Just did as you suggested. Ifrits auto attack goes from 60-70 to 40 his and burning strike down to 80-90 from 130 ish. I only tested it briefly, I am not a number cruncher.
Meanwhile Garuda goes from 180-194 down to like 120-130ish.
I would have to conclude that Ifrit DOES scale from int in the same amount as Garuda, the difference being that the scaling is split between his auto attack and burning strike, where as Garduda scaled directly into Windblade.
Again this is just a proof of concept not a conclusive study of dps.
If Ifrit is really as you say gimped and only spamming burning strike every 4 seconds, this could lower his potential, however it may be intended since his auto attack almost always goes off a second before that and he could suffer from animation lock preventing him from executing it at the 3 second mark.
EDIT: After actually watching Ifrit attack I am convinced that the reason he delays burning strike is because of his auto attack, animation lock must be it. But think about it, he is delaying burning strike by one second or so to auto attack which when added together are either the same or more than windblade , is that really a net loss of dps?
I agree, this is the main factor above all that did it for me too. I'd also like to say the spell speed really isn't that helpful since we don't gain much from 20% of a 2.5 second cast (a few tenths of a second maybe?) and half the time that occurs you've already finished casting your dot rotation.
yes
you're right, I tested it earlier and saw "70+ damage" so I thought that's probably his autoattack changing damage slightly or not at all, I guess that was his burning strike.
cause I tested it now again for the second time, it did lower his damage significantly, err.. I ought to watch these things a little closer.
EDIT: I know now what went wrong, ifrit snapshots your stats when you summon him. so when i tested it earlier, I saw no damage difference when I removed my gear because it was still carrying the snapshotted stats when I had the gear on.
Indeed snapshot at summon. Perhaps you may be able to help test this better. From what I can tell they don't so much as snap shot your stats, as they snap shot your gear.
What I mean is: I had a thought to pop a HQ mega pot of int before summon to see if they would benefit from that, but it seems that even though it adds the int to your stats, that temp int doesn't transfer to the pet.
Now I am not saying it should but if I am seeing it wrong, it could be an interesting way for a small dps increase.
EDIT:
@xxalucard
just an immediate yes? Kinda short response.
Has anyone timed how long wind blade takes to travel to the mob? Given that she should always be at range and is normally at max range, travel time of the attack should be factored in when comparing it to Ifrit's auto attack +burning strike.
I have been called using Ifrit in some cases, rarely mind you, just because I did not put her on Obey (I am lazy :p) and she uses her random knock back which piss the tank off for chasing the mobs every time ;)
I don't know about you, but I've been using both... Ifrit for trash mobs, since I can normally put him on Sic and he does more dps than garuda that way, unless we need to sleep adds, in which case I put him on obey, until last target, and then change it to sic...
During trash mob fights, it's normally not worth using contagion, as mobs die too fast and then i find really little use for garuda, I really think Ifrit is so much better to deal with trash mobs, so much faster...
I do find use in ruin 2, it is a good finisher, when a mob is near dead, I usually combo ruin I > ruin II, for a fast 160 potency to bring down the mob and move to the other one. During trash mobs you really can't run out of mana, seriouslly...
Now, when It comes to boss fights, Garuda is infinitly better, using Contagion to extend your raging strikes dot's, plus thunder/miasma 2 just pops your damage output skyhigh... And it makes so much easier to manage the dots over the boss. It makes Fester management a lot easier.
Overall Garuda is better, but during trash mob fights, there is just no time to enjoy the gains from her Contagion, mobs come down just too fast.
No, because, you know, Foe Req.
Even if you don't have it, for whatever laughable reason, the debuff will be a ~13% DPS increase. Putting Ifrit right around 64 DPS.
Is 5 DPS worth Contagion? I doubt it.
Is 5 DPS worth having a melee pet? I doubt it.
Also, I can confirm Storm's Eye(Slashing Resistance) does not buff Ifrit, and that DK(blunt resistance) does.
How did I know it would be Mr. Happy? I hate that guy. People put him on a pedestal and think he's the best, and knows everything.
He's a mediocre player that spreads mis-information to his fans.
Oh, and before you say anything, especially for people providing data, provide data yourself when you have a counter-claim.
You're abrasive for no reason.
Oh, and PS.
DK is a 3 DPS gain for Ifrit.
So he will do 1 more DPS than Garuda.
At a loss of Contagion, and being in melee.
Which also doesn't factor in Garuda doing more with Foe Requieum.

