did you ever try using it?
i only use keyboard for fc/pt chat
I play with pad. There are plenty of spaces, i admit targeting does take a little practice BUT you can filter out NPCs, Other players etc so you just go through a list of enemies. That simple fact means you can easily be on the correct target just as fast as anyone with mouse. Also there is less chance of messing up due to moving targets. I played MMO's for years with mouse and kb and i would have agreed with you on most other games but FFXI and FFXIV ARR both play just as good on either M&K and Pad.
It is just down to the user.
PS3 power :P lol, im ps3 and i enjoy it
As a console gamer for the last 35 years yes i played the intellivision (astrosmash), pong, and atari(pitfall) I Play on PS3 also. Ps3 works ok, But it is not that great for online play for this game. No sugar coating. Flaws are takes to long for mobs to pop up on fates, skipping CS still takes 3 second longer then the cpu players. The PSN network causes additional lag that effects the game more then the pc players. Do to the design flaw in the game with .3 second delay out of red circles. Ps3 players seem to be afraid of using any 3rd party voice chat systems. I use them all from xbl,TS,Vent,Mumble, skype, raid call and the KB. You hardly talk to just a ps3 player and if you find one it like pulling teeth to get them to use one them systems that does help out everyone.
Game is ok on the ps3 to play, but just that people on the cpu do Got advantage. You can SSDD ,but why spend more money on one when ps4 around the corner. With direct 11 and a new client for cpu and ps4 players.
It's not always a choice: I play on PS3 partly because I can't transport my PC and I can't fit a desk in my flat.
And, as an early 1.0 player, I can't tell you how terrified I was of buying another broken FFXIV game that wouldn't even work properly on my PC. I was at least guaranteed that the game would be optimised for the PS3, and I wouldn't have to wait two minutes for NPCs to load.
So, a bard's stupidity in not being prepared means PS3 players are idiots? Your logic astounds me. I'm an effing TANK and I still put my LB on a hotbar before I did my first dungeon because I didn't know what to expect (and have been sorely disappointed by its lack of use ever since).
Also, no, thank you, I'm quite happy to not spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars for the purposes of playing a single game that I already play on a system that has yet to give me troubles (doing Coil, btw).
TL;DR - http://i.imgur.com/nqycvec.gif at you.
Its not all about graphics, it never has been.I totally agree, gameplay trumps all.
D2 is awesome, d3 is the biggest letdown of the year ( heck last 5 years ). Thats not nostalgia, i was 24 when d2 came out, i remember it well. Poe > d3.
My recent games i have replayed are fallout 2, planescape torment, systemshock 2, dungeon siege 2 and wizardry 7. I couldnt care less about the graphics.
Now, with that being said, since i play alot of games for many hours, why wouldnt i want the best computer money can buy ( so to speak )?
Would you rather play skyrim on a toaster with everything turned down, running like crap, all choppy and laggy or would you rather play it on ultra where the game runs like a dream and it it nice to look at to boot??
Actually a lot of cpu users use xbox controller on mmo's now days with the wireless KB on the side and mouse and wireless mic with it hook on there TV. Mouse, KB is best but with right custom UI not much of a different. Just the PC got faster game play since it been almost 10 years since there been a console that can run the the newer mmos.
In our house, I play on the PS3 and my husband on the PC (he is a more serious gamer than me). I am the FF fan, he is the MMO fan. This game, and it's cross-platform ability, is a dream come true for us; we get to play together (when normally we are in different rooms, not seeing each other for hours on end) :)
However, that said...his gameplay is soooo much smoother than mine. But, conversly, my load times are quicker. Weird, eh?
I agree PC is better, but we can't afford another game-spec PC, and besides I love my PS. But giving us PS3ers a rough time...not cool. And I have had comments from PC gamers in some critical momments in primal battles...I now play such battles with friends (who know I am PS3) and an expectation is set.....they don't tell me to jog on.....
OT : thanks for funny thread.. *thumbs up* just one thing is missing lack of xbox/360/one version of this game
on the theme : its just matter of preference . I tried play FF with gamepad and i was TERRIBLE and i mean really terrible !!!!! So i will stuck with mouse and keyboard as long as possible. Someone else said it clearly only one thing what PS3 users lack is "comfortable" voice chat nothing else nothing more. All other aspects are matter of skill
Same here, agree with you OP!
I noticed a lot of posts in this thread were deleted. None of them were offensive. Awkward.
This seems like a good thread to ask the following question. Can you mark targets using a PS3?
Of course.
target -> square -> mark -> select icon
For ease it is often simpler to have a mark bar however, with macros that set the currently target, so you don't have to click through the menu.
But if you actually are doing things ahead of time, the extra time isn't that big of a deal.
Yeah I come across PS3 tanks who mark just fine all the time.
