I think MS are building their own MMO that is why they are making all other Dev's jump through so many hoops right now to discourage any competition on the platform.
It wont be on Xbox 360 or in the next gen Xbox, SE is horrible with their subs system look at the system they had for FFXI.... Horrible, look at the one they have for FFXIV... Horrible, that wont fly on Xbox live sorry :)
As for nintendo, it might, yeah nintendo would be a great asset, but again it all depends on what happens with this game, would i like it to be on wii2 ? i'm not sure, so far the only reason i would get a wii is for last story really
It won't happen on an Xbox because Microsoft want their cut of the profit, unless they made you pay for Xbox Live maybe and the game which people would complain about having to pay for both.
If it became a big hit they'd be no point because they'd be earning enough and wouldnt want to pay the high royalities and also Microsoft will want you to have gold and SE dont want to make it so you need to have live gold to play. Its always abotu greedy and if this game became popular it wouldnt be worth it to go over and lose royalities on them, it'd be fine.
SE had an Xbox360 version ready to go but could not come to an agreement with Microsoft over XboxLive. I don't know if they have continued to work on it along with the PS3 version but awhile back SE said they could have Xbox up and running in just a couple of months if they reach an agreement.
As for the problem with XboxLive, it has nothing to do with the servers or the hardware or anything technical...it is all about $$$!
Microsoft ran FFXI on the Free Xbox Silver and never made a dime from it. Now they insist FFXIV run on Xbox Gold so that they at least get that revenue but SE does not want users to have to pay Twice to play.
I however have a Solution: Allow Microsoft to be the Sole Distributor for FFXIV through Xbox Live so they at least make money from retail sales but still have it playable on Xbox Silver (free) but SE still gets the monthly fees.
Well it's already on 360, what I meant is when they transfer platforms from ps2 to ps3 it would take off limitations ps2 have for FFXI, which is btw already an issue.
In my opinion it would simply remove limitations from both games, when SE could switch platforms for their mmo's, giving them longer life and more possibilities in the future.
PS3 limitations are already an issue for FFXIV :p
maybe you don't get it they said they never port FFXI over too PS3 becuase it would take more time to recode the game then make a new one and that why they made ffxiv for pc and ps3
read the ffxi fourms everyone on ps2 are to hard headed to switch to ps3 or pc which is funny becuase the pc there using to talk on the forums i bet you can run ffxi on high setting if my old pc
64mb
1core 2.9ghz
1gb of ram
can run ffxi on high setting any pc from 2002+ can run ffxi but w/e lol
I'd really like to play this on Wii stream! Honestly XIV with touch screen macros would be awesome. I hate the action bar with a controller it's so horrible in every way possible.
Actually the bulky ps3 can run ffxi due to the backwards compatability. While ps3 slim doesn't have that. XBL is the same since the 360 was introduced and has 2 version Silver the free dumb down version and gold the premium version. SE doesn't want ffxiv to be run with gold due to forcing customers to pay 2 times inorder to play ffxiv. Which is why no 360 launch. The semi mmo PSU does run on the 360 but requires a gold membership. Also The Secrete World is said to be on the 360 also, and will most likely require a gold membership also.
@ Zen. Stop speaking for everyone. I've been wanting to play ffxiv on the ps3 since 09 E3. I only got ffxiv CE after finding out ps3 got delayed due to the ram issues. I'm having a hard time enjoying ffxiv, not because of the game. But the fact I must play in my families kitchen which gets too much traffic. I can barely enjoy myself while getting teased by family members. Also why should only PC users get to enjoy MMO? I like MMO's but I'm not a big PC user.
it's not speculation SE said it in a interview they said it would take way to long to make it for ps3 so we came up with a new game ffxiv as a ps3 port.
@Kilta_Firelotus: yes but that still running on the PS2 version not a true PS3 port. I'm speaking for the most player base who was waiting for PS3 due not having a good PC. I never said it should only be for PC but if it was then we could enjoy the game for a very long time and not have limit like how FFXI got. We never see the mission area in FFXI which could bring FFXI back to life but due to PS2 that wont happen and guess what it going to happen one day for ps3 but i guess by then we have FF17 online lol.
Why do you even play in the kitchen? it's a laptop is it not? that seem some what weird if i have laptop good enough to play ffxiv on low setting i can even sit outside and play ffxiv.
@Seif i agree i would love a port for the new Nintendo system i mean They did have FF first it be nice if they have XIV on it at least FFXIV :)
I don't think so Simple due to what Sony has been doing.
Sony has an Online part called Sony Online Entertainment. They have 2 mmo now on the ps3, DCUO And free realms. DCUO when I played was late on every update and holiday event. They made it so you can lvl up in 3 days but really have limited content. The only soon to be released mmo out for the 360 (maybe) is Secret World (according to wiki the guy said it has no ties to "the longest journey" but stories are identical sorta looks good from what I seen)
@ zen the only reason ffxi slowly died is because of the game itself not the "limitations". Which they kinda fixed by how the game gets updated, which it is still getting updates. And tons of people still play. Just most ppl didn't stick to it because there were other games out which for them was better, or the die hard fan from everquest era didn't like game becoming more user friendly. People mostly want a fun game. I know tobs of ppl who play on MUD or still play eq2. And obliviously there is GW. All those game haven't really had any tech updates. Only limitations I see are space issues since a consule doesn't run like a pc.
Really? ok i name you a few
inventory Limitations
AH 7 sell limitations
Adding new models design Limitations
Mog House Expansion limitations
Go to http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/forum.php
and you see player asking for something and the dev say they can't do it and it because of the ps2 limitations lol
So yes console does mess up the game play for other once the said console reach it limits
ITT:
People who want a game that can't even survive on its CURRENT platform.. coming out for multiple platforms...
