Oh my, how could I forget! This is a huge point. I thought this over when me and my girlfriend were trying to gather anima crystals before, and basically it's simply not fun. Grinding content that gives you no other useful reward is not fun. Repeating the same few battles over and over is not fun. There's really no point in partying up for it since one person can get three crystals in three fates while another person might get zero, which is not fun.
Basically, FATEs as a quest component are, and always have been, a terrible design choice.
