Yep, it's those kinds of prices on my server that initiated this thread. It's ridiculous.

I see that you're an inexperienced crafters so I will say this: There are very fast and indeed easy ways to level your craft but you chose the slow and mind numbingly boring way to progress. If you don't know something, ask in the Disciples of Hand forum and I'm sure other people would help. Don't assume you know everything even though you're inexperienced in the matter. Here's a tip: I got my On the payroll V achievement after I get any of the An eye for details achievements. Now go figure it out yourselves.
I have a CUL at 50. Do you really think I would have been able to stomach that without leves? Even with finishing your crafting logs and leves (which I started at level 30 and ran out of in my 40s... I just kept using the new daily allowances until I hit 50), the whole process is still extremely boring. It takes all of my play time trying to do the daily battle class stuff. Spending so much time in one spot pressing a macro over and over again is not what I'd call fun times at all.
the most ive ever paid for a prism was 2k, I make more than that just doing what I do and completing the challange log in the process (2k for trying to catch a titanic sawfish? another 3k for running 3 df dungeons? thanks SE!)
As a DoW / DoM you have access upto 50k+ in profit a day from Roulettes and Dailies alone.
As a crafter I don't sell prisms on the Market Board. I mostly use my crafts and gathering for myself or FC/friends at no cost.
I make plenty of gil alone just doing Roulettes when capping tomes. It funds something far more expensive than Glamours, Melds and overmelding.
Perhaps you need to reevaluate your methods for earning gil. There is even the challenge log now.
yesterday I glamoured my head, chest, arms, legs, and feet for 17k (roughly). 3 armorer prisms, 1 goldsmith, 1, weaver. all tier 2 and 1 tier 3. Thats roughly 3.5k per. the tier 5 were only 5.5k at the most (yesterday). A trip to the aesthetician for 2k. Effed it up there so another 2k.
21k total.
As another poster said, barter with friends, farm mats for players. Make friends with a crafter. There are ways to ease the burden. Take a break from whatever you are doing and farm gil (which is easy).
Just wait for the product to go on sale. Eventually the prices will drop. You can't have new items at discounted prices unless you have friends who make these items.
If your guild owns a house, ask them to install the Material Supplier npc, that npc alone sells up to lvl 15 materials.
The cost in materials to make the glamours is literally exactly the same regardless of grade. On top of that, there is practically zero difficulty in making a glamour, you just need some low level 40-durability mats and a couple crystals, but absolutely nothing needs to be HQ'd and it does not take anything beyond hitting "1" to complete the synth instantly so a naked level 50 crafter can make any of them. Grab the mats, which cost all of 500gil per prism, and find someone with a sufficiently leveled DoH class (again, they don't need to be a fully geared 3star master omnicrafter), and have them make a set of 10 prisms for you. Tip them a couple thousand for the 30 seconds it took them and be on your way.

The materials for each grade of a given class's prism are identical save for the "Grade X Clear Prism", which all cost 200g anyway so they may as well be the same item.
The recipes are located in the crafting books, which cost 1000g and are available from the Lalafel NPC right next to the guy who unlocks the glamour system. There are no requirements to learn the recipes save for a level 30 crafter of the right class.
lol @ op calling crafters greedy for wanting to make money out of the time and resources they spent on getting a craft to 50
Honestly, there isn't that much Gil to be made. The ones that are listed at over 4k don't even really sell. And how else are crafter's supposed to make money? They can't even craft end game gear or have anything to do with endgame besides this where most games they're needed. Is this your first MMO? You just seem awfully butthurt for one of the cheapest endgame grind MMO out.
Vesiroth, and northernladmsp, you guys are being ridiculous. The ridiculousness of the arguments here, I dont even.
My highest level craft is... 32, I think? Maybe 33 or 34. Less than 40 for sure. I don't remember, it's been a while since I looked at it. I thought that since I had at least one craft up to level 30, I would be able to at least craft some of the prisms myself. For me, that's the most disappointing thing about the system. I like that it gets crafters involved. I happen to be in a FC that has a lot of people who like crafting, so I had them make the prisms I wanted for a reasonable fee. Now I love my look.
Sometimes if you want things you have to work for it, and this is one of those times. Sometimes you have to work for gear, sometimes you have to work for money. You can't have everything, and if you want everything you better be ready to work for it because that's the only way you'll get it :D.
Dude.... ffs...
My first craft was alch. It was probably the only one that, IN THE END, cause me a net loss while leveling. Every other craft, (save clothcraft because at the time the mobs needed were overcamped, so I just bought mats) gave me a NET GAIN after the leveling was done. You almost always make back the gil you put into these crafts as rewards from the leve quests you use to level them.
Given that this is the case, the only thing that you are investing during the crafting leveling process, is time.
