Agreed.
Because I actually like the new aggro icon. I don't see the problem with it. Except the option to turn it off if you don't need it.

There are bigger problems than this going on right now. Cry about agro icons to your friends and don't clutter up the forums where REAL problems are being discussed.
A REAL problem or not, is something that users may like or not like, and If SE knows it, is a good info for them. Plus implement the option to toogle it, or even get rid of the icon, won't make any difference at the rates patches will be released to solve, what you say, REAL problems.
And please, If you are going to discuss the thread, you are welcomed but, to just agro the people who wants to discuss this thread, like many others, please go and kill some Marmots, instead of posting here.
Thank you.
Yes please, either toggle, and/or change colors of mini-map, and/or icon appears next to difficulty icon when targeted. Any or all off these solutions would fix the problem as far as I am concerned. I for one like running around corners and getting that sinking feeling when I screw up and don't see an ago mob. Now I can see them a mile away and exploring has lost what little sense of adventure it had.
dont like. please remove. no toggle. COMPLETELY REMOVE
I don't know if it was mentioned before but I thought that perhaps the best option would be to have the icon next to the name of the mob when it's the mob you have targeted:next to the challenge indicator blue, red, green etc. instead of having it in the field of vision.
Of course added on top of everything said, ability to toggle on/off and aggro mobs displayed a different color on min-map.
Think it(icon) is rather silly too...
With a toggle those of you who don't like the icon won't have it. Those that do like/need the icon will. I don't see the argument here. Let's get toggle implemented and move on. Those of you who don't need aren't new ff players and such have some mercy on the newbs, and just toggle the thing to off. If you don't realize everyone is still a newb on this game since the game isn't technically finished. We'll see what comes in the future but an icon toggle isn't goin to make or break this game.
I agree, I feel the icon takes away discovery and adventure from the game. It is ugly and I do not need my hand held. We figured it out in XI we can do it again. After all the game is about being an adventurer right?
i suggested earlier that why not just add an option in the main menu where you could inspect the mob. you could see it's strengths, weakenesses, incaps, and whether a mob is passive or agressive. to me this would allow you to stop and check the mob if you did not know what it was. it only takes once for an aggro mob to attack you to see that it aggros. my biggest issue with the icon is at 40-50 not many mobs aggro, but yet that dumb icon is still there.
In MANY MMORPGS, by simply putting the mobs name in RED was enough to tell players "Hold it, this mob will BITE your arse off if you get close enough".
Either give it a toggle button somewhere, or make the name of the aggro mobs RED and that's it o.O, the big shiny red icon is like an insult to veteran players like many of us here, as i heard somewhere "They should drop the icon, because now it feels like 2nd graders are the only people who are getting any benefits from the aggressive icon. It is quite upsetting." how true :P
agree, please remove the agro icon, let us learn and explore eorzea without help from that!
Even better, make it a trait instead. Where players need to either acquire, be that job, or otherwise spend resources to find out if a monster is aggressive.
simply put i wish it was not there, this game is too easy as is, there is no element of danger or surprise and the excitement you get from exploring is diminishing quickly if they keep implementing these "training wheels" type of functions to the game.
I loathe the agro icon. It makes the world seem like a safe place to raise my kittens.
The Icon needs to go. Their are only so many mobs that aggro. maybe like 30. I spend 99% of my time in Ul'dah so i know what ones aggro. From my 1% in LL and Grid i know what aggro their also. Not sure why SE added this annoying icon. Its small but is annoying. Also its easy to run away from an aggro attack.
EDIT: I like the Trait idea. That would work great.
The icon is for newbies, it should stay for lvl 10 maximum then it should be toggle-able or something :P
It's not like you loose exp/sp by getting killed. I found it exciting figuring out what would agro on me, and now that I have a couple of rank 50 classes most of the monster with the agro icon ignore me.
When I got past some yarzons at rank 20 and they didn't attacked me, I was like "Huh? why..." but then I realized the nice feature that aggro mobs won't attack you if you're 10 lvls or higher than them.
Funny and useful, but still I hate the aggro icon lol
agree with Cogs, the game is too easy and there is no danger on exploring eorzea, the icon makes the game... noob?
I can't believe this is becoming an issue for people saying it makes the game easier or harder. Why the F should I need to go a website to figure out if I am going to waste anima or 30 min running back to the place I tried to run past? Why do you all hate new players so god damned much? I am all for this, it may not need to be so blatent, but it is better then losing palyers who pick up the game, die to a yarzon, then an angry squirl, then an eft, etc over and over to every new mob that aggroes. That is not hard, it is just grief and cheap way to waste time. If you think your a veteran or a good player simple by knowing what mob will aggro you then there is no hope for you, that is simple memory retrieval, congrats google and wiki do that, so why bother making it a rock in your shoe when your tring to go for a strole?
I don't mind if they want to have an indicator to show that a mob will aggro you. However, if they would like to keep it I would personally like the indicator to be less flashy and removed from being directly left of the monster's name tag and placed on the target unit frame instead. It would be cool if it were a modified version of the difficulty/color indicator.
i think most of us have given suggestions as to have it able to be toggled, a trait, or an ability through the main menu. some of us do not like the big red aggro icon that shows a mob may aggro, but most mobs that have the icon do not aggro on our characters. it's ugly and it is huge and i do not mind the new players having some sort of warning of what mobs aggro, but i don't like it being forced on me when most mobs that are labeled no loner aggro me.
what's so hard about having it be able to turned off like having your headpiece show?
if you like it that's fine and i do not mind you having it, but why not allow those of us that don't to have the option?
