Gutted about the lacklustre quality of the PS4 beta

Um... whats wrong with the PS4? Its a port of a game ... its not going to be improved or drastically, specially over PC's. It runs at pretty much the same performance as my PC which is near max. FPS may not be perfect but its WAY better than PS3. It looks great, it responds smoothly, 'mouse scroll' thing with the DS4 worked pretty well too (though I wish it would "click" when I pressed down on it), even the remote play wasnt nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I may be playing on PS4 more often than I originally thought I would! They should make a Vent or at least Mumble app for PS4.

Other than a few UI elements like text size (impossible to read on Vita BTW) the game runs great. They shouldve just skipped PS3 IMO.

I am a high end PC gamer. I do own a PS4 but hardly game on consoles.

Honestly, I am surprised how good the PS4 version looks.

2014 PC with parts based on 50 year old TTL and IC Technology. Water is still wet.

I honestly thought it looked great. Comparable to my lap top version for sure.

Crisp & clean, miles ahead of my PS3 version. I for one am looking forward to using my main character on PS4.

1. The PC Version is not 3 years old. It is not even 1 year yet. The PC version was hastily put together in about a year and just officially released on August 2012. The 1.0 version does not count as that version was tossed out some time ago.

2. It is definitely too early to compare, as the difference between Alpha and Final release with graphics quality was quite noticeable.

3. Pcs over the last year have improved (faster processors, etc).

4. The PS4 will be somewhat close to the PC with a few items different. It still looks quite nice and is quite playable. The PS4 will get consistent results for most people.

It is hard to take your complaint seriously, when you complain about it not being as good in some areas as PC without giving details as to what you mean by sub par. It almost looks like you ran out of major items to complain about and figured the PS4 would be a nice target since it is new.

I don't think you understand what cheaper means.

Might as well put this here, this is something I wrote up for my FC's site... I can say I am a PC player, tried PS3 and couldn't stand it and despite, I was very happily surprised at how good the PS4 version looked. Then again I'm not going to trick myself and think it can look as good as a PC, you can't compare PC to a Console. But here ya go...

First Impressions:

-Character Creation: Was nice, just like the PC version... one thing I did notice, when you're changing the height of your character the whole screen seems to bounce. Other than that, it took me a few sec to figure out how to move the bar up and down, lol. But it’s very much to the point and nice.

I do like that they have all jobs and all 3 cities open, unlike PC/PS3 where it was only 1 city at the start... on one side it gives players more choices, especially new players who are trying it for the first time. On the other hand, since people are not all in one spot, how are they gonna stress test it and make sure the PS4 can handle the graphical lodes that a MMO requires and doesn't lode hella slow like the PS3 does. >.<

-Opening Cut Scene: OMG looks so damn good on my HD 47" screen! I don't really see much difference between it and my PC version... but then again it IS a cut scene... it's the gameplay that I want to see. I did try the PS3 once, and it was very dark and kinda odd, so let's see if I can handle PS4. I could see some minor fluxing in the back ground, which I don't really remember seeing in the PC version, but it's not very noticeable and holds up well against the PC version atm.

-In Game Starting Out: Omg, the notification sounds come though the little speaker on your controller! *flails* I don't know why I find that cool. lol It says to hit Select to bring up menu, this is actually Options on the PS4 controller. Menu works just like the PS3, and PC if you use a controller, not really hard to get used to at all.

One thing I did notice while messing with the Hud on the PS4 version (at least on my TV, I have heard of others not having this issue) is that there is like an invisible 2 inch gap on the left and right side and a 1 inch game on the top and bottom where you cannot move any of your hud elements, unlike the PC version were you could move then to the very corner of your screen and leave no gap at all. This is slightly annoying, seeing I want as much of the middle 'action' area as open as possible.

Using the middle click pad as a mouse can be a bit frustrating and take time to do simple things, like make the chat log bigger… also the font is a bit small. On a PC the font is fine, but PC’s are usually close contact, meaning you’re only a short distance away. On the PS4 version I was sitting on my counc about 7-8 feet away and I found it hard to read the chat box, and NPC pop ups. Just FYI my TV is a HD 1080p 160hz 47”, so it’s not that my Tv is small or old.

In Game Graphics - Running Around: Cut scenes are lovely, but of course these are static, they are made that way and aren't really 'gameplay' where you have people around etc...

Personally I can see graphical differences between the PC version and the PS4 version (but to compare the two is stupid, they are two different beasts), but the PS4 version is also much better that the PS3 version! Now let me clarify, if you zoom in close (about half way or closer) to look at your characters or the surroundings, it looks lovely, honestly it does.

When you zoom out really far and get the overview is where I feel that I can see SE kinda dumbing the graphics down for the console version, and things becomes blurred and not as sharp. But considering the fact that I don’t play with my camera zoomed out 100%, about somewhere in the middle, I think it’s lovely.

Zoning: WOW this is nice, it's as fast as the PC. There were no log delays when zoning from one area to another. I know the PS3 players always say it seems to take twice as long as the PC players, but this was quick, fast and smoooooth. Very well done SE! :D

So I was playing and it got dark... well yeah duh of course it gets dark....

BUT... seeing that night has come, this is what I wanted to see. On the PS3 it was very hard for me to see at night, everything got washed out in blackness, and it was one of the major issues I had with the console version. This looks, well... wow, like the PC version. It's not overly dark, and things don't seem to be getting washed out in blackness like I experienced on the PS3 version.