THIS IS BY FAR THE EASIEST TIME I'VE EVER HAD LEVELING CRAFTING IN AN MMO. THIS IS EVEN EASIER THAN STAR WARS TOR, WHERE YOUR NPCS DID YOUR CRAFTING FOR YOU. STOR BEING LAZY AND LEVEL YOUR CRAFTS.
I'm gonna go home and sell multiple prisms tonight at a 300% mark up just because I can now. smh
FURTHERMORE, why should any of us crafters feel ashamed about trying to make money. They have literally stripped away the usefulness of crafting because people like you bitch about it being involved in end game gear. It has been reduced to crafting things for QoL (which is TOTALLY OPTIONAL AND NOT REQUIRED FOR ANY PROGRESSION ACTIVITIES) and crafting things for other DoH/DoL. You have a non-crafting option for almost everything revolving around actual gameplay.
So yea, pony up for those prisms, or man up and level your crafts.
I think that it's pretty cool that there's finally a consumable, non-obsoletable (ie: demand will not disappear entirely) item that crafters can use to make money on jobs that aren't CUL.
Edit: And the "worst vanity system in history" comment in the OP kind of made me laugh. Haven't you ever played those games where copying the appearance of one item onto another destroys the original item?
300%? So, about 1.5K? Good deal. I'll take a dozen.
Haha, "man up"? You nerds realize we're just playing a video game here, right? We aren't going into battle.Quote:
So yea, pony up for those prisms, or man up and level your crafts.
Also, stop being greedy, Greedy McGreederson.
Except I don't even make money with crafting. I do it with gathering. I dont have a single melded crafter piece, I can't make
starred items. And even I know if you want something you have to put time into something. You can't be handed everything.
You should have learned growing up that time is money. You can either spend what money you earn now or invest it toward
somethign in the future. Thats what crafters did. They put an investment in.
I personally havnt bought any prisms because i know the price will fall when demand does.
Dailies, challenge log, and DR are great gil incomes atm (you are a tank right? you earn a ridic amount in DR)
LOL, it's ridiculous that I won't pay $10,000 gil per prism that has just been confirmed here takes about $500 to make? No, actually that's very logical.
Regardless, I'm stepping out of posting in this thread. The OP asked for opinions from non-crafters, and so far 80% of the responses have been insults from crafters. Take care everyone.
10k I agree is a bit steep. But 3k is perfectly reasonable.
Calling everyone in the thread who has even 1 craft to 50 "greedy" is pretty childish.
May as well just make everything free if selling them for 3k is greedy. As others have pointed out, 3k is breaking even or not even, depending. You don't know how much, if at all, the people are charging for them but you call them all greedy.
Try leveling all crafts to 50 and charging nothing for buying or gathering the materials.
Obvious troll
/topic
Supply and demand, more people want the items, than can make them, the price goes up. Inversly the price will fall when people have gotten
what they want. This is what happens when crafting finally has any purpose, and people have put it off. Stop treating crafters and gatherers
like they are separate people. The'yre not. They play the game and have DoW/M also. My main is a smn, with absolutely no crafted or glamoured gear.
Not wanting to pay 10K gil for something that costs you 500 gil makes me a troll, huh?
BTW, I see you have all crafts at 50.... I wonder why you love this system so much?
With that said, SE should find a way to at least take part of this vanity system away from you greedy crafters. Make it more like Dyes. Tons are bought at vendors while others can be crafted. That way, we only have to go to you greed monsters for one of the rare glamour prisms instead of every time a new piece of gear drops on the current job we're leveling. It's a win, win really.
OP since your true main focus in the system is the cost:
Why bother giving advice to someone just labeling ppl trying to help them.
Why bother with someone who has DoW/DoM leveled and access upto 50k+ gil profit per day just from Roulettes and Dailies.
Why bother with someone who is in a FC with 347 other ppl that can help them?
If anyone is Greedy, a troll, lazy, it is in fact the OP. They have more available to them than others.
What a waste.
After SE opened the Gil tap in 2.2 with the Challenge Log nobody can now really complain to not have enough money.
OP, do the Challenge Log and earn some money. And if it is not enough, do duty roulette as tank and get rich (4500 gil as role bonus).
Clearly you love the word greed so much you're greedy in using the word greed so no one else can have the word greed, you greedy greed diction user.
Or something.
We're in a game were idiots pay RMT people real money in exchange for fake money all so they can buy gear runs, housing, etc. Of course these people aren't going to care how much these prisms are selling for.
I just hope RMT gets involved with the crafting/selling of the prisms soon and crashes the market.
Only thing that annoys me about prisms is how there are 5 grades for each craft. It kills my inventory space quickly. ><
Other than that, typical vanity system, I don't understand what the complaints are about.
