I said one of the reasons why I quit Wow, there were other elements of Wow that made me stop playing, Jump was just one of them

congratulations everyone, on taking the OP's obviously humour driven post waaaay too seriously. D: even i could tell he was parodying the countless jump threads.
Actually, I thought there was some humor in Neptune's post, it did seem a bit joking but serious at the same time. BTW what server did you play FFXI on Nep? There is no doubt in my mind that you played XI.
Actually, i remember a post that Belgianrofl made about crafting being embarrassing to be on screen while his girlfriend was around, he'd have to stop crafting so he wouldn't be embarrassed.
But you see, you can control that. If other players are bunny-hopping, (not like its a huge problem for me) you cannot control it, but I put some thought into comparing these two situations and it turns out that, it would seem a little degrading for a Final Fantasy. I'm not sure, but if jumping was implemented in a way to where only you can see your character jump, that would possibly be the best way to implement.
This idea was mentioned in another thread but mostly went ignored.
if they add jumping,
they should add a sort of deduction to stamina, meaning you cant jump everytime, so that you'all bunny hopper haters can just stop complaining lol.
anyway, if want jumping implanted like in reality, then should also make deduction or penalty by cost of jumping! like maybe only able to jump 2-3 times before regaining your stamina! :D :D :D
That seems nice too, but a lot of people just do not want to see it at all.
You also have to consider server response. SE has the lolservers.
So if Jumping was implemented as viewable only to the client, then it could work out nicely, since the reaction time would be instant, and nobody else has to bother seeing other people jump.
Its like how people modded in FFXI, nobody else could see them, only the people that modded their characters could see themselves.
that kind of defeat the purpose of jumping in the first place IMO, because if i would put in Jumping, Jumping would be consider as a tool in a fight, not to just simply jump, but to avoid something and make an Encounter more fun or something.. but yea.. that ought to change to a action game lol.
It would be neat if they could manage to pull that off, but even a game like Phantasy Star was really inaccurate on the "Dodge-Roll" due to server-related issues. FFXIV is in no way a more responsive game. lol In order to to something like that, shit tons of money would have to be invested in the servers. Don't get me wrong though, FFXIV servers are great, but look how long it takes to transfer items over to your retainer, or pull up menus, sell items.. etc.
If those are bad, Jumping would be much worse, even if there was really a purpose for it, it would be frustrating.
Another damn forum about this?
Like that other guy said, people can spam the emotes and I do that all the time at camp. No one has b*tched at me about that but jumping is so bad and gamebreaking... seriously give it a rest you old-gen nannys
Risks
1: Landing wrong and twisting your ankle
2: Falling too far and breaking your leg
3: Falling way too far and dying
4: Landing on a Lalafell
Bonuses:
1: Seeing people fall too far and hurt themselves
2: Seeing people land on Lalafells
Jumping doesn't make a game "next gen". Mortal Kombat (1992) had jump. Do you consider this a next gen game? No? Ok, Demon's Souls (2009) doesn't have jump. Is it a next gen game? Yes. WHAT?! IT DOESN'T HAVE JUMP AND IT'S NEXT GEN?! ZOOOOOOOOOOMG /WRIST END OF ZEH WORLD AAAAAAAAAH But seriously, jumping has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not a game is next gen. FFXIV is not a game where jumping would "fit." There are no bosses that do aoe ground only attacks and there are no bosses that do aoe air only attacks. In FFXIV, an attack is an attack. There is no Y positioning at all so why would we need a jump feature? Aside from crossing terrain while looking like an idiot (not necessary) I see no need for jump in FFXIV. It just doesn't mesh with the rest of the game.
Risk assessment, lol.
The OP is classic.
Lol, there are 3 jump discussion threads on the front page.
Anyway, /no jumping please
People that say jumping is degrading and a step back from Final fantasy feel has either never played FF's or just failed to remember the many times jumping has occured in a final fantasy. FFVII had jumping, sure it was specific location auto jumps like FFXIII but FFVII had jumping too. Then there is Final Fantasy Dissidia.... I personally think it made the fighting for final fantasy a more final fantasy feel than XIV does lol... because to say that Final fantasy character's can't jump is just dumb.... It really is...