He was actually hovering around 59 DPS most of the time, I wanted to be nice and SS it at 60.
As compared to:
Ifrit no DK

Garuda no Foe Req

Because, you know, it kind of does. If one pet does more on a DUMMY, not even mentioning ranged or melee, with equal damage buffs/debuffs they will always do more. ALWAYS. PERIOD.
That's why dummy testing is always important.
Spell Speed is a very marginal stat for SMN. Our DoTs don't tick any faster with SS. For me, I have to expend 13 GCDs while under that pet passive to "gain" an extra GCD. Is an extra 80 potency every 13 GCDs, only while the ability is procced(which for me is 3%[6% with Ifrit] uptime), worth an inferior DPS pet(+melee) and loss of Contagion? I highly, highly doubt it.
Have your 8-man be, you know, coordinated and run Gaols to Titan so you can Bane on them?
My whole point is I have tested things, and I am testing things. There's no reason to be an abrasive asshole when a new element is introduced that people didn't know, or think about, before. Also, make an informed decision. Think before you post.
Please do some actual research, or data gathering, before you post like an abrasive asshole. Even some napkin math would've told you that Ifrit still isn't worth it. You don't get to make a claim, especially against data already present, that it's wrong--Without providing data of your own.
A few points I disagree, does Ifrit being melee really make that much of a difference? Once again I find Ifrit a bit more manageable than Gurada because you know where hes at 100% of the time. No my Titan group doesn't run the rock jail next to the boss 100% of the time because its simply not needed with geared DPS. I see all of this is actually new data you just recently did and the only reason I didn't provide my own data and test is because I refuse download the parser app since I'm not convinced it's 100% accurate on actually fighting encounters. It is on test dummies.
So you only tested DK? Not the Warriors debuff or the Dragon debuff as well? Once again to ME contagion is overrated, and from the start I say Gurada would do more dmg with Foes. I still stay by my statement which you have actually proved Ifrit does more raw damage than Guarda with a melee heavy group. While Gurada does more with Foes up.
look at this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMXxGBCCNJc that's on turn 1 ADS, they pulled at 2:30, the summoner's ifrit died at 2:36. and snake boss tailswipe + melee cleave.
turn 2. ADS anti melee attacks again.
turn 4. with all the mobs spawning at different spawnpoints, ifrit would be spending more time moving around than attacking + melee cleaves again, while garuda just stands in a safe spot and just range attacks everything you order it to attack.
even with the melee debuffs ifrit would lose because he uses burning strike every 4 seconds (delay), while garuda uses her wind blade every 3 seconds.
Ifrit is 100% useless.
Yes, it does make a difference. Pets take full damage from cleaves, are subject to melee AoEs which over time will kill them unless you heal your pet(wasting GCDs), can add AoE into melee, and it's melee which means they have less up-time on the boss.
Oh, you want to change targets on Turn 1? Ifrit has to walk all the way over. "But Zelia, I can just leave Ifrit on the old target!" -- Yeah, you could, or you could just use Garuda who has no problem target switching and has Contagion.
Turn 2 ifrit dies, as shown above.
Turn 4 Ifrit has to walk all over.
How about non-BoC?
Ifrit - At a detriment during/after jumps. He moves, unless you "Place" him, and then if the tank moves ifrit at all he won't be in range. AoE knockback circle has no effect on Garuda.
Garuda - I shouldn't even need to say it, but she ports around, the sisters appear, etc. Garuda doesn't have to move, loses no uptime.
Titan - Ifrit loses DPS during jumps, need to move out of cleave after jump. Can't jump to Gaol as fast. No contagion+RS for heart. Landslide doesn't effect Garuda as much.
The only new data is the parsing with DK and finding that Storm's Eye does nothing. Read posts before responding.
Ifrit does a negligible amount more DPS(re: basically even), only while DK is up(which won't have a 100% uptime, either) and offers nothing, while being able to be a detriment to the group and other melee.
How nice, you changed your tone when you got called out. I'd rather you continue posting like you did prior.
They're nearly equal. Pick the one you think is most pretty. :3
I can see Ifrit being annoying in Turn 1 and unusable in 2 but I used Ifrit in Turn 4 and didn't have a problem keeping him alive at all. The reason I switched to Ifrit was Garuda pulled an add on one run so it delayed DPS a bit on the Demolisher so I switched pet BUT this was before the recent patch. Not even sure how Garuda pulled the add, it seems like sometimes adds in Turn 4 just pick someone to attack before enmity is even generated.
How did I change my tone, I'm still laughing at people that think one pet is the clear choice no matter the situation. Still think testing a pet DPS on a targeting dummy is pointless. Ifrit having to move to attack doesn't "kill" his DPS that much. Landslide also effects Garuda because it knocks her out of range then she has to move in a bit closer to continue casting.
I will repeat I just don't think there is a clear winner of which is the better pet til more test are done. Is that changing my tone?
Did I ever say Ifrit is the clear choice no matter the situation?
At least we can agree that Mr. Happy gives out bad information a lot of the time.
At the end of the day I think it just depends on the situation to decide what pet to use which is what I've been saying the entire time if that makes me an asshole for not bowing my head and believing Garuda is the better choice no matter the situation because she does more damage on a target dummy then so be it.
keeping him alive is just one of the pet concerns on turn 4, garuda doing more dps than him because of range (meaning more time standing and dps than ifrit running around just to move to the target) that and contagion, there is no point in using ifrit.Quote:

