They should just drop PS4 players now and give them a 50% coupon off a high-end gaming PC, or something. PS4 players are handicapped! :p

I'm curious as to how soon that will appear in the PF. :/ I might start it in a couple of weeks. lmao xD
I never said I couldn't clear content you morons. Where did you read that? I have cleared it. Its just a struggle.
Yes. I hope others read this. I want more Titan-like fights, but we wont get them because PS3 users can't honestly compete unless they know the fight well enough to ignore what their screen says and move prior to seeing attacks. I'm not saying drop them entirely. Just let them reach the end of current content and then they will have to upgrade. Do it now and get it free. :/
"Getting on fine" and "Struggling to dodge plumes with any reliability" are two different things. Also, it's not just a "nicer looking version of the game." It doesn't lag on movement intensive fights. I never got 90K'd on PS4 past 3 days with a daily 90K on PS3. I can actually see NPC's without having to wait 3-5 seconds when I reach the spot. I didn't run into the infinite loading screen bug that PS3 has. (Doesn't mean it doesn't happen I guess.) etc.
I load faster than everyone else I played with over the weekend. :P
PS3 support will end after 3.0, sooner if the PS3 players flock to PS4 via the free game upgrade to it. Its on demands only, how many players are still playing on PS3 type thing? You want PS3 support to end why don't you start advertising how smoothe the game runs on PS4 to all PS3 players. But you arent going to get PS3 players willing to make the switch until Sony produces more games for the PS4 and thats where the issue lies with some, PS4 doesnt have the games to hold it up and neither does its nemesis the XboxOne.
Not me :p loaded the last storyline dungeons and cutscenes of 2.0 well a head of my pc counter-parts, seriously people an SSD makes a world of difference.
I admit the PS3 is limited to what it can load in a timely fashion and what it can display compared to the PC/PS4 - BUT load times and draw distances/NPC/player rendering is improved by the SSD.
No need to drop PS3 just yet IMO, not unless they wanna lose players and revenue.
I have no issues with titan extreme on ps3. Just busy fates
Similar to pulling a cart with square blocks before the circular wheel was invented. Yes, it's possible to do everything on PS3, but once you experience better, you want everyone who's been in your same situation to do so as well.
Also, dropping PS3 frees up development by not having to plan for 3 separate platforms (though PS4 and PC have the same architecture iirc so it's really two platforms). Creating content that is, in essence, limited by technology is not ideal for any company. They're going to support PS3 until the expansion and, I'd guess, 6 months or so after that. Then they'll probably stop catering to the limitations of that system and, like another poster said, stop patching the system. However, the PS4 is not selling well in Japan so this might also delay them from suspending PS3 support if that doesn't change.
Most people upgrade PC parts for $2-$400 in a 6 year period so...I don't understand this point.
Blow the dust out of the PS3 that's been collecting over the last X years. Install a 64 GB SSD for 50$ let the PS3 live on.
I upgraded to an SSD back in November in preperation for hitting end-game since I was expecting to hit it much sooner (life got in the way), got a realitively cheap pre-owned one myself. Also I'm suggesting the upgrade to an SSD as an alternative for the players who cant afford a PS4 (such as myself) and those who dont want to lose/use their PS3's in trading-in for a PS4 - again like me, I have far to many games still left to play in my collection lol.
only real issue i have had and still do on PS3 is dreadful load times and now with this update get load locks at times.
By the time it loads up and Ct is bad for this someone could have hit need on gear already which is very frustrating.
Oh and Castrum and Prae are a nightmare because of it as well :(
I do expect the PS4 to not have these issues based on what i have seen on the beta
I am a console gamer I still have my PS3 (had two of them) and I have my PS4 as well as various other consoles (not bragging or downing since some are not able to afford keeping their older consoles and upgrading to the new systems).