Also a ton of people reporting rumors as facts......
/topic
When did anyone ask for this game to be release for the new console right now? lol the new one would be release somewhere Q1-Q2 of 2012 which this game should be fix by then and if it not then i feel sorry for SE and FFXIV.
Nintendo new system is coming out 2012 the only rumor is Xbox but am sure they have a 2013 or 2014 release then come PS4 around the same time. So yes there are fact not rumor for the nintendo and even going to be display at E3 this year.
For everyone "Seem like it got to the point you can't make a topic without people coming up with the most negative post" if you got noting good to say about the topic at hand for the future of ffxiv then don't even post on it.
and please stay in topic.
even if the new nintendo comes out in 012, it would take SE 2 years(If we go by what it would take FFXI to be ported to PS3) now considering is a new system it could take longer, and we all know how good SE is with its coding.... so lets say that by 2014 they do port it to the new console, and the new xbox comes out, another 2 years to port, then the ps3 comes out, another 2 years, not taking into account compatibility and downtime while porting, i think that by 2016-2018 this game will not be around, seriously this game might not even make it past 012 if the upcoming updates fail to bring any new faces around :)
If the new xbox still uses xbox live, you won't see FFXIV on it. The reason 14 couldn't be on the 360 is because M$ is too money grubby to allow it on XBL.
Actually I think this is a good idea... in that it also enforces making better connections to the Japanese servers or making servers state-side (specifically in the East), as well as in Europe. Then again- they could have added more modularity to Echoes of Time, taken out the story-line and turned it into a puzzle/RPG/Action/Adventure MMO, and I would play it until my graphics card melted... Or rather didn't because it wasn't so bogged down with excess graphical crapola :D
Also- 9/10 of the time, Kotaku is full of crap, especially when it comes to details. Sure they can tell us when Nintendo's next Pokemon game is framed to come out- but other than that, their details are usually scarce and more dishonest speculation (speculation is good, but not when spinned as likely being true just to make an article)
damn.... console never die even they're not better than PC
FFXIV will never be on the 360 or on any system that works with Xbox Live. That's simply because Microsoft has completely closed their policies to companies operating games with an external billing (IE: any MMORPG for which the monthly goes to the developer and not to microsoft themselves) and to any cross platform game.
The closed nature of the Xbox Live policies simply prevents any MMO like FFXIV (or any other external network feature, like the Steam features in portal 2 for instance) to appear on that console.
No MMO will truely go to 360 anymore
Champions was also slated for 360 release and canceled it due to 360s closed server policy and wanting a ton of money
there were a few others too which were supposed to have it yet got canceled for the same reason
11 was literaly the only exception ever to this rule
It took SE like 5 billion years to get Crystal tools ready for the 3 existing consoles, so unless the new Nintendo is related to the PS3, PC, or XBOX360, i doubt SE will bother making games for it.
Yo guys I got a great idea. How bout lets wait for the game to get fixed?
im nitpicking?
lol the fact is that xbox doesnt do mmos purely cuz they want a cut of the profits for using their network
they made an exception for 11, and most other games that had plans to do it have canceled cuz they dont wanna pay microsoft for the rights to use xbox live to do it.
every other one who has caved, can only be played on xbox live, with other xbox liver players, no cross server compatibility with pc players
That is all space, which in games is a non issue. No game has super space not even mmo. I've been playing games a long time and they are always limited to the tech it was made from. Plus they can't really have super techy games, no one would beable to play them for not affording a super computer. Why you think wow is so popular? it don't require a high end gaming system. I wish it was out for consule so I can play it. And this lap top isn't mine. So there are "rules" i must follow. Being in the kitchen is a rule.
Considering the specs, Most macs(spec wise) won't be able to play it...heck most pcs can't play it either. The requirements are still too tough for general off the shelf boxes even the macs(higher then normal pc) specs.
But realistically they'll need to port out of DX which is a no go for many game companies including ff14. Boot camp isn't an option for most mac owners, because it's booting into windows.
Back to new consoles...first they're gotta make sure FF14 can live long enough to expand...we're not exactly happy-go-lucky right now no matter what box it's running under.
FFXI was the exception because it used POL. POL was able to be housed inside XBL's intranet and allowed to tunnel into the XI servers. This let Square keep their servers in their own house and allow them full access to them in the case of maintainence and other issues. It also reduced the Hardware Overhead Costs of running the game on two seperate networks MS Intranet and SE Intranet. Because only the POL software was on MS's side and it had very little hardware impact.
Most other developers say "We'd love to have our MMO on the 360." but then they get to the architecture for the hardware and realize its completely ridiculous the rules MS forces on them.
1. The Players who connect Via XBL and the XBL360 can not play on the same servers as players on PSN and the PS3.
2. Players who connect via XBL can not have access to the outside internet.
3. Players who connect via XBL can not have the ability to circumvent XBL for connectivity.
4. The developer is responsible for the hardware costs of maintaining the server, but the server must be housed in a MS Datacenter to give it access to the XBL Intranet.
5. Updates have to be distributed in a specific format. Updates of a certain size must have a cost value associated purchasable through the Microsoft XBLA storefront.
POL Circumvents these rules as I understand it by the following.
1. The XBL POL Client only connects to XBL POL.
2. POL Doesn't give access to the internet, only internal FFXI content.
3. You have to be on XBL to access POL, (Silver)
4. POL Servers are inside the MS Intranet and tunnel to the XI servers.
5. None of the updates to XI are done on the XBL side of the client but the XI side of the client which is considered segregated.
Ultimately if XIV were to end up on the 360 it would be on POL which SE has already stated they no longer will support new games being developed to the platform.