But that said, the PS3 interface doesn't always do a good job at explaining where things are. If you know how to examine/follow/friend/tell another player, you should have seen Mark in the same menu, but I have come across a few players who had never pulled that menu up.
Okay thank you, I was running AK with a tank the other day and he said "please focus DPS"
No big deal but I say "Please mark the targets."
He responded "I can't I am on PS3"
He rage quit a few minutes later after he felt first boss took too long due to low DPS. I kind of thought the guy was full of it, but I thought I would ask.
Yes.. :)
Various solutions :
1/while target selected press square [], select "mark", choose which mark
2/put mark/s you want in slot/s on crossbar
3/create macros, either for targeting or linked to an ability
eg of a sleeping macro
/ac Repose <t>
/mk Ignore1 <t>
/p target <t> is asleep
I play on PS3 and very happy about it.
Sure there is some delay when areas are crowded to display players or some mobs.
But there is sometimes an advantage, you can access the summoning bell like there is nobody in front of it :)
I have two gaming PCs and I cannot see playing on a console, but I certainly do not get down on people that do. I played XI on PS2 for a few years. I have an ASUS G73 laptop and a desktop that I built. They handle the game great. SSD in desktop Samsung 8 series pro 256 is just unbelievable.
Basically I was just wondering if this tank was full of crap, because I could not see SE gimping PS3 users in that way. Anyway, I say play on what is most comfortable for you, both financially and experience wise.
I play cross-platform. I leveled up mostly on my PS3, but now I mostly use that for gathering.
As I see it, pros/cons of each:
PC
+ More shortcuts available on the hotbar.
+ Quicker target selection with mouse if needed.
+ Quicker drop-targeting AOE reticles with mouse.
+ More options for play-style (kb/mouse;controller;monitor;tv;etc.).
+ Potentially higher graphics settings.
+ Ease of VoIP use.
- Expensive real-life investment.
- Potential for occasional hardware/software issues.
PS3:
+ Cheaper real-life investment.
+ Game optimized for the system.
+ More potential for comfortable play-style (some people can't/won't setup their PC's in a living room).
- VoIP require 2nd device.
- Lower graphics settings.
- Locked into crossbar usage.
- Keyboard use potentially more awkward.
- Requires tab-targeting.
- Slow/awkward drop targeting.
Some of those items are personal. You might be a pro at drop targeting your aoe reticle; I could never get used to it in 50 levels. You might have an awesome PC room with super comfortable chairs that blow away your living room. Who knows. I think there is greater potential with the PC, and that's absolutely part of the design philosophy of this game. PS3 always will be the lowest common denominator when it comes to designing mechanics and game architecture. I think PC users should be thrilled the team is supposedly building a Direct X 11 version of the game, as it will give people who love making high-end PC's something to go crazy with. You should never need a high-end system, though, to tackle any game's mechanics. That would just be poor design from the start, as there would be much too small of a market for the product.
Overall, I think SE has done a smart thing by catering to multiple audiences. I believe we will run into far fewer "PS3 limitations" problems over the next few years than we ever did with XI. Even many of those issues were worked out by the development teams in time.
To be perfectly frank, the people that are screaming about the PS3 holding the game back strike me as the kind of players that will move on to a new games quite quickly because newer games will likely be "better" in the ways they seem to care about. Fighting to keep such people in the game may be an exercise in futility.
That's as simple as pressing left or right on the d-pad or tapping L2 and L1. As has been said, controllers are not harder to use. I played every phase of the Beta and hated mouse targeting, half the time I would be clicking the tank or the DD than the intended mob. When they restored controllers I was on that like white on rice and haven't looked back since. Yes, I used a controller in 1.0. An old Logitech Dual Action. Used it for the Beta, too, with no issues. Once the game hit the PS3 I moved to that without hesitation and have yet to have a problem that isn't a problem shared by the PC (occasional rare freezing when logging out).
Mouse clicking is extremely glitchy, you have to hold your mouse perfectly still when clicking or it turns into a sliding click and ignores you trying to target. I've been playing mouse+kb before switching back to gamepad and to be honest targeting isn't perfect with either.
This a million times over
"i'm on ps3 i can't get on ts,mumble etc" Let me get this straight so just because youre on PS· you are unable to get any modern mobile device available in pretty much every household that has the luxury of paying for a subscription fee game on a video game console? I find it hard to believe you don't have the money for a smartphone. laptop etc but do indeed have the money for a subscription based MMO 60 dollars to shell on a videogame and the console?
They don't do it because they are lazy annoying people, who can't be bothered.
Then somehow i'm the elitist for not wanting them in my coil party because they are the one's who aren't willing to meet the basic requirements.
