So wheres that Garuda egi?
And yet scratch beneath the surface and it was obvious the shortcuts SE had to do to allow players to summon full-size summons in FFXI - this is why for every second an avatar was out it chewed through the player's MP, meaning the player had to set up some convoluted equipment sets (usually gear with an Auto-Refresh effect, a bonus to the element of that avatar, and the 'reduced avatar perpetration cost' bonus) to keep their summon out (Carbuncle was the only one who could really be kept out at all times, and even then required special gear to do so).
It was also the reason why Odin and Alexander could only be summoned briefly with the 2-hour ability Astral Flow to do their special attack and then disappear, and why Bahamut still isn't summonable (and never will be) - their size just causes technical problems.
Extend that to here in FFXIV with a far greater amount of player character models on screen in greater detail and couple that with the fact the game's narrative has long stated that to summon a Primal in it's 'full' form requires multiple summoners summoning at once and an enormous cost in aether, and it shows that no matter how hard the community whines for it, SMN will not be changed. You may as well accept that fact and move on.
I love it, maybe you can try making a Garuda and Titan aswell?
Wow, responding to a year+ old post. Uh, okay.
Yeah, maybe. I never personally played a Summoner in XI, but I am aware they actually made pacts with each avatar after defeating them. Now I don't know what the Smn quests involved but it seems like they summoned the actual avatar itself, not just a fraction of it's power. It also seems like they befriended the avatars in XI.
Now XIV is a completely different game. We don't make pacts with the Primals, we don't befriend them. We are basically stealing their power for ourselves and using a fraction of the power because we're playing a constant tug of war with the primal for their power. Not to mention if we summoned the full primal that would totally eff up the lore in the realm because it requires a ton of crystals and prayer just to summon a Primal. There's no way one adventurer without doing any of that could just summon a full on primal, but a smaller portion of the primals power, well that's doable.
At least that's how I see it. Either way, a year+ later Summoner is still great dps and I enjoy being one.
I got the impression from the Summoner quests that we are basically doing the same summoning ritual that the beast tribes do but instead of using heaps of crystals we use renewable naturally aspected aether (hence traveling to specific locations) to create a much weaker version that we can beat up and control.
I didn't see it so much as a power struggle with the primal, more that if we created a stronger primal we'd probably damage the environment and lose control of it.
Either way I can only see big summons that do mega damage with super flashy attacks working both mechanically and in the lore as Limit Breaks. (I'd still like better Enkindle though.)
I highly doubt Summoner is facing extinction. I know plenty of people, myself included, who main as Summoner for their DPS class; my official main being Scholar. And all of this talk about how Summoner is represented in this game over others is a little ridiculous at times. If you ask me it's the whole FFVII issue again. People are so blinded by nostalgia that they can't see something for what it really is, good or bad; not saying Summoner is bad. But just like after FFVII came out "new fans" felt no game was better, and every game afterwards was mideocre. Was VII a good game, yes. But did it have a lot of problems too, yes; one of the reasons why a remake might be a bad idea, it will probably destroy people's nostalgia. And from my personal experience, most people dont remember the game correctly, or Cloud correctly for that matter. Anyway, is this version of Summoner good, yes. Could it maybe be better, possibly. Is it better or worse than any other Summoner, NO, That line of thinking fall into personal preference. Remember, each game is different, and each class will have slight or extensive differences as each game calls for it.
Dunno if someone mentioned this, as I skipped from the 2nd page to the last page, but that design would be wonderful if the ever decided to give us "more powerful" egis. Like as our summoner levels up they change just a bit. As much as I'd love full size (which I still play on XI so I can have them there) if the with give us full at least upgrade the egis a bit. Especially garuda.... Poor garuda looks like a bird booger... I know you can do better than that SE.
Yea, I'm gonna have agree. I'd love to see with each new levelcap raise so does the appearance of the egi's becoming more and more physical in appearance and less and less like a magical sprite.
"Facing extinction"?
They already kind of fixed their biggest issue through a recent patch (MP management, by lowering the cost of Ruin/Ruin II).
Other than that, they KNOW they have other issues which they'll fix once the expansion rolls out.
So not even close; for the time being, they're viable as is.
I refuse to play a SMN only due to the EGIs.
After playing FFXI and seeing the true potential of SMN with their arrangement of actual SUMMONS, XIV's SMN is just very simply not enjoyable.
Still no new update on this?
Reminds me of Thanatos from Chaos Legion.
Hmmm...
I hope the dev team is looking at this thread. THIS would make egi's a lot more tolerable if they actually looked like their primal counterparts instead of just a mass of color crudely shaped to look like something.
To OP, Moroh Khon
I'm in the process of having my character custom created as a 1/6 scale figure and I've been looking into how I may go about creating the Egi's to go along with it. I was wondering if there's any chance at all that you would be able to commission this Ifrit Egi status as a custom piece of art? Please let me know! Thank you!!
Not an excuse. in fact there are minions with far more detail than summoner egi. Even scholar fairies are better designed and textured that summoner egis.
The 'low texture fbcuz system limitations' argument doesn't work because it doesnt hold up to closer scrutiny of all the other things that are better designed and detailed in comparison
