Just remember, this guy isn't the only princess tank that can't be bothered to run a dungeon from the beginning. Why should he have to work just as hard as everyone else for his tomes? He's a tank!

There are a plethora of people who do this and it won't stop with a forum topic 99% of them will never read. At least SE has mentioned this in passing, so we might get a fix in the future. Cross your fingers.

Nope.

The whole purpose of the join-in-progress feature, is to make sure there are replacements for when people leave a dungeon mid-way. Why it was put up as a separate option, was also very simple: because a lot of people prefer to do full dungeons.

So in order to make everyone happy, join-in-progress was made as an option.

The purpose was never to make sure new people can get in-progress parties. It was to make sure already in-progress parties can get replacements.

The option, in full, would read: "I don't mind joining a dungeon in progress".

There's people who prefer, and ONLY want to join instances in progress, which is why we currently have this problem, and this threat exists. So the option should still be there, for the purpose you just mentioned, but they need to make people who queue for in progress content separate from people who join for brand new content. So those who wish to join a dungeon from the beginning do not have to deal with people who only want to join dungeons in progress

I have been exactly like the OP before. 10+ cycles before the run actually starts because of asshats like YOU gaming the system.

It needs to be adressed, that is given. However I doubt SE will do it as they have said before, they have currently no plans to do anything about it. However it seems to be increasing so I think there stance might have changed a bit.

I disagree. Checking that box is basically saying "yes, i am willing to join an in progress dungeon," or "I am hoping for the oppurtunity to join an in progress." It does not mean "I will only join a dungeon that is in progress, and if it isn't at the boss that I want to fight I am going to withdraw."

As i've said before in multiple threads, all they need to do is make "Join in Progress" ONLY join groups in progress. Simple. No need to hide information from the player.

I think I'm fine with completely separate queues. "In-progress" people get a completely independent queue that only has access to in-progress dungeons missing people. They cannot start new dungeons (that's the whole point of the independent queue), this is to guarantee that they will get an in-progress dungeon. This way the new-dungeon queue (i.e. normal DF queue) won't see the withdraw problem anymore. This arrangement I think I'd be fine with.

They would need a completely independent queue. Or people may still do the withdraw spam to see if they can't get 3/4 instead of 1/4 or 0/4 kind of dungeons. They can spam their in-progress queue, but at least they won't troll the rest of the players who just want a dungeon party.

This wouldn't work. The people waiting for in progress would probably outnumber the full dungeon runners, and it would drastically increase the wait times for BOTH types of queues. Pull all the tanks out of normal df and put them in the in progress group and now NO groups are getting started. The way that it is obviously designed is that you can select in progress and if you are lucky you will get one, and help some people out in the process.

Just because you are willing to join an in progress doesn't mean you should be handed one. If that were the case they would have just made it to where everyone could choose whatever starting point they wanted. The feature exists to help out other groups, not yourself.

Well then what's left would be a penalty to withdrawing.

So basically the thread has come to one of two conclusions:

1. System is fine, just add a penalty so people can't spam withdraw.
2. System is not fine, should let people designate only in-progress.

Either way, we all agree it's a problem.

Whether players should be able to queue only for in-progress, is for the devs to decide then.

That checkbox is your "independent queue." Already-run groups are not in any queue, so it isn't like it would be difficult to distinguish between groups forming in the queue and groups that are already in a dungeon. You're trying to suggest that it would be difficult to implement, when it's essentially already there. The checkbox should be a signal to the duty finder "This person should not be included in the matching for a new instance."

People who queue for In-Progress and WITHDRAW don't want to start a new group. So having In-Progress queue be separate from New queues would not affect anything, because these people DO NOT want to start new groups.

Another thing they could do, is keep the system how it currently is, but add a pop up window for people who queue for In-Progress content and are sent to new queues. If there are no spots open on any of the current instances, and there is a spot on a new group, they could get a window asking if they want to join a new group, otherwise they can refuse and stay on the In Progress queue, that way they wont be automatically sent to the new queues and have to withdraw. Those who choose to accept will be queued up with the other group members and start the instance

took me 160min to get in CT ..after many repeat withdrawing player

What are you talking about? The concept of doing the same stuff to get gear/items is how things have been since the beginning. Want that rare drop in the RPG? Gotta keep fighting monsters until the rare one appears and MAYBE you'll get the drop. Right off the bat, games like Earthbound and Final Fantasy Tactics come to mind. If there's something wrong with that design, then there's something wrong with every video game that has an RNG system (particularly RPGs). It's sort of pointless to single out FFXIV on that matter, wouldn't you agree? RPGs are generally not linear progression, and often do require repeated activities to make progress. If that's unusual to you, I really don't know what to say lol.

This is a little more reasonable, but it still seems like a really odd mentality that would lead you to possibly wait much longer for a group just because you refuse to start at the beginning.

I believe the solution was mentioned in the first post. Do not tell whether the group you got was in progress or not until you accept or withdraw. If you get one then great, but if you don't then no big deal, your run lasts 15 minutes longer and you didn't hold up the whole system.

Its still happening even now and its February.

Even if you get into one now they are troll tanks who didn't get the right boss pop by pulling aoe mobs into the party so they can get vote kicked.

Since this seems to only be an issue in CT, they could just randomize the kill order for each path. Make it a crap shoot on which one you join on. They'd have to suck it up or eat the penalty if its not the boss they want.

Funny thing is, those fishing probably waste more time trying to get in progress than it would take to just join at the start and run to the boss they want.

the solution is after 3 withdraw like this, the person must get a lockout of 30 minute like what he get when he leave a party. it's more an harassing for the player waiting.

and i'm sure some people troll by using this...

The solution is much simpler just give them what they want, make an in progress only option problem solved.

+1 On everything you said... it happens all the time when I'm trying to run CT and it's beyond annoying. It's a problem and a simple fix like this would make queueing so much better.

I went through an hour of this trying to get into CT last night.

1) Less needed roles that will want to start a new fresh dungeon since you can just skip most of the farming if you are the right class.

Plus who knows if this in progress option would work out when you got like hundreds of skippers trying to get those few spots that are in progress.


System is being abused and creating a system for the abusers seems weird to me.