There definitely should be jumping in realistic terms. lalafels jumping 2ft, with Roegadyns jumping 10ft. With this there MUST be bosses that only Roegadyns can reach, with a fiery pit of doom for all lalafells trying to jump to reach the same place. So, to make jumping work in this regard, all other races must have a 'throw lalafell' action.
If we can't have 'throw lalafell' actions in order to compensate for their jumping handicap then I don't want to see jumping at all.
But really, I'd much rather have jumping limited to weapon skill animations only, like the Archer's Arrow Helix, Pugilist's Seismic Shock, or the Bard's throwing blade attack in the R46 storyline quest.
Oh no, JUMP, so risky!
We must caution against the coming tide of jumpers.
I think the largest issue is that players for some reason expect this feature to be implemented in some overdone way. They need to remember which company this game is being developed by.
To simply put it, as others before me have mentioned, it is a basic feature. Does there really need to be a purpose for it? That's not to say they can't add features later that will benefit from it.
Take walking for instance. As far as I know, that is a command that is rarely used. Most characters are constantly set to running mode. Regardless, it's still expected to be included as an option for players.
I vote no on jumping. There really is no need for it at the moment.
+1 to jumping.
It could actually allow for some interesting platform based boss fights.
While I don't really care either way if they add jumping anymore, I agree with this point. A lot of people including people posting in this thread are bitching that SE can't do anything to add compelling content, and that they're slow, etc. etc. etc.
What makes any of you guys think that they'll be able to add jumping, and then add compelling content that uses jumping to a fun degree, if this is what you've been bitching about since day one of the forums being open?
Incidentally, there's apparently also a few FPS developers who have been wanting to get rid of the jump button in their games as well.
Also,
And if anything, it just made those games even more awkward to look at. Hell, Dissidia is a huge turn off for me and a few of my friends simply because of all the time you spend flying around the air like a fairy.
That being said, I think that the biggest reason anybody might be afraid of jumping is the assumed "hordes of WoW, Aion, _insert MMO with shit community here_ tards" are going to suddenly jump ship and come to FFXIV's "secretive gated community" and ruin everything. "WoW has free jumping, and WoW has a shit playerbase, therefore WoW has a shit playerbase because it has free jumping" seems to be the logic being tossed around here, and nothing could be more false.
That, and jumping in WoW(well most things in WoW) look stupid and cartoony, so that's probably another reason. This doesn't necessarily have to be the case for FFXIV though, being that the devs here actually seem to care about what the game looks like.
Everyone that doesn't want jumping is apparently fine with a bland and featureless world. Why is anyone even trying to compare CURRENT mechanics 1:1 with jumping implemented? The game is changing, if they want it to be part of gameplay then it will be part of gameplay. It is so incredibly pointless to say theres nothing to use jumping for in a game that doesn't have it yet.
The entirety of the OP was beating around the bush and then turning into another "WoW has it, I don't want it" and then proceeds to degrade the playerbase. FF Mystic Quest had free jumping.
Jumping will not make the game better.
Here are some features that will make the game better:
-Campaign type battles
-Besieged type battles
-Ship/Airship Battles
-Puzzle Solving
-Abyssea type system where you get rewards no matter how "casual" or "hardcore" you are.
That's what you call features to make the game better. Jumping? Seriously? That adds nothing to a game. You do NOT join an MMO because you jump, I have never in my 2x years of online gaming heard someone say:
"I WANT TO PLAY THIS MMO BECAUSE I CAN JUMP! ^__^"
For example:
http://iris.gpotato.com/
Me my brother and his gf didn't join this game because you can jump, we joined it because it had an interesting design. Btw, jumping in that game serves very little purpose, yet it's a fun as hell game.
Go figure the fun comes from everything but jumping, eh?
just go back to FFXI, sitting on a rocking chair forever
you people are not fit in this new generation, jumping might hurt your waist and hip
You should care. XI is making them a lot of money, XIV is not. Telling people to go to their other successful MMO and make them even more money, any wise business would see that as a sign to put all attention onto what is making them money so they can make even more money.
Hello Everyone!
We know Jumping is a very popular topic at the moment. While there are very strong opinions on both sides, please keep the thread on topic and refrain from personal attacks. A number of posts needed to be removed for these reasons.
