensive. Why do you think there's such an issue going on with the PS3 version? You paid for something you did not fully understand, well then that is pretty much your fault, not the developers.

2. Game is geared towards those with hardcore playability: The developers of this game are Asian. Asian MMOs are notorious for their grind implementations. Grinding is the Asian way. Play some free to play games like Rapplez (a Korean designed MMO) and you will see true grind horror. This game's grind needs are not as bad. Again, you paid for something you did not fully understand. Not the developers' fault.

So I guess the latency/delay/whatever the issue is that makes the fights in this game so frustrating hasn't changed in the past few months.

Graphics intensive? Could you please explain how it is related?
(Because as far as hardware is concerned, this game is much easier to run than most mmos I've seen. But I'm guessing that's not what you are referring to. I was playing GW2 before FFXIV with no connecxion/lag/delay problem whatsoever, but the game was much harder on my computer, FFXIV is smooth in comparision, but the delay/lack of responsiveness is just down right frustrating)


Which leads to the "difficulty" matter some are mocking here: if you changed the servers and got freeze every 10 seconds, I'm sure all fights in the game would be much much harder (and challenging). Somehow, I doubt many people would be happy with this kind of "difficulty" though. Just an example.

If you have issues with the game post them. We don't need to know you are quitting because this issue.

My server feels empty. I think it's time for a server merger. Usually there's only 3-4 content pf groups and 3-4 atma farming groups on at any time. After 9pm pst ish it's completely dead.

And I can direct you to Runescape and Everquest. Regardless all MMO's require a stable and reliable connection, not superior connectivity, that's been true for over a decade and both PC and Console gamers should know this by now if they have been exposed to it long enough. If you have a decent ISP and you still have issues then it can be server side only thing to do there is try and be closer to where the main server is and try and better your own connection stability.

MMO's have grinds for longevity reasons. You'll see them in just about every MMORPG in their owns ways for their own reasons. Yet it can be implemented in many ways to appeal to both the hardcore and elitist crowds (current end-game raids and extreme fights) and it can also be made to appeal to a more casual fun desiring crowd through dungeons and open world dungeons (which the game doesn't have yet unless we want to consider Crystal Tower a very small step into that direction.)

ARR is still in it's early stages and there's been a lot of content since launch and has approached many aspects that would other wise been ignored, such as crafting and gathering. I'd agree though that over these past 2 major patches 2.1 and 2.2 longevity has been heavily focused on the hardcore crowd. Not saying the casual crowd has been neglected because they haven't. Yet the content offered here aren't as long lasting and progressive. CT, Dungeons, Beast Tribe Dailies, Hildebrand, Main Scenario, Treasure Hunting, Seasonal Events, Crossover Events, and Retainer Ventures.

I'm looking forward to the Golden Saucer it may just be the pastime many of us will need.

You call yourself a gamer, I beaten so many rpg even if the bosses were too strong or almost impossible the rush you get after you win is great on so many levels ive jumped out of my chair screaming YEAH!! in your face F this F that screw you, Quitting is for non gamers.

There is no direct relationship between graphics and network latency. Graphics are handled at the client end and are not part of the data sent between server and client. My system has never had any issues with the graphics or framerate, but i was having severe latency issues when in dungeons right after 2.2 went live. That was fixed within days. Normally i have very little lag, but i can understand how frustrating it can be when experiencing latency issues.

Me and several other people who completed atma think that this whole grind was created solely as an excuse to repopulate failed fates (on my server almost noone was doing them except coertas area). Probably SE will dramatically increase drop and spawn rate of fates because currently noone likes the way they work.
EX primals (except garuda) were just designed bluntly ignorant for western market (west is not japan where everyone probably have similar low ping) and i see no solution to this.
But there are much more serious matters that destroy high and endgame, such as too fast progression and echo buff. I think a large part of SE playerbase will stay around just to kill time, but leave as soon as any other decent mmo comes out.
Story past 2.0? Only primals keep reviving again and again, because they are immortal and will revive... again.
New dungeons? Amdapor City, can run it once or twice and forget.
Coil is too hard for randoms and comes into what i call a destroyed endgame (like tanks in ex primals/coil who would only use FoF or berserk).
But i keep playing because there are a plenty of ways to deal with these issues (for now). SE will either understand what shift in the play style it caused and correct it (i highly doubt) or keep casualing everything and making profit on game box sales instead of subscriptions.

You are wrong and so are your friends, I have been doing fates before atma was around and people still did them, now they just do them even more I even heard people complaining they cannot level low levels because fates disappear too fast.