That said I don't think support for the ps3 should be dropped anytime soon but I do however agree that the gameplay on the ps4 was IMHO what ps3 players are truly looking for in this game, its what the game should be like on all systems if they were able to play at their peak. any ps3 player that tries out the ps4 version and doesn't see a huge difference in the game is simply crazy. Don't get me wrong I am not saying a system should determine your ability in the game (I have cleared coil 1-5, EX's and new HM dungeons on ps3) but playing on the ps4 allowed for much easier gameplay, content seemed to flow much smoother and fights were even easier than I remember them on PS3.
Support for PS3 should continue at least for the next couple years but every ps3 player should consider moving to ps4 as soon as they reasonably and financially can, the difference is just that huge that you are simply holding yourself back from enjoying the game the way it should be.
This was already covered, but.
As someone that plays both PS3/PC, it is noticeable. Will it stop me from playing both as long as it is supported (or until I get a PS4), nope.Quote:
Our aim has always been to develop the game so that players can have the same experience no matter which hardware they play on. However, if we were to become too fixated on this and become unable to innovate, then this will cease to be a FF game. So I do not plan to say that we will support the PS3 version forever. At the same time, I'm not saying that we'll be ending support by next year or anything like that either, so don't worry.
PS3 version will be supported until at least 3.0
SSD, it makes a diff. Honestly my ps3 loads faster than my ps4. just doesnt look as pretty.
They have a pretty poor precedent with this. They would rather hinder the game for additional platforms than cut their losses. FFXI was a pretty stellar example. The PS2's continued support cause a LOT of problems for the game, and even though it was something like 0.8% of the total population, they were content with updates taking 3x as long as they should and many things being impossible due to it's archaic structure.
That being said, I don't think the PS3 is to that point yet, although I don't understand why anyone would play on a PS3, they haven't been halting progress for them yet.
3.0 don't hold your breath at this pace. It's 2 whole years of patches before we even get to 3.0 sooo... Yeah.
"free" plus the cost of a PS4. I don't have $400 laying around. I don't even have an extra $100 for a SSD for my PS3. But you know what? I do just fine. Sure, load times are a bit slow. But I also have 4 Atmas and my static raid group was farming T4 last night for gear. I only had lag issues once, and I'm guessing that's because of my internet connection, not my PS3 (because of how my apartment is set up, I have to use a wireless connection for my PS3). Don't ruin the game for the rest of us because you're better off than we are.
I'm not better off. I just prepared for my PS4 and started saving. Christmas was semi fruitful. $230 then I saved for 2 months and bought my PS4 end of February. You can continue to do fine too. I'm just saying come 2015 they should say no more patches for PS3.
As a ps3 player who tried the ps4 beta this weekend, I also couldn't believe how much easier it was to dodge plumes on Titan EX. On ps3 I have to pre-empt them to even have a chance at dodging, and even then it feels like 50/50. But on ps4 I can move super late and still make it out just fine. Many times I was sure i'd get hit, but nope. Before I tried it myself I never would've believed it could be so different. I'm looking forward to ps4 release even more now.
Wow, I've never seen someone who thought his opinion mattered so much. Just because you think they should stop support doesn't mean every single other player who plays on PS3 does too.
To say "oh, I saved x amount of money over 2 months and bought a ps4" doesn't mean everyone else can or even wants to. If they're fine with playing how they are, who are you to say that they need to upgrade?
But why should they have to buy a 400.00 device to play a single game? What if this is the only game they really play? To say they're forced to buy a 400.00 device in a year if they want to continue playing it is absurd. No game is worth that. This is coming from a high end pc user, too. I bought my computer for other reasons; the fact that it can run FF flawlessly is just a bonus. But I certainly wouldn't buy a 'better' PC just to play this game if my current ran it at PS3 speeds. The fact that you're insinuating they should buy a brand new system just for one game (despite it running smoother) is absurd.
To be fair, you originally said in your first post that they should cease support for PS3 next month, not next year.
You really need, and I mean REALLY need to get to grips with the fact that there are other people other than yourself that are happy on PS3 and don't want or need to switch. Not everyone who plays this game does end game content or extreme primals. Even if they do, maybe they don't mind a bit of lag here and there.
This all boils down to you having bought a PS4, and somehow think it should be law that everyone else do the same. PS3 players pay their monthly fee just like you do and I do not see why their right to play the game should be taken away. Just enjoy your game and let others enjoy theirs for crying out loud.