there is no argument on all coil fights, garuda wins hands down. the only way ifrit MIGHT be able to beat garuda is only on special circumstances when at least 2 melee debuffs (im assuming only 1 can apply) apply and ifrit's burning strike recast is 3 instead of 4. but even then, ifrit is gonna get buttmangled by garuda's contagion + battlevoice foe requiem.
there is no point using ifrit as of now, especially with his 4 second burning strike recast, and even if they fix that, you still need at least 2 melee debuffs to apply for it to be on par with garuda (but can still be beaten by just having 1 bard in a group for voice+foe)
well, with all situations right now in the game, garuda IS the clear winner, I cannot think of any situation that ifrit is more beneficial than garuda even when there is a melee debuffer and no bards to foe.Quote:

Am I crazy or do brds just constantly keep foe up for everyone else?
And Ifrit is the clear winner for trash packs like doing WP or AK with a geared group for AOE, normally most of the mobs die fast enough that the extra 15sec contagion spread won't be worth using. I bet people also think Tri-diaster is worthless :(
Doing some Titan test now with a friend running the meter. So far have Ifrit logged with Foe/Drg debuff up. Will update when I get Garuda.
Alright here are the numbers on Titan, I used 1 Enkindle during each attempt, and didn't use any of the pet buffs. Both pets were on Sic so wasn't getting the full benefit of contagion but not a big deal. These were paid runs so not the greatest group set up. The fight with Ifrit was a bit longer
Ifrit - 22, 310 with Foe and DRG debuff
Garuda - 20, 634 with Foe
Waiting on SS to get the actually DPS but yeah their dmg is almost identical but not sure if the DRG debuff actually effects Ifrit dmg it doesn't seem like so with a MNK in your group Ifrit may be the better choice. If not its a Contagion vs more procs of Enhanced Pet Abilities.

