Because I'm a guy! (and because I've played female characters in other MMOs and being hit on by guys got way too uncomfortable after a while).
Altho my main char is female - I created an alt male miqo'te because i like the running animation
I knew a guy who said he played female because he didn't want to watch a man's ass shaking in front of him when he played. I just don't get that...and maybe it's because I play differently...but when I'm moving my character through the game world, I'm not actually looking at my character. I'm looking all around him, or where he's headed, but not AT him. That's not to say I NEVER look at him, but I certainly don't stare at his ass! I've had female characters too, and it's no different. :\
I hear this a lot, too, and as long as I have played female characters on WoW, I never once got hit on. Ever. No complaints, tho.
The only time I tolerated it was with one game that had a marriage system in place with a lot of perks for couples (bonus experience, free teleports, special buffs, etc). Leveling was so painful since the only way was grinding that people would jump on any bonus they could get. I played a female priestess and had heaps of guys trying to marry me. While it was awkward as always, they'd randomly give me free crap (even rare items) to try to win me over. I made a lot of money with that char xD.
Because people don't know the difference of lalafell genders.
Because Im a guy? Now why am I a human its because I don't have imagination or the guts to roll anything else.
Pretty much, when ever I play two player games with my cousins or nephews they always say "Im not the girl", Im like "cool with me, the females always have better moves anyways and look better doing them"
I just might flip if some dude was to hit on me in this game.
I'm simply used to playing a male in most mmos, due to the costumes being sometimes too strippy for females and unwanted attention from boys.
I guess when I play RP scenarios in my head, I think myself as a guy more then as a girl.
Also, my dude is dapper as hell in his weaver set:

In MMOs (or RPGs in general) I tend to play female characters. I rarely have my characters hit on (not that I go seeking that out anyway). I have only had unwanted advances made towards me on a female character (or any character for that matter) once, and that was on a female Draenei Paladin on Moon Guard. But that was Moon Guard so that doesn't count.
Not really. I managed to not ever get seriously hit on since I started playing, 7 months ago. I play every single day. Many hours a day.Quote:
Because as much as playing female characters is great in single-player games, here it just means that somewhere, eventually, you'll get hit on.
I'll add that I also played a crap ton of MMOs, for at least 6 months consecutively on each. And I've not been hit on on any of them either.
I have a troll repellent. It's called being choosy about who you play with. And your harassers are trolls.
you ppl are just as F**cked up as the ppl on WoW
I did kinda wonder once, what all the non-Nunh catboys did for fun. Now... now I know too much!
Me, I am male and ever since VOIP became mainstream for MMO raiding, I stick with male alts (unless I decide to start using voice-altering programs for raid chat!) because I need the immersion, the role-play, of an RPG - and few things are as disappointing and off-putting as the first time you find out that ADORABLE femq'ote in your raid group, has a voice like James Earl Jones :) :) :)
Because if I rolled a girl, I'd be hit on. And that would be awkward for everyone.
Because I'm not male! xD
I love the RP part of this game, have only ever RPed as male characters, and seriously... how could I NOT love him? <3

If you're going to be a male character why not go to the peak of manliness as a Highlander~
Also follow in the footsteps of our lord and saviour Hildibrand
I've seen park benches get less action than this...
Even during the beta dudes couldn't keep their clothes on...
Because I'm a guy and my character is a perfect manifestation of my personality. Plus I'm adorable as hell!
My main is female, as am I, but I've never really been able to identify with her.
I have a couple of male alts who told me their stories from the moment I had their names and I have a lot of fun thinking about them and exploring their history, getting to know what they did before I played them, what they like and dislike, how they came to be the way they are. That RP nature has just started to rub off on a female character associated with their back stories but they're still by far my favourites.
*Shrug* I dunno why my main doesn't have a backstory or personality of her own, or why several other alts don't have anything either, but Bysta and Rysta (and now Rymel by association) really speak to me somehow. I love 'em <3
I have the same problem. My main in beta was a male miqo'te who instantly had a story, but my current main who's a female roe just doesn't have any story or personality. Sure, I sometimes doodle them doing silly stuff, but she still remains pretty blank.
I have made my male alt be the warrior and fisher while my roe has the other jobs. Go figure. @.@ I just like having both, I guess. Just wish it wasn't so much work having alts. Otherwise I'd revive my beta cat and elezen... aaaand I have another seawolf that I also adore. /sadface
i like to be the guy who creeps up on female chars even though they are probably dudes too lol jk :P
Because all the girl characters (sans lalas) have "same face syndrome" :I
I didn't expect this thread to appear!.... Or maybe yes... Hahahaha.
Uh, well, even if my main char is female as well as the secondary. I only play male chars for 'fun' or 'for coolness'.
For example two of the alts are one "hulk wanna be" super green, super brutal. And the other is a highlander hyur also super brutal I called Chuck Norris, of course, pugilist. I can't avoid to laugh a lot when using them. Funny thing is that, someday, they'll be 50 too... But of course after leveling the catgirl and lalafell first.
Aside of the 'coolness' 'brutal fun' fact, the only fact that would make me, rather, force me, to use a male char would be too much people annoying me for having a female char, but so far it's not happening in this game.
Male Roes is all I need to say!
I'm a boring guy who always plays males in MMORPGs. Easier immersing myself into the game that way. I get mistaken as a girl regardless of the gender of my character, anyway. :p
That said, I do regret not taking some more time to customize my character. There's a decent amount of customization for males, which usually tends to be lacking. And I can't remember what I wasted my Fantasia on. :(
Flirting with women is a little easier when you're playing as a male ~
Why? Because Roegadyn males are awesome.

At some point I should get more pictures of my character not dressed in skimpy clothing (from January) that disturbingly(?) match his skin colour...
So, this is now a pinup thread? I'm ok with that
I was gung-ho to create a back story for my character after launch...until I read online and saw in-game that male Keepers only exist for snu-snu. Then I gave up on that idea T_T
Well, like Lalafells, Miqo'te don't age very fast (still debated in some circles if they age at all). The only semi-"old-looking" one is the nuhn at Forgotten Springs. There are little options to work with for males. Hell, I'd kill for at least ONE more facial hair option other than the lone goatee.
My main is a male because I prefer to play as a male in online games, being that I'm a male myself. I choose whatever the hell I want otherwise (i.e. FemShep all the way!).
I pretty well always play a male. When I started out playing online games, I was pretty young (13-14 or so) so it seemed unfathomable to me that I would be (what I thought at the time was) dishonest and play a female. The character represented me! Even if only loosely, it should be close!
I've moved away from that thinking since then, but the end result is that it's mostly just habit to play a male now. I think Diablo III was the first time I deviated from that, and only because the voice actress for the female wizard is one that I've always adored (Grey DeLisle/Griffin).