Oh please. This game costs me $15/month. I worked it into my budget - I just don't go out to the movies anymore. I can save $400 in 8 months, but I don't really want to spend it on a video game console. I have more practical things to spend money on. You want to know why I don't have an extra $400 laying around? Because I was sick a while back and was hospitalized for 2 weeks and missed a month of work. I'm still paying off the medical bills. I'm planning on buying a house this summer, so I'm saving money for all the expenses associated with that. I have a cat who needs dental work done. My car has started making squealing noises, so I'll have to get that checked out. I would rather do any of those things than buy a PS4. Stop judging my finances and accept the fact that not everyone gets tons of money for Christmas. A PS4 is not a priority for me, but I would like to continue playing this game in my free time.
every PS3 player that I know that has a PS4 and played beta this weekend cant bear to play on the PS3 now that beta is over. Many have said they will just take the week off (but maybe set coil times) and wait for early access for PS4 this weekend. Many PC players who have PS3 and used PS4 conversion or just tried PS4 beta are also playing but cant wait till PS4 is out for good.
PS3 does not stop you from doing anything, but it does make things more difficult than it should be. PS3 players need to play at a higher level to be competitive in some places (coil4, titan, levi, ...) and a slightly below average player on the PS3 can be a hinderance in some of these fights (they dont have the player skills to make up for the shortcomming of the system, or make the needed adjustments to compensate for the poor system). These same ppl playing on PS4 would still be average or below average, but you will see a large improvement in their skills (saw some friends who use PS3 on PS4 this weekend magically start dodging things they always failed to).
It will not be 2.3, but I would suspect 3.0 will be the last ps3 supported content. I'd like to say it would be sooner, but they are already developing 3.0 with PS3 in mind so I do not see them dropping it from current development that is already underway.
I think for SE it will be foolish move to drop PS3 anytime soon , too many players not want or not able to buy PS4 due "Country" difficultes , or just other things (like FFXI players who played & still plays on PS2 and those players represend a good amount of "Subscribers"). So in my option if SE want get game dead faster ok go ahead and burn PS3 support , i don't care tho i sit on PC lol .
People who can't afford a PS4 or a PC should be more worried about finishing school or getting a real job instead of gaming.
It's like the people I see from the ghetto with expensive sneakers and Iphones.... priorities huh.
It's not about being able to 'afford' a ps4 or PC. It's the fact that people think ps3 players should be forced to spend 400+ on a system/pc to play a game THEY'RE ALREADY PLAYING. If they don't mind the imperfect gameplay, why does it bother you so much? Their sub money counts just as much as yours. Don't think because you're on ps4 or PC it makes your sub money magically worth more than theirs.
I suspect PS3 support will be dropped around the release of the second expansion. They have already committed to supporting 3.0 (expansion 1) and it wouldn't make a lot of sense for them to suddenly drop support in the middle, so I don't think we'll see PS3 support dropped or phased out until at least 4.0.
That being said, the people saying that the PS3 isn't holding the game back at all are delusional. It's incredibly impressive to see what the team has done under the extreme technical limitations they're working under (eight year old hardware with one sixteenth the amount of general purpose RAM of a low-end laptop or PC manufactured in the past few years) but there are limits to what they can do, and until they decide to phase out support for the PS3, every single new feature or system they seek to add to the game has to be specifically designed around "how can we make this work on the PS3." The memory budget for just the user interface is so strict that the team cannot even afford to display the Focus Target UI without disabling a few other UI elements. What if they want to add other persistent UI elements as part of a future expansion or patch feature? I'm sure they've left a little bit of space in the memory budget for future features but what happens when they run out of even that?
Yoshi-P has wisely decided to not hold the game to supporting the PS3 forever, because he knows that to do so would hold the game back in the long run. And MMO development is all about "the long run". At the same time, support for the PS3 won't be going anywhere anytime soon, and you can be sure that when they make the decision to drop it they'll let the playerbase know *far* in advance.