Why would you have Garuda on sic, making her do a lot less damage?
PS
Garuda is doing more DPS in your parse, which means Titan died faster and thus the higher damage from Ifrit was due to you killing it slower.
Wanted to used Sic on both pets to keep the data the same, and yeah Titan took longer with Ifrit since we had 3 healers that run. Would be nice if the Parser actually showed how long a fight took. Doing another attempt now with Garuda just on Obey to see if the DPS difference is that big. With update with results.
I think they fixed the Shadow Flare part with the latest update unless it doesn't work on bosses because it tracks on targeting dummies.
you could have saved time and money by just getting your friends to debuff the target dummy, and make both pets dps at exactly one minute. (since you mentioned that you were paying for the run?)
about shadowflare, I've tested it freshly yesterday, ffxivapp and logrep doesn't track shadowflare.
The data isn't the same because Ifrit does more DPS on sic, rather than obey, and Garuda does more on Obey rather than sic. That wasn't supposed to be a test of sic vs obey. It was a test for DPS, and kind of damage. The fact that Garuda did more on an inferior settings speaks volumes.
Not to mention you probably didn't do any target switching, as you stated earlier.
This is why dummy DPS is important. If one does more DPS on dummies, and is ranged, it will always functionally do even more DPS.
There is no situation where a melee pet, while is already being out DPS'd on a dummy, will out DPS a ranged pet.
None, at all*.
*Barring specific fight mechanics where melee get some sort of damage boost, AND you kite the boss.
I'm the one making money doing Titan runs so just knocking out 2 things at once. Hmmm I tested it 3 days ago and it was taking Shadowflare on a target dummy so who knows. I guess my actually DPS is 100% accurate then.
So Keeve was correct Garuda did more DPS being on Obey over Sic her DPS number was at 55 DPS for the latest attempts. BUT the fight seemed quicker than the last 2 attempts.
New picture of the Garuda so it looks like Garuda is the clear winner if you don't have a MNK in your group. So I still have to test Ifrit with a MNK and of course there is Contagion that makes Garuda a bit better as well. My DPS was a lot higher this run but that was because of a few reasons not just Contagion. People that got rocked were actually close to the boss so Bane was a lot more useful.

Another Ifrit meter with Sic and only using Enkindle once
http://i.imgur.com/3oPTsz0.png
noticed that you mentioned this, I understand that contagion isn't as strong as it seems (it is though when extending empowered dots) and you did mention contagion is overrated, but you're totally underrating it to the point that you compare it to something as negligible as more chances of increasing a negligible stat. (ifrit's 2x attacks)Quote:
If not its a Contagion vs more procs of Enhanced Pet Abilities.
That is very true but I think Contagion is only the clear choice if you can get more than 1 Raging Strikes off which is pretty standard for all HM and Coil bosses. Maybe not on ADS(Turn 2) depending if you use it on trash since that is a pretty short fight. I really think its just down to preference tbh
The only other thing that is worth noting is that Ifrit applies a dot when using enkindle. On dummy tests I did a while back totaled 56 damage per tick and 600 something for the enkindle itself. I forget its duration, but that put his enkindle damage higher than Garudas enkindle.
I don't run the parser so I have no numbers to give just what I see.
For the people running parser, I assume you are using spur and rouse throughout the fight? Also has anyone found out with Egi has the best dps enkindle?
For my test I did it without Spur/Rouse because I wanted to make it as accurate as possible and if I missed one of those buffs by a few seconds that could kill the results. I just did a Titan run with a MNK so should have those SS up if my friend remembered to take it.
Why would SE give you the most powerful pet first then have you unlock weaker pets? Of course Garuda is better than Ifrit...
That may be the dumbest fucking logic I've heard for this argument, so dumb I have to believe you're trolling. In other games you would be correct normally the later you get a spell or ability the stronger it is BUT in FFXIV you still use spells you get at lower lv. Example BLM Fire spell is still there most used spell at 50 even thought they have Fire II and Fire II. Why ever use Bio II when you have Bio I... Plz be trolling.
i use all summons, you have 3 to manage, not 3 to choose 1 and stick to it, they are all situational
I seen this before and I havent confirm it yet but maybe some of you guys might know.
Summoner stats carry over to your summon. Meaning if you think garuda is stronger than ifrit you are right cause garuda stats is int and summoner will go for int cause its their primary stats. (Unverified)
Ifrit need str to increase their damage output (unverified)
Titan need vit to increase HP. (This one i tried i put on vit on my bonus stats and surely titan HP increase.) Verified
One of Mrhappy's guides EXPRESSIVELY suggests it, even at one point says "People will tell you that it's a bad idea, don't listen to them."
I got i a fight with a FC member over it, he was standing by the video, ignoring all attempts at me pointing out numbers, shouting YOU ARE JUST LIKE THE GUY IN THE VIDOE SAID TO LOOK OUT FOR.
He ended up ignoring me, but he's been giving out "advice" to summoners in my FC for days.