Well, if being on a PC is a 'basic requirement' then why is it we see the devs playing on PS3s every time there's a Live Letter? Clearly they must know they are 'doing it wrong', it's their game. Or... There's going to be bad players on both consoles but we on the PS3 don't condemn the whole of the PC community over their bad players, why must you condemn the whole of us over the same? I think that's called a 'double standard'? As is evident, there are alot of good PS3 players to offset the bad, just as there is on the PC. Instead of being short-sighted why not expand your view and accept what you see instead of what you 'see'. That or turn your monitor brightness down and take off the sunglasses.
Whose basic requirements? Yours? The reason SE refused to build in a voice chat solution was because it 1) wasn't necessary for the encounters 2) they did not want to make voice chat necessary. Voice chat is not required for the game. Nice to have, yes. Required? No.
I have a feeling it's more of a "I am bad with a controller, so everyone else must be as well"
I can't to do voice chat, be it on PC or PS3. If it is needed, count me out. Same reason I don't allow talking in a car if I am driving. I can talk, listen, or actually focus on what I am doing. Don't ask me to do all three at the same time or my ability to do all of them will be compromised.
Furthermore not everyone is "lazy" or can't be bothered. And even then. On your cell phone comment, that is clearly a bit naive. I know people who play video games on a PS3 and don't have a smart phone or computer. And no just because you can afford a one time game fee and a monthly cheaper game fee, doesn't somehow mean you also have the money to buy a smart phone/laptop etc. Most people you will find who are playing this game on a PS3 have had it for awhile. They didn't buy the console for the game. Who does?
Text chat is perfectly fine for me, and I know of others who have done up through coil 4 on text only. So while you may not in your group accept it, that doesn't make it a basic requirement for the game either.
Yes, I often find myself with amazingly good PS3 players. Some of the best players I have come across are on PS3. Some of the worst I have come across are also on PS3. Sadly I think the problem is people already have a bias going in, and see the bad ones, and automatically assume it proves their bias.
I am not sure either. Glitch moment. Reply fail? Chalk it up to trying to comment on something while I was busy at work. ;)
Fixed it/made my comments more obvious. :p
Voice chat is nice but by no means required. Required: Competent players that now how to play their jobs and the strat of the dungeon.
Also at cool story guy face-palming a bard not bar'ing his LB: Clearly that guy not having it on his bar is why you wiped.
sorry guys, but i rather spend my money on records and weekend long drug binges in german underground techno clubs than staring at a mi'qote ass in HD resolution.. :\
Yeah, uhh... no. So much not this, to be honest. It's true smart phones are becoming common nowadays, but it is ignorant to expect everyone to have one. It is very foolish to assume one's financial capabilities just because they play a subscription MMO, imo. I have a smart phone myself and I am using it as I make this post in fact, but the only Voip I can get on my current version is Skype. (Maybe google hangouts too, if that counts?) I'm not going to upgrade my phone nor get an iphone/droid, just for this game when it currently suits my needs fine now.
My PC isn't even anywhere near my PS3. I'm not going to rearrange things in my house in order for that to work, when it's not needed. If that makes me 'lazy' and 'annoying', then so be it. In coil now, no problems so far.
Well at least this thread proved one thing, and its that ps3 players are no better than the people they complain about.
Whats not to like about playing games on my PC. I lay in bed with a wireless keyboard/mouse and a controller just like someone on a PS3. I have a 50" HDTV I play on just like someone on a PS3. PC's have this awesome thing on new graphics cards called an HDMI Port. They also have this weird audio thingy called the Line Out Jack. Oh and let's not forget the Blue Tooth controller thingy that keyboard can talk to and or the 20 usb ports it has to PS3's 2 where I can use a controller adapter to use my PS3 Controller on my PC.
Just because you play on a PC doesn't mean your sitting in a chair at some desk hunched over with a screen 2 inches from your face.
Half the problem with people playing games like this is about 25% of the gaming community is technological smart (builds their own pc's, can write computer programs and app's for phones etc etc), and the other 75% does work in life where they don't know much about technology but are 100% dependent on it. So you have a group of people that has their stuff tweaked to perfection trying to play peacefully with a group of people who just plugs everything in to the color coded jacks and hopes it all works.
When I encounter people lagging badly, and moving funny, I try to help them configure their stuff better, but am generally met with "This is how I like to play, the server's lagging not me (partially true but not 100% true), don't tell me how to play the game etc etc so I just give up and run with people who don't lag and tell me they play with WAS and the mouse to move the camera"
PS3 and PS4 basically are PC's. They are computers in closed boxes with controlled hardware and a customized OS. That's all they are. Except said closed box is old enough that current PC's Blow them Away.
You presume that your mouse placement will be good in this example you give. What if your mouse pointer can't even select the right mob as the other mobs are blocking it. You see i too can come up with various situations where things will not be 100% perfect. It doesn't mean that Pad works and if you actually read this thread you would see that there are people are stating that it works perfectly fine.