The real reason they did it was to slow your progression that way you couldn't kill content before they could produce it but you guys gotta have everything now now now now like a little kid kicking and screaming for candy in a store.

To be honest they did this, so SE can say to new players (PS4) LOOK AT ALL THOSE PLAYERS DOING FATES ( Show that a lot of players play the game):p. However, them slowing people's progression is an added bonus to them.

people would of been doing fates regardless so that isn't it, new people join everyday and people swapped from ps3 > ps4 and already had high levels.

At least on my server, before Atma, I don't see many people doing FATEs, most do Dungeons ( where they are hidden and can't be seen by the server pop.)

Anyone who complains about fates are the ones who want it easy. So far this is what I get when I say something about that.

"its not that we want it easy" "I just don't wanna grind fates for all my weapons we don't want easy at all"

Dungeons you complete and doesn't drop 20 dungeons through you'll say same thing I don't wanna grind it.

Extremes same thing, then you ask then what do you want you guys have no answer because you want it handed to you ive seen higher the drop rate.

I come to conclusion that you guys are no gamers but spoiled too used to getting what you want you keep begging whining till they break down and give you it for free with out hurdles to jump, then the next thing they make you'll cry again and next the cry again.

because you want it handed to you, like I said no hurdles to jump over for your gear or items.

even if you say "no we don't" then why you whining on forums for change? give me a good answer because you want it now for all jobs faster than you're getting it which is easier.

the difficult i have in this game is with randomly pugs doing extreme battles but other then that is fine.
Latency sucks yea but i find way to solve my problems with that, and so far it works and no more lag.

I'm sure the fact that Atmas are placed in all the zones that were dead on fates is just a coincidence. The fact that the areas that had the most fate activity, ie Coerthas, don't have Atmas has nothing to do with it. /sarcasm
Atma was created as a way to populate the barren Fate areas, no matter how any tries to spin it.
It slowing progression, as someone said, is just killing two birds with one stone.

Virtually every Fate zone was completely dead with little to no Fate activity except for Coerthas and SOMETIMES Costa Del Sol.
There have been Threads about it and lowbie FC members complained about it daily because they can't really use them to level.
My friends on JP servers say that they see people doing them regularly, but this appears to be the minority.

I'm a gamer and as much as I like FFXIV, but I will have to disagree with you. If I no longer find a game fun or interesting I will quit playing it. What you are describing is a certain type of gamer one who plays for attention, we call them achievement/trophy whores.

Honestly, the only time I ever legitimately, genuinely wish people the best when posting these threads is if they are very polite and are leaving due to real-life reasons despite wanting to continue to play.

Threads like this are just so... shallow. Enjoy whatever game you go to next, because every time you leave an MMO, all you're doing is just reducing your options for the next time.

I guess the games hard, it's really just a memorized dance that if you havent memorized it you get treated like shit. I'm an old gamer but I play cod and get 30-10 kd ratio, I'm good at video games. I'm not good at memorizing boss fight after boss fight while being dependant on 7 other players. I really wanna stay playing ff cause it looks so cool compared to when I played 7 in 6th grade but if it's just this I might try something else

And everyone that says its not hard, yeah going to work everyday and being a contributing member of society is hard, being a fuckstick in a video game thinking you're good cause it's your life, yeah that really isn't hard

It's odd that SE put so much rng in everything except boss mechanics.
Like in monster hunter games you can have the best gear but you would still need to be cautious as the monster can surprisingly combo and kill you with something you normally would dodge/ block.
The monsters were predictable but to an extent where you couldn't just face roll and do a "dance" .
It's going to be rough in the later years of ff14arr as all the other players will have left and only the endgame raiders will be left where everyone knows everyone and all content that is not coil/ whatever is the highest / up to date primals will be forgotten.
I blame all these near 1 shot kill attacks that bosses do.
It's asking way too much for most of the playerbase lol hence y there are a lot of complaining threads? :0

My raid leader is a pharmacist. My raid group has both people who work full time and people in school/higher education and we consider most content easy. This generalization of "all good gamers have no life" is a joke. I'm starting to think some people say it because they're jealous. :/

I work full time, and my progress is slow in the game but the "road blocks" I have are the same as the people who dedicate hours of their day to the game. Difficult content requires learning and it takes time to learn, and just because I don't have the luxury of time to learn much I don't stress myself out over it and mark the game is unplayable/difficult. There is so much stuff to do anyway :p

I'm confused...for the most part I've completed all the content except for coil and extreme modes. those I accept aren't easy one pass instances. Soooo why are you complaining about optional content?