With all the massive, massive flaws in this game, is this seriously the line (seemingly many of you) draw?
You'll take the mindless, repetitive action with no endgame, no pvp, no dynamic interaction system but god dammit, you won't take aggro icons on monsters?
I can only shake my head at the trivialities posted here when so many large and glaring faults still lie in this game.
no this is not the line. not by a long stretch. it is just one more thing of the many that people wish to have changed. it would be fine with most of us if alot of these little trivial things just gave an option to opt in or opt out of.
pvp is also good for some people, but i for example want the option to opt out of that also.
no endgame? you do realize this is still a beta for all intents and purposes right? there is no end game nor will there be for a while. while there does need to be more content added for people to do this game is nowhere near being ready for an endgame scenario.
in the end it is not one thing or another that people are drawing the line on it is multiple little things that add up to clutter the overall gameplay. in fact the only thing people have said in here were the majority wanted it changed some not completely removed.
If it was there from day1, it would go over to the cosmetic box in my personal opinion.
The main problem i have with it, is that it was added on the last patch unexpectedly and that before that no1 asked for it.
Like i said before a toggle option would be perfect.Personally i am more bothered because its ugly as hell than because it shows aggressive monsters. It has no use for me other than to distract my eye from battle and take away some of the wonderful designs this game has. Also , that is one of yoshida´s creations, so this alone speaks for itself ,,, quite a lot about game direction.
Anyways this is my personal view on it.
Sure it isn't much of a problem. But neither is the lack of chocobo. We can, after all, teleport anywhere. And /assist isn't needed. Just click on the mob with the number over its head. Want to play a White Mage? Don't equip black mage spells. All little things that in and of themselves don't matter. But together...
Its sort of like, 4 + 4 = 8. 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 8 as well. Two big things, or eight little things, but overall they are equal. In the long run, its all stuff that needs to get addressed.
To be honest, I kinda like it. Though I do wish it wasn't quite so "in your face".
There was nothing worse in FFXI than running through an area, almost getting to the zoneline that is your goal, then getting aggro'd because you couldn't see something before it was too late. Chigoes come to mind.
I'm an explorer, so I definitely understand the reasoning behind wanting to discover for yourself. And the first time I enter a new area, I would want to do just that. But after that, it's just a pain to remember what aggro'd if you haven't been there in awhile.
In other words, I would agree with a toggle option, but not getting rid of it altogether (but I would agree with making the red icon less of an eyesore).
The Aggro Icon is just as bad as the line on the map telling you how to get to places. It is just plain stupid. I love Chigoes. Be smart, Get yourself a RR item, Prism Powder and Sneak Oil. I loved how the mobs in FFXI would run you down and never give up. I have to ask myself, why in the hell am I playing this broke kid's game. What makes it worse is I still have 3 FFXI accounts active. Why? Well because FFXIV has not been able to pull me away from them.
Yes, Please remove the Icon... It was a poor idea in the first place
I actually agree that it should be a toggle.
My point wasn't that it didn't matter, my point was that given the game in its current state, I am amazed that people are focusing on microscopic things like this rather than fixing the massively flawed aspects of this game like, to name a few:
Lack of content, lack of factors to balance the economy, the fatigue system, the boring and repetitive battle system, etc
The people complaining for this kind of crap right now are the people who are going to complain when this kind of crap gets prioritized over the things I linked above and complaining that the game is not being worked on fast enough. The dev team is busy fixing, testing and examining all of this little crap and is being pulled away from the broader more sweeping changes that the game needs *right now*.
My point, in short, is that crap like this can wait. The fact that a thread about this is up to 10 pages, while threads about the economy or battle system are at two is quite silly. If the dev team sorts threads by number of responses to determine the value of examining a particular change, this is going to take the place of a more needed change in a patch. This is trivial B.S.
The icon is very practical for me, because I don't usually play in parties, so if I go near to an enemy and turns out that it's aggressive, it often kills me with one hit. I like the warning, because I don't have much time to play and I don't want to wait 2 mins to reagain my HP after a death.
Sounds like a good solution to add an option in the configuration menu to turn it on/off, if there are players who really don't like it.
Agreed, please remove the icon.
So I have to ask... why are you against having a toggle?
Seriously, how does keeping it around but allowing you to choose to turn it off hurt you in any way?
@Vockroth Sneak and Invis didn't stop chigoes if you stepped on them. I will admit that the fear of death while exploring FFXI was exciting and made it fun. But after awhile, it just gets tedious. Once you've been through and area for the hundredth time, it has lost any sort of amusement and becomes a nuisance.
Toggling something like this is a game of liars. You're just BSing everything behind each other's backs. No one wants to stupidly run into an aggro even if you think it's too childish, because it's an unfair advantage to have it off if there's an option to have it.
It's like having the honor's system in an exam to grade yourself. Conflicts of interest is pretty obvious.
The answer is to play another game, which FF14 can't afford people to do right now.
how's that any different than having a level 10 mob with a big aggro icon and you are on your level 50 char. the aggro icon stays on even if the mob does not aggro. i have went through most every area and know what mobs aggro so i do not need to be told repeatedly a diremite aggros......i know it does. why do i need to be told a roseling aggros when i can walk up and sit down on top of it and it never moves?