As a New Player: So I let my husband play it as well (he has never tried FFXIV before, not a big MMO person), and he LOVES it! And he said he might even play, which is big... he quit FFXi after 1 hour claiming it as too hard and too much of a difficulty curve, yet he was enjoying FFXIV on PS4!. Over all, as I watched him play etc... the game is beautiful and I am very happy with what I saw.

I think the people upgrading from PS3 to PS4 are going to be very very happy!

Vita Play: So I brought it up on my PS Vita... runs amazing, but defiantly more so for if you feel like doing something that doesn't require reading/writing... it’s very very very hard to read and to message anything on the vita system. This isn’t a surprise, honestly, but there you have it~!

I have no where else to post this, but from that linked article, this is absolutely amazing to me, lol:

Their high end pc isn't "high end" then. Reason why Ps4 would run better would be because it uses the appropriate graphical settings for it's power. Which if your friends had real high end PC(s) there would be no such issue, and if there was a frame rate drop all platforms across the board would be experiencing it.

A High End PC isn't going to run "high end" if the software that runs on it is holding it back. Even unoptimized graphic drivers can hold the PC and/or the software back. It is more complicated than a console as consoles have the advantage of fixed specs.

You completely missed the point again. Just because consoles don't have graphical settings (or at least as detailed) doesn't mean that they're not running on a graphical setting based on the PC version.

1.0 also had graphical settings, yet no matter how much you fiddled with them the game ran like crap compared to how 2.0 runs on the same low end PC. The changes done to the game weren't just there for the PS3, they're there for the PC version too.

A $400 PC would not get you even close to PS4 graphics, $600-$900 retail PC though would probably get you there.

Hobbist pirate windows, strip their old parts, and hunt for the best sales. Then they spend a good 20-100 hours setting up and testing and tuning them with no package warranty.

Basically it's the old "I can renovate my own home" clause. Home Depot is great and all, but it's not the end all.

Graphics look really good on the PS4 version but problem is the framerate is too low, even in empty areas :/

I bought my computer for around $350, then my graphics card a year or 2 later for $100 so yeah it falls within the $400-$500 range. Everything is maxed out and runs perfectly. So you don't really need a $600-$900 computer to run this game equal to that of the PS4. You in fact, just need a computer that is not pure junk.

We have FXAA and DX9 currently... Pretty limited for a High End PC.

aka not retail, at you own risk with no warranty, with your own parts and labor. and a $100(high end low profile type) card would not max out FF14. you probably slickdeal it or some such. the most popular $100 non low-profile card is a 7770(or re-branded r5). That would not fit on the psu of a $350 wattage PC (ala 350watt psu). To do the kind of wattage you need, the only card on the marked is not yet released 750GTX that is expected to go for ~$150+ (power wattage meet the 80watt cut off).

A $600~$700 PC retail PC might have a 450w PSU, which would net you a possible GT/ R5 card. Those would boarder a PS4 in terms of FF14 performance. Most likely anything that would have a GT level card would hit $800 excluding super sales.

Anyone who looks at retail long enough would know 350~600= integrated 600~800 discrete.

Basically it's the old "I can renovate my own home" clause. Again.

Can't say I understand your point of view, OP. My roommate is in the beta and it looks no different than the pc version. It runs smooth, has good frame rate, and the appearance is the same. Something tells me you either expected DirectX 11 to be part of it, or the issue is purely in your head.

Every part you buy has it's own individual warranty, and building a pc is like playing with legos, every slot is clearly marked as what is supposed to go there. Anybody who thinks it's hard is either parroting what they have been told, willfully ignorant, or both.

Don't really care about fancy graphics (as long as they are above certain threshold). What matters are frames per second. And currently PS4 is miserable.

2x 2gb 1333 ram

corsair 430W PSU (only 300W needed)

am3+ motherboard (or any cheap 40 dollars mobo that fits your cpu's socket)

cheap HDD

Same as a PS4 and beats it. If you cannot find money for that PC, then you need a different hobby.

if you spend $2k on a PC you are foolish. A PC half that price will run it maxed out, even buying every part and building from scratch, maybe even less than that. Would be even cheaper if you had an old PC to salvage parts from. I'd even go so far as to say you could build a PC for the same price as a PS4 that would run the game just as well. I don't know why people are stuck on the idea that you have to be rich to have a PC that performs well on games.

Because truth be told, most people don't actually know how to build computers. Even those that do, aren't aware of how much you can push older tech. As stated with my awesome GTX560, most of the components in my computer is garbage, don't mean it won't play Skyrim at max settings. She may scream and complain but she'll run it.

That's because the frame rate is capped at 30 fps on PS4. On PC you can cap it at 60 fps or leave it uncapped.

PC cap is based on your selected refresh rate.

I have 120hz monitor, when I have the 60 setting selected it actually caps at 120 fps.

What have read about the PS4 version it is capped at 60 FPS. It's not locked so who knows what the minimum or average fps is.

technically speaking unless you have a special monitor you want to cap it at 60fps anyway.

I don't believe they totally capped it at 30fps. It's smoother then 30 at times. ps4 even on unoptimized code is still a near brother to a HD 7870 or 7850(depending on who you ask). That should easily get you 50~ even in cities, and with some console code 60fps isn't a problem.

no you don't you get parts warrenty. that's not manufacturers warranty.

CyberPC is probably the best example of retail, since they are the leading "gaming pc" package manufacturer

Low profile crap gaming cyberpower pc = $500-$600
Non low profile 1080 gaming cyberpower pc = $800-$1000

Again, go renovate your bathroom with homedepot. It's legos, really!
