Weirdest Reason For AFK?

Had someone back in FFXI "AFK, cat on fire" once. We never let him forget it.

Funniest one/wierdest. "AFK toilet" Meanwhile they left their push to talk down. so we could hear it all....

Well depends from where one comes from. I live in area that never has earthquakes (well I have experienced only 2 in the 24 years I've lived here anyway, and they were VERY small), so for some people it could be considered odd. I know I would find it to be odd since it has never really been something part of my life.

As far as a more 'realistic' thing I've said in party... "Brb, need to put my bird to bed." (I have a pet bird. He likes to be covered at night. If I don't comply at exactly 10pm, he starts saying... "It's bed. Y'ready? Ready? It's bed! Go in. It's beeeeeeeeed..." over and over again and won't shut up. XD)

One I always think of is, "AFK, grandma got out."

There was no excuse but it's still a funny afk moment.

My FF11 linkshell was about to pop Kirin.

He came back after we wiped and forever gained the nickname AFKgus.

Also recently I've had to take care of my mom who just had a knee replacement so a lot of people heard,

"BRB putting mom to bed."

"AFK: My friend tripped and fell into an alternate dimension and I need to go pull her out"

I think my strangest one so far has been a garbage emergency. I.e. I saw garbage blowing off down the street from my bin and had to run and sort it out.

The alley behind my house is the city hall of stray cat politics. My bedroom window faces that alley, so I hear whatever goes on sadly. Whenever male cats encounter each other, they're always fighting. One night I was in the middle of a Qarn run when suddenly two males start "crying" at eachother. (the sound they make before they fight)

At the time, (before I googled what crying cats meant) I thought it was two cats having sex so I told my party "brb cats having sex". I was gone for 20minutes, shooing away the stubborn cats. They weren't very scared at me and for a mean while the three of us just looked at each other waiting for a response from one another. Eventually I got the broom and started sweeping at them.

When I returned to my desk and told my party I was sorry for afking they said "what--did you join them?". xD

had a healer go take a shower mid dungeon once

"srry gtg, grandmama wants to pley CoD"

I couldn't breath for the next minute. :')

I come from an area that never has any earthquakes as well. Same as you, one or two in 25 years.
But I am currently living somewhere where there are a lot of earthquakes. Personally I got used to them pretty fast. Most of the time it is just your chair/bed/the cups in your cupboard shaking a little bit. Still, if it is goes on longer than that or the shocks are heavier than normal I pause to pay attention. Fortunately, I have yet to experience a heavy earthquake (>.<)

I had a friend I was playing with in a dungeon that said "sorry afk I farted and it stinks so bad"

"BRB Cat on Fire" is my go-to excuse

Also, as far as playing while looking after kids:

I have a two year old son, the wife and I both play. He naps for 2 hours in the afternoon, so we alot 1 hour to play XIV in case he wakes up early. He sleeps solidly through the night, so from 8pm we can play as much as we want. On the very rare occasion he wakes himself up, one of us AFKs for the 2 minutes it takes to calm him down and put him back to sleep.

I agree you shouldn't be playing while your child is awake/needs attention until they are old enough to look after themselves (23 years old maybe?) but having children doesn't stop you playing altogether.

(There was one awkward Titan run where he'd woken up early and refused to be held by his mum, only me. Managed to heal through Titan without getting hit with a toddler on one arm, felt pretty leet that day.

So back in FFXI days I'd get a few invites for XP parties with JP players; mainly due to the name. So one party was running in G. Citadel, and I had to use the restroom after a couple of hours. So of course sent a message "wc brb! >.<" and went along to do my business. Taking a bit longer than I thought I got back to one of the JP asking in auto translate " {Cat} に落ちる？" or something similar. XD

'afk, someone just did a drive by on my neighbors house'

Lmao! I've seen similar fart-related excuses. The only time I've ever needed to leave and open a window is when my dog walks by and does it. It's horrible.
